2020 Democratic Party presidential candidates [Bernie Sanders drops out Update#741]

I’m in awe of Amit Jani’s name. Jani is a familiar term of endearment for everyone from your sweetheart to your child to your bosom buddy to your elders: Baba Jani and Agha Jani etc being in common enough usage.

The effect of an RSS guy having this name is chilling. It suggests a smiling assassin.

More RSS types should adopt such names. Atal Bihari Sweetie, Narendra Cutiepie etc.

It's probably some hindu name he's misspelling on purpose. I remember asking some indian why some hindus had the last name "Shah" when it's more of a persian name, I was told that it's actually pronounced "Sah" and has no relation to the original "Shah".

Even better. It suggests he’s cognizant of the chilling effect it has and is actually cultivating the smiling assassin persona. This guy is going places.

Trump has a long history with racist behaviour.

Why don’t you post what the likes of Ilan Omar or AOC say about USA?

This is politics and dirty words said are part of the game.

Under Trump America is doing good. Trump is no angel. But I cannot support any party that is far left and he’ll bent on implementing socialism and unchecked migration from 3rd world countries.

Just look at democratic run Detroit or California. Many areas in LA, SFO and Detroit will give you nostalgia of slums in India or Africa.

That means you are also in favor of granting so many visas to indian IT workers then? Maybe they should stop them entirely and make corporations hire local talent?

Not really. Here in US majority of people usually vote for the party and not the individual. Some of the poorest areas in the country vote for the same part over and over again. Maybe if we had a parliamentary system people would vote differently.

However the popularity of a candidate can make his party have a higher turnout, and the unpopularity of a candidate can make his party have a lower turnout. Which is why trump will be hard to beat since his base loves him.

However Bernie is not loved by everyone in the Democratic Party. A lot of Dems will just stay at home if he is the candidate.

People are people.

They vote for the person... Not party.

I would say the opposite will happen if Biden wins. Bernie supporters will probably not vote.

I would love to see Bernie fight as an independent if he is denied nomination. Is it possible?

We don't need them. I think we should cancel all H1b visas, deny greencards and more importantly anybody that recieved a greencard through the h1b scam should have it revoked.

I have a feeling that you didn't read the article. Majority of the instances listed are from way before Trump entered politics. Its not a long read, go through it if you have the time.

This just one quote from the article:
Kip Brown, a former employee at Trump’s Castle, accused another one of Trump’s businesses of discrimination. “When Donald and Ivana came to the casino, the bosses would order all the black people off the floor,” Brown said. “It was the eighties, I was a teenager, but I remember it: They put us all in the back.

Can't just dismiss this by terming it politics, considering this is form way before he became active in politics.

What have Omar and AOC done that is racist? Being against wars and or even capitalism doesn't make you a racist.

Bernie's racism against African Americans unlike Biden is the big issue. Tulsi is the best candidate still

Didn't Bernie struggle in the civil right movement and fought segregation? He was even arrested while protesting segregation. Can you post a example of him being racist towards African Americans?

Tulsi is probably a great candidate for people who can overlook her links with RSS and Assad. not to mention the fact she recently made comments defending the 2002 Gujrat riots.

Then you should vote Trump not Democrats esp not Bernie.

The amount of h1b cancellation , revoked and denial happening under Trump is on record , new public charge rule that has come up for h1b and GC has happened under Trump Administration, many desi consultancies are closed thanks to Trump, so many going to Canada

Guess you are confused about whom you hate more Indians or Trump lol.

Thank God. We should also revoke greencards and citizenship of people that got it through the H1b scam and if you were born here to H1bs then you should have your citizenship stripped.

As I said vote Trump, I think that’s his next challenge on the birth thing, you should have it if one more term!

Go Trump for Pakistani Americans , see it doesn’t matter whether someone outreaching is non-Muslim or not, as long as he hates Indians!

Bernie is the wrong candidate you are supporting here, he will probably open the flood gates.

