Has Lalchand Rajput come into the middle of India-Pakistan diplomatic crossfire? It may or may not be so, but what is clear though is that the former India batsman, who is currently the coach of the Zimbabwe national team, has not accompanied the team to Pakistan. The Zimbabwe team landed in Islamabad earlier on Tuesday morning and Rajput, also a former Team India coach, was not in the mix.

There are different versions to his absence, one being that he has been denied visa by the Pakistan High Commission in Harare, where he had gone. The other view is that he has been advised against travelling to Pakistan by the Indian High Commission in Harare. Mirror had recently reported about Rajput not getting the Pakistan visa by Friday.

Neither version could be immediately confirmed but it was clear that some diplomatic issues are work on this.

A Pakistan Cricket Board spokesman said PCB extended all possible travel assistance for the Zimbabwe contingent. “As far as the PCB is concerned, and as part of normal services, the PCB provided full cooperation and support to the ZC, including arranging clearances certificates to all the squad members and following up with requests to the Pakistan Mission in Harare for visas,” the PCB spokesman told this paper yesterday. Later PCB chief Ehsan Mani claimed that Rajput was in fact issued a visa.

Rajput could not be reached immediately and the Mumbai Cricket Association (MCA) has no information on this. He is the head of MCA’s Cricket Improvement Committee.

Zimbabwe is to play three ODIs and as many Twenty20 Internationals in Pakistan, which had been largely avoided by international sides because of security concerns till recently. Of late, however, the PCB has been making efforts to project to the cricket world that the country is safe for international cricket and has managed to host countries like Sri Lanka and Zimbabwe. It has also hosted the Pakistan Super League, with the participation of many foreigners, earlier this year.

He had to pull out otherwise would have been called an anti national element and would have been booked under sedition charges or even lynched by the 56 inch chest guy and his lovers
Wise move by rajput

What a petty thing do. I don't expect Indians to support this

Surely this is enough evidence to kick India out of the ICC the way they are trying to kick South Africa out?

If he was comfortable touring Pakistan, then I think this was really unnecessary.

But I guess the deterioration in relations in the past couple of years doesn't help much.

Praying, hoping for the day to wake up and read something wholesome for once. Something where India, BCCI, it’s cricketers and analysts show even the slightest respect to Pakistan like they used to before 2009. We don’t deserve this dehumanisation

My commiserations to people of India. Pettiness 101.

Pakistan team should not take part in any ICC events held in India. The safety of players and staff will be at great risk. The cricket is not bigger than life and besides cricket is no where near football World Cup in terms of prestige.

No. The reality where the probability of pigs flying with golden wings is higher thanks that of India getting "kicked out" from the ICC.

Are you proud of this? Cricket is a corrupt sport because India are in power?

What exactly constitutes as government interference in ICC rule of law?

Why doesn’t India remove its ambassadors from Pakistan if they are so fearful?

Let's see what happens come the 2023 World Cup.

This government has completely lost the plot since the UP Elections of March 2017. Not that they were too flash before that.

Who exactly are the ICC accountable to if they are to be dissolved or reprimanded?

Are you proud of this? Cricket is a corrupt sport because India are in power?

No reason to be proud. I'm just being realistic.

No matter how much people whine about "cricket~corrupt ~India~ power~bla" , reality will not change.

Growing up the consensus was always Pakistan are the ones causing the problems and leading to the issues amongst the countries. However in the last few years thanks to the Modi regime its clear india are actually the childish ones in all of this. Let them carry on with their political meddling the international community will soon wise up to it until then india can bully their way to the head of the table.

The issue is far worse now.

The silence of the International community, ICC and sports bodies is deafening.

Pakistan is truly isolated. We are on our own.

Why should we worry who Zimbabwe have as coach?

If anything, Zimbabwe should fire Rajput unless this was specifically mentioned in his contract.

Pakistan should do a quid pro quo and boycott next t20 world cup and 2023 odi wc as well.
i don't think it will be safe and good environment for pakistani players to focus on cricket. it will be terrible to tour in such a situation.

Seems unlikely that he would have applied for a visa if he was not comfortable touring.

Bro it’s not about who they have as coach. They can have Steve Waugh as coach and they will still lose all games against Pakistan away.

The issue is the precedent that is being set here. Recently, India were awarded equal points to Pakistan for not getting government clearance to play the women’s team. It’s just a highly depressing situation.

This isn’t fair on genuine cricket fans of Pakistan. We have done nothing to cause war and terror on these countries, why is our team/country being so casually dehumanised?

I agree. There is nothing to gain from this now. Enough is enough.

Cutting off our nose to spite our face.

Look, the realistic path to this is very long term. We have to get our own house in order, make the PCB self sustainable (which it definitely has the potential to be, even without India series), and keep lobbying in ICC committees and strengthen relationships with other boards. Mani and WK are both on numerous important committees in the ICC now, which suggests that their expertise is respected there and they are gaining influence.

ICC will never kick out India, but they would never kick out Pakistan either. Our small goal will be to put fines, sanctions on India in the very long term if they continue to act in this petty way. But basically, for now, let’s just focus on getting our own house in order and building relationships with other boards. Get cricket back to Pakistan, upgrade stadia, invest in grassroots, look after new domestic structure. Plenty to do. Don’t worry about India for now.

Actually, the way India is behaving in cricket as well as in politics will have a longterm effect. Yes, people care about money, but FDI in India has been declining (long before COVID) because of their nationalist politics. So these things do have a long term effect on international relations, FDI. India will be fine, of course, but this is the only way to go forward.

Let the world see India for what it is today and Pakistan will look better, safer, more welcoming. This will be good, in the long term, for FDI, for tourism, and most relevantly, for the amount and quality of cricket we get to play.

spot on, times are changing real chance for Pakistan to show some maturity and focus on our own growth. Like someone else mentioned aswel, the aim should be to go and aim to win the trophey in india, not play childish politics and boycott as a *** for tat.

