Brisk start by Zimbabwe in the Tri-Series game as they reach 16/0 (2.1/50 ov) after being put into bat by Sri Lanka.

Can't tell is ZIM has improved lot or SRL has come to this level, but the SRL-ZIM contest these days are getting too close to comfort.

Sri Lanka must be a really bad team for Zimbabwe to score 290. By seeing Zimbabwe vs Bangladesh match, I can tell trophy should be hand over to Bangladesh. There is no huge difference of quality between these teams

Thisara Perera keeping the game alive.

SL 218-6 (39) need 73 more runs from 11 overs.

Zimbabwe don't choke

These guys are kings of throwing away advantageous positions.

Chatara is such an upgrade on Mpofu, showing Zimbabwe what they were missing while he was injured.

Zimbabwe win by 12 runs.

Nice to have a close ODI for a change.

What a match. SL is truly a minnow now a days.. Bangladesh will walk away with the trophy

True ranking of the teams.

1.AUS, SA
3.IND, ENG
5.NZ
6.BAN, PAK
8.WI
9.ZIM/ SL
10.AFG.

Sri Lanka is an unofficial minnow now.

In 5 years time I can see Afghanistan beating them left, right and center.

Already Afghanistan u 19 is running havoc.

Doesn’t the ranking also reflects almost same? Test rankings is a bit misleading as it doesn’t consider H&A factor (which is massive in Test, little in ODI, nothing in T20) and it’s based on Test count, not Series basis (therefore teams playing more Test at home should account for more points); but ODI ranking actually reflects the true position. Probably, by end of Jan, we’ll exchange position with PAK as well.

Tbh I didn't notice the rankings. Lol

It's not about whether you'll exchange the rankings with Pak.

I gave the rankings based on their capabilities

What a game of cricket. Saw the last 5-10 overs on a stream and was exciting finish. Shame that not much crowd but not unexpected as Bangladesh weren't playing. I think Bangladesh v Sri Lanka should attract bigger crowds as that match is on a Friday and SL are a bigger team. Also, little bit of Asian rivalry.

This series is pointless. We are so much better than Zimbabwe and Lanka. We need to be playing amongst Eng, India and Australia in a tri-series (or quad series). I will be disappointed if we drop a single game here.

It's not pointless bro. I quote it from Ponting (or Steve Waugh, can't recall now) - once he was asked if winning was boring (probably during their run of 16 consecutive Test wins and probably 45 wins out of 50 in ODI) - he said that we compete within ourselves. We set higher targets for us to reach - it's not about just winning. We can't choose opponents, but we indeed can choose the way we want to play.

This game is such that in Final ZIM or SRL can surprise us on their day, but over all the gap is too wide, HENCE, I don't look for W/L - I am looking for the domination, how are we playing. We have to crash weaker teams like the way we were few years back. I was impressed with last game - 8 wickets & within 29 overs - batsmen played like they were chasing 343, not 170. That's what you need - that ruthless mentality. Sakib could have easily tried to play for a nice unbeaten 50, still we would have won inside 29 overs, but I hate that safety first, selfish PAK game to creep into our system - result is just an out come of the day; won't mind losing to ZIM on a given day, as long as players play the game, the way it should be.

PAK beat this SRL side 5-0, and I'll bet my house, they would have lost at least 1 ODI had Azhar or Misbah been Captain (it happened actually), because of that compromise mentality from top.

Its probably like this in ODIs:

1) AUS, SA, ENG
4) IND
5) NZ, PAK, BD
8) WI
9) AFG, SL, ZIM, IRE

Have to agree with MMHS. We have often chased 170 against ZIM losing just 1 or 2 wickets, but did it in 40 overs. It was refreshing to see us chase it down in under 30. In a world cup you will need that NRR boost.

We should look to win by 100 runs or 7-8 wickets with 15 overs to spare in every game in this tri series. Obviously that won't happen every time because we arent Australia and ZIM and SL are still full member sides. ZIM in particular getting Taylor and Jarvis back have increased in quality as well as mentality. Its a big confidence boost to have your best batsman and best bowler come back. They aren't associate level anymore.

Rebuilding a team involves pain and tears. The Sri Lankan selectors need to stick to one captain, a core group of 15-16 players whom they feel are the best available in the country, give them decent chances but avoid the chopping and changing. When you are rebuilding a team, you have to tolerate humiliation before you see the good times again.
