Would you say Pakistan and India are the favourites for the 2019 World Cup?

I know a lot of people will not agree with this, but from what I have seen that If Pakistan gets there batting in order they are the team to beat with India. Couple of reasons:-

SA- chokers and no AB
Aus- no quality spinner plus smith and warner just coming back
WI - poor
NZ ok , but no big match players.
England- good batting but bowling as good as associates team

You can't call Pakistan this early.

Pakistani team has a delicate balance in the batting department.

One wrong selection, or one key player going out of form (fakhar or shoaib), will make this a much weaker team.

We will see when the tournament starts.

But everyone knows one Pakistan get momentum behind them they are a juggernaut.

Do you think England are favourites. Look at their bowling now. Against Scotland they were pathetic. And if they do not get 300, you think they have the bowing to restrict good teams to under 300

Nervous about any clash with Pakistan after what happened last year.

I'd say Pakistan are the favourites among those two, with England also up there.

Their batting is very good though.

Going by the scorecard, even today they were on track to post a higher total, but India did very well to restrict them.

once Eoin Morgan is back in form, this England team will have the most destructive batting lineup in ODIs. Posting or chasing 350 is not beyond them.

So they are certainly contenders, just maybe not favorites.

hopefully all our players are fit by may . dont want see someone out of wc due to injury specially Sarfraz ,Malik, Amir ,fakhar , hassan, amir, shadab, faheem , babar

That’s in NZ. I just feel in England especially during July , our team will do well.
For me the 4 SF will be india, England, NZ and Pak.

It's India and Australia with Smith and Warner back. England need bowlers and Pakistan need Sharjeel back

Australia have a very poor record of limited overs in england. They had a full strength champions trophy team but still could not make it to the semis. Their middle order is very weak and they cant expect starc, cummins and hazlewood to get teams out in flat tracks.

Even their full strength squad lost 4-1 to ENG in AUS

Pakistan are the dark horses, not the favourites. Having the favourites tag adversely affect our players

As it looks, it will be between India, Pakistan and England.

England lost T-20s only. T-20 is a format which anyone on any single day can win IMO. We should not undermine them that easily.

In 50-overs game, they are still the no.1 in England IMO. The only issue with them is how do they tackle India and Pakistan in semi-finals and finals if they face them.

India is one of the favorites, Pakistan has a chance but not among top three contenders. India, England and a full strength Australia will be ahead of Pakistan by next year.

If Australia don't get Smith and Warner back then Pakistan would definitely be one of the favourites.

As for India, of course, they are always one of the favourites.

Lol.

Pak has too many accumulators and minnow bashers, people who cannot play pace. Like Malik, Sarfraz.

Least favorites.

No. Eng, India and NZ are joint favorites and should make semis. SA, Aus and Pak will compete for final spot.

With an ageing batting line up including Raina and Dhoni at 5 and 6, we are far from being favorites.

These two did nothing of note in 2015 WC away from home (except for performing against Zim and WI) and will repeat the performance in 2019 again. It's ridiculous how we are back to square one with our batting while bowling has been totally overhauled (Shami, Mohit Sharma, Ashwin, Jadeja were our main bowlers in 2015). This despite those bowlers have been done remarkably well all through the tournament.

Kohli's approach as captain in LOIs has been terribly disappointing, seems to continue the Dhoni style of player selection going for safer options instead of taking risks to groom young batsmen and preferring swing seam trundlers instead of young pacers hitting 145+

It is an ODI world cup on flat pitches not a test championship in England/Australia.

I think most of Indian XI is sealed .

Sharma , Dhawan , Kohli , ? ? Dhoni , pandaya , 4 bowlers.

Indias main concern will be number 4 and 5 .

They would like to have someone who can bowl a few overs so to make up as sixth bowling option and share 10 overs pandaya.

As of right now only two favorites are India and England. Pakistan could be the dark horse of the tournament.

I am expecting aus to surprise everyone. They might not win worldcup but can go till finals or maybe semifinals atleast.

As usual, we are blowing our trumpet over beating a few minnows and a weakened Australian side in a totally meaningless series.

The same Pakistan team were thrashed 5-0 in New Zealand, but perhaps it wasn’t a big enough reality check for some people.

Pakistan will still lose to all the top teams in an ODI series anywhere in the world 8/10 times.

India and England are the two best ODI teams in the world by some distance, and they are heavy favorites at this point.

England are really overrated, we completely shut them down in their backyard last year. India is the real deal.

I think we have some big LOI's coming up right now so these are gonna be a good test to see how are team is right now.

Below will be my favs to win it all.