Lalchand Rajput pulled out, since govt of India guidelines advises against travelling to pakistan.

Every country issues travel advisory for its citizens. So does India.

Many cricketers have pulled out of pakistan tours, its nothing new.

What is the point of having him as coach if he can't go on a tour like this where his team can learn a lot.

Zimbabwe don't get to play much cricket and this time when they do, their coach won't be there to help them.

No, he just woke up on a good morning and came to know this,,, These Indians and their twisting the narrative skills are on whole new level, on topic i think as poster above mentioned we should just bring our on house in order and everything will fall in place in due time, for now India is the necessary evil.

BJP walay doing rounds on this thread stating the obvious, "the embassy of India advice to pull out of the series", yes! it was mentioned in the article, we all read it but why did the government of India advised? of course out of pettiness and it make them appear stronger, bhayia. lol.

Embarrassing for non BJP walay

Why did 5 coaches of the BD team pull out?

Why have so many players pulled out of a pakistan tour?

All due to pettiness i guess.

So the coach pulled out himself or the Indian High commission made him pull out?

Did the South African, Bangladeshi high commission force the coaches and players to pull out in the past?

The Indian high commission issued a travel advisory as all countries do. Or are you saying that South African govt recommends traveling to Pakistan?

Good riddance now there will be trouble free game......no need of arrogant ppl

Even after BD govt allowed the tour, players pulled out.

How many players and coaches pulled out when SL toured?

Same old stuff, some will critisize, others will defend it.

In the end he has pulled out, his loss in my opinion, forget this and move on.

Make up your mind, Bangladesh coach pulled out because they had given option, This Indian coach pulled out because the government of India made him to and if I were him, considering the atmosphere in India regarding Pakistan and Muslims then I'd to, no one wants to lose their bread and butter by going against the majority or the psuedo-secularist government of India.

Let those who don't want to come don't come....tour will go on..... seriously don't expect few Saffas to postpone too...also morgan n few english...
But future generation of Banton Livingstone have came and willing 2 come.......Watto too played in Pak after skipping initial PSLs..... So more the teams tours pak the more players and teams will come

Govt gave a advisory. He was free to neglect the advisory and still go. He didn't.

“The embassy of India in Harare asked that he be exempted to tour.”

Where exactly is the word “Advised”?

Govt of India didnt specifically made Rajput to pull out of Pak tour but its accordance to travel guidelines stipulated by GOI. Maybe you were living under a rock but India-Pakistan are not friendly countries and govts have placed certain restrictions. Would you take responsibilty of Rajput if anything wrong happens?

You can keep on blaming Indian govt and criticize political atmosphere etc. but the fact is every cricket team around the world lined up to play here. The same teams/players think twice before touring Pakistan.

Enjoy Zimbabwe tour and dont worry much about India's govt. Leave that to us Indians.

He was free to neglect his Embassy asking Zimbabwe Embassy to not allow him to travel?

Zimbabwe will be without their head coach Lalchand Rajput for the upcoming tour of Pakistan after he pulled out over travel restrictions. A statement from Zimbabwe Cricket said that the Indian embassy in Harare had sought exemption for Rajput visiting Pakistan, citing travel guidelines issued by the Government of India for its citizens.

https://www.google.co.in/amp/s/www....chand-rajput-pulls-pakistan-tour?platform=amp

As you see, these were guidelines.

Rajput could have ignored them.

Do you guys remember how Sidhu was treated in India after he visited Pakistan? This guy probably didn't want a similar treatment and that makes perfect sense.

The truth is, Rajput would have been taken care of like a king in Pakistan. Pakistanis are very well known for their hospitality and love for their guests. They would have taken then opportunity of making this Indian gentleman feel like one of their own, treated him with love and most likely would have shown the world that they are a country that loves peace and friendship.

BJP couldn’t allow this to happen. It’s as simple as that. Na rahe ga bans, Na baje gy bansuri

Bjp also stopped players from around the world from going to pakistan.

His loss but I can understand why he pulled out. You don't want to get into trouble and mess with blind bhakhts.

However if it was his own decision and he was not sure about the security then he should have asked PM Modi who himself visited Pakistan. Anyway Pakistanis are better when it comes to mehman nawazi these days. :inti

Can't be 100% sure but I have a feeling this is the reason why he made his decision. Seeing how things have been going in India lately, him visiting Pakistan could have put him or his family in danger.

Pakistani are, we will even teach Modi about the concept of clouds and radars for free.

Imagine if the lower-level officers weren't scared to correct his highness of India, could have saved many trees.

3 players 4rm 3 generations .....have visited Pak.....B** is not the world the world is not B** ...

5 Bangladesh coaches, Mushfiqur, a number of Lankan players pulled out of the pakistan tour.

He wants to stay away from controversy and doesn't want anchors like Arnab shouting 'kahan hai rajput, kahan chupa hua hai'? :inti

Players Coaches Officials wont go to any country they dont want to go to.

Accept it and move on.

Those players and coaches were very clear they did not want to travel from the start, zim most likely would have hired another temp head coach had they known. This episode looks like he is worried for his families safety in india not his safety when he goes to Pakistan. But agreed, accept it and move on, the series will still go ahead, cricket will still be played.

They pulled out because of personal and/or family preferences or because of last-minute Embassy aDvIcE?

Thankfully most Indians supporters I've seen on social media are calling a spade a spade instead of engaging in mental gymnastics :inti

I think you should stay grounded for once especially when the whole season of IPL is being played in a foreign country. We don't even know when will we host our next series in India and here you are making fun of others. :inti
