Conflicting reports coming in.

Thought to be at least two different incidents, likely related.

MP's told to remain inside. House of Commons in Lockdown.

Apparently a car mowed down several people on Westminster Bridge.

A man with a knife has been shot by police.

Speeding car mowed down at least 5 people on Westminster bridge.

Guy with a beard and a gun on the scene

Mowing down common people with cars/trucks is standard operating procedure for ISIS.

Hope none of the terrorist scums was of Pakistani origin.

Don't know yet if terrorism related. So don't jump to conclusions.

It's a bit of a stretch to call it an operating procedure. It's pointless violence perpetrated by small minded hooligans. No serious organisation would want to be associated with such mind numbing hatred and stupidity.

ISIS attacks in France, Belgium and Germany have all been associated with deranged individuals driving a vehicle through crowds of people. That is why I said it is their SOP.

Firstly, I pray that no one is badly injured.

Secondly, I pray the attacker was not a muslim fanatic.

Police treating it as terrorist incident until they confirm otherwise. Sounds ominous.

this poor BBC presenter not choosing the right gesture given situation

I get why you said it, I was just saying no serious organisation would associate themselves with such an SOP.

John Stevens of the Mail says there's a blanket over the body of what's thought to be the police officer attacked. CPR efforts stopped.

Armed police now checking every room inside Parliament.

Hope no casualties

And hope no one of Pakistani origin involved

Stop being damn nationalists. First and foremost, you should be hoping that the shooters weren't Muslims.

If he's Muslim, he could be from anywhere: Morocco, Algeria, Iraq, Indonesia, etc. Why spread your risk and profess your allegiance to such a wide basket of people? More often than not you'll come under pressure.

Of course, there's no reason for you or the next person on this thread to be answerable if he is indeed of Pakistani origin, but at least there is a solid connect there.

Because if its a Muslim, the media and people will again start discussing the religion, some taking potshots at it which can be very painful for a Muslim to hear.

Everytime there is a terror attack, many Muslims feel super uncomfortable and brace themselves for a barrage of comments coming their way. That is why Raymann is hoping its not a Muslim.

But odds are that this is mostly a Muslim terrorist attack.

Other posters have reconciled to it and hope that its not a Pakistani so that the attack is atleast not directed towards their country.

Well to each their own, but this is a rather shaky genre to publicly associate with - you become an easy target for people searching for a person or group of persons to blame after these incidents - which seems to occur every few weeks.

You won't become any lesser of a Muslim if you say you're Pakistani - which is a fact in any case. Helps you keep your cover in these dark times as well.

ISIS would also claim they ran over your cat.

The alleged attacker.

Whether you are less or more Muslim is not the point.

Its not at all a shaky genre.

Imagine the whole world attacking your religion, God, prophet and making statements about people who believe in it....it can be very hurtful. That's why Muslims hope its not a Muslim. Its different from the Muslim brotherhood thing.

Well, the long term approach in my view where people state that they're Pakistani first would have the general populace recognize a particular subset called Pakistani Muslims - who are not part of these attacks. They'll escape some fire at the very least.

Come to think of it, there hasn't been any person of Pakistani origin in these ISIS-led attacks at all. If I was from Pakistan I would do anything in my power to point this out.

Not just that many a time in such instances muslims , sikhs and brown people in general are at risk of being violently attacked and their family's safety becomes at risk

He probably was an extremist unfortunately although nothing concrete has come out yet, did he say "allah akbar" before he killed people? just need that confirmation

Don't buy into that. Definitely will be Muslim.

Well if he is Muslim, then I don't care whether or not he is Pakistani.

I take pride in being a Muslim, but there is no reason why I would want a terrorist to be from a Muslim country other than Pakistan.

Yeah that is true.

Yeah this distinction is better but many ain't gonna care regardless. More so when bombs attacks and other terrorist networks are prevalent in the said country.

I am expecting Trump passing a law to ban muslims from driving

What a cowardly thing to do. As is the case with most of these attacks, the attacker will probably be some lunatic who thinks that killing innocent people is a way of seeking salvation whereas killing innocent people is the fast lane to hell.

these duplicate Muslims may die a natural death asap, ruining our lives like no tomorrow!

