There is no doubt that Hafeez has been one of our top performers since 2010 but there are doubts whether he can perform in overseas tours. Since his bowling ban he's started to show consistency and has performed good. Year 2016 poses a big challenge for him as he himself admitted he wants to perform in eng and aussie tours to be remembered in Pakistani greats. So far he has started 2016 on a good note with a match winning half century.
Can he prove his critics wrong ?
Hope he performs for the sake of Pakistan otherwise he will be always known as ftb and minnow basher.
All the best hafeez

He surprised me today. Played intelligently against tricky bowlers.

This is the redemption year for Hafeez, if he want's people to forget that horrid bunny-gate incident during the 2013 SA tour he needs to make sure his bat does the talking all throughout 2016.

Someone said during the match thread that its not that Hafeez does not have the talent to succeed as a top international batsman its just that he needs to show proper application and get his technique sorted out by leaving good balls, stop phishing outside off stump and play the ball on merit.

Am sure England, New zealand and Australian bowlers are licking their lips at bowling at hafeez in what will be testing conditions for him.

He'll retire from all formats by the end of the year I think. Will be 36 by then and theres no chance of him making the next T20 WC .

I'm sure that Mohammad Hafeez will do great - have high hopes for him.

It'll be his year alongside Asad Shafiq's who'll be able to turn the things around in the one-day format.

no way shafiq shouldn't be nowhere the odi team

exactly very important year for him

has failed in 50+ games
no solid performance
better players than him.available like Babar Harris Rizwan

I would like to see him in the team - being given a consistent and a fair run.

It's a failed discussion - I'm not interested with persisting on.

More chance of hell freezing over or BCCI arranging for Indian team to play pakistan in pakistan or UAE then the two things you have mentioned.

you can't say about hafeez
hes doing good these days

Yeah in conditions which are good for batting in the UAE. We will see how good he is in england, new zealand and Australia in next 12 months.

I am feeling that he will take retirement at the end of the year :(

He plays really well today but the thing is that almost half of the balls he played were dots.
in 47 balls he played 21 balls were dots.He should improve his strike rotation which is important in T20s.

As the year unfolds and Hafeez grotesque incompetent performances come to the surface, by the end of this year, this thread will be overflowing with immense hate and sheer criticism directed towards Hafeez with a single uniform denominator calling for his head.

Should do well in LOIs because flat tracks are prevalent almost everywhere and most curators tend to also favour them because crowds prefer high scoring games over bowler dominated games.

When is his ban being lifted? If we he survives until then with a few decent knocks, he will cement his place esepcially once he starts to bowl again

Redemption Kickstarted earlier, but really got set into motion after that scintillating 150 vs England in tests, his best test innings. Was good in the ODIs too.

Hmm.. ever since he changed his appearence with the Van Dyk beard and all he's turned into a better player... a lot like Sir Jaddu and Dhawan before CT13. :13:

but the question still remains can he perform in eng Aussie pitches

Knowing our players and their "retirements" - I think it is unlikely Hafeez will retire on his own terms.

He will be forced out like so many before him without a proper send off

I understand where OP is coming from because this could potentially be his last year in the game in some formats.

I would broaden it to say that 2016 is a key key year for all Pakistani batsmen whichever format they play:
1 - YK, will he end his career as a Pakistani great or be counted in the same league of the second tier of batsmen like Dravid, Kallis, Sangakarra
2 - Misbah also, with a horrid record overseas in tests has it all to prove. Sadly, I think a persistent injury might see him not able to continue
3 - Shafiq, Azhar, Sarfaraz: in varying degrees need to show that the platform they have created for themselves, especially in tests, will it translate to a strong performance abroad: in some ways this is probably the most important trio: their performance in tests will determine the next decade of Pakistan cricketing fortunes.
5 - Then there is shehzad: um.....I got nothing on him...will he find life beyond Afridi
6 - Sohaib and Junior will they find themselves or will they be replaced by guys like Imad, Rizwan etc.
7 - Will Fawad find a place in the playing eleven: I dont think he will, or even if he does, one or two early dismissals will seal his fate.
8 - Lastly, I think Harris Sohail will spend most of 2016 injured.

