Pitch was a minefield. If sa had batted first they'd be done and dusted by now.

But yes Carey and beau did better. However that's so stupid. That's like me saying what do you feel about sachin getting out on a duck against a delivery that razzaq smashed 4 back to back boundaries on in 2003 final?

Sehwag scored at a sr of 100 and was the lone warrior yet the god of cricket failed in the most prestigious event on the biggest of biggest stages?

How do you feel?
Nah, pitch had eased out, starc was not out on 58 in the same innings.

Not comparable to Sachin in 2003 as it was an impossible score to chase, no team has chased even 300+ in any world cup final. Good on Sachin for trying right from first over instead of stat padding. Usually he took time to settle but had to go from ball 1 because of the target. Even sehwags innings didn't help the team as it was an impossible task.

Lol hahah indian fans were hoping and predicting south africa will win the test.
Australia made them cry again.
Rakh khech ge Australia...
And this was the comment....yeah we are predicting south africa to win and they made it....how you feel now followed

I don't understand why people make fun of temba bavuma.
His average was over 60 in this world test championship and scored more than 700 runs.
He is a very good captain and very good test player.
He didn't lose a single match in this WTC as captain. Zero losses and 1 draw. All other matches win.

We all know the reason certain people make fun of him.

Wow that's very impressive. He has good instinct as a captain. Hopefully he keeps performing as a player and as a captain.

BEFORE THIS FINAL:

-Captain Pat Cummins had never lost a final
-Mitchell Starc had never lost a final.
-Hazlewood had never lost a final.

Captain Temba Bavuma and his army have broken all the streaks

Yep I am sure if abd played a final they would have choked though.

My partners team finally won a trophy so I am happy
Aussies choked and that’s the reality. I like your bitterness and it is one of the sweetest one. All hail KG Rabada :rabada

Pitch eased out on day 3, not on day 2. On day 2 it was difficult and starc got edged and dropped numerous times.

Dont formulate excuses to argue sachin > Steve Smith.

Steve Smith had a better peak, only after a form slump they have been debatable with Smith still averaging more.

Not to mention Smith doesnt have dravid, Laxman, Sehwag, Ganguly batting around him, he has Travis, Labu, Green, khawaja etc etc, its a far more difficult situation.

Just admit that Sachin isnt no 1 in everything and Will never be no 1 in test cricket as long as Bradman exists.

Your own hero admits this and wisden itself states it.

Im not referring to averages, as ww2 is a different era but Bradman was undisputed no 1 in his era in all metrics while sachin was not.

Ponting had a better peak, Kallis and Sanga have a higher career avg, Lara had more iconic knocks such as his one wicket win vs Pakistan etc etc and overall more clutch moments.

Nor could he score 500 runs in a test series despite it being achieved by his peers multiple times over. He also has a pretty avg record in Pakistan despite his indian brothers having better records vs PAK.

Sachin is >>> Them but due to longetivity. They all had career slumps, fell off and eventually had questionable performance in certain countries.

Bur sachin was never undisputed no 1 hear by year as he never even topped the charts except twice in 24 years.

In order to put Sachin >>>>>>> One has to look at his whole career and compare them with others entire career. Which is fair and fine.

But if you look at Viv, its clear that he is no 1 odi batter for his era, regardless of series, year, countries, opposition etc, same with Bradman.

Kohli in odi would be viewed > as well but he failed in 2015 where Smith was > him in that year, Failed in 2012-2013 due to a poor Pakistan series which puts him slightly below that spectrum in odi in regards to viv.

Steve Smith in peak was basically Bradman in that he was >>> everyone for 8 entire years in every metric, something no test batter has done since Bradman, not even your hero. But due to form slump they are now Realtive and more or less = to one another.

Steve Smith had to lose form in order to be debatable with sachin in test cricket. Let that sink in.

Smith dropped temba bavuma early on inni gs....Had he been caught bavuma the story would have been different.Ohh boy smith you dropped the wtc ...

World Cup semifinal , World T20 final , CT semifinal, WTC winner . All happened after SA20 kicked off.

In contrast, apart the CT 2017, Pakistan Cricket does not have much to show for it in any format of the game. In fact i would say with the proliferation of T-20 leagues, Pakistani bowling stocks especially fast bowling has fallen in ODI and Test Cricket.

Australia needs a batting rebuild. The warning signs were there after conceding a 2-0 lead in 2023 Ashes, the series vs Pakistan who really should've won the last two Tests, the shock Brisbane defeat vs WI, and Perth hammering vs India.

There's several past the age of 30 so big transition coming up.

Temba bavuma looks such a genuine nice guy. Happy for him. I hated it Pakistani players try to sledge him before champions trophy.
Very underrated player.

Kg is one of the best ever bowlers and my favourite actually? Lmao

Bumrah and Rabada are the goat bowlers of this generation

Not your cummo

And those 2 are already in top 10. Actually cummo makes it too. But only just.

South Africa is literally my second favourite team after India and my partner is a saffer.

SA is getting mauled lol. They ain't winning. One of the most overrated test teams.