The same people who this cockroach was out to kill are now working to save his life. Look at the irony.

If it were upto me I would let him suffer.

He's needed alive so that he can be interrogated to see who's behind it and who else is involved.

He's more valuable alive now... apply all means within the law to get every bit of info out of him.

Amazing world we live in.

5-6 people die in London - twitter goes crazy.

Hundreds of people die in countries like Pakistan, Iraq, Yemen, Afghanistan and Syria and hardly makes the news.

RIP to the victims.

thelandofthebravepeople thats because sadly in those countries terrorism and violence is a common occurence in most western countries these attacks arent happening on a regular basis if they did then people would get used to it and resigned to the fact it could happen. Its surprising and more shocking seeing an attack outside the U.K parliament than yet another suicide bombing in an Iraqi market.

Very sad scenes. RIP to the victims looks like an Islamist Jihadist attack atm will be very interesting to see how the U.K Govt reacts to this.

Shocking to hear about this today RIP .

I hope they keep the culprit alive and interrogate him .

Serious question to anyone who may know the answer.
Is it possible to hypnotize someone to commit these atrocious acts of terror ?

If you don't value life don't moan.

In Iraq etc human life is worth nothing.

Pakistan attacks make the headlines.

Utter nonsense.

But in sentencing, he called the breach "serious and deliberate" and stressed the importance of counter-terrorism restrictions.

Mr Justice Saunders said: "They (restrictions) are particularly important at this time when there has been recent terrorism activity in several European countries and the fear of further terrorist attacks is intense."

Both men were sentenced to two years in prison. The maximum term for the offence is five years.

in_cutter you have no response so you just respond with a nothing comment. If someone dies in a bombing in a war zone or a country that has a large insurgency or terrorist movement and attacks happen every month or every few weeks then it becomes a normal thing and less shocking. In Western countries in places like UAE this type of attack is a rare occurence so it is more shocking.

Nonsense again.

All terrorist attacks are shocking. There is nothing 'normal' about a terrorist attack

Truly tragic day as a Londoner ...Could have been any one of us today ...one hopes that the injured recover and there are no more casualties ...

Saw an interview where the presenter asked whether this incident shows 'cracks' in our countries counterintelligence ...a bit tasteless and just an ignorant question ...it's not really a time to be attributing blame ...

Counterterrorism in this country has been extremely effective but sadly for us ...terrorists have adapted and come up with new weapons ...

Terrorists no longer need networks and there needn't be 'chatter' to pick up on ...IS has encouraged its supporters to attack London ...they don't need to give direct instructions nor directly communicate with a would be terrorist...

Add to that that weapons, equipment and plans needn't be sophisticated anymore ...Anyone with access to a vehicle can turn it into a weapon ...You can follow bombs, gases and general weapons but lorries and 4/4s?..

in_cutter so when you see a bomb has gone off in Baghdad or Kabul and a bomb has gone off in London your level of shock or surprise is the same. im not talking about the levels of sympathy you have for the victims but what shocks you more. Iraq a country that has been involved in a War for the last 14 years that is fighting ISIS on its soil or the U.K one of the most stable countries in the world.

you expect more violence and killing in a warzone than in a country that isnt experiencing war. Thats just common sense.

Why would I have different levels of shock? Every Western country is in danger of attacks. So no, I am not surprised one bit.

Pointed it out at the time.

Two confirmed sources, his solicitor and his brother say he is in jail. Quite hard to plan and execute an attack from a prison cell.

You're guess is as good as mine at the moment.

It could be anything from lone wovles, isis, mental health patients, national intelligence services, foriegn state terrorism or just some evil men but we I will go with the official version to keep you happy.

I don't believe anything the main stream media says. Not denying that an incident took place yet everything else is a cover up.

Armed police raid house in Birmingham and arrest people after London terror attack

Armed police have carried out a raid apparently linked to the terror plot that brought bloodshed to the heart of London, as MPs spearhead a show of defiance by returning to Parliament.

