So after the hammering at The Gabba, who should be left out and who should be brought in?

Haris strughling
Iftikhar low scores
Is Naseem ready and fit for Test cricket?
Should Abbas replace Imran?
Should Imam be selected?

Azhar Ali (c), Shan Masood, Imam-ul-haq, Asad Shafiq, Abid Ali, Babar Azam, Mohammad Rizwan (wk), Yasir Shah, Shaheen Afridi, Naseem Shah, Mohammad Abbas

We will have to reshuffle a little bit our batting line up with Haris Sohail struggling at 3.
Iftikhar Ahmed is clearly of no use at al' in the team. So I will replace him with another opener and give back the number 3 to Azhar Ali. Not that this is ideal but the best we can do with the selected squad.

Obviously, don't want to see Imran Khan in Pakistan colors again.

So my XI will be:
1. Shan Masood
2. Imam ul Haq
3. Azhar Ali
4. Babar Azam
5. Asad Shafiq
6. Haris Sohail
7. Mohammad Rizwan
8. Yasir Shah
9. Shaheen Shah Afridi
10. Mohammad Abbas
11. Naseem Shah

If the pitch is really green then we can even go with four pacers by playing Musa Khan over Yasir Shah.

Azhar Ali (c), Shan Masood, Imam-ul-haq, Asad Shafiq, Abid Ali, Babar Azam, Mohammad Rizwan (wk), Yasir Shah, Shaheen Afridi, Naseem Shah, Mohammad Abbas

All the talk is about playing Babar at 4 and 5 is a little too late and you want him at 6 in the next match?

Also playing 2 openers in the middle order?

01. Imam ul haq
02. Shan Masood
03. Azhar Ali (c)
04. Babar Azam
05. Asad Shafique
06. Mohammad Rizwan (wk)
07. Kashif Bhatti/Iftikhar Ahmed
08. Yasir Shah
09. Shaheen Shah Afridi
10. Naseem shah
11. Mohammad Abbas

Strong batting and Maximum chances of taking 20 wickets

Batting over is a shambles and we have no back up extra middle order player.

Ifti, Azhar, sohail all need to be dropped but only back ups are imam and Abid. Which means if both picked we have to many openers in the team.

Imam for Haris, Musa for ifti, Abbas for Imran, it will be a gamble but for low scoring game I think it would worth it.

No choice but play Abid a proper batsman,

Sorry mistake, would play abid after babar

The changes Misbah will make will be , Imam for Haris, Abbas in for one of other seamers . Maybe Babar will bat at 4 and Asad at 5.

1. Imam
2. Azhar
3. Masood
4. Babar
5. Shafiq
6. Abid Ali / Iftikhar Ahmed / Haris
7. Rizwan
8. Kashif Bhatti / Yasir Shah
9. Shaheen
10. Naseem
11. Abbas

Haris will be dropped, probably for Imam. As usual, a reactionary move. He should not have played the first test based on every innings he's played so far in Australia. Playing him was based on hope rather than any careful analysis.

For the rest of the 11, I'm sure Abbas will be back but the question is who will he replace? Will they drop Imran Khan for a match where assistance for bowlers like him is expected? Or will they drop Yasir or Iftikhar?

I think the tail would be too long to play 4 seamers plus Yasir, and Yasir batted well in the first test . So they'll probably drop Imran for Abbas. Maybe they will bring in another batsman for Iftikhar.

Shan, Azhar, Imam, Babar, Shafiq, Rizwan, Iftikhar/Abid, Yasir, Shaheen, Naseem, Abbas

That seems the best 11 we can hope for to be honest

Shan
Azhar
Babar
Asad
Abid
Iftikhar / Haris
Rizwan
Musa
Naseem
Shaheen
Abbas

go with 4 fast bowlers plus one spinner and Azhar ali

Azhar Ali (c), Shan Masood, Imam-ul-haq, Asad Shafiq, Abid Ali, Babar Azam, Mohammad Rizwan (wk), Yasir Shah, Shaheen Afridi, Naseem Shah, Mohammad Abbas

This^^^ team with one change and few batting order swaps:

Shan Masood, Imam-ul-haq, Azhar Ali (c), Abid Ali, Babar Azam, Asad Shafiq, Mohammad Rizwan (wk), Kashif Bhatti, Shaheen Afridi, Naseem Shah, Mohammad Abbas

Unless we are ready for another 200+ retrun for Yasir, I suggest we not play him despite some runs he scored, he is a bowler and not a batsman or an all rounder...if it takes him 150-200 runs at over 4 an over to get 2-3 wickets every innings, I would rather not play him here as well as not again until he drops the absurd big tidh look!

Imam
Shan
Azhar
Babar
Asad
Rizwan
Iftikhar
Yasir
Shaheen
Naseem
Musa

We are going to lose, I might as well put the 3 u19s in and show the world that we are not afraid to try

agree, I don't see Misbah dropping 'seniors' Iftikhar or IK after 1 test.

Haris and Naseem probably miss out for Imam and Abbas

Best Pakistan XI for Second Test. Thoughts?

I think we need wholesale changes.

We are a poor team but even with that we had terrible selection of the Eleven.

For the Second test my eleven is:

1. Imam
2. Masood
3. Azhar
4. Babar
5. Shafiq
6. Ifitkhar
7. Rizwan
8. Yasir
9. Shaheen Shah
10. Abbas
11. Naseem Shah

I think playing both Haris and Iftikhar is a poor decision and we need to go with one. Personally think Haris is the better batsman no doubt but he is very out of form for a while. Iftikhar seems to have some form from the T20s so maybe give him a run here and see where his peak is. People will argue that Haris gives bowling option and took two wickets but if we are requiring Haris to be a wicket taking option, its safe to say the game is already gone out of hand so imo it does not help.

So for form reasons and testing mettle I will pick Iftikhar for this one-off but understand if someone goes with Harris. Definitely playing both is wasting a spot. #6 would be the position.

For openers, Imam and Shan; I dont expect either to make huge scores but I think both have grit to get 30s and 40s which would be an improvement in Australia.

Azhar has considerable experience at #3 and I think has one good innings.

Babar I would want at #4 so that he has time to build an innings and not have to play with the tail always. And if he fires that sets a good base for #6 and Rizwan.

Bowling is tricky. Abbas needs to come just for his pedigree rather than form. Shaheen bowled well and definitely needs to play. Nasim Shah was not convincing but I think we need pace. Otherwise Imran Khan jr did well under lights but I just dont think we can afford two 125k-130k bowlers and Abbas is the better option.

Yasir has to play for his heart with batting and long spells.

I think as a unit this can be much more competitive.

Haris is horribly out of form from last 2-3 months, I was amazed to see his name in playing XI ahead of Imam for first test. Imran should never have preferred upon our most experienced & accurate bowler Abbas. Iftikhar fared badly at the Gabba but I am inclined to give him another shot instead of Kashif Bhatti. Babar & Shafiq should swap their places.

1. Imam
2. Azhar
3. Shan
4. Babar
5. Shafiq
6. Rizwan
7. Iftikhar
8. Yasir
9. Shaheen
10. Abbas
11. Naseem