OP talks about Haeez only which is perfectly fine, but I would argue that the same applies to all the other batsmen in the team. I suppose the difference being that for Hafeez the stakes are higher than the younger lot.

hafeez has been in the news for his overseas performance and he has a point to prove this year that's why I only talked particularly about hafeez

yeah, i am not knocking your logic, its completely sound.
I am just adding on to it.

a good start to Odis in 2016 with scores of 42 and 76
hope he keeps performing

Hafeez is in form of his life. He should not let it go by high risk shots resulting in dismissals.

He played two high quality shots which were a treat to watch. There was no need for guiding ball to third man.

# Brilliant catch by Sam though.

Hafeez looked very good for the short time he was at the crease. Alan Wilkins described his flick as the best shot in the tournament so far (A bit OTT).. The idea by Hafeez was right, but that was literally plucked from the first slip position by Sam Billings.. it was extreme atheletism

Extra cover drive was very special too. He also played special special shots against Boult, Henry & Milne in last odi against NZ.

Should not surrender that form.

this is hafeez's year

Looking at the interview he has given after winning the game for Zalmi, Hafeez has realized what he has to do.

after a disappointing asia cup hafeez has somehow managed to perform better against bangla and didnt get a proper chance against india
looking forward to his performances against nz and aus
his performance will be crucial

A tough summer for Mohammad hafeez coming up
a test for hafeez
is hafeez a ftb or will he surprise us by performing in the upcoming test series???

Bhai are you a Hafeez fan?

hafeez is a pakistani cricketer and has been performing since last half decade so yes i like him but his ability and performance outside sc has always been questioned , thats why i want him to perform in the upcoming tours

Yeah, he is one of the cricketers I like watching as well. But his ability to play in tough conditions is questionable and the English tour will be a big test for him..

Played decently and got out to a bad shot. He will make it up in the 2nd innings. One of the few attacking batsmen in the lineup and if he gets going England better watch out.

Was very lucky not to be out for very little. But unlike Shan he made something of his luck. Still the top scorer for the innings....

He is Unfit.

A dyanamic treat to watch batsman when in ful flow but a Minnow Basher.

Need to ease him & Malik out in next 3 to 6 months. Unless Hafeez gets his Action Clear.

Clearly the Professor Failed the Examination !!! - A disappointment all throughout the English Summer TalentSpotterPk

If someone in tests nails the #6 spot, Hafeez doesn't clear his action, and Pakistan beat WI in ODIs; Hafeez shouldn't be brought back.

At this point I don't see Hafeez's value even if he clears his action, with the emergence of Nawaz and Imad

I'd rather not drop one of them to accomodate Hafeez

He'll be back.

Professor is grading some haters' papers, will pass out the grades at the end of the year in Aussie lecture hall. :hafeez

I wouldn't call him off yet.

If he can clear his bowling test, I would gladly
take him over Nawaz. I think we have forgotten how good of a bowler he really was.

Big(gest) fan of Hafeez.

Not sure if he fits into our plans going forward in any format, and his body of work doesn't inspire much confidence with the Oceania tour taking up most of our game days in the next 6 months or so.

why shouldn't we let a 21 year old kid develop instead of a 36 year old minnow basher ?
this is the perfect time for pakistan to invest in young guns
hafeez isnt needed now
thanks to him for serving pakistan for 13 years but now we should let the new kids play

He is done. An entirely predictable end. Cometh the moment cometh the choker

and returns to test cricket after 2 years
never say never in pakistani cricket
dont know how long will he stay with the team and one thing is for sure he ll feast on these uae dead pitches

He will play at the 2019 WC. We have no clue how to phase players out and when to bring new players in.

but i dont see him opening in odis

Don't rule it out. He is 37 years old. Selecting him doesn't improve our chances of winning the WC. He has failed in most tournaments so why try it again when he is on the decline ?