Officers stormed a flat in Birmingham late on Wednesday night, with West Midlands Police directing inquiries about the operation to the Metropolitan Police.

The London force refused to comment on the raid’s connection to the bloody assault on Westminster, but one witness told the Press Association: ‘The man from London lived here.’

The House of Commons and the House of Lords will sit at their normal times on Thursday, despite the parliamentary estate playing unwilling host to the attack the previous day.

Pc Keith Palmer, a member of the Parliamentary and Diplomatic Protection Squad, was killed as he tried to stop the attacker at around 2.30pm on Wednesday, while three members of the public were also fatally injured.

The suspect, who was armed with two knives, injured around 40 people as he mowed down pedestrians with a car on Westminster Bridge before crashing at the railings in front of Parliament.

Bursting through the gate to the Palace of Westminster, he stabbed Pc Palmer before being shot dead by armed officers.

Theresa May praised the bravery of police officers on Wednesday night as it was announced Westminster would attempt to run as smoothly as normal.

In a statement from Downing Street, the Prime Minister said: ‘Any attempt to defeat those values through violence and terror is doomed to failure.

‘(Thursday) morning, Parliament will meet as normal. We will come together as normal.

‘And Londoners – and others from around the world who have come here to visit this great city – will get up and go about their day as normal.

‘They will board their trains, they will leave their hotels, they will walk these streets, they will live their lives.

‘And we will all move forward together, never giving in to terror and never allowing the voices of hate and evil to drive us apart.’

Donald Trump was among world leaders to offer their support.

Shortly after 1.30am UK time, the US president tweeted: ‘Spoke to UK Prime Minister Theresa May today to offer condolences on the terrorist attack in London. She is strong and doing very well.’

Counter-terror detectives will continue searching for clues to how an armed attacker brought destruction to London.

Speaking outside Scotland Yard on Wednesday night, Acting Deputy Commissioner Mark Rowley, the Met’s senior anti-terror officer, said police believe the suspect was ‘inspired by international terrorism’, and they believe they know who he was.

Paying tribute to Pc Palmer, who had served the police for 15 years, Mr Rowley said: ‘Today in Westminster we saw tragic events unfold, and our thoughts are with those who lost loved ones, those who were injured and all those affected by this attack.

‘One of those who died today was a police officer, Pc Keith Palmer, a member of our parliamentary and diplomatic protection command. Keith, aged 48, had 15 years’ service and was a husband and father.

‘He was someone who left for work today expecting to return home at the end of his shift, and he had every right to expect that would happen.’

The attack has delayed the Queen’s planned visit to the new headquarters of the Metropolitan Police.

A Buckingham Palace spokesman said the decision had been taken to postpone the engagement in light of the attack.

Stories of heroism and bravery emerged from the incident, which brought central London to a standstill and closed transport networks around the capital shortly after 2.30pm on Wednesday.

Paramedics fought to save Pc Palmer, and his attacker, on the floor of the cobbled courtyard in front of Parliament, with Foreign Office minister Tobias Ellwood among those who rushed to help.

Mr Ellwood, who lost his brother in the Bali bombing, could be seen pumping the officer’s chest then standing above him, his hands and face smeared with blood.

Armed officers, some in plain clothes and wearing balaclavas, swarmed around the yard feet from where MPs had earlier attended Prime Minister’s Questions.

The knifeman’s attack left a trail of destruction as paramedics tended to victims on the bridge and at the gate.

One woman hit by the attacker’s car before he reached Parliament was confirmed dead by a doctor at St Thomas’ Hospital. Others on the bridge suffered ‘catastrophic injuries’.

Another woman who fell into the Thames was rescued and given urgent medical treatment on a nearby pier.

A party of French schoolchildren were among those targeted on the bridge, while four students from Edge Hill University in Ormskirk were also hurt – two described as ‘walking wounded’, and another couple said to have minor injuries.

Romanian and South Korean tourists were also caught up in the tragedy.