I support Bernie for his pro-humanitarian stance on Kashmir, if he can impose sanctions and a no fly zone on India and launch Operation Kashmiri freedom with all of America's military might then I'll forever be a Bernie Bro.

Lol , there is more chance of him increasing up asylum numbers for Indians in America than that, imagine that scam Indians could pull off, you know he would reduce the GC wait for Indians in queue.

Also you support Bernie more for a foreign policy than his policy for within America? okay..

Try again kid or try fb/twitter you riling no one here with these sentences ‘Trump-bro”.

Yeah I thought so, after reading your recent posts it wouldn't have been the same person, as I knew the other person pretty well for a lot of years so did my wife. No offence meant but I am afraid no Pakistani can like a Hindutva lover like Tulsi. Thanks for confirming the mistaken identity however.

Wait, Tulsi is Hinduvta?

Why am I not surprised to see some so called “progressive” American Democrats supporting the likes of Tulsi and Biden. God I hope Trump wins again just to see these people suffer. (If not Bernie)

There are 340 million Americans, that includes minorities and people that don't support. Wishing ill upon millions of people cause your ego isn't the mature thing to do. That's like wishing for Bilawal to become Pakistan's next PM just cause how backwards Pakistan is right now even though his party would do irreparable damage to Pakistan.

Biden won’t do any better than Trump just like Obama has caused more long term damage to the world than Trump

Biden won’t do any better than Trump just like Obama has caused more long term damage to the world than Trump

He will do marginally better.

- Appoint left-leaning judges, 3 are nearing retirement and trump will appoint alt right judges if he gets the chance.
- Will stop ICE raids and mass deportations/kids in cages.
- Will remove the "muslim ban", restoring the visa process for people from muslim countries that were affected bu the visa ban.
- Benefits asian people working here on work permits.
- Protect the Affordable Care Act which Trump is trying to repel. It's not medicare-4-all but it's better than what we had before Obama.
- Bring back the Obama era tax code which was better than what trump introduced.

Of course he's far from the best option but a few notches better than Trump.

Biden has a much better chance of beating Trump than Bernie in a general election. For Bernie too win he needs to bring in new voters, the youth vote, which is way more risky than choosing Biden.

As long as Biden chooses a male African American Vice President, i think he can beat Trump. In the US the urban population votes Democrat and the rural population votes republican. There are not that many independents. It usually comes down to turnout, and a African American VP will increase there turnout.

Biden is also not a bad debater in a one on one setting. He crushed Paul Ryan in the Vice President debate in 2012.

Definitely an African American on the ticket would help Biden with African American voters, but a "male African American Vice President" is nowhere in the picture. The top 9 possibilities are all female. Kamala Harris is the top African-American possibility. Apparently neither Cory Booker, nor Deval Patrick are considered possibilities.

Cory Booker is being widely considered to be Biden's running mate. A Biden-Booker ticket seems likely.

Biden and Kamala would make more sense. Kamala is a woman, she is black..

That’s what people get wrong most of the times. People think he’s marginally better than Trump but he’s not. He wanted to cut social security, worked with segregationists and praised by them in the busing era, voted for Iraq war, tabled Bernie’s bill on price controlling in government funded drugs, not to forget his mental decline and gaffs. Biden is not fit for the office.

And I’m not sure that a guy with such history can ever even dare to undo the actions of Trump administration.

Don't forget the bankruptcy bill, attacks on Libya without approval from Congress, and a higher level of deportations during Obama years.

That is the biggest problem, mainstream media does not want to vet Biden on his past records. He has no ground to stand on against Trump. Biden has a lot of baggage that Trump and Republicans will exploit during general elections.

If i was Biden i would go with Booker. Dems have to flip Pennsylvania at all costs. With Biden being born there and Booker being a senator from a neighboring state that could be enough to make it blue.

And after the cheap shot Kamala took at him during the primary if i was Biden there would be no way i would select her.

Welcome to America. She identifies as fully black and is viewed as such, we have the one drop rule.

