Almost got used to seeing Malik appear in every World Cup! But yes sad to see him play his final 50 over ICC comp.

I assume this list is about retiring cricketers.

Otherwise I can see many Pakistani players playing their last world cup - regardless of age.

Dhoni will retire from all forms of cricket I feel after 2019 WC. I don't think he will want to play after that.

For the 2 decades Shoaib Malik has been part of the Pakistan team, it's pretty strange to know that he's only played in 3 ODI world cup matches, all in 2007!

Dhoni is not going anywhere. He is the best at PR and his fanbase idolizes him.'

Almost certain he will try to be part of the 2023 WC.

Surely this can’t be right. Was he not in the 2011 team?

Malik, Hafeez, Afridi and Ajmal + Gul, Akhtar/Wahab and Razzaq would have made an excellent bowling side with a long batting line up.

wishful thinking. If this lad doesn't retire after 19 WC, and tries to extend till the next WC, I will stop watching cricket. LOL

That is unusual but now that I think about it, 1999 would have been too early, 2003 was the last hurrah of the old guard.

I can't remember why he did not play in 2011 and 2015?

Used to seeing him appear in every World Cup???? Mate, he's played 3 World Cup games in his whole career, all in the 2007 tournament. Wasn't part of the squad in 2015 or 2011 editions of this tournament. Not sure how you can 'get used' to him being there when this will be he first WC since 2007.

He averaged around 20 or so runs from 2009 - 2014... The only time he scored was the 128 against India in CT 2009.

His turn around from 2015 onward has been very good. I just wish that he would bowl more.

Probably we’ll see most changes from the three best teams in this WC, which does suggest better teams are a result of future planning & reaching a WC with most number of players at their peak age.

Not necessarily for age only, but I think we’ll see at least 8-10 new faces in Indian squad of 2023. I don’t see Dhawan, BK, Shami, ATR, MSD, Jadea, Jadav, DK in next WC ... probably Chahal, Rahne, KL, Khalil as well.

Similarly, Pom squad will get a major phasing out. Probably only 5-6 players - Root, Butler, Stokes are almost certain, since it’s a WC in IND, may be Moeen as well. Don’t think anyone else is safe for a WC in India in 4 years time.

Touch & go, but I think SAF is probably just ahead of AUS & NZ now and they’ll have a major changeover - Faf, Amla, Styen, Morris for certain - would have been AdV & Morkel as well but for their premature retirement - their retirement has opened the door for few players who should be retained for next WC.

Most steady squad probably will be BD - apart from shortages (of replacement), this is quite a young team actually. Only Mash is certain to leave, may be Rubel & Mahmudullah as well; but apart from them whoever misses out will be for poor form or being replaced by better player, not for age. We might see everyone else (apart from Mash) to be in contention for 2023.

Hopefully, Malik won't be part of playing XI in the world cup. Hafeez can bat at 6 against Ind, Sri, Ban but Malik is a big no for a world cup in England.

After this world cup, we should start inducting young players into the team and these players should at least be good players of spin because next CT and WC 2023 is in India. We should look to replace Harris, Sarfaraz, Imad and Imam with younger players immediately after world cup. Saud, Zeeshan, Saif Badar, Agha Salman, Rizwan Hussain etc can be tried as replacements.

Hasn’t Malik only played in one WC - that is the 2007 one

He did not play in the 2011 WC due to be out of form and had been dropped from the ODI team after the tour of England in 2010.

He was well and truly out of the picture by the time of the 2015 WC with Umar Akmal, Misbah, Masood and Haris being the mainstays of our
Middle order. He had been dropped again after the 2013 CT.

It was only after a very stellar domestic season that he was recalled for the Zimbabwe series in May 2015 and has been playing LOI ever since.

Sarfaraz will play in the next world cup

Depends on two things

1. Good WC with at least semis exit
2. His fitness

I believe he would retire from tests or be sacked as test captain by the end of this year which can help him the next WC

There is hope against hope Malik is not part of the 2019 World cup squad. His record in England is absolutely horrible. He averages 12 i think in around 25 matches in England, and whilst he may helped the CT17 squad with his motivational talk atter the defeat to India in the first group game, he did not really score any runs.

His form has tailed off and whilst i like Malik his poor record in England can not be ignored. He is experienced, but the only experience he has in England is that of "failing".

Hafeez injury potentially means he wont play in the World cup so he may get a free ride.
