“Whoever the board appoints as captain will face problems” : Misbah-ul-Haq

what about his impact on the ODI side? The dark ages of Pakistan ODI cricket?

His test stats look good because we played 70% of our cricket in UAE in the last 6 years. he doesn't have a single test series win outside UAE. That explains his legacy.

Number one ranking in Tests is a massive achievement and that defines his legacy. Doesn't matter how and why, I'm well aware of how Pakistan got there and how good we really are, but that doesn't matter in the end.

Yes we were dependent on the UAE but you seem to have forgotten our poor results at home during the 2000-2009 period. We were a weak team at home in that era in Tests, so the unbeaten streak in the UAE is nothing to scoff at.

Misbah has a poor legacy in Limited Overs, but rankings in ODIs and T20s don't mean much in the long run unlike Test rankings, and that is because Test cricket doesn't have a trophy. Had Misbah led Pakistan to an ICC trophy, his legacy would have been much greater of course.

What a well wish statement from an ordinary but lucky captain and selfish man who did not groom a single good cricketer or a proper future captain and always prefer friendship over talent

Yes we should revere Misbah for taking us to number one in the rankings for about a week by winning/drawing at home and getting favourable weather pattern in the Ind-WI series. Why is it that this same team has slid all the way down to number six under the captaincy of the same Misbah the great?

Shouldn't we also revere Misbah for taking us to number eight in the ODI rankings?

It goes both ways doesn't it? If you want to credit him for number one in the rankings you should also credit him for number six and eight in the rankings.

Misbah's mainly being criticized for the decline in our Test ranking. And that was what I was referring to. You conveniently brought in our ODI ranking and performances (even though it's been almost 2 years since Misbah retired from that format and every knowledgeable fan knows the issues run much, much deeper there) to support your argument. Also, you completely missed the point I was making in my original post. Had he retired before these tours, the same people who're NOW of the opinion that he should have retired after the England series, would be calling him a coward for 'running away from his greatest challenge till date.' And that, in the end, is probably why he chose to stay.

He recommended Azhar Ali and he still backs him. It's a valid argument to use against Misbah. If a guy can support a player to be made captain when he himself didn't want him team for two years crushing all the merits for friendship. Azhar has been completely exposed and he was a waste of time in the 2 years. He didn't change at all so we have wasted these two years. If Misbah could not rise above his friendships then he should not have recommended Azhar to be made captain, now he has made that and it has completely failed he should be ready for criticism.

This also explains the argument raised against Misbah that he preferred his friends and close buddies over players like Umar Akmal,Umar Amin,Baber Azam,Harris Sohail when he was the captain of the ODI team.

really we were poor from 2000-2009? The period between 2003 world cup and 2007 world cup is still considered the strongest of last 14 years. Inzi not only managed to win against opposition at home but dominated other teams in their backyard too. and he didn't merely rely on spinners to do the usual proceedings because back then players were not this pathetic against spin, he had build a great combination of fast bowlers and spinners and he inducted young blood like Kamran,Salman Butt,Asif.

Misbah and PCB are acting as though in a cricket mad country of over 200 million he can't be replaced. The longer Misbah and Younis hold on the harder it will be for them to retire it seems.
