Pakistan's T20 World Cup 2022 Squad

After seeing our team get tested against India, its proven that our middle order batting is fragile and inexperienced. Sadly there were not enough pool of players prepared and going into the WC in Australia I personally feel we should recall some of our experienced players who did perform well in the past and some I feel were wrongfully dropped. I would like to see the following squad in the batting order for the remaining t20 games we have going into the WC.

1. Shan Masood ( has been performing great in domestic white ball)
2. M.Rizwan ( should be continued as one of the openers)
3. Babar ( should bat at no 3 in both white ball formats for me )
4. Malik ( Need experience and proven and still can serve in t20
5. Haris Sohail( Never knew why he was dropped as he did great in white ball and can accelerate when required, was great in WC 2019).
6. F.Ashraf( seaming all rounder who was developing until wrongfully dropped)
7. Shadab Khan
8. Mohammed Nawaz
9. M. Wasim Jr ( handy lower order batsmen as well )
10. Shaheen Afridi ( inshAllah hope he gets fit in time for WC)
11. Naseem Shah
12. Fakhar Zaman ( back up opener)
13. Haider Ali ( backup for middle order)
14. Shahnawaz Dhani
15. Rohail Nazir ( Need a backup keeper and he is a more than capable batsmen

This would be my ideal pool for the WC.

Malik and Haris Sohail are not suited for Australia.
In t20s, M. Haris is a better bet than Rohail.

If only he wasnt as toxic but Umar Akmal’s game is good against the short stuff. Need someone similarly skilled with the horizontal bat shots. Also need proper batsman who can actually rotate strike with some level of long form pedigree as well.

My t20 Squad.

1) Babar Azam
2) Mohammad Rizwan
3) Abdul Wahid Banglazai ( my x-factor pick)
4) Fakhar Zaman

5) Shan Masood
6) Iftikhar Ahmed
7) Haidar Ali
8) Asif Ali

9) Shadab Khan
10) Mohammad Nawaz

11) Shaheen
12) Mohammad Wasim JR
13) Naseem Shah
14) Haris Rauf
15) Dahani

For Opening game this would be my ideal starting 11

1) Fakhar Zaman
2) Babar Azam
3) Mohammad Rizwan
4) Shan Masood
5) Haidar Ali
6) Iftikhar Ahmed
7) Shadab or Nawaz
8) Rauf
9) Shaheen
10) Dahani
11) Naseem Shah

This is by far the most pathetic side someone has ever come up with.

I don't get the obsession of Pakistani fans with Shan Masood he failed so badly when he played for Pakistan in ODI's and only has handful of good knocks in test cricket. He is another domestic bully not suitable for international cricket in any format.

Malik & Haris that too in Australia. Malik can't even play medium pacers in UAE & you expect him to perform in Australia. And Haris haven't played since 2020 I believe & the reason he was dropped was his bad fitness, so no thanks.

Faheem Ashraf at 6 in a T20🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣. He's a very limited cricketer & test cricket is his only format.

Fakhar Zaman the only power hitter Pakistan has & he's not in your XI 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣.

My sincere question do you even watch cricket??

Abdul wahid bangalzai is not a t20. Plus he’s decent at best. Some of the young batter seem leagues above him.

Khan
Rizwan
Babar
Fakhar
Asif
Saud
Shadab
Shah
Shah
Wasim
Amad
Azam
Dahani
Qadir
Ashraf

Need to play saqball and start getting the big clubs out from ball one

I feel like people underrate him that is IMO, regardless, a surprise package in terms of batsman should be selected.

The team has the ability to match ODI worldcup 2015 performance.
Shan masood
Malik
Haris
Rohail

What ? Malik in Australia ? Rohail Nazir ? Harris sohail ??

Rohail was struggling to play run a ball in KPL, I am not sure what people see in him he his average at very best. Haris sohail is not a t20 player. Though he should be in odis without a doubt.

Looking forward to the next few months of cricket for PCT. T20 is definitely our strongest format as of now.

The only difference from the original Asia Cup squad I would have is Mohammad Haris for Usman Qadir.

