“Do you think I have so much time that I will call M. Wasim to pick certain players?" : Wasim Akram

Wasim Akram speaking today:

“Do you think I have so much time that I will call and tell Mohammad Wasim to pick certain players? I don’t have time man. I am not involved with Pakistan team or Pakistan Cricket Board, so I have nothing to do with it. If I have so much influence, then I would say well done to me!"

“It is difficult to improve your fitness while staying in a bubble all the time. Sharjeel Khan is match winner and have all the skills required. At international level, if you look the part, you get the part. He will have to improve his fitness and he promised me during PSL that once he returns from South Africa, he will work on it during the two months gap"

“Mohammad Wasim is the right man for the job. He has been coaching for the past three or four years and he is aware of everything going on in domestic cricket. There can be difference of opinion between Captain and chief selector, but that is normal and healthy"

Why does he need to work on it after the tour of South Africa?

Why not work on it before, whilst he was banned.

It all lip service Hes not gonna get fit

Like you said hes had enough time He aint disciplined enough Why would he when hes just been patted on the back and picked for thr national team?

If he wasnt trying to fit when he was out of the team he isnt gonna make an effort whilst hes in the team

The selectors shouldnt have picked him Theyre setting the wrong example to follow

The right example isn’t getting us Sharjeel-type players anyway, so why all the hue and cry? Beggars can’t be choosers, and Pakistan does not have anyone with the skillset of either Sharjeel or Fakhar. There would be no reason to keep going back to fat fixers, if we had able replacements to begin with.

Sharjeel would eventually have found his way into the WC squad, out of desperation, so it’s much better that he gets a few series to establish himself rather than being thrust into the limelight on the big stage.

Wasim has messed up by not picking Fakhar in this squad, but quite certain these two will be our openers come the WC.

Why is evrybody on sharjeels case..everybody here wanted him in the team now they have everybody is having a moan. Its 2020 not a test or a one day so fitness is hardly an issue here

Now that it is done, what remains to be seen is how he performs.
If Sharjeel performs well then it would be even more damaging. he will be setting a wrong precedent about lack of fitness standards.

Sharjeel had time when he was banned to sort out his fitness, and he didn’t do it. That tells you all about his work ethic and motivation. Aside from his fixing, his laziness and attitude towards fitness is more than enough reason not to select him.

People will say fitness doesn’t matter, but being in shape for an athlete should be a given and it is required in modern day cricket due to fielding and ability turn 1s into 2s. There are so much stats these days you need to try and ensure you don’t let something like fitness hold you back in games that have fine margins.

He is selected in national team on basis of a promise! It has become a child's game now. Only in Pakistan.

Alarm bells should be ringing on players who are lazy and unfit

You shouldnt need to be told to get fit Its should be a given if you want to play for your nation Someone who cant do the bare minimum shows hes motivated enough n not someone you can rely on

There should be no room for leeway on this aspect

It's been rumoured over the years that Wasim Akram pulls the strings at PCB in terms of decision making and selection matters.

However whenever I have asked him, he has very little interest in getting involved in Pakistan cricket politics.

Exactly. Look at Australia and England, they don’t even need to talk about fitness as it’s a given. Even Pant was told to get fit, he sorted it out ASAP. Whereas in Pakistan there is always an excuse why fitness doesn’t matter. Which is absolute nonsense.

Seems like he doesn't even have enough time in his life to realize that PSL and IPL are two different leagues. Like seriously, how can a Pakistani cricket commentator keep calling the PSL for 'IPL'? He has become an ignorant old man.
