“Kohli is a fantastic player but our team will make it “hard” (for him) to hit a 100": Mickey Arthur

Team India captain Virat Kohli has registered 33rd ODI hundred and first in South Africa on Thursday, thus joining the company of Sri Lanka’s Sanath Jayasuriya and India’s Sachin Tendulkar, who all have scored ODI hundreds in nine out of 10 original full members.

Jayasuriya and Tendulkar, however, have not scored a century in Zimbabwe and West Indies respectively, whereas Pakistan is the only country where 29-year-old Kohli is yet to register a century, but to his credit, he has not played there.

“Kohli is a fantastic player but our team will make it “hard” (for him) to score a century there”, Mickey Arthur, the Pakistan coach, now holidaying in Australia after the New Zealand tour, said exclusively from Perth.

“It has been a great pleasure to watch Kohli scoring against all teams and it is always enjoyable to watch his batting. However, our bowlers will not make it easy for him to score there”, the South Africa-born Arthur added.

It is not known whether India would travel to Pakistan in near future. But the Pak. coach was optimistic.
“Hopefully, India will come to play in Pakistan”, he signed off.

Pak captain heading for Umrah

Sarfaraz Ahmed, the captain of the Pakistan team has also sought a short-break. “We are going to perform Umrah in a week’s time”, the captain’s wife, Khusbakth, speaking exclusively from Karachi said on Friday.

“Our son Abdulla will also be coming with us”.

“Will be returning before the month end as Sarfraz has to play in the Pakistan Super League”, she added.

Looks like Sethi, Shereyar and co are rubbing off on Mickey.

and which team intends to make it easy for him or for any other batsman? every team and every coach makes plans to stop him, and any other batsman, from getting big scores. Sometimes they are successful sometimes they are not. Seriously confusing statement. If he or his team is not making it harder for any of the opposing team player to get a big score they are not fit to be playing.

Has kholi scored a century against a legal Pakistani bowling attack?

"Kohli" has 2 centuries against Pakistan from what i remember. 1 in Asia cup that mamoth 183. Another in WC15 in Australia.

Unfortunately for Kohli he would never be able to score a century in Pakistan.. India will not tour Pakistan in kohli’s Career.. Sad but true.

They should turn up for one series and call it the "We will make it hard for Kohli to hit a 100" series.

Not gonna happen mate BJP gonna stay in power till atleast 2023.. And today 4 soldiers were martyred on LOC.. Whatever one may hope for but in reality it will not happen..

Mickey Arthurs statements these days makes me think whether he believes that hyping up Pakistani team or players and comparing them to Indians is more likely to allow him to keep his job.

I'll be honest. I thought it was satire when I read the article first up.

Mickey is basically saying that "our team will make it “hard” (for him) to score a century there".

There = Pakistan / UAE, where we don't tour in the first place. ::J

Well i am not saying he is right

But he isnt wrong. :yk

he has done it in odi,,,,and will do it in tests as will but Micky arthur spoke his heart which is not bad, every coach will want him not to score hundred against them.

These things are just said to attract viewers and you know Indian fans are anyways very much insecure related to Kohli.

Don't generalise your opinion on all Indian fans ...Who cares if some Tom, dick and Arthur says something while holidaying

King will give answer at right time :kohli2

Kohli doesn't seem to have a habit of raking up useless centuries as a certain someone.... I'm sure Kohli is the type of guy who would love to score 90 not out every time for the rest of his career if it ensures his team's victory. Another person would have went for his ton even if it meant his team lost. No points for guessing who I'm talking about.

I get no point but I'm gonaa guess anyway. I remember that player from my very first time watching televised cricket match for full length. He scored useless 90+ in chase against Pakistan in WC.

One guy in particular comes to mind. :azhar2

Harsh on Sachin :ashwin

Again, I doubt the authenticity of this statement to be honest. The one about 'Fawad Alam needs to hit more boundaries' was also proven incorrect so it wouldn't be the first time that his comments have been misinterpreted. But yeah, sounds absurd.

Pak will have to go and hire someone like mcgrath to stop kohli. Bowling talent is there for sure but not sure about intensity they have got.