In Australia you want four pacers and two spinners unlike Dubai where we play three and three. Since Shadab is an automatic pick, only one of Nawaz and Iftikhar needs to play in the XI. Nawaz and 4 quicks is too long a tail so Iftikhar plays ahead of him. This makes room for M Haris in the squad since Nawaz can be backup spinner instead of Qadir. I’d have Haider and Haris play as many games as possible before the WC to see which one can grab a spot in the middle order. Otherwise I think these are the best t20 players going in Pakistan and this squad should contend for the WC barring injuries.

Haris Sohail , really , :virat1 ??? Rohail Nazir and F Ashraf also don't deserve to be in T20 team .

Can't believe OP added Shoaib Malik.

He tends to do poorly in SENA countries. Also, he is now an old man and Pakistan have better options than him.

A nearly retried Shoaib Malik in Australia? Am I missing something? He must be doing good in big bash I am assuming.

I have been watching the game from the time you were probably in school and can’t even hold a bat buddy. Everyone is entitled to their own opinion and I have mines . Let me ask you this , yes some of these players hAve had poor records but if u use ur head properly and apply logic. You want to send a completely new untested side to Australia in a WC and fail miserably? At least the likes of Haris, Shan, Malik have international experience . For a tour of down under and in a World Cup I would rather go with more experience and few new comers or inexperienced players. World Cup is a tournament is a global tournament, it’s not where you test your bench strength. Yes we missed the chances and opportunities to test our bench, but at this point so close to the World Cup , you might as well go with your work horses with couple of domestic performers rather than a complete brand new 15 and crash out embarrassingly . Apply some logic fo your knowledge rather than just applying emotions brother. Stay blessed.

Need to wait for the management to say that we need a leg spinner because they are match winners and won the 92 world cup. Then it'll sound authentic, coming from the PCB.

In all formats Malik has played 20 matches in Australia with 3 half centuries & mighty average of 29. If we're only talking about limited overs then he has played 17 ODI's 2 half centuries & mighty average of 30. So I think I will pass this so-called senior player who haven't done anything for Pakistan cricket in his 20 years career.

Haris has played 8 matches in Australia with 0 fifty & an average of 15 wow impressive.

Do some research before posting & don't embarrass yourself by someone who started watching cricket in 04. Everyone is entitled to their opinion but your opinion quite frankly is laughable.

If Pak send the team you suggested then Pak will even loose to the likes of Bangladesh & other minnows as well

Truly, the mind boggles with people's mention of Malik & Haris Sohail inclusion.

I like this guy Aamer Jamal, but needs a lot work on his bowling
his hard hitting is amazing

Faheem and Aamer now are best we got in domestic, in games vs Asian countries, we will need it.

the domestic T20 was a good chance for Faheem to get some ligh back on himself but he got injured...

we do have a few off-spinning all-rounders but nothing on the seamers side...

Haider Ali,Kamran Ghulam and Shaan Masood should be given a chance to play against England. If they do well then they should be selected for T20 WC

The playing 11 with backup in the squad should be:

Rizwan

Babar
Shan/ Iftikhar
Haider/Khushdil
Asif
Shadab
Nawaz
Shaheen
Naseem
Haris / Hasnain / Dahani

Playing 11

Nawaz

Asif ali/ kushdil

Haris rauf

With the squad submission deadline coming up, I really think the selectors and team management should be brave and focus on our strengths. We have a fantastic pace battery, two good all-rounders and once they get their form back, a world-class top-order. Therefore, this is how they should line up in Australia:

1) Mohammad Rizwan (wk)
2) Babar Azam (c)
3) Fakhar Zaman/Shan Masood
4) Iftikhar Ahmed/Khushdil Shah
5) Mohammad Nawaz
6) Shadab Khab
7) Asif Ali
8) Haris Rauf
9) Shaheen Afridi
10) Naseem Shah
11) Mohammad Hasnain

12) Shoaib Malik (We need his experience)
13) Khushdil Shah/Iftikhar Ahmed
14) Shan Masood/Fakhar Zaman

So that is 14. Who should complete the squad?

