Match Number 1:

England v/s South Africa

Seems to be a decent crowd so far. Hope the tournament builts up nicely and we get more crowds in the upcoming matches to have a successful tournament.

yeah... It was almost full and loud. hopefully tomorrow there will be a good crowd is well.

Match #2 : Pakistan v/s West Indies.

Will it be anothet jam packed stadium? With the Pakistani fans expected in the crowd, nothing short of an electrifying atmosphere is expected.

Any chances of equal support in Ind Pak match? Or we will see us outnumbered again?

Any chances of equal support in Ind Pak match? Or we will see us outnumbered again?

Pakistani fans in the UK are too lazy to compete against Indian fans in fetching top prized tickets.

Heard the ticketing for the Pak WI game today was a shambles. Someone I know today had to wait at the box office for the whole Pakistan innings to get his ticks. Ridiculous

India and England games will be most crowd pullers am sure. Pakistan fans will get disheartened pretty soon if things continue to go south.

Surprising to see an India game not full from word go but guess will fill later

Was the India Game packed later?

Bangladesh NZ game had a lively atmosphere.

Only SL Afghanistan match had only a few supporters in the stands.

Huge Indian support in game vs Australia at The Oval

Seems like 99% of the crowd today at The Oval is supporting India.

You get that in Europe.
When Turkey or Morocoo play here vs the Dutch team at times it looks like an away game for NL.

Same for Germany.

Overall crowda have been really good so far this WC.

Other than SL vs AFG at Cardiff (the ground that also had terrible attendances at the 2017 CT), the crowds have been very good so far.

Nice to see pretty full grounds. I think it looks much better having, say, 15,000 people in a 17,000 capacity stadium than 25,000 in a 40,000 seater.

Yes.. It was bleed the blue in the stadium.
Noisy stadium it was.. Very good match... Perfect entertainment it was.

Homeside playing, ground not full - hardly any noise!

This wc seems so dull without any horns, music in the background, dhol etc. It seems like playing in front of empty stands.

This world cup format in India (Summer or Winter) would be superhit with all matches getting houseful...! Rain and Crowd would be fine in India...

most grounds have banned horns unfortunately, From what I know theres only two grounds in the country that allow horns.

Old trafford and Cardiff stadium

English crowds have always been more docile than Asian/Australian crowds. Most games have close to full stadiums after the first hour it's just people are sperging out when not every seat is full after the first over.

English fans are carrying Sri Lankan flags I see :))

Anything to troll Australia.

I mean its the most boring WC in history so people will do anything to get some entertainment.

Afghans come to the party!

Great crowd in today, hope we get even more Lankan fans join the party; I love it when they blow the trumpet and magic starts to happen :)) SL_Fan

Wonderful to see the crowds turn out as the weather improves considerably.

If only some matches were on Free to Air TV, then there'd be World Cup fever nationwide.

A few empty seats today to my left - maybe about 30 maximum.

Other than that, it's around 24,000 at Edgbaston.

Good crowd at Headingley for Pakistan v Afghanistan

Looks about 90% Indian fans today which is incredible given they are playing the home team.

MCC members have received a panicked email imploring them to buy tickets for Bangladesh versus Pakistan at Lord’s or risk damaging the club’s global reputation.

Only 50% of available pavilion tickets have been sold for Friday’s World Cup group stage match and the MCC committee has now relaxed its age restrictions to invite 250 school children into the famous old building.

But after images of empty pavilion benches were beamed across the globe during England’s famous victory over India in the 2017 Women’s World Cup final – prompting widespread online criticism – Guy Lavender, the MCC chief executive, has moved further to avoid a repeat.

Writing to members on Tuesday, Lavender said: “The latest tournament standings mean the outcome of [Bangladesh versus Pakistan] could prove crucial to England’s prospects of reaching the semi-finals. From this perspective, Friday’s match may yet prove to be one of the most decisive of the tournament. Unfortunately, and notwithstanding the context of the match, the Pavilion remains heavily undersubscribed.

“Members may recall the ICC Women’s World Cup final in 2017, when unfavourable comparisons were made between the number of members in the Pavilion and full stands in the rest of the ground. This is damaging to MCC’s global reputation and the committee is determined to avoid a repetition of these images on Friday.”

This summer’s World Cup is the first global tournament where MCC members have to pay for tickets in the pavilion, with this Friday’s game priced at £45. The three previous group games at Lord’s have been well attended by members, while the final on 14 July is already a sell-out.

Lord’s is also due to host one of the eight teams in The Hundred, English cricket’s new city-based tournament that starts next summer and which is hoped will attract a family audience from all backgrounds.

On the presence of schoolchildren in the pavilion this Friday, Lavender added: “It is hoped [this] will both improve the appearance of the pavilion and provide the youngsters with a memorable and formative experience.”

Is above article only for few sections of stadia? Rest i believe will be sold out by Pak and Desh fans long back!

