Most Indian Muslims are patriotic and they should be. Just that the majority expect them to bend over backwards to prove their Indianess by hating Pakistan. If a Hindu admires a Pak celebrity it is acceptable but if their Muslim does it is seen as unpatriotic. Islam can not be reformed, like it or leave it.

I've made a few detailed posts on how or why Kerala hindus have consumed beef for over centuries in the relevant threads.

As I said before , our state our rules. We aren't demanding that beef be legalized all over India. If certain states have culturally & historically been against it the they have every right to keep the ban.

I agree that the protest went over the top and the Congress guys were too reckless (they have been suspended and cases are registered against them ), but when this whole "land of rakshasas" and "mini pakistan" narrative is so brazenly projected even on Mainstream media, you are pushing our people as well to oppose the centre's policies even further.

And [MENTION=133135]kaayal[/MENTION] is right! Vast majority of Kerala hindus support the right to eat meat, which includes beef. The problem is that unlike most of north or even the some south states, the beef eaters (read Lower caste hindus) are far too politically organised to just take Brahmanism laying down.


Even if the government has clean meat and animal safety concerns in mind (their intentions are highly questionable), cutting off the entire informal meat market, (in a state where almost 80% of all meat is produced in the informal sector), without properly suggesting any alternatives, is sheer stupidity.

The article by Naseeruddin shah is absolutely perfect and sums it up nicely..

However from a common man's perspective living in Delhi I don't see any discrimination against Muslims in day to day life.. I go to old Delhi to eat good food and Hindus and Muslims there live in perfect harmony.. Problem is with the rise of BJP (not just winning but the way in which they are winning) and decimation of a worthy opposition the hindutva agenda is slowly creeping up in smaller towns and cities where so called thugs who could not achieve anything academically are going into politics or fringe parties to form religion based groups..

This is a very bad direction our nation is going into and right now we are stuck as a country where some are liberal some are religious and others are hate mongers.. BJP has been successful in pitching itself as a development party amongst the masses and with no proper opposition at national level they are bound to get the second term and maybe even 3rd.. However apart from development they are pushing religion based agendas which can be really destructive in the future.. I don't know what to say the next 10 years would be really crucial for our nation hopefully we can go in the right track..