Same team only Haider and Dhani will be dropped. Shahin and Wasim will be back.

Rizwan
Fakhar
Babar(c)
Iftikhar
Nawaz
Asif
Shadab
Rauf
Shaheen
Naseem
Hasnain

Haider Ali
Khushdil
Dahani

Ideally Hasan, Fakhar, Khusdil, Qadir and Ifti should be dropped but unfortunately they are to hard to be disposed due to powerful back up.

Basically 2 batsman and lots of places fillers. We have no middle order or any batsman

That is all you need in T20s. Tullay-baaz who can score quick 20s and 30s are gold. Babar and Rizwan, when in form, will guarantee us 70-80 runs in the first ten. After that, one of them needs to bat till the end while everyone else swings for the fences.

1.Babar
2.Rizwan
3.Shan Masood
4.Fakhar Zaman
5.Shoiab Malik
6.Imad Wasim
7.Shahdab
8. M Nawaz
9.Shaheen Shah Afridi
10.Naseem Shah
11.Haris Rauf
12.Shahnawaz Dhani
13.M Hasnain / M Waseem
14.Haider Ali

Shoaib malik in Australia? Sounds like a horror movie plot.

Really? And what if you are 20 for 2. Under pressure it's the good batsman that produce the sloggers fall to pieces. There needs to be a balance and ATM it's not right

Pakistan have a dilemma .

They have 5 batsman who are under performing.

1) Babar- Looks out of touch and this is probably the first real slump in his t20 career. But he is captain and he is to good for the bad form to last for a longer period of time .

2) fakhar- he has a 50 in this tournament which has probably kept him in the side . Needs to figure a way to tackle the spinners, however UAE is his Achilles heel and he has the pedigree and potential to deliver when it matters the most . Also fast pitches in Australia should suit his game .

Ifitkhar -
Has a couple of ok knocks . Not set the world alight and really had a chance to nail the spot, but in a way has flattered to deceive .

Khushdil-
Has struggled and last two innings had the opportunity to bat long and has failed to do so.

Asif Ali
He is the perennial finisher and therefore to expect consistency from him is optimistic, however he is one player who strikes fear into a team at the death . If he is coming with 4-5 overs left and he gets 18 of 8 then I suppose he has done his job , but does that warrant a place in the team .

In terms of the World Cup the squad is to be announced next week.

The good thing is Pakistan have 11 games before the World Cup .
7 against England and then the tri series in New Zealand .
Therefore players have a chance to gain form and confidence.

Out of those 5 batsman , Babar is not going anywhere. So therefore 2 out of 4 of Fakhar, khushdil, Asif and Ifti will be dropped .

I feel that Khushdil will be dropped and one of Fakhar/ ifti. Most likely Ifit.

Haider comes in and another batsman and they have 11 games to get the combination sorted .

After posting my squad for the T20WC this year. I will make a few changes.

1. Tayyab Tahir
2. Mohammad Rizwan (WK)
3. Shan Masood
4. Babar Azam (C)
5. Kamran Ghulam
6. Shadab Khan
7. Mohammad Nawaz
8. Shaheen Shah Afridi
9. Naseem Shah
10. Haris Rauf
11. Mohammad Hasnain

12. Fakhar Zaman
13. Imad Wasim
14. Mir Hamza
15. Mohammad Haris (WK)

Standby Players:

16. Usman Qadir
17. Mohammad Wasim Jnr.
18. Agha Ali Salman

I would take out Fakhar Zaman from the starting XI due to his poor form and needing a kick up the backside. Tayyab Tahir has been in some good touch, despite limited domestic T20 experience. Kamran Ghulam may not be everyone's favourite but he's worth a try and Agha Ali Salman as reserve player ahead of Ifti, Asif and Khushi. I do think breaking up the Babar-Rizwan opening combo is a must and the first 6 overs aka powerplay overs are going to be extremely essential, so going with someone more aggressive than the current combo like Tayyab Tahir.

