The best airlines?

Good experiences of air travel?

Poor experiences?

Good examples of customer service from airline companies?

Any experiences of poor customer service you've received from airlines?

PIA the worst, EasyJet for a budget airline was okay
British Airways very good
The middle eastern airlines the best (Emirates, Etihad)
I have heard Qatar Airways are excellent, though not personally used them

Emirates: very good
Etihad : very good but never provide hotel stay during long transit stay.
China southern air lines: provides hotel stay but generally flight delays most of the time and not very good on board service.
PIA: Avoid at all costs
Uzbek Airways : Cost effective option and generally good.Language barrier can be an issue if you cant speak russian or uzbek language.
Saudi Airlines : before it used to be good but didnt get a chance to travel with them off late.
Air Astana : Very good. Also Etihad airways partner company

Qantas- Very good!

US Airways and American Airline- both are ok, with American Airlines, I personally didn't like the fact no snack is offered for flights that are domestic (not talking about 2-3 hr flights here), but how about a cross country flight (East coast to the West, thats like going from NYC to London).

PIA- I don't know why it gets unfair criticism, personally never really have had a "bad" experience with them..I feel sometime it gets unfair criticism. Well once, I had to fly with them with no entertainment system onboard (but thats a one off, I hope they can improve further, I keep hearing more and more bad things about them).

Tiger Airways- I guess if you are EXTREMELY time punctual (good budget airline), if your not at the checkin desk 45 min early for a flight, HAVE to pay an $85 fine for the next flight, which I think is excessive for a domestic carrier.

Will be using Jetstar airways in a few days, will let you guys know about it as well.

Thai Airways - Excellent. Treated me like a kid. Top notch service. They kept serving you food every second.

Emirates Airline - worst. rude attitude shown by Arab stewardess. But it was a short flight from Karachi to Dubai. No leg space as well. I had high expectations even for a short flight but I was very disappointed.

PIA - Average. Food served was disgusting. Lots of baby sitting and arguments going on among passengers during flight.

Emirates - Accurate and excellent service.

Shaheen Air - Satisfactory

PIA - It was good before but now very poor. Once my flight was scheduled at 1500 hours and when I was about to leave for Airport at 1300 hours, I received a text message from PIA saying that flight has been delayed for two hours so I stayed at home for another two hours. When I was again about to leave for Airport, at 1459 hours another text message arrived and I was shocked when I read that the flight will depart as per schedule i.e. 1500 hours .

When I contacted them, they advised me to rush to airport, I might still catch the flight but when I got there, the flight already departed. I fought with them, showed them the text messages and then they gave me ticket for next flight.

I Have traveled with 4 airlines

Let's start with Uzbak Airline, few years ago this was the cheapest airline from pakistan to italy and quality wise it was really bad , they were rude and were bribing the passengers . our stay was in taaskent and the airpost was like a bus station and we were forced to sit on the floor as we were not having enough chair

After this experirnce i decided to travel with PIA and believe me this was even worst , While traveling from Milan to lahore vis france a person sitting besides me started to vomit , The smell spread in the plane and i called the air hostess to clean it and change our seats but she replied( i'm sorry sir we don't have resources to clean it , you have to wait until we reach paris so fot 1.5 hours we had to bear that smell and as all the seats were filled we spend those 1.5 hours standing

My third experience was with ethihad and it was by far the best air line .. Clean ,very well managed , helpful and respected full people and next year i 'm planning to visit pakistan by turkish airline , let's see how it goes

Air India - Okay service. A huge plus is the taste of desi food compared to other airlines. Staff is surprisingly helpful.

Aeroflot - H.O.R.R.I.B.L.E. Staff is rude. Customer service over the phone is rude. Poor in-flight service. Atrocious food.

Air France - Great service. Food is okay. Only problem is most layovers are at CDG airport in Paris which is a PITA to walk through because it's huge.

KLM - Best of the lot of "non-desi" airlines. Helpful staff. Good in-flight service.

Jet Airways - Has to be one of my favorite airlines. Great food. Great service. Their air hostesses make the flight experience more pleasant.

Air Canada - This is the one I have travelled the most in - mainly because it's cheap. Otherwise, passable service and food. Their staff seems like they are uninterested in being there, and doing their job.

Swiss - Average. Nothing horrible and nothing spectacular about them.

Cathay Pacific - Great service. Staff is helpful. Food was okay too for a "non-desi" airline.

United Airlines - Cheap tickets. Nothing more to say about them.

Best experience with Lufthansa. I missed a connecting flight at Frankfurt, and the staff was apologetic about it, offered me to make two international calls, and gave 15 euros so that I can have food while I wait, and then apologized to say they don't have an economy seat in the next available flight, so will I be OK with sitting in business class?

OMG that is a nightmare!

Air Canada
Pro - Entertainment system, best movies
Cons - Over worked staffs that look like zombies, rated for one of the worst customer service, cramped leg rooms, long delays

AVOID AIR CANADA.