Which is awesome, Try telling it to others on that thread having issue with homosexual , binary gender etc etc, cmon you can do it unless you agree with them coz religious bias!

Obama is half white as well but identifies as black. I think it’s not that a person identifies as such, it’s just the way most societies are. Since he is not full white, he was always going to be black. That’s how it works I have noticed.

I have seen people call em mixed, Mariah Carey , Keanu ,Meghan Markle , Stephen curry etc etc , they imho have the best features physically

It’s quite possible that average people, naturally go by apparent looks. Obama looks black. Kamala harris does too. Although you could make a case she looks creole. She probably is, I’m not sure.

Same with others .. if it’s hard to pinpoint based on looks like Keanu, people are quick to label them mixed. And yes there is no denying some of them are lucky enough to inherit the best features.

I think a lot of the time it depends on what the person looks like. Obama/Harris look black and that’s why most people seem them as black.

On the other hand someone like Wentworth Miller(the guy who played Michael in Prison Break) is seem by most as white despite being mixed because he looks white. I think if you are mixed, your identity is often decided by what you look like.

Yeah that’s exactly what I was suggesting in my last post. I agree with you.

I think the people who voted for Trump were voting against politics as usual. Considerations such as Biden being born there or Booker being from a neighboring state cuts little ice with them.

At this point Trump's greatest threat is the coronavirus sending the economy into a recession. Tourism is going to be very hard hit, and it will have a multiplier negative effect.

The greatest threat to Biden is of course Biden. He could be losing it. It is quite possible that he will come across as confused and lost in one on one debates.

What does Republican run Appalachia remind you of?

Poorest areas of the country vote red, and blame all there problems on everyone but themselves.

It's more complicated than your post, it's a misconception that the poor voted for Trump.

"Places that backed Trump skewed poor; voters who backed Trump skewed wealthier"

https://www.washingtonpost.com/news...oor-voters-who-backed-trump-skewed-wealthier/

No doubt the inner cities are poor and are vote banks for the Democrats.

Some clueless poster above mentioned "Biden is the man"
Here's a list of things Biden has supported:

Nafta

DOMA (ban on gay marriage)

War in Iraq

War in Afghanistan

war on drugs

anti-busing laws

mass incarceration

bankruptcy "reform"

repeal of Glass-Steagall

the Patriot Act

marijuana prohibition

His actions towards anita hill

Trying to cut social security

lying during his first campaign which caused him to back out,

lying about being arrested in South Africa,

lied about coal mining ties

lied about marching in the civil rights movement

Long story short. This man cannot beat Trump.

Biden’s cognitive decline is worrying.

Yeah. I think Biden will become the dem nominee but I can’t see him beat Trump. Trump will wipe the floor with Biden in the next couple of months.

Both Trump and Biden are senile and are facing cognitive decline, it's just that Biden is a few years older at a more advanced state so it makes Trump's mental health issues look benign.

Looks like it will be Biden.. he has outperformed Bernie.. much as I hate to say it :(

Absolute travesty, Biden expectdly picked up Missouri and Mississippi in blowouts and could possibly win in Michigan which was Bernie's best state, apparently older black voters chose Biden. It's really ashame they're voting against their interests.

Two-thirds of people under 45 still voted Sanders, so there's hope for the distant future but for now the establishment will dominate for years to come.

It’s amazing how much Americans are obsessed with an election that will barley influence the course of their lives.

They have far too much to appreciate and preoccupy themselves with petty politics to find something to complain about.

Barely*

For all those saying that Biden cant win, i feel most of them are either immigrants to US or they are from other countries.

In US presidential elections most people already lean towards one party. The truly independent voters are limited. The parties are divided on too many issues like gun control, healthcare, social security, raising taxes on rich, immigration, etc. So people long before the debates know who they will vote for.