The pace department is fine, brought in Mir Hamza due to him offering more as left hander than Hasan Ali. Whereas the spin department is atricious, I do like the look of Abrar Ahmad but needs time, so I went with Imad Wasim, who offers something different to the other spinners. Usman Qadir gets knocked down to the stand by, alongside Wasim Jnr and Mohammad Haris.

Going with Shadab Khan & Mohammad Nawaz at No.6-7 is worth a try considering they have showed more than previous big hitters.

So overall this is what I went with personally.

I think there won’t be many changes but one can always present their own final 15. Hopefully Shaheen is fully fit, Waseem might find it difficult to get back in as Hasnain and Naseem have been excellent and have Australian pitched exposure.

I am hoping RR has some influence and brings Imad and Amir into the side for the WC. I think if we fail to win the Asia cup it will be tight for Iftikhar, Kushdil or Asif Ali and Malik might be back in the side too. The media lobbying by his friends has been started way before the Asia cup so will have to see. One does feel MoYo has something to do with his selection at least with their past fall outs.

1 Babar
2 Rizwan
3 Fakhar
4 Masood
5 Malik
6 Nawaz
7 Shadab
8 Imad
9 Naseem
10 Haris
11 Shaheen
12 Hasnain
13 Dahani
14 Haider Ali
15 Kushdil

That’s my final 15

The Asia Cup has made it clear who needs to go. We need to figure out who completes the jigsaw quickly.

1) Babar
2) Rizwan
3) ?
4) ?
5) ?
6) Asif
7) Nawaz
8) Shadab
9) Rauf
10) Naseem
11) Shaheen

12) Hasnain
13) Dahani
14) ?
15) ?

Malik, Shan, Faheem, Haris, Maqsood and Imad seem to be the likely options. We quickly need some dependable middle-order batsmen.

Pak Squad for the T-20 WC -2022

I think this should be the squad for The T-20 WC in Australlia.
1. Babar
2. Rizwan
3. Fakhar
4. Haider
5. Shan Masood
6. Iftikhar
7. Shadab
08. Nawaz
09. Shaheen
10. Hasnain
11. Rauf
12. Dahani
13. Naseem
14. ? (A Finisher)
15. A? ( A middle order Batsman)

Replace Khushdil with Qasim Akram. Bring in Haider Ali.

1- We can't make wholesale changes just before World Cup.
These 2 players (mentioned in Title) upgrade our current side massively.

2- Babar isn't out of form. Rizwan's extra slow batting has a -ve influence on Babar.
&
Rizwan's leg-side dominant scoring zone wouldn't work on bouncy tracks of Aus in T20Is.
&
We can't have 2 anchors in Top3. Babar has higher ceiling of these two so Rizwan has to go. Haider can keep wickets or call in Rohail Nazir / Azam Khan.

This is a better XI for Tri Series in NZ & T20WC.
1- Babar
2- Haider
3- Fakhar
4- Iftikhar / Rohail (only if Haider can't keep)
5- Qasim Akram
6- Asif Ali
7- Shadab
8- Nawaz / Wasim Jnr
9- Naseem
10- Hasnain / Dahani / Shaheen
11- Haris Rauf

Wasim Jnr, if fit, would replace Nawaz in Aus.

If you are going to include Haider Ali then play him as an opener. Plz don't waste him in MO (otherwise leave him on bench). He is an opener. He opened in U-19 WC. He opens for Northern in FC cricket.

For wicketkeeper batter;
Haris looks like a hack.
Rohail Nazir has a FC 100 in NZ so I think he is a better choice than Azam Khan & Haris. Rohail also adds value to leadership group as he captained U-19 side in past.

What are your thoughts?

My final squad for England and world cup

Haider Ali
Fakhar
Asif Ali/Iftikhar
Shadab

Rohail Nazir is way to slow he has strike rate of less than 120.

We are probably going to need to play 4 seamers in Australia. Dahani imo is a must for Australia. I hope he isn't sidelined.
Hasnain can be dropped for now, good as he is.