Guys where can I purchase a Pakistan flag / the green hair wigs etc? I'll be in London today and Manchester tomorrow. Thanks!

Possibility of an embarrassingly large number of empty seats in Edgbaston for AUS v ENG?

After the unexpected victory of South Africa over Australia in the last group match - which shook up the semi-final line ups - I am worried that most of the seats could be empty for Thursday's semi final between AUS v ENG given the very short window of re-sale of tickets (just essentially 2 days between the 2 semi finals).

Anyone local in UK - can you confirm if the stadium is actually going to be full?

It's impossible to buy them from the official website (despite available tickets being shown at medium availability) so it will be officially stated as "sold out" once the match takes place (because third parties will buy the left overs and those who are actual fans who have them in their baskets will actually buy). You'll still see empty seats from people who couldn't get them because scummy people resold tickets illegally and dodgy ticket websites who have bought or used bots to keep tickets in baskets. In the UK this is a big problem but I'm not sure how it is in other countries. It's an unfortunate consequence of online sales and the general policing of ticket touts being awful. You'll literally see ticket touts not even a road away from the main gates which is embarrassing.

As per reports, a very large portion of tickets were bought by Indians beforehand.... can definitely expect to see some empty seats.

This thing used to happen in Canada too but I think they made a rule against it. This kind of thing should be criminalized.

Well bear in mind that many die hard Indian fans would have bought tickets and would instead of watching Eng V Aus at the ground, would no doubt prefer watching part 2 of India’s semi final on TV even.

There were a couple of thousand empty seats at Old Trafford yesterday and there will be more today - I’m about to head off to Birmingham. My ticket is going in the bin.

As George Dobell wrote yesterday, most English cricket fans prefer Tests and are waiting for The Ashes next month.

England vs Australia will sell out. If tix are available to the fans.

Knock out stage tickets need to be made available once the fixtures are confirmed.

There is a lot of interest in the WC from English fans. You live in a fantasyland.

This World Cup has been one of the best cricketing events of the last 20 years. Your snobbery is actually hilarious now :)))

This. Any England game would sell out, definitely a semi final against the Aussies would.

Of course that is assuming the tickets haven't been bought up by Indian fans in advance, but I would hope that isn't the case.

It is the case, but the converse applies too!

I have a £240 ticket for India v NZ, and I did go yesterday, but with the score at 82-5 I’m currently wandering around Warwick Castle.

I bought tickets for both semis, but I can’t be bothered to watch India v NZ for a second day. I preferred to get to Birmingham for the bigger match.

Obviously for an England fan their game will be bigger.

What I have seen their is a lot of interest in the World Cup for England fans.

I think the turnout for games has been quite decent for most match. Dont think you will see many World Cup venues in the world where you get a decent crowd if you have non local teams like Sri Lanka vs Afghanistan match.

lol on Junaids
England call sell out any JamODI vs Aus we are taking about WC SF

Im considering going tommorow, should be a cracker of a game.

Anyone manage to get a ticket?

If it's a New Zealand versus Australia final, the stadium could be half-full :)

They shouldnt sell semi and final tickets until the top 4 are decided at the least.

Tickets available for second semi online now if anyone wants to go.

It would be easy to get tickets. Even if not on website, people can just find people selling them on social media or failing that, just turn up to the ground 1-2 hours before the game, and you'll most likely find someone selling them.

I can deal with empty seats. If Pak does not win it then India must not so either.

I live in the UK bro. People who don't even watch cricket are aware of what's happening and following some games. It's only him who isn't interested in the WC.

Yeah I should have made that clear in the original post - the fact that if the tickets were made available to legitimate fans my question would have been irrelevant.

Of course there is absolutely no question that a knock out match between AUS v ENG will be a sell out anywhere in the cricketing world - I was just worried about the tickets already being bought by Indian fans given that Australia were expected to beat South Africa in the last round robin game.

Damn you South Africa. I see vast empty spaces in the stadium. Such an important match - in fact a semi final of a World Cup - not good to see so many empty seats. Hopefully they will fill as the day goes on.

It is not a good advertisement for cricket that a marquee knockout match has this sort of attendance - and the horrible thing is that - this stadium would have been filled to the rafters if ICC had managed its ticketing process properly.

Empty seats in a semi final for the home team, ICC wont care though.

Very disheartening to see this. Big semi final for England and the camera men cant hide the vast majority of empty seats. Why would ICC care though? They have already made maximum revenue by selling out the seats months in advance to passionate Indian fans who took the gamble of their team reaching the SF at this venue. Money made, who cares if cricket looks weak!

Seriously, ICC needs to do something about this. ICC tickets must go on sale according to the venues being confirmed even if it comes at a massive hit. Tired of Indian fans completely sabotaging main events by somehow having a strange advantage in all ICC ballots for tickets.