While some deluded posters here are highly confident and practically gloating that Kohli will have no problems scoring a 100 in Pakistan against the Pakistani bowlers, i would like to state that the opposite is also highly plausible where he won't get a 100. Kohli rarely plays pakistani players, and the outcome of him running over all the pakistanis bowlers who usually up their game when facing India, is just jumping the gun. He has gotten out to Aamir and Junaid and other pakistani players in the past, so its not impossible.

Kohli also scored 183 vs Pak bowlers in Asia Cup long back; now Kohli is in beast mode :kohli2

This statement would’ve made sense if India-Pakistan were about to play a Bilateral series, and Arthur was creating a hype for the series. But since India-Pakistan aren’t likely to meet outside of Multilateral tournament, his comment is nothing but false bravado.

Well said ... It's like low grade actors getting headlines by commenting about superstars in our Bollywood

I expected better comments from Mickey, I have no idea why all of a sudden he brought up Kohli?

I highly doubt the authenticity of this MA statement.

Was this said in an interview? Is there any video? or Audio clip?

What do you want him to say ? Nah, when we play India we'll roll over for Kohli, let him score a double century and then give him a box of mithai to take into the pavilion ?

Also, as mentioned above some false remarks have been attributed to Arthur in the past so the veracity of the comments is doubtful.

From an absurd guy.
"Absurd guy" won the Champions Trophy, gained #1 ranking in Tests and T20s, and was the first Pakistani coach to win in the Caribbean.

To score a 100 against any Team is not easy ... he is just stating the obvious ... kind of a " Feel Good " statement !!!!!

Yes this is spot on. You can’t expect a reputed good coach to demoralize his own team by saying “ I’m really going to be very worried if Kohli plays here” instead he will try and motivate the team anyway he needs to. He was spot on, on his response. This in turn will also get his team to try harder to accomplish that.

The poster you quoted is on one extreme, and you are on the completely opposite extreme.

If you like listing Arthur's achievements, please also remember that under Artur we lost 2-0 against SL in UAE, 3-0 in Aus, 2-0 in NZ (tests), 4-1 England (ODIs), 4-1 Australia (ODIs) and 5-0 NZ (ODIs).

Obviously there was going to be a tough transition post-Younis/Misbah in Tests having lost so much experience in the batting. In Abu Dhabi we should've won but collapsed to Herath in the 4th innings. Arthur made a mistake playing 1 spinner.

3-0 in Aus
Disappointing but we should've won the Brisbane Test and drew the Melbourne Test. We competed far better in an Australia tour than at any point since 1990. But yes to lose 3-0 was a bitter pill to swallow.
2-0 in NZ (tests)
The preparation thanks to PCB was totally inadequate. The schedule meant we hardly had any time between the WI series in UAE and the NZ Tests. We had no warm-up matches which spelt disaster as NZ dished out extremely green pitches.

4-1 England (ODIs), 4-1 Australia (ODIs) and 5-0 NZ (ODIs).
These are strong teams in their home conditions but the England/Australia defeats came about during a rebuilding phase for the ODI team which proved ultimately successful with the CT win.

As for the NZ whitewash, Sarfraz/Arthur/Inzamam were naive in thinking they could "stick with a winning formula" despite knowing Azhar, Hafeez and Malik's shortcomings against quality pace outside Asia in ODIs. However Arthur did revamp the team for the T20s, introduced youngsters and kicked out Hafeez, becoming the first Asian team to win a T20 series in New Zealand thus claiming #1 T20 ranking.

Look he obviously didn't just talk about Kohli out of the blue.

A reporter probably asked him if Pak bowlers could stop Kohli and he gave an answer what any coach would.

Poor journalism and sensationalist title just to grab a few responses.

Mickey should say that Kohli will score a century in every match.

Seriously, Kohli fans get offended by anything anyone says.

Probably someone asked him a question and he answered. End of story. Not sure why this is such a big deal. He is entitled to his opinion.

Of course he's going to back his team. He can't say Kohli would trash us. :))

Here is a guess..... maybe he was asked about it.... *shock and horror* :broad:

Why is it some of these Journalists always asked about Indian players, when the series isnt't even happening between the two

Very rarely if ever Indian captain or coach have asked about Pakistan players or team in an interview.