1) Shan
2) Rizwan
3) Babar
4) Haider
5) Imad
6) Shadab
7) Asif
8) Nawaz

Tomorrow is the last date for Squad submission, isn't it?

If that is the case, I am not sure we will see wild changes like people think.

How big can the reserves be because I believe you are allowed to make changes until a certain point so those reserves listed may be important.

Yes, I don't think there will be any major changes except that Shaheen will be in for Hasan Ali and may be Mohammad Wasim in for Hasnain. Although Hasnain hasn't done badly at all.

As far as I know 15th Sep is the last date for Squad submission but then again this is the ICC, so I don't expect much professionalism from them and deadlines may easily get extended.
There are as many as 9 teams that are yet to announce their Squads!

PCB is sure taking their sweet time in announcing the squad.

PCB is always the last one and usually on the deadline date to announce whatever world tournament squad. I hope PK are eliminated after the first round so we can see much needed changes

Babar
Sharjeel
Haider
Rizwan
Umar akmal
Shadab
Nawaz
Shaheen
Rauf
Naseem
Dahani

12-15:
Shan Masood
Mohammed wasim jr
Asif Ali

Openers

Babar
Rizwan
Shan Masood
Haider Ali
Ifthikar Ahmed/ Umar Amin / Haris Sohail / Agha Salman any 2 out of these four
Hassan Nawaz ( x-factor pick)

Sarfraz Ahmed - as a backup wk and also the best bet to play in the middle order , he his having a very good National T-20 ..Reason that Haris is not picked is the same yardstick, looks to have poor tourney so far and also in the middle order he sucks

Nawaz
Shadab
Shaheen
Haris rauf
Naseem
Dahani
Wasim jnr

It’s like it has to be approved by 10 different government departments before it’s officially announced

Lol that’s probably true. Everyone just finding a way to keep Hasan Ali in the squad.

Sarfaraz will be a very valuable addition to Pakistan's middle order, his experience will come in handy. Salman Agha looked good in that last ODI series, I think he cannot do worse that the current middle order.

Salman agha is averaging around 7 I believe in the current national t20. He’s not good enough.

1) Babar

4) Haider Ali
5) Shadab
6) Nawaz
7) Azam Khan
8) Imad Wasim
9) Shaheen
10) Harris Rauf
11) Naseem Shah

i want to put asif ali in tht num 8 but i have no trust in him... Imad wasim is 10times better than him and gives a much finer bowling option as well

Dahani, M Harris, Abd Shafiq, Shaoib Maqsood , M Wasim (mayb) could make the rest of the XI

I do find it odd a squad has to declared with over a month to go and around the world, teams have upcoming series that will determine their final squads.

Nonetheless, here is the squad I think Pakistan will go with.

Sharjeel
Rizwan
Babar
Haider
Fakhar
Asif
Nawaz
Shadab
Wasim
Rauf
Naseem
Shaheen
Iftikhar
Dahani
Khushdil

Reserves: Hasnain/Qadir/Azam or Sarfraz.

I don't see a reason to name another spinner in the squad with how poor their spin options are. If a spinner does get injured, Pakistan will likely just end up going with 4 seamers anyways. I don't see a drastic change coming.

Fakhar
Rizwan
Babar
Haider or Iftikhar
Shaan
Asif
Nawaz or Shadab
Haris
Shaheen
Naseem or Wasim jr
Dahani or Hasnain

As long as both Khushdil and Iftikhar are dropped and neither of the oldies Malik or Sarfaraz are brought back in I will be happy

Just hope they don't give in to the media pressure and select Malik...that would be a tragedy.

Khushdil, Iftikhar need to go...Haider and Kamran Ghulam need to come in.

Could try Shan Masood in place of Fakhar in Eng series.

I'll still stick with Asif as he's still the best six-hitter in the country and he has played a few crucial cameos in last 12 months and there's no one else who has that 6- hitting ability.

Shaheen/Rauf/Naseem/Dahani/Hasnain should be the fast bowlers.

Backup spinner Qadir hasn't been impressive....perhaps Imad could be brought in his place.
