We've always lacked in T20 batting firepower.

To have a shot at World T20, which seems unlikely with the current available options, my line-up for posting 200 totals would be:

1. Sharjeel Khan
2. Umar Akmal/Haidar
3. Babar
4. Hafeez
5. Husain Talat
6. Iftikhar

Some of them may not be world beaters. But this is the best we can assemble in my opinion from Pak players.

Sure, Umar is banned now, but he can easily take pace bowling apart. So it's just a wishlist.

Focus has to be players that can hit pace bowlers with ease and timing.

Yet it were the slower balls that were our undoing in the last series. It's t20, pace bowlers rely more on variety than just pace. Our batsmen need to be able to handle whatever is thrown their way not just pace

Umar Akmal, seriously!!!

What's wrong with that?

I'm talking about pure abilities to strike the ball well . Soecially against the pacers and on good/bouncy tracks.

You think Umar is inferior to the likes of Khushdil and Shafique?

Anyway, as he's banned, he can't play.

If someone can time the ball well and hit it on merit, slower balls won't trouble him.

It's about not pre meditating your shots.

Current Pakistan team can post 200 total only against minnows like Afg, Zim and SL (On flat tracks).
As OP mentioned lack of T20 batting firepower.

Sharjeel
Babar
Haider
Hafeez
Iftikhar
Azam

Powerhitting all the way through except Babar who's more of a dynamic accumulator. Obviously Sharjeel and Azam selections are fitness dependent.

Sharjeel, Azam and Iftikhar? That would be an interestingly fit squad.

Dear god. They all suck. Babar can't go beats mode in T20 either. He lacks the power game.
But Sheesh. The names I see in Pakistans T20 lineup is shocking

Odi though Pakistan have a better team.

No need for all these wishlists. I’ll give you a realistic lineup:

1. Babar Azam
2. Haider Ali
3. Mohammad Hafeez
4. Iftikhar Ahmed
5. Azam Khan (wk)
6. Hussain Talat
7. Shadab Khan
8. Imad Wasim
9. Hassan Ali / Faheem Ashraf
10. Shaheen Afridi
11. Haris Rauf

This team can post 200+ scores against any bowling lineup in the world, though not consistently. It will consistently hit 170+.

Any team with Sharjeel, Fakhar is expecting to consistently be one down in the second over.

Top 6

Sharjeel Khan
Babar Azam
Haidar Ali
Mohammad Hafeez
Umar Akmal (wk)
Ifthikar Ahmed
—————————
2 All rounders

Faheem Ashraf
Shadab Khan (c)
—————————

If these group of players can’t get you 200 then no one can.

Completely agree but what if azam khan turns out to be a dud like kushdil shah. He neees to be given atleast two series before the world cup. And also usman qadir needs to be rotated with shadab just to see whos better.

Azam Khan might turn out to be a dud, but he can at least score all around the ground whether on off, leg, or straight down. Khushdil is so one-dimensional that he was worked out to be a legside player in his first proper series ever.

Azam might be weak against the short ball, or can’t hold up against inswing, who knows. But from what I’ve seen, he has a lot more time to play his shots and has yet to show any serious issues at the crease.

More importantly, Azam isn’t competing with Khushdil for a spot (in which case I would do a more detailed comparison). He is competing with Rizwan, Sarfaraz, and Rohail Nazir for a spot and he’s the only one who can play at a high strike rate from the get go, which is needed since we already have Babar and Hafeez as anchors.

As far as Usman Qadir goes, no need to give him a go if we know what the result will be. Everyone who has watched him knows that he is deceptive and expensive, at the same time. Unfortunately, expensive doesn’t go in T20 cricket - he bowls 3 excellent balls and 3 hit-me balls per over. He also offers less with the bat than Shadab, which we want if we want a 200+ total.

Interesting to see you two selecting Azam Khan.

That hadn't crossed my mind.

He definitely has that natural ability to hit it big. Times the ball well. But, not sure how soon he'll be worked out against any half-decent opposition.

But still, definitely a much better option than Rizwan.

Any day Azam Khan over Rizwan in T20s.

Abdullah Shafique
Mohammad Rizwan
Imam ul Haq
Fawad Alam
Shadab Khan
Khushdil Shah
Faheem Ashraf
Imad Wasim
Wahab Riaz

Rizwan and Babar at the top. Rizwan the aggressor as you know very well as his long term fan like me, and Babar as anchor.

Rest of the members pick themselves tbh. Imad as a floater type batsman.

So if he's banned why did you put his name down?

Sorry I forgot he's one of your favourites.

Too many oldies and fatties your top 6.

Any youtube links to watch Hussain Talat top innings? I haven't seen him play only fielding so far.

This one is actually good. Though, I will replace Iftikhar with Zeeshan Malik.

B Azam *
S Khan
H Ali
M Hafeez
A Khan +
H Talat
I Ahmed
I Wasim
F Ashraf
W Riaz
S Afridi

F Ashraf at 9 and W Riaz at 10 is quite a depth. And no accumulator apart from Babar and Hafeez to continue the role if Babar falls early as he’s experienced

S Afridi, I Wasim, F Ashraf and W Riaz are your 4 bowlers

I Ahmed, M Hafeez and Hussain Talat to bowl the remaining together

He is another Khushdil who is needlessly hyped at PP. Not good enough for International level.

Talat is not like khushdil lol. Khushdil is a complete leg side domestic hack.

Husain isn't a top striker of the ball but at least tries to play the ball on merit. We have no better alternatives.

As Rizwan is now turning into a beast, time for Babar Azam to move down the order.

Rizwan/Babar opening combo will never take advantage of power plays, as such we will never score 200 in a T20 game.

Rizwan
Azam K
Haider
Babar
Hafeez
Talat
Imad
Shadab
Hassan
Qadir
Shaheen

Who is your keeper? Having azam as keeper would be unfair to Rizwan who is the best keeper we have had for two decades and if we go with the latter, we would need to hide azam somewhere in the field. Sharjeel may be a better bet given that he can clear the field just as easily, plus he gives a left hand option in the top order. Overall a very decent squad, which should atleast get 180+ on most occasions. I would just add the following in the mix:

Rizwan
Sharjeel
Babar
Haider
Hafeez
Talat/ chacha ifti (I want him to bowl more)
Imad
Shadab
Hassan
Qadir
Shaheen/ hasnain

your going to move babar does due to rizwan having a couple good performances ? Mad

Really like this team. But not sure about best position for Babar. 4 is too late for him.

It’s true, maybe three - just look at Azam Khan, he’s a big lad, hopefully he’ll get more conditioned but just probably needs to open and hit boundaries. Could probably open with Babar, he does pierce the field better than anyone, while not being able to hit out the same.

Babar
Azam K
Haider
Rizwan

Rizwan is experienced with the tail, so later could make sense.

True, Rizwan is brilliant keeper probably too good to remove due to his glovemanship, though he’d make a gun circle fielder and then allow Azam to keep but you do take a risk with that.

Azam must be a decent in-fielder/slip given he’s a wickie, more when the field is spread out and he needs to chase things down. He has time to get his conditioning right though.

Agreed on Sharjeel and left hand but I don’t see his fitness coming on as Azam’s will, and given his age...same with Ifti and age. Hafeez could be 4th spinner if it came to it.

If Sharjeel is in shape, then he could be considered, makes hay on the leg side - though he could get found out.
