I have always wanted to make this comparison as I find similarities in both the players. Both Saha and Rizwan are terrific with gloves and handy bats for their respective teams.

So who you think is a better player and asset for its team?

Rizwan by a long way. When Saha toured Aus and Eng did you ever see him bat the way Rizwan did in his first 9 tests?

Both are brilliant in terms of just wicket keeping. Seeing both of them so far i beleive rizwan would go on to ne better in tests and saha in lois. He did well in ipl.

Hence I made this comparison as both are brilliant with gloves...probably best 2 going around in the world. As far as batting is concerned, I think Saha is better in LOIs with more shots in his armoury and Rizwan is better in tests.

saha is 37 isnt he, will india really invest in him long term now?

Rizwan is definitely the better batter. But I think Saha is the better keeper. Rizwan has not had to keep on some the turners that Saha has kept on during his career. Saha is your classic specialist WK from olden times of cricket. Although his batting in the IPL games he got surprised me a little bit.

Saha any day of the week as a limited overs cricketer even if he is 36.

I think Rizwan is a better batter but let him play more.

I can recall one of Saha's test hundred in West Indies which was a good one but of all people, he played second fiddle to Ashwin in that inning. Aside of that, he would be having a few usual 30s and 40s but don't think much to talk about.

Saha is a top notch wicket keeper, he is a throw back to the 80's and 90's when the emphasis was on a solid keeper who bats rather than the other way around. He is never noticed behind the stumps which goes to show how well he performs, but as a batter is a not above average. Yes he has performed in the IPL a few times, has a century in a final too! But just like the man himself, he isnt an attractive stroke maker and you need to be that to play in the Indian LOI setup. So yes Rizwan is a better batsman but Saha the better keeper IMO. Though from glimpses of Riswan, his wk isnt half bad and if he plays for half a decade, he should get to be the best in the current gen.

I haven't seem saha bat but rizwan is world class keeper/batter in tests only thou

Saha is the better keeper. Rizwan is the better batsman and a very decent keeper to boot. Age is on the his side. Pretty sure teams will want Rizwan ahead of Saha as overall he is the better package who can be a stable solution for the team for the next 7-8 years.

Saha is a tremendous keeper and underachieved as a batsman. Not seen enough of Rizwan to make a proper comparison but seems to be a match better test bat than Saha.

Saha's biggest issue was his best years came when Dhoni was on his prime

The guy had talents that were on par with some of the best keeper bats in test matches but could never develop those skills

He should have moved away from Bengal in the ranjis.. playing on a spin friendly wicket for long didn't help his batting much

Rizwan is a magnificent keeper batsman. Runs in SENA are gold standards and his keeping is excellent too.

Sample size is low but if he maintains this for about 40 tests, he will be as good as Watling and de kock. de kock will eventually be a better batsman but Rizwan is a better keeper. He is Asia's current XI keeper batsman :inti

He needs to be batting and scoring crucial runs like Saha did in his last two games for SRH to be considered better.

Currently Rizwan is better than both Pant and Saha. He also bats sensibly and even when he is not wicketkeeping he fields and catches pretty well. :inti

Saha is the more talented cricketer of the two but won't get so many opportunities playing for India with their strength meaning Rizwan should be able to play more internationals

how much "more" should saha play .he has already played 29 test with batting of 29 it should be enough to judge where he stand as a batsmen

Rizwan's presence brings fear in the eyes of opposition while Saha's presence brings fear in eyes of Indian fans :inti.

Rizwan is better keeper and a better batter he will be in the same calibre as de kock, watling

Saha is fantastically talented... more than his average of 30 indicates. An insane talent

WK wise Saha is just ahead but that is debateable now, batting wise Riz is way ahead

Disagree, I'll take Saha any day of the week. His record is deceptive, look at the context. It's not apples vs apples to compare the two

I understand that, but both are keepers who bat in the lower order, mostly with the tail.

Could you point out some differences which you are referring to?

The statistics kinda betray the narrative that Saha is a great keeper, file it with the other hilarious claims by Indian fans about Mohammad Shami qualifying as an all-time great.

Since the beginning of 2018, the catch success percentages of Saha and Pant are exactly the same: 85%. Yes, there needs to be some context applied but those rough numbers show that Saha is no more than a workmanlike keeper. Particularly as those statistics account for Pant dropping 11 catches during that period.
