On Babar Azam’s selection:

“I certainly endorse his selection. With Fakhar Zaman, we sent him back to first-class cricket after a discussion about his focus on the one-day format. He wanted to work on his technique, so we gave him a break from T20s to get things right. I fully supported that decision, and it created an opportunity for another top-order player. It’s a great chance to get Babar back into the squad. He’s likely to bat at number three — a role I’m confident he’ll do well in. His inclusion also gives our squad more flexibility heading into the World Cup.”

On Mohammad Haris being dropped:

“Mohammad Haris has had plenty of opportunities recently, and I think he’d be the first to admit that he hasn’t made the most of them. But he’s still young and very much a developing player, so I’d never say his career is over. He does, however, need to work on his decision-making with the bat. Even domestically, he averages around 17 in T20 cricket — that’s an area he must improve to force his way back.
Usman Khan, on the other hand, is an excellent player of spin. We see our wicketkeeper batting more in the middle order rather than at the top, especially since playing spin in Sri Lanka will be a key factor for the World Cup. That’s why Usman has been given this opportunity in the current series.”

On South Africa’s challenge:

“The side that played against Namibia is quite different from the one we’ll face. Many of their key players are back, so we can’t read too much into that result. Aiden Markram captained that match, which gave us a small glimpse of his leadership style, but this is a much stronger bowling unit now. South Africa’s T20 side is very dangerous — they have match-winners who can turn a game on their own. We’re aware of that threat, but our main focus remains on our own preparation for the World Cup. We’ve won 15 of our last 21 T20 matches and are moving up the rankings, though there’s still plenty to improve.”

On Pakistan’s finishing struggles and “choking” claims:

“I wouldn’t say Pakistan have ‘choked’ in any game. We’ve won 15 of our last 21 T20s. Yes, we got ourselves into a good position in the Asia Cup final but couldn’t finish the job, which was disappointing. But that was against a top side currently ranked number one in the world. It showed us areas we need to work on — particularly playing spin through the middle overs. We’ve made some adjustments there, and hopefully, we’ll show improvement in this series.”

On Pakistan’s World Cup preparation:

“I think we’ve got most of our World Cup squad sorted, but there’s still competition for a few spots. In spin bowling, we’ve brought in Usman Tariq, while Sufyan Muqeem remains very much in our plans. He’s been sent back to first-class cricket to keep developing, though I was disappointed he didn’t play the recent match. Tariq brings a point of difference as an exciting prospect.

The wicketkeeping role is also competitive — Usman Khan’s inclusion adds more depth. And with Babar returning, there’s extra competition in the top order as well. We’re close to finalizing our group, but this series and the upcoming tri-series will help us refine our options in case of form or injuries.”

On what basis is Saim Ayub still in the squad? Just being ranked as the No 1 T20 all rounder on paper doesn’t justify his selection.

Pak has had too many openers playing as middle order batters; Saim, Farhan, Fakhar, Haris and even Hasan Nawaz?

So hopefully Babar will bring a balance, lets hope he succeeds. I, also think Usman Khan likes to open too, so may be not a good choice.

Farhan is good enough to open and keep leaving Abdul Samad at no 6.

Saim
Farhan
Babar
Salman
Hasan Nawaz
Abdul Samad/Usman Khan

Only weak link is the captain, ideal for low chases (along with Babar) or to stabalise an innings, but nothing else to offer.

Hessan understood the pakistan culture quickly- just keep the fans delusional and all is well. :p
Selling chooran of "we've won 15 out of 21"...reality is as below

0-3 vs India
5-2 vs BD
2-1 vs AFG
2-1 vs WI
1-0 vs SL
3-0 vs UAE
1-0 VS OMAN

14 wins, 7 losses in 21 matches, Look at the teams beside India.

He shouldn't have been dropped from the Test side either.

It's not like you were replacing him with Matthew Hayden.

It was Imam ul Haq and friggin Abdullah Shafique.

There's no way Saim is not an improvement over at least one of them

Hesson sounds very confident about Pakistans preparation, also he in loop with Babars comeback , this will definitely haunt anti Rizbar brigade

No opener
No middle order enforcer
No finisher
No second & third fast bowler
No second proper spinner

x
Farhan
x
Agha
x
x
Nawaz
Fahim
Shaheen
x
Abrar

That's 5 spots that are open and Agha is only there because he's the captain. Our coaches are unable to set expectations properly and when the team loses, everyone makes the surprised pikachu face.

I think they are just keeping Agha around till Shadab is fit, after that either Shadab will replace him as player with Shaheen white ball captain or Shadab t20 captain. Lot depends on Salmans own performance in next couple of series and unless he does a great job he will be out.

Agree. And saw lots of videos of Shadab getting back to training. Going to be his comeback soon

Also dont understand Usman Khan selection at all. He is ultimate fluke player. I would have either given one last chance to Haris then switched to Rizwan after or maybe tried some makeshift keeper. Can't believe we dont have any options at all for t20 keeping.

Looks like Hesson quickly abandoned his aggresive approach in t20s. Started from portraying the team as playing fearless cricket to now questioning decision making of agressive players and backing an aggregator.

It's back to square one for Pakistan where they will try the approach of safe, middling batting and then asking bowlers to defend it.

I doubt that's the case. I think there was always going to be room for Babar in there, they will probably still continue with aggressive intent even with Babar but they wanted at least some semblance of stability and avoiding major collapses in the line up also. If they had decided to drop to middling batting Rizwan would have been back too by now.

Good comments by Hesson. Was spot on about Harris.

