What's new

Yet another omission after a very small number of failures....

Our captain (selectors??) justifying the selection of Azhar Ali.....

"form ooper neechey hoti rehti hai"....... Even when Azhar played a very rash shot when the team is trying to win/save the test.

wonder why same logic did not apply to Fawad Alam....??

this is very true ,very little tolerance when it comes to fawad alam.

I don’t support Azhar Ali in the team anymore, he should go. But this is flawed thinking.

Azhar has done more at the international level, been good for 7-10 years. Fawad hadn’t even been consistently good for 2 years. Fawad was always a fringe player, so he was always going to be looked with more scrutiny.

Azhar is an established player, he was always going to get more leeway.

If an establised payer is going to get more leeway then ..... that simply means, selectors expect a player that is not established to fail less than an established player! Does this make sense?

Let's say Abdullah Shafiq (a new commer) has a couple of bad series .... so by that logic, he should be dropped right away because he should get less leeway than an established player let's say Azhar Ali or Imam Ul Haq??

good post... People don't realize that Fawad only failed in 3 matches before being dropped. And this is after carrying pakistan's batting throughout last year. once someone earns a chance they should keep their spot for at least 5 tests. Instead pakistan's test cap is extrmely cheap it is rotated around like a hot potato.
Fawad did good in QEA as well, had a good streak at the end and ended up averaging 64.

The same applies to other players like Hasan and faheem, hasan only failed 4 matches after caryying pakistan in 2021. Faheem was in good form and was dropped after just one match I believe.

Of Course, all 3 of these players could be right back in the starting 11 for the NZ series seeing the way pakistan changes their team so often. Especially if they lose this series.

fawad alam has 4 hundreds in his last 20 innings ,more 100s than any other pakistani player in this period. Overall 5 hundreds in his short career of just 30 innings. Even in this period he averaged better than azhar ali the established player who failed miserably in 2018 and 19 . This is what azhar alis stats read since start of 2018.

average of 35 in last 34 tests and 60 innings.
lets just say that fawad alam doesnt get enough favor.

pakistan needs a selection strategy like New zealand, their players must work hard long and consistenly to finally earn a chance into the team, then thiey are supported witha long rope after. They dont have teenagers parachuted into the team and undercooked FC players like Naseem, haris, wasim jr joining the team with no FC experience.

People complain pakistan plays timid and darpok cricket, but they actually have to because they know that 1 bad match can rip away their dream of playing for pakistan. So of course they must be extremely nervous, they can't afford a low score and can't express themselves.

Abdullah is 23. Fawad is 37.

When you’re young and have the domestic performances to prove it, you will get chances with some room for error. You won’t get that room for error post mid 30s. The odds that you’ll overcome your deficiencies in your mid 30s are much lower.

Having said that, the way Fawad was discarded when he was younger was unfair, and fans are right to criticize PCB for that.

Fawad in his last 11 test innings .... average 32.88 - one 100 and two 50s.
Rizwan is last 10 test innings.... average: 23.60 - no 100 and no 50.

Will Rizwan be dropped in Karachi test - as he is playing as a specialist batsman?

Their is clear case of favoritism in Pakistan cricket . It’s not just now it is in culture you will see a player who failed 10-20 games but still gets support while other fails in 5-10 games he will be the first one booted out . Irrespective of technique or temperament.

Interestingly Sarfaraz Ahmed was dropped from the team after averaging 24.37 with two 50s .... in his last 5 tests.

Now Rizwan has averaged 23.60 in his last 5 tests.

Will the selectors drop Rizwan....as he has performed worse than or as bad as Sarfaraz??