It ultimately depends on who can have the biggest turnout. Republicans will turn out in big numbers because they like Trump, but Democrats will also turnout in big numbers as well because they hate Trump. They could care less of how Biden is as a candidate. in 2016 Dems didn't turnout in as large numbers for Hilary, because alot of people did not like her, and they did not think there was anyway she would lose. This will not happen in 2020.

Biden might lose but it will certainty not be a easy win for Trump. In fact he is leading in the polls right now.

Actually, Trump can lose this time due to the fact there's no Hillary.

People don't hate Biden as much as they hated Hillary.

I couldent care less. I just love watching people lose their rag over Trump, its hilarious. Whoever is president makes no difference in the long run but seeing Trump put all the idiots in such a spin is legendary.

True he isn't "Killary/Crooked Hillary" however Trump will rail into Biden at the debates, humiliating him. If Trump aggressively pushes the "sleepy joe" narrative then it'll be over real fast.

Libertarian and Green candidates have been quite this time. Where is Gary Johnson? He provided some serious comic reliefs last time.

Its great to see Bernie losing, the meltdown of his supporters is amazing. They are so brainwashed that they think Bernie can beat Trump. If you think Biden can't beat Trump, there is no way that Bernie can. Trump vs. Bernie would be the same as Corbyn vs BoJo in UK. Bernie similar to Corbyn, has a lot of antisemitism, hinduphobia and sinophobia among their top ranks.

Will be fun to see the meltdown of Bernie bros soon and democrats+ for another 4 years. MAGA 2020.

LMAOOOO accussing a Jewish man of "antisemitism" :)) :)) :)) and his campaign co-chair is a Hindu (Ro Khanna).

Bernie beats trump in every head to head poll, you can't compare the UK to the US - two extremely different countries. In the UK the wealthy large cities in the south voted for conservatives whereas in America the wealthy large cities/states vote Democrat, the wealthiest states in New England never vote trump neither does California, Chicago or NYC or even major metros in the south whereas the UK conservatives drive their power from the prosperous south of England.

Joe Biden has cemented his position as front-runner in the Democratic race to take on President Donald Trump in November's White House election.

The former vice-president is projected to win Michigan - the biggest prize of primary voting on Tuesday - and extend his lead over Bernie Sanders.

Mr Biden's chances recovered with big wins on Super Tuesday, after which several former rivals endorsed him.

It is unclear if Mr Sanders will fight on until the party convention in July.

The Democrats' next big election milestone is in a week's time when 577 delegates are up for grabs.

To secure the nomination, a candidate needs the support of 1,991 delegates. Before Tuesday's vote, Mr Biden had 648 to Mr Sanders' 563.

What is Biden's message?
Joe Biden's campaign looked all but lost at the start of the primary season in February.

The former vice-president, 77, finished a poor fourth in the Iowa caucuses and fifth in the New Hampshire primary.

But the turn came with South Carolina - where he won due to the support of the large African-American community - and on the 3 March Super Tuesday he won 10 out of 14 states at stake, establishing a sizeable lead over the Vermont senator.

Thanking supporters from Philadelphia on Tuesday evening, Mr Biden said Democrats, including supporters of Bernie Sanders, could beat Donald Trump.

"It's more than a comeback, this campaign," he said. "It's comeback for the soul of this nation."

"Tonight we are a step closer to restoring dignity and honour to the White House," Mr Biden added.

"We have to lead the world again," the former vice-president said. "Donald Trump's America First policy has made America alone."

Senator Sanders, 78, enjoys widespread support among young voters, but has so far failed to turn that into electoral success.

Beginning of the end
Mississippi was the first state to be called for Biden on Tuesday, and it was only the latest example of the strengths of his campaign - and another reason why the former vice-president appears to be in the driver's seat as the primary season unfolds.

As in South Carolina, the state that started Biden's political revival, more than 60% of the Mississippi electorate is black. And, as in South Carolina, the former vice-president dominated that demographic, to the tune of 86-11.

The common refrain that a Democrat can't win the nomination without the support of black voters, somewhat in doubt after Sanders' dominating win in the Nevada caucuses, now seems to once again be an ironclad rule.