1) Aus (Warner/Smith/Starc/Cummins will be back)
2)India (Middle order weakness. But all other bases covered)
3) England (Super batting and average bowling)
4) Pakistan (Very good bowling. Batting too reliant on Zaman to post a big score. I don't see any other Pak batsman who can scare opposition).
5) NZ (Perennial Dark horse. Williamson/Guptill/Boult/Monroe are all match winners)

Rest of the teams - Thanks for coming.

Perhaps england think-tank will decide to get one of Anderson or broad back in ODI squad and it would make absolute sense. On England's bowlers they are pretty good when the pitch supports them a bit, their problem is they become very ordinary on flat pitches.

Even wuth AUS full strength squad they lost to ENG 4-1 in AUS

Their record is abysmal even with their top players

It is laughable some people are underrating England. They lost T20 series only, not odis. T20 is anyone's game on any day and in any conditions.

Pak and only Pak is favourite. No other team comes in several miles of area.

Yh I feel like Pakistan are by no means favourites although you have to admit we are much stronger than we were before the 2015 world cup. If we play our best cricket we can win. Totally agree that India and England are best sides (although India is miles better than England atm imo)
I would say India, England, Australia and Pakistan are most likely to win wc in that order.

I don't know about favourites but my top 3 teams for sure in no order to make the semi-finals would be India, England and Pakistan. The 4th spot could be anyone besides Bangladesh and Afghanistan.

It was a very poor showing in NZ but conditions will be much better for Pak in England, we've not had a wet summer in a while. Pak have the resources to seriously challenge for the title, there is still time to establish our ideal XI for the big event so wouldn't read too much into the defeat in NZ.

Well , Well, there's a suprise!

Imagine if Bangladesh and Afghanistan are the two finalists. :srt

Well atleast we went from losing 9/10 times to every team to 8/10. Some progress made. :sree

India will be favourites in all world tournaments due to their batting and improved bowling. Pakistan though always have done well in England and they should be considered among top contenders for the tournament. England with their batting and familiarity with conditions will surely have the edge and Australia, if they are able to assemble their best team would be back as one of the contenders as well.

India and Aus are generally among the favourites for the WC.

After that it's between Pakistan and England. SA usually have one of the strongest teams, but I don't think it's the case this time around.

As for NZ, they're missing one great player to be among the favourites. I'm not sold on our middle order or bowling, I think it will be found out next year during the tournament.

SFs will probably be India, Aus, Pakistan and England.

I think , Pakistan need Sharjeel to become an explosive opening batting line up. I am not sure whether Haris Sohail can establish himself in ODI setup. I would take Imad wasim at his place. He can get few wickets against non Asian teams , which is very useful considering we have to play against each team.

My XI:

Sharjeel
Fakhar
Babar
Sarfaraz
Malik
Imad
Shadab
Faheem
Amir
Hasan
Junaid

India: They will definitely play Semis. They are very consistent and good stroke makers, and can be more than handy in small grounds in England. But for them , challenge would be to remain focussed and fit after IPL.

Australia : One can not discount Australia from WC. They might not have Warner/Smith. But suddenly they will raise their tempo

England : Their bowling is a mess now. Their batting too is one dimensional. They can bash same kind of bowling of NZ/Aus/SA to the parks, but when present with different challenge of spin, reverse swing bowling, they generally lose their plot.

SA : There brightest chance in recent years. People might disagree. AB, Steyn never performed in crunch situation, and are the first one to choke. Without them there is a hope that young players might ruffle that tag

WI : The dark horse. I can bet on them. They might look unmotivated. But the players who are unmotivated are generally Gayles and Bravos, who wont be part of 2018 WC. So if somehow they manage to get stable playing XI, they can beat few good teams.

SL : First challenge for them is to get stable XI. But again, I wont discount them.

Bangladesh : Absolutely no chance. Long tournament, winning 1/2 fluke games might not help them. They will finish bottom.

Pakistan : Could be the first time after 1999 world cup, Pakistan might enter the WC as favorites. If bowling is found they might even finish in last 3.

Afganistan : 50 overs game will be too big for Afganistan to do some upsets. They can fancy their chances gainst WI/SL and Pakistan. They can beat bangladesh.

NZ : soft boys of cricket. Too tough for them. With no leader like BMac, they can find it hard.

For me, India followed by ENG/NZ and Pak. Although it's highly unlikely that we are going to win with the weak middle order. If we get our selections right, I have no doubts that we will make the finals.

India yes, Pakistan no..I mean we lose 8/10 times so if we do win it will be the biggest fluke in the history of sport..Actually I think we should just not bother, cant win anyway and it will stop our fans from blowing their trumpets..just pencil england and India into the final and forget the rest!!

Pakistan love an ICC tournament in England, so on that basis alone i would put them in the top 3. We have been playing our best cricket in years, yet we are still labelled as flukey, lucky, rubbish, wait until they play the big teams nonsense. We can only play who is put in front of us and the performances have been good so far. Lets hope they carry this on.