I already said during the tri series, after asia cup, the guy who was giving advice to babar azam will be out of the team.

we also need his batting he cant play in the team just as a bowler
Well if he is taking more than 2 wickets, thats good enough.

We also need bowlers and allrounders aswell and if he can fill the spot from there, than there is no harm.

His contribution is still there and has more worth than the bowlers we got

Not too late , make your spin bowling department very strong + Shaheen and Naseem is enough.

Haris Rauf should go play FC to learn the art of bowling enough of his match losing brainless bowling it’s because of him Pak lost to USA can’t forget that grave mistake in the last ball as a frontline intl bowler.

Bring in a left hand batsman who can play spin very well in the middle order, I don’t think Usman khan is an option for that. So in that case I would have retained Hussain talat. Even Shan masood would be good to go why because of the attacking mindset and not fearing to use his feet against spin.
Tayyab Tahir and Irfan khan are better options too.

Irfan khan should be developed into a strong middle order batter Pakistan are missing gun fielder + a decent middle order who can be developed into a much better batsman with experience and coaching. The current PCB lot are with no brains and zero plans. I’m surprised Hesson also acquainted himself into that list

I don't like Babar's selection at all, he hasn't earned a recall & hasn't made any improvements.

I don't know if this is last chance saloon for him, but it wasn't a good call to bring him back.

Naseem Shah also doesn't make sense whatsoever. His fitness is still questionable & he doesn't look like he has improved his bowling.

Odd selections.

Fakhar zaman in multination t20i tournaments (Asia cup + t20 WC)

Mat 23
Runs 439
Avg 20
SR 115

3 fifties in 23 games, and 2 out of them are against HK and UAE
He has played in 5 multi-nation T20I tournaments for Pak

Btw, these are the stats of a power hitter.

Not like we have lost 200+ striker... he is rested anyway so.

Hesson is very certain about Babar. Let's see if he will be up to the expectations this time.

Lost to NZ 4-1 also

Anything would have happened if Pakistan went to next round in 2024 t20 wc where they are facing westindies and SA who they usually beat but this one mistake cost whole tourney....

Smooth talker. He's making it sound as if it's ultra difficult to get into the Pakistan first team due to high quality standards.

Any monkey can get into this team if they have blessings from noon.

Is this the 35 averaging Naseem you are talking about? The bowler who has among the worst averages in the history of t20 cricket?

At least Rauf averages 21.

Bluff from Hesson. He's there to collect his cheque month after month.

Pakistan World Cup preps are in shambles.

Hesson was a good coach who can form a formidable team.. It looks like he has given up on this lot because its Aqib who is making all the call and hesson is just simply waiting for to be sacked ..

Thanks to Aaqib and Naqvi for damaging Pak cricket into pieces.. It has been decline ever since Sarfraz was sacked and then Babar was sacked as captain of all formats in the last two years Pak are playing like certified minnows and losing matches in every format..

No body can bring this team up, skill level simply no match to top tier teams

How is it in shambles when we are not contenders by a country mile?

We got out-skilled tonight by South African pacers who got some bounce off a good length and our players were found wanting technically.

Similar to how our batters got found out on wickets with some help for spinners.

It’s a skill issue and not an intent issue, and no matter how many names you end up selecting they will perform the same way.

What call? Who are those prodigious talent not being selected which will make Pakistan world champions if selected?

Also weren't you claiming Shaheen and Naseem were enough? Now it's Naqvi interfering and this is not what you want?

Hahah... world cup world cup,

Naseem is still a misfit.... babar is inot in form as well.... Salman the captain is pathetic... Hasan Nawaz's honeymoon period is over and he has failed badly since then. Saim has been pathetic with the bat.. Usman khan the joke... Who else is left?

naseem can share the new ball with Shaheen but Haris rauf has lost many matches starting from two sixes he gave to kohli in WT20 2022 but that was sheer briliance from Kohli to hit a six straight down the ground , but the next six was a hit me ball on the leg side which kohli timed it to six , but could have smashed that too..

But to bowl the last ball to USA batter like that when 5 runs needed to win with mid off UP that too Shaheen who waa standing in mid off the tallest guy in the side.. Shaheen was totally pissed off at Haris after he was hit for four if u hav watched the match then u know...

In 2023 50 CWC Naseem who was bowling well lost his place due to injury and Haris who played every single match was one of the worst bowlers of the tournament,

This was Haris' template evrey match basically he gives 15-18 runs in his 1st over as 1st change bowler in PP and 2nd over leaks 10 or 12 runs.. so nearly 25-30 runs in 2 overs and try to catch and reduce his RPO in remaining 8 overs to keep under 10, ending up with figures like 8-0-65-0 or 10-0-85-1..

He is there because of Shaheen and now he is the ODI captain.. Haris will gift more laddoos for batters for next 2 years...

Tulla Agha is ready for WC! Hesson is fooling us and people are falling for it. Kick out this useless coach. We don't need a foreign coach.

At this point it think only 3 players are sorted; Nawaz, Shaheen, Abrar.
Faheem can be in 15 , has performed fine since come back but pace bowling all rounder is a bit of misfit for Asian conditions.
Saim can be considered sorted if he finds his batting form back by world cup.

All other spots are not yet sorted.

I dont know what they were thinking by bringing Naseem back and Usman back. For Naseem is the fact he played for Islamabad united only criteria. At least bring back Abbas Afridi who has performed better than him in recent past.

So they are banking on Agha as T20 captain, this is ridiculous
Agha is going to end up losing his captaincy before the World Cup, that's entirely obvious now once Shaheen was made ODI captain.

It will make a slight difference as Agha is literally a walking wicket right now.
