"After that Babar Azam played well and then what a performance from Haris Sohail today; he played a good innings"

"We played with other team combinations which is why Haris Sohail didn’t come into the team before but when he got a chance, he scored runs today"

"Sometimes change is good for the team and the way Haris played it looked like he was hungry for runs"

“The way Haris Sohail batted today was the turning point of the game today”

“We have to work hard on our fielding – again we dropped so many catches today so hopefully we will work hard because all three remaining matches are very crucial so we need to sort out these things”

“It was a complete bowling effort; Credit goes to Mohammad Amir as he took an early wicket and then also in middle overs; Shadab Khan took 3 wickets for us which was missing in previous matches"

“Imad also bowled well in the end, Wahab Riaz and Shaheen Shah Afridi also did the job for us today”

It was a pleasant surprise that innings from Haris, didn't know he had that in him. I just hope he can carry that forward in the next three matches as well because those are must win for us.

Not a surprise at all.

We all knew Haris is a gun batsman.

But we need him to be consistent, will he be able to remain consistent?

He needs to carry on with this momentum.

When was he ever not consistent?

Considering Hafeez had departed, we needed an aggressor and Haris played the role to perfection. He struck the ball really well. Really promising to see he can adapt his game to fit the needs of the team.

Pakistani batsman's mantra: Play one glorious innings followed by 7 single digit scores because you've cemented your place for the next 20 ODIs with that one knock.

Upto Haris now to follow up with another match winning 50 next match.

No doubt about it. Harris completely changed the game or we had ended up with 270 max. It is a surprise because Haris came out firing all cylinders today and played a selfless innings.

I was surprised because I expected Haris to go at around an 80-85 s/r.

Was an excellent innings. Hope he keeps this attitude going.

The only thing inconsistent about him was his selection.

He's not Bradman, won't score every match.

Take a look at his match by match scores though; he is very consistent, should've never been dropped for Malik in the first place.

Some fans actually wanted him out of the side

This is the second time he's batted at 5 and scored 80 odd to win us the match

That was a wonderfully entertaining innings my Sohail. We would have perhaps won a few more matches had he played more then just one match. He has to play the remaining matches in place of the useless Malik no matter what.

In ODIs, he has an average of 66.4 vs. Australia in 6 matches, and an average of 48.55 vs. NZ in 10 matches. These are very good numbers. For a team like Pakistan which lacks dependable batsmen, it is very surprising he did not play against India.

I am sorry but how does a batsman who average 40+ with the bat be in the sidelines in order to pick the likes of Asif Ali and Malik?

I have been vocal about Haris for a while, but Pakistanis have this obsession with Jazba and Junoon from the likes of Fakhar or Asif Ali.

Pakistan rode Haris Sohail's 89 off 59 balls to go with an impressive showing from their bowlers to knock South africa out of the World Cup 2019 when the two teams met at Lord's on Sunday. Sohail, who was adjudged the Man of the Match for his match-winning innings, came into the team after Sarfaraz Ahmed decided to drop out-of-form all-rounder shoaib Malik and instantly proved his worth.

After the victory, Sarfaraz singled out Haris for special praise as he compared his late-overs flourish to the way England's Jos Buttler performs for the current hosts.

"Haris Sohail put in a great performance. We changed the combination in this game. Couple of games earlier, we went with other combination. That's the only thing. Sometimes change is good for the team. Today the way Haris batted, he is hungry to play in the game. He's the main factor, the turning point, the way he batted in the last 15 overs, it was like Jos Buttler," said Sarfaraz after the victory.

The skipper credited the win to 'a complete team performance' as Pakistan managed to stay alive in the tournament. However, Sarfaraz was still critical of his team's fielding as there were many dropped catches during the Proteas' chase. Mohammad Amir alone was guilty of shelling 3 catches but thankfully for Pakistan it played little role in determining the end-result.

"I think it's a complete team performance. Credit to the openers. They played really well. We have to work harder on fielding. Again we dropped so many catches today. All three matches now are very crucial and we have to sort it out. Complete bowling effort. Credit goes to Amir, took early wickets and in the middle overs as well. Shadab was really good in the middle overs as well. Thanks to the fans for their support," signed off Sarfaraz.

Pakistan now lie 7th on the World Cup 2019 points table with 5 points from 6 games. They will next play New Zealand on June 26 while for South Africa, their remaining matches against Sri Lanka and Australia only hold academic importance, as they are left to lick their wounds after another ouster from the World Cup.

Sarfaraz needs to trust him with a few overs with the ball

Sublime innings from a sensational player, have always said he is our best batsman along with Babar Azam, yet for some odd reason they always drop him from the playing XI in favour of terrible players who can't score to save their lives. How Pakistan needed a innings like that, will hopefully turn around things for us.

From 1992 to 2019

Mohammad Amir has bowled like Wasim Akram
Haris Sohail has batted like Inzamam Ul Haq
Babar Azam is playing like Javed Miandad

I just saw Saj’s tweet about his average, wow he averages 54 against non-minnows.

That is some seriously good batting.

Let’s hope he scores a ton against NZ!

He should never have been out of the team

Anybody whos seriously followed pakistans batting over the last few years know how consistently good harris is Hes probably the best bat in the team

You cant compare him to the likes of malik and asif one bit God only only why these two have played over him

Harris average is quite good especially against top sides. Not his fault Pak team management has been treating him unfairly. You would always take him over Malik. This should not have been even a debate. The more Harris plays the more chances of Pak winning. Yesterday Pak didn't look like they will score more than 250 if it wasn't for Sohail special knock. He batted SA out of the game with a blistering 89 at 150+ strike rate. Thid is caliber of him. Malik woukd have been dancing on his back foot.

That's the problem. People just don't know how consistent he has been against good bowling attacks. He fails one game and we have to recall Bradman Malik for his experience.
miandadrules must be feeling so happy for being proven right once again. Never put faith in bits and pieces cricketers.

I saw a stupid journalist criticising Haris even after this splendid knock. So glad Arthur put him into his place

I don't think anyone doubted his ability. He has always been rated as a highly talented and classy batsman. But the big surprise was him playing that kind of match-changing innings. Pakistan need batsmen like Haris, hope he can carry on and avoid those injuries.

When we have people in charge who make those type of decisions (leaving Haris out and Malik in) are you really surprised why we struggle more often than not?

he pretty much changed the entire team dynamics :hs .Only thing of concern is his fitness. He was out of breath towards the end of his innings and he only faced 60 odd deliveries. For this reason he is better suited as a finisher and not as a builder. If he can improve his fitness in the coming months then he would be an excellent replacement for Hafeez at number 4

All you had to do was look at the numbers :))

However our desire to treat undeserving seniors like royalty is what costs us time and again.