Their not bad, their solid, but NZ and England are better test teams then SA. Australia just need to watch out for the Rabada storm
How's the Josh? As soon as you started supporting Aussie ( Post 2023) they haven't win any ICC events. :kp

Thats what i tell about ct17 too but amir fans dont agree.
Fakhar had won the match in first inning just like ponting ad martyn did in 03.

Pat Cummins is my favourite cricketer Saar, He supports our army Saar. I want him to win Saar 😭

No saar. I'm a bigger fan of IT professionals like Netravalkar, saar. Showed some talentless Abduls their real Aukaat in cricket

I'm more than happy to support expat Indians over Pat Cummins, saar. : rabada2

Who are these 'Abduls' you keep mentioning? Did you graduate from WhatsApp University or what? Only people from there think every Muslim is named Abdul. So what should we call you and the other andhbhakts? Ram Prasad? :yk :inti

‘Ashutosh’, very tough Indian name.

Congrats to SA and all their fans, they took out all their hurt over the years on the grandest stage, against Australia no less. Happiest day for all neutral cricket fans to (minus India).

Tremendous batting by SA in the 4th innings under some serious pressure. Full credit to SA. Aussies need to make some tough changes. Khwaja needs to be dropped for good alomg with Labu. Aus openers were known to be attacking and positive. These 2 guys are so pathetic batting at 1-2 rpo. Khwaja has been mediocre for a while now . The next Ashes will be a blockbuster series. Cant wait for it - will be a terrific series to watch ! But before that the Ind-Eng test series should be good as well

Only 7 people (including myself) voted South Africa on who will win this match? Rest were all wrong

One person jumped on the bandwagon today, yesterday it was 7

Impressed with most of the interviews from the Saffers, they spoke like they knew they were destined to win; credit to their great leader for instilling that self belief. They beat Australia psychologically, this is an unreal victory. Rabada will go down in history to as a legend of the game, 9fer in the ultimate Test bah gawd almighty, they’ve done it.

Funny thing is that the SA finally won an ICC final when they were the least favourites to do so.

But our buddy @mominsaigol claimed before the start of the game that a true Pakistani must support Australia.

Temba Bavuma after winning WTC final:

“It's been a special couple of days, at some points it felt like we were in SA. We prepared hard, we came in with a lot of belief and lot of doubters, glad we played well,” said Bavuma.

“Special moment for us and people back home, probably will sink in a couple of days. The energy was there, I think us as a team have been wanting this. We've been relentless, getting to the doorstep consistently and experienced heartache, the sun's been with us. Hopefully, this win is one of many.

“We got ourselves into the final, there were doubters on the route we took, this win squashes that. Here's an opportunity for us as a nation, divided as we are, to unite. You can be rest assured we'll celebrate as one.

South Africa Players React to Historic WTC Win

Temba Bavuma, captain
“It’s been a special couple of days. At some point, it felt like we were back in South Africa with all the support. We’ve worked hard for this moment. We came here with a lot of belief — and doubters — and we’re happy we played well enough to win.

We’ve been knocking at the door, going through heartache and disappointment. The sun is on us now. KG [Rabada] is massive — he came in with motivation and delivered like a champion.

People asked why Aiden [Markram] is in the team. We value character. He showed that in true Aiden fashion.

We heard the noise about our route to the final — supposedly weaker teams — but hopefully this performance squashes that. For a divided country, this is a moment to forget all that and just be one.”

“Dreams Are Meant to Be Achieved”: Players on Emotional Triumph

Aiden Markram (Player of the Match)
“It’s weird how things work out. A duck in the first innings, then runs in the second. Lord’s is the place every Test cricketer wants to play. Really grateful.

Everyone played with intent. It helped. I had banter with Nathan Lyon. If it kept spinning, he’d be a handful. Great to play against the best.

A lot came from Temba. He never gave up. Found a way to score crucial runs and built a key partnership. People will remember that."

Kagiso Rabada
“Can’t describe how I feel. People said we didn’t play good enough opposition — that’s rubbish. We beat the best. These last four days felt like a home game. Thank you to everyone.”

Keshav Maharaj
“Tears won’t describe this. It’s just a privilege. Unity, the crowd, the journey — it’s all special. We honour those before us and hope this is just the start of better things.”

Marco Jansen
“I was just praying. So many nerves. But we got the job done. Aiden? Unfreaking believable. What a player. Temba too — fighters. That’s what dreams are made of.”

Shukri Conrad, coach
“We got the best batting conditions. But that stand from Aiden and Temba — that won us the game. I even said Temba should stop [batting hurt] — shows how little coaches know!”

Lungi Ngidi
“Speechless. That spell was about trying to break the game open. I’m proud. The blood pressure is high — but I’m proud.”

David Bedingham
“Amazing. I was nervous. But Temba and Aiden calmed us. It’s been 27 years. Thankful we got over the line.”

Kyle Verreynne
“I didn’t want to go bat! I was so nervous. Aiden did beautifully. Then Bedingham and I got it done. Hearing the fans singing — it means a lot. We’ve had a tough time. This is incredible.”

Fantastic win by SA here. Next goal to lift limited over trophy.
Would you trade Indias t20 WC for wtc?