Emirates Airline (Brilliant service, no delays, good food, decent fares too and up to date fleet) 10/10

Etihad Airways like emirates good service, fleet , staff

Qatar Airways Modern up to date airline with good service, planes, flies to almost every destination , fares slightly on the higher side sometimes, food and comfort is excellent.

PIA Iv had bad experiences in terms of rude staff, delays , the food quality has deteriorated, the comfort level has decreased, in flight system is rubbish.

American Airlines Decent airline to travel

Air Blue staff is good ;) , Fleet is decent for not so longer routes

Air India Again decent , only traveled once experience wasn't too bad

Other airlines I have travel on are Kuwait airways , Gulf Air , British Airways, KLM which are very good too.

Kish Airways , Shaheen scary

American Airlines - horrible
Etihad - good
Emirates - good, except when I was boarding from dubai all the desi aunties thought it was cool to cut in front of the line
British Airways - Very good
United - Okay

Cant go wrong with Emirates first class. Love it. Wish I could afford to do it more often.

I used to think 3-4 years ago that why would anyone do it as to me it seemed a waste of money for sth so temporary but honestly once you get to experience it you dont wanna change

Best - Jet Airways, King Fisher(Both Indian Domestic Airlines). All Indian stewards. Treat you with respect. All are young and quick. Excellent service.

Worst - Malaysian, Delta, American Airlines, KLM.(All have pathetic old planes and Air hostess do not come back with the stuff you asked for)

If I have to pick an absolute worst, it has to be Malaysian.

Actually my best travel experience was also my worst.

I was flying from Khi to Houston with a connection in UAE and Amsterdam. The flight end up delaying at the stopover in Dubai. We were hauled to a local hotel. During the flight I noticed a really pretty girl traveling alone to US to meet her bros family in NY. The conversation started at the hotel breakfast cafe/bar. We travelled more or less together back to the airport from the hotel in the airport van. As if by coincidence out of a Bollywood movie, our seats were together with one seat in between. Turned out their was another girl traveling by herself who opted to sit next to the window, while me and her sat next to each other, me getting the aisle seat. She was a real talker and quite funny. Not really my type and a little older than me but her beautiful face made everything alright. At our next stop in Amsterdam, we both knew this is becoming a DDLJ story. We both window shopped the duty free shops together. I begin to notice a few uncle and aunties on the plane with us giving us a little stare as if to say "ye kia horaha hai". The sweetest moment was when we were both trying to take naps and I woke up noticing her head resting against my shoulder as she slept. The air hostess passing through noticed that and looked at us with an annoyed and somewhat judgmental way and almost woke her up while I pretended that I'm sleeping too, but she didn't. In any case, the farewell happened at the JFK airport during immigration. We exchanged numbers and smiles. I thought at that time that this is it, she is the one. Fate has brought us together.

I took the connecting flight to Houston. Got the first seat in the plane where they don't have any seats in front to use their back pouches to put passport etc in. I kept it on the side. When the plane landed, either out of exhaustion or lost in her thoughts I just stood up took my hand luggage and left, forgetting my passport and visa back in the plane. Didn't realize it till I got back home and then almost hysterically drove back to the airport but it was too late. No passport, no visa. Just entered US and had to start my job in a week. Needless to say my world turned upside down. Took me 6 months to replace all the documents I lost, fortunately my workplace didn't fire me and waited for me. And the kicker was, after I lost my passport/visa and had just applied to the US consulate for replacement visa documents, 911 happened. Those were the worst 6 months of my life.

As for the girl. Talked to her on the phone and after only 2-3 weeks realized that we are worlds apart so that dream got over soon, only this time I was the one who broke it off instead of the girl.

Lovely. Too bad it didn't work out with her.

Food is a big issue as far as airlines are concerned.

I need good quality food because I am not a good flier and have a tendency to get sick while flying.

Also , I cannot afford Business class therefore to sleep is also tough in economy class.

Such a cute story, too sad it didn't work out. :(

Cruel Air hostesses btw.

A sad ending but it was facinating while reading about airport experience.
As always judgmental people , Its a big issue that we cant give space to others to live as they want to live.

I have traveled on a plane only once in life (PIA was the airline), which is too long ago to remember much of the details.

Three things I remember are:

1. I didn´t use the toilet.

2. The rice they served us with weren´t the best ever......

3. They had some device attached somewhere next to the seats to listen to music with the headphones. It was a pretty awful collection of songs, with myself only going through a half of singer Sajjad Ali´s "Paaniyo´n mey´n chal rahi hai´n kashtiya´n pyar ki.... ", or something like that.

Actually my best travel experience was also my worst.

Wow, what story-telling! You were so good at getting the reader to feel engaged throughout till the end.

Here is how I expected the climax to be: with all those documents and your passport lost, you lost her number as well, and that, that she herself never called you. Now that would have been such a painful ending, a perfect one for tragedy-lovers like me! A poem would have been even better though......

Thanks man! You made my Sunday!

How has the experience been on Turkish Air? I got an amazing fare to Lahore in October from London.

Turkish Airlines 2010 - trip to Istanbul good airline, food ok, good service from air hostesses.

