Yasir Shah should aim for quickest to 300 Test wickets to break Ravi Ashwin's record

Although Yasir Shah will become the fastest to 200 Test Wickets in Abu Dhabi next week.

However his real aim shall be to take 300 Test Wickets in 53 Test Matches (or earlier) to break legend Ashwin's record.

Generally 300 Test wickets are considered as standard number in Test Cricket History to be regarded as truly All time great. Western media judge bowlers pedigree once he reaches 300th Test Wicket. It is due to this reason DK Lillee was considered as the greatest fast bowler of all time since he was quickest to 300 Test wickets. (Although I believe Marshal was better).

Yes there have been few exceptions ( like Sydney Barnes, Grimmet ) who are considered great despite not taking 300 wickets.

Yasir Shah will have full 20 Test Matches (34-53) to take additional 100 wickets in order to break Ravi Ashwin's record. He can achieve this record but i think he will have to get some wickets in AWAY tours of South Africa 2019, Australia 2019 and England 2020.

These 8 Test matches abroad will be crucial for him. Because he will for sure deliver in UAE wickets.

Pakistan have a lot of away series coming up in next 3 years. From FTP, this is what it looks like - a total of 20-21 tests in 3 years (till Nov-Dec 2021) which has 11 tests outside Asia. Looks doable if keeps picking wickets in away tests.

South Africa - 3 tests
World championship in Eng (if they qualify)
SL in UAE - 2 tests
in Aus - 2 tests
BD in UAE/Pak/BD - 2 tests
in Eng - 2 tests
in NZ - 2 tests
SA in UAE - 2 tests
in ZIm -2 tests
In BD - 2 tests

I'm sure Yasir can pickup 55 wickets in 9 tests in UAE.

But picking up 4 wickets every match in SENA is not easy for a spinner.

If he can achieve it, he will definitely go down as an ATG in my books.

Honestly, if he just gets 300 wickets regardless of how quickly he gets it, he'll be a great in books. 300 test wickets is a massive achievement.
