Your current World Test XI

Elgar
Karunaratne
Williamson
Kohli *
Root
Stokes
Bairstow +
Jadeja
Rabada
Boult
Anderson

Interesting choices. Boult has not been up to the mark since his hat trick.

I am surprised to see so many people pick Jadeja. How many test teams would pick Jadeja in their eleven outside Asia? The answer is probably none.

And no Abbass!

Agreed about Jadeja.

I would not pick Elgar, Boult, Rabada or Anderson in Asia.

Yasir was ineffective in ENG? He took 19 wickets, second highest in the series, more than Broad and Anderson. Yes he wasn't very good in 2 tests but he was one of the main reasons Pakistan won the first and the last test and drew the series.

Admittedly 19 wickets is more than I remember, but ten of them came in the first test at Lord’s and they all came at 41 each.

So you could reasonably say that the Magician of the UAE was sussed out by England after the first match. In the fourth test he got a last-innings fivefer but he had a mountain of runs behind him as the PAK quicks and then YK set up the win.

266/1
236/3

These kind of stats will pretty much seal the match for opposition no matter what others contribute. So if we can call taking 5-fers cheaply as winning single handily then these bowling stats should be called losing single handidly.

I won't have any issue in taking Yasir over Ashwin. I was simply making a point about match losing should be kept in mind if we are going to talk about match winning spells. He singlehandidly lost one test in Aus as well where he went over 5+ an over for entire test( 291/2) and Aus was able to get enough time to bowl out Pakistan.

In short, not being successful due to non-spinner friendly pitches are one thing, but singlehandidly losing is another. That's why over all performance is more important and I guess Robert is making that statement due to Yasir averaging 40+ in Eng.

How can one bowler single handling lose a test match. There are at least four bowlers in the team unless he was bowling their overs as well. I can understand this to be true in short form for instance being hit out of the park in the final over. Yasir did have a bad test at Old Trafford but one bowler cannot perform every match.

If picking 100/5 makes an argument that bowler is singlehandidly winning the match then doing 300/1 translates to opposite.

I don't think any player singlehandidly wins or loses a game. It's 11 players and their combined output, but I was simply responding to a post. You can say that Yasir has neither won or lost a match singlehandidly.

Maybe not singlehandidly but you can have one player is the difference between the 2 side hence why there is a man of the match award.

I get what you are saying but no team will ever single out a player out for a defeat, they take it collectively..

Will go with this one, a bit closer between Watling and de Kock but I think either way it's fine.

I would go for Watling for his ability to play long innings and be extremely patient. But de Kock is better in Australia and South Africa.