BA/Iberia 2009- short haul flight to Madrid so can't really compare with long haul.

Qatar 2009 - trip to Dubai, best flight experience ever even though flight was 1 hour delayed, good food and in flight entertainment. No problem with crew apart from guy who wanted to know if we were Indian!

PIA 2003 - flight delayed, staff were poor, in flight entertainment system not working.

.... A poem would have been even better though......

saadibaba Well, an attempt at least from me to describe the events. I had completed this on Thursday itself but needed time to make those footnotes. I was too fascinated by it to have overcome this easily.

An eventful flight

"My eventful flight,
Trouble followed brief delight
, 1
Divine forces seated us together, 2
Leaving others to bother, 3
Every auntie stares and judges, 4
Uncles too, overcome by grudges, 5
The way she talked and every joke she cracked, 6
So lost we were, nothing could distract,
A beautiful face rested against my shoulder,...... 7
Unforgettable it gets as I get older.

Sadly not a match made in heaven,
8
But for a day the plane flew through the heavens."

Completed at 15:06 CEST, 7th August 2014.

Footnotes based on the details provided by Saadibaba:

1. "Trouble" refers to him having lost his visa, passport etc. afterwards. He lost them in the plane. It took him six months to get all the documents replaced.

2. "our seats were together with one seat in between. Turned out their was another girl traveling by herself who opted to sit next to the window." So they weren´t meant to sit together originally, but so it happened.

3. As he himself relates, people in the plane did feel a bit annoyed......

4. "I begin to notice a few uncle and aunties on the plane with us giving us a little stare."

5. Out of jealousy, you know.....

6. "She was a real talker and quite funny."

7. "The sweetest moment was when we were both trying to take naps and I woke up noticing her head resting against my shoulder as she slept."

8. "Talked to her on the phone and after only 2-3 weeks realized that we are worlds apart so that dream got over soon."

Agreed. Am a frequent flyer with emirates but their service is the worst of all major airlines I have seen.

They have their own set schedules to do things and almost get annoyed at you for requesting anything outside this. Absolutely ridiculous.

Obviously business class is a lot better, but these double standards of treating economy fares with some sort of sense of disdain is pretty poor.

Other pet hates of mine is too many announcements (Arabic and English) and them taking away your headphones 45 minutes before landing just to follow their own processes and not spend time doing it once the passengers have got off. I find this odd. What are yo supposed to do if you were watching something and now have to sit for 45 minutes doing nothing. A bit ridiculous.

That said they're never late, and their entertainment system is pretty good.

Also, Thai Airways planes are nowhere near as good as Emirates but their service is amazing.

Will be flyig with Etihad day after tomorrow inshaALLAH.
I hope things will get better in lahore because Daewoo will not be operational if situation get worse.

Qantas promises direct flights from Sydney to London and New York

Qantas has announced it will begin operating non-stop flights from Sydney to London and New York from 2025.

Australia's national carrier said it had purchased a new fleet of Airbus A350-1000 jets capable of direct flights to any city in the world.

The first Sydney-London flights will depart in late 2025 and take about 20 hours, making them the world's longest passenger flights.

The route, launched in 1947, once took 58 hours and seven stops.

"It's the last frontier and the final fix for the tyranny of distance," chief executive Alan Joyce said in a statement.

Qantas has been working on the plan - dubbed Project Sunrise - for about five years, but implementation has been delayed by the Covid-19 pandemic.

In 2018 it began offering direct 17-hour direct flights between London and Perth in Western Australia, and in 2019 it conducted a series of test flights from the east coast to the UK and New York.

The new fleet of 12 planes will begin arriving in 2025, with the order to be completed by 2028.

The airline did not say how much it would charge for seats in its four classes: first, business, premium economy and economy.

Each plane will be able to carry 238 passengers with 40% of the cabin dedicated to premium seating.

Seats will be roomier than usual, Qantas says.

Travellers will also be able to access a "wellbeing zone" in the centre of the plane - with a self-service snack bar and space for stretching and movement - to combat the effects of spending 20 hours in the air.

Paul Charles, chief executive of travel consultancy firm The PC Agency, said the success of the route relied on a cheaper price to attract travellers - who would otherwise break their journey with a stop in the Middle East.

The former Virgin Atlantic communications director said: "It's fine if you're in business class and at the front of the plane with more space, but if you're flying economy most people will want to break their journey and it would be a very tough 20-hour flight.

"The only way to attract travellers to use that service will be to have a really cheap fare, and this will create a price war because you'll find the Middle East airlines will fight to attract passengers to fly to Australia and reduce their prices too."

He predicted Qantas would have a challenge on their hands to make the flight comfortable and entertaining for passengers, as well as ensuring their wellbeing would not be affected by such a long flight.

But Mr Charles added other airlines would follow suit with ultra-long flights, if Qantas showed there was the demand.

"The question is in 2025 when this is due to launch, what will the world look like?" he said.

"Will we want to fly such long-haul routes or will consumers want to fly short-haul on more environmentally friendly flights that are shorter in duration?"