I wouldn’t because we really needed that icc trophy

But now that we won the t20 WC again I prefer to win a series away in sena over the wtc final still. But I wouldn’t take wtc final win over t20 WC from here on

Rabada and Markram etched their name in history with the contributions they made in this match. Rabada is already one of the GOATs of this era. But Markram played an innings for the ages. Don't really care about people talking about how much the "pitch had flattened out by the fourth innings"...to play this innings in a runchase against arguably the best bowling attack in the world and inarguably the most experienced bowling attack in the world is nothing short of remarkable. Starc, Cummins, Hazlewood and Lyon have like 1400 test wickets between them. That's nothing to sneeze at. Meanwhile none of the South African batters even average 40 with the bat. But they turned up and played like champions. Because deep down they believed they were every bit as good as the Australians. This is where other teams lose against the Australians. You gotta have that self-belief and confidence...especially during the tough moments. That's what separates the best from the rest.

Hoping this leads to a renewed level of interest in test cricket in South Africa. Because they have all the makings of a fantastic test team here. And they didn't even have two of their most exciting fast-bowlers Gerald Coetzee and Nandre Burger playing in this match. Just goes to show the amazing depth of their side.

Agree with this.

As successful as the trio of Starc, Hazelwood, Cummins and Lyon has been, they have lost some significant series as well ie loss to Sri Lanka in 2016, Losses to India both home and in India from 2016 to 2023, a tied series at home against a weak WI in 2022, an ODI series loss to Pakistan in 2023 at home and now they have lost a WTC final when they were heavy favorites. Cummins would have lost the 2023 Ashes in England had it not rained on the last day of the fourth test.

I have to say the Australian Cricket system has become very soft to tolerate so many failures. The likes of Damien Martyn, Jason Gillespie, Michael Kasprowicz saw their careers ended for good in 2005 after one bad Ashes series and the selectors never gave them a second proper chance again. Such were the standards and ruthlessness of previous Australian legendary sides

No team is invincible. Australia were beaten at home by South Africa too back in 2016. But at the end of the day, Australia is still one of the best teams in the world right now (if not the best). Two consecutive WTC finals over a four year period is a testament to their consistency and evidence of how successful Pat Cummins's captaincy has been.

Since Cummins became captain, Australia have won 25 test matches, lost 8, drawn 7 at a W/L ratio of 3.1. For context, the next best team during this period is England who have won 23, lost 17 and drawn 4 at a W/L ratio of 1.3. That's how good Australia have been under Cummins, which is also why this win by South Africa is so massive.

Indian cricket team has become soft
Letting kohli be Rohit ruin our test prospects since 2021

They were all great and India had a legit elite best team from 2014 to 2021 but then everything fizzled out after they appointed useless Rohit in tests.

Now they won in LoI but real fans don’t care for loi

Tests is what matters to us.

That’s nice. Most Indians and other nations also have Saffers as 2nd or 3rd favourite team so it is understandable.

It is a great win for South Africa and ends the trophy drought for them but just a reminder that they should not think what they achieved is already bigger than what past South Africans have done.

They haven’t won a white ball ICC tournament and also haven’t beaten a strong test team away from home yet. It is a one-off win vs Australia and a good one but let’s not demean the past SA teams or players.

I don’t know hey
Would you trade t20 World Cup for a wtc win?

Now that we have won 2 I would rather have the wtc

But ideally I want a series win over England and one of SA/nz

Over anything else
Even more than a WC or wtc final

Cause wtc final is a stupid concept

Most teams don’t play enough games and not all teams play top sides etc. it’s not even.

the transition period will hit aus hard. all the bowlers barring cummins will be above 34 soon. the top order is looking very weak.
the all rounders and the lower order have dug them out of losing positions quite often past few years.

A massive Congratulations to South Africa on winning the Test Championship.

Thoroughly deserved.

Especially happy for the Rainbow nation after their stance and decisive action on Palestine.

Nathan lyon is done. He should be dropped along with Usman khawaja and cameron green.

Lol.

Lyon going nowhere for the next year at least.

Uzzie should hang up the gloves I agree but the selectors fluffing around with Konstas means that we now have to keep Uzzie until at least January because we need to settle Konstas first, before adding another new opener.

Green is going to be in the Oz team for the next decade, get used to it. Shouldn't bat at 3 in England though. Oz have a bit of a batting crisis coming up with Uzzie and Smith ageing out + Marnus poor extended form needs dropping.

Green should be #4. When Smith comes back he should be #3 until Inglis or another is ready for that.

Congrats to Saffers, fully deserved. Great to see Rabada take the occasion and go toe to toe with Cummins et al.

Still waiting for the muppet who told me Bavuma would be a walking wicket to show his face again... In a low scoring thriller his runs are worth +50% there and he'll always be a WC winning captain. Matchwinner along with Markram and Rabada.

Kind of loving that NZ and SA have WTC wins and India / England do not. Format allows all teams to qualify and if Big 3 don't want to play "lesser" nations they can keep racking up points if they are good enough and then show up and steal the prize- proving they deserve more matches and the Big 3 is a bit of narcissism at times.