Four years ago, Michigan gave Bernie Sanders a surprise win, breathing new life into a campaign that was struggling. This time around, the Midwestern state could mark the beginning of the end for his campaign.

Barring some sort of drastic change in the race, a recovery seems unlikely in the extreme. With every state Sanders loses, he falls farther behind - and the more improbable his comeback would be.

Well..let's see.

Bernie's supporters are young crowd.

Biden's is older crowd (professionals & black).

If Biden wins, young crowd won't come out and vote. As you said, unreliable crowd. Cos they hate Biden and rightly so. That dude is HALF INSANE. :))

If Bernie wins, do you really think that blacks won't come out and vote? No way in hell. They will cos they hate Trump.

Anyways, all of this is a moot point as Biden will be fighting against Trump now.

And get clobbered without a hope. :P

BINGO!

This is something people are not getting.

All they are worried about is immediate problems (can see their point tbh) but they are not realizing that NOTHING will ever change with status quo.

American at the end of the day may be a superpower but it's a DEEPLY BROKEN country.

Every bribery there is legalized in the name of lobbying. People can't afford health or education but the nation is busy flexing its powers all over the world.

Dems think people will vote for their candidate REGARDLESS of who they put forth. Hoping for anti-incumbency to kick in.

Very similar to the arrogance of Congress here in India.

You need a MASSIVE JOLT for things to start working.

As they say, you have to move 2 steps back to go 10 steps forward.

Or in extreme cases, a nation has to hit rock botttom for things to improve.

As they say, nothing teaches you like failure.

Biden....I mean seriously.....a guy who is ALMOST half brain dead will be elected as the leader of the free world.

:))

Biden will be slaughtered by Trump so Dems will lose anyway.

By voting Biden, Dems are actually voting for Trump.

If Dems truly cared about children, supreme court judges and all the issues they talk about....they would have voted Bernie or someonne else who stood a real chance.

Talking about the general dem population and not posters here (who do care about them).

So this whole public shaming of people wanting Dems to lose (for choosing Biden) actually makes very little sense.

Time will tell where Dems truly stand.

Let's see what happens this Tuesday.

Dems need to be TAUGHT a lesson. :))

Grab the popcorn.

This is going to be fun.

GO TRUMP!!!!!

Biden’s cognitive decline is worrying.

:)))

You beat me to it.

Trump 2020. :D

Dems need to be TAUGHT a lesson. :))

Grab the popcorn.

This is going to be fun.

GO TRUMP!!!!!

So on the one hand you oppose fascism in your own country, but are happy to root for a fascist wannabe in another country simply to "teach the Dems a lesson".

I hope all those families detained in cages at the border, the people who will have their ACA protections taken away, and all of us hoping to live on a liveable and sustainable planet 50 years from now will appreciate you teaching the Dems a lesson and having fun.

Biden’s cognitive decline is worrying.

Biden is way past his prime, but do you think the incumbent president is a living example of mental acuity and intellectual prowess ?

How about the last Republican President ? Yet Americans voted for him twice.

And what the hell does it say about the strength of the Bernie revolution if you cannot even beat a corrupt former First Lady and establishment flunkie (Hillary Clinton) and a politician whose best days are 10-20 years behind him (Joe Biden) ?

This would make sense if Biden had a decent chance of winning.

That half insane dude has no chance.

You are reacting to my words but not seeing the reasoning behind it.

I am calling a suicide mission for what it is.

All this logic is good for forums but in an election, having dementia is a deal breaker.

As for Bernie... Didn't hillary destroy trump. In opinion polls only to get owned later on.

Biden is no better actually. The only difference will be that once all those things continue to happen under the Biden presidency, things will truly get normalised and the media will hit the snooze button.

MAGA 2020.

How can Bernie be an antisemite when he is Jewish himself and has lost relatives in the holocaust?

Just because one criticizes Israel or India doesn’t make them antisemites or hinduphobes.
