The three-match ODI battle between India and South Africa comes down to the final showdown this Saturday, December 6, at ACA-VDCA Cricket Stadium, Visakhapatnam. Toss is set for 1:00 PM IST — and with heavy dew in play, it could prove decisive.

South Africa, led by Temba Bavuma, stunned India with a record chase of 359 in the second ODI. Aiden Markram’s brilliant century and strong middle-order support powered the visitors to level the series 1-1, while India’s bowlers struggled under the slippery conditions.

India’s bizarre streak of 20 consecutive toss defeats continues, and another loss here could see South Africa clinch both the Test and ODI series after their 2-0 sweep earlier. With a five-match T20I series looming right after, India will be desperate to seal this ODI contest and restore momentum.

Squads:
India: KL Rahul © (WK), Dhruv Jurel (WK), Rishabh Pant (WK), Ruturaj Gaikwad, Yashasvi Jaiswal, Virat Kohli, Rohit Sharma, Ravindra Jadeja, Nitish Kumar Reddy, Tilak Varma, Washington Sundar, Arshdeep Singh, Harshit Rana, Kuldeep Yadav and Prasidh Krishna.

South Africa: Temba Bavuma ©, Quinton de Kock (WK), Rubin Hermann (WK), Ryan Rickelton (WK), Matthew Breetzke, Dewald Brevis, Tony de Zorzi, Aiden Markram, Corbin Bosch, Marco Jansen, Prenelan Subrayen, Ottneil Baartman, Nandre Burger, Keshav Maharaj and Lungi Ngidi.

Sad to see that idrc about odi anymore outside of cups.

I completely forget this series was happening

India have won the toss and have opted to field

(Playing XI): Ryan Rickelton, Quinton de Kock(w), Temba Bavuma(c), Matthew Breetzke, Aiden Markram, Dewald Brevis, Marco Jansen, Corbin Bosch, Keshav Maharaj, Lungi Ngidi, Ottneil Baartman

India (Playing XI): Rohit Sharma, Yashasvi Jaiswal, Virat Kohli, Ruturaj Gaikwad, Tilak Varma, KL Rahul(w/c), Ravindra Jadeja, Harshit Rana, Kuldeep Yadav, Arshdeep Singh, Prasidh Krishna

Prasidh Krishna is still playing. Wow

Good to see Tilak finally get the chance.

:kp

So finally India wins one toss...And Starc did'nt get a wicket in his first over.....

time to invest in a lotto ticket :ua

Prasidh is run machine for apposition team.

Six in every over. Now back to back six by de kock

:klopp :kp

Dew won't matter much because this is a 70-30 red soil pitch.
Dont think vizag gets much dew either, port cities generally get lesser dew than inland cities....

And two consec 6's by SAF - our bowlign getting a phaint....sure to bring more traffic here...

I think there is a bit of dew but it sets in later.

But more importantly, unlike those earlier black soil wickets it won't impact the match as much.

India anyway should have batted first to see if Tilak was any good at #6

No Dew...no party for SA.

Easy win coming up for Bharat

:kp

Wow brevis was lucky.ball hit him exactly where hughes got hit.additional protection saved him.

The massive prob with Prasidh is his length. He always is either too short or too full. He rarely is good length or pitches it up.
I might be wrong but a lot of similar tall guys like Ishant, Srinath, Steve Finn, Jamieson- in recent times, Cam green, Morkel, Mervyn dillon of wi to name a few had similar probs.
If he gets his lenght right, he is a handful cue - the 5th test at Oval - the last innings he got 3 odd by pitching it up, that wicket of Josh Tongue was an absolute beaut....

Beautiful Drone shot of NH-16 Chennai highway with the mountains in the back ground and the wonderful beach with the para-sailer.
I've hiked in the Simhachalam hills which frame Vizag - some terrific hiking trails here, Vizag is an absolute under rated gem of a city, beautiful beaches - one of the best cities surely.

2 wickets due to change in length, wonder why he cannot do this more often? he's much better than his figures suggest

i've said this before in this ODI series. All three wickets at Ranchi, Raipur and Vishakhapatnam are fabulous even bounced even paced wickets. There is is bounce on offer if you bend your back, there is seam movement and a hint of swing. There is spin if you are good enough - like kuldeep and the batsmen will enjoy hitting through the line and on the up.

Such wickets make for compelling viewing and for far too long we have been bagged for preparing spin pits -which i detest completely and agree that criticism is warranted

but when we get it right - surely some credit is due.... :ua

Will the perception of indian pitches ever change?

What's wrong with Jaiswal ?
Nothing, he should Play however he want to Play in this match. He needs a Big innings to get back the confidence back .

No Require run rate issue here. We all know he can Play at fast rate so he is playing slow here is not an issue.

:kp

India 153-0 .... India cruising for a massive win..... Rohit Sharma another brilliant knock

Dew will be a massive issue in the world T20 next year. It is impossible for teams to defend total here.

Jaiswal was constantly sidelined in LOI format for the last 2 years . Glad he got his chance and he made it count despite being in out of form. It is always good to see a century when you are not at your peak

He should play at no 7 when gill returns....jadeja is washed....

Kohli in his 16 year old ODI career never hit more than 9 sixes in a single series. This is the first time he has crossed that. 12 sixes for the series.

There is more bounce in this red soil pitch in Vizag. This chase is more impressive because dew does not have much impact on the pitch.

India should have batted first to test Tilak Varma as a #6.

Wasted opportunity

Jadeja even at his peak was a useless finisher. There was a reason why they dropped him after 2017 debacle. SOmehow came back because he was a better fielder, his test batting got better.

Jaiswal should learn some off Spin and play at no 6 in odis....jadeja is test cricketer

India batted second because by batting first there was the possibility of losing the match. If the match is lost, SA would have won a rare double in India - Winning both test and ODI series in India. This double was last won in India by Pakistan in 1987.

Yes but I think it's more important to build a squad and we don't have a #6.

More important to test that out I guess

India 1st match batting 1st despite loosing toss

series wins don't mean anything in ODI and T20s. Test series is the only meaningful series win. ODI/T20 series is all about oogetting something out for the future.
It's important to win but it's even more important to develop players for all roles first

This series has proven India is reliant on Kohli and Rohit.

Once these two retire, India may become a mid-tier ODI team (just like their Test team). :inti

This is how cricket series should win.... subcontinent minnow teams to learn from Team India

Great to see Virat letting it loose at this age playing one format. Never seen him hitting sixes this frequently. This is a Virat who wants to unleash
