A group of men approached Charanpreet Singh and attacked him over a car parking dispute; police arrested a 20-year-old Enfield man for assault and others fled and remain unidentified

A 23-year-old Indian student, Charanpreet Singh, was brutally assaulted and left unconscious on a street in Adelaide after a group of men allegedly hurled racist abuse and attacked him over a car parking dispute.

Mr. Singh was allegedly told “f*** off, Indian” before being punched repeatedly and left to die on the roadside, 9News reported. The incident took place on Saturday (July 19, 2025) night (local time) near Kintore Avenue in the heart of the city.

Mr. Singh, who was in his car, said a group of men approached him, hurled racial slurs and launched a physical attack without any provocation.

“I tried to fight back, but they beat me until I was unconscious.”

He sustained severe injuries, including brain trauma and multiple facial fractures. He was rushed to the hospital, where he remained under medical care overnight.

South Australia Police arrested a 20-year-old man from Enfield on Sunday (July 20, 2025) and charged him with assault causing harm. However, the rest of the attackers fled the scene and are yet to be identified. Police have appealed for public assistance in tracking them down.

The assault has sparked outrage among Adelaide’s Indian community and raised concerns about the safety of international students and immigrants in Australia.

Support for Mr. Singh has poured in online, with many calling for stronger action against racially motivated violence. Mr. Singh, speaking from his hospital bed, said the attack has deeply shaken him.

Things like this, when they happen, it makes you feel like you should go back,” he said. “You can change anything in your body, but you can’t change the colours.”

South Australian Premier Peter Malinauskas condemned the assault, calling it unacceptable, according to 9News. “Any time we see any evidence of any racial attack, it is completely unwelcome in our state and just not consistent with where the majority of our community are at,” the Premier said.

Police continue to investigate the case and are reviewing CCTV footage in the area.

Never argue with people in a foreign land. Always maintain low profile. You never know what kind of people you are dealing with.

Hope the culprits gets arrested asap and put away in jail for a long time.

Many time these racists are drunk or carrying knives too.

Some Indians are very obnoxious. They bring out the worst in people. For example, Kohli's shoulder bump with Constas. If Kohli did that in real life, he could get a beating.

Anyway, we don't have the full picture yet. Did the Indian man start it first? We need more details I guess.

There are Bangladeshi students, Pakistani students etc. in Australia too. They don't get attacked. Why attacks on Indians frequently? Maybe because Indians act entitled, obnoxious, and confrontational?

They need to understand they cannot behave as they please outside of India. Other nationalities are unlikely to put up with their nonsense.

Anyway, if this attack is unprovoked, I definitely condemn it. If Indian man started it, I don't feel sorry. Hoping to learn more details.

May be they are scared of Bangladeshi Purush. Who wants to mess with mighty Bangladeshi babus.

According to @Rajdeep victim is guilty in such situations
@Rajdeep probably out here looking like the whitest bloke alive, blonde hair, blue eyes, and a British accent so pure it makes the Queen sound Cockney. Wouldn't be surprised if he faced racism from other Indians for being too white. Makes you wonder if that’s why he occasionally cosplays as the EDL’s PR guy.

Very unfortunate. Need to come together and unite against goray like this who want to attack anyone with a skin color different than their own… I mean what the hell.

Have heard out of all angraiz based countries Australia is by far the most racist, haven’t been but this is what seems to be the view from many

I know someone who lived there for 7 years and he mentioned from his experience he found Aussies to be extremely racist.

Like Eastern Europe, Australia is on my no go list of countries to visit.

Indians often side with racist gorays against Muslims. :inti

Anyway, if this was an unprovoked attack, I definitely condemn.

SHame on those guys who did that... Racism is never gonna get any support even if is a hindu or muslim or jew or whatever...

This is horrendous...
Hope the man gets justice and the attackers are caught and jailed for a very long time

You are right, but we have such people in India too, not just racists, but in general. Road rage, fights on buses and trains, these things are quite common. So you are not safe anywhere on this planet. :inti

Yeah. That's what I was thinking.

It seems like this incident was a parking dispute gone wrong. I am not sure if there was any racist angle here. Just 2 guys fighting I guess.

Let's see what the investigation finds.

A lot of Indians living abroad seem to struggle with identity. You’ll usually see two extremes some try so hard to blend in that they lose any real connection to who they are normally the ones with slave mentality. Then there are others who hold on tightly to their traditional ways, but end up feeling out of place and often come across as uncomfortable, they’re the ones who usually get picked on. In this case, it was a Punjabi guy and Punjabis are cut from a different cloth. He probably didn’t take it quietly, tried to stand his ground, and ended up getting jumped for it.

Have you EVER heard that dialogue - "Bolne de, bolne me kya jaata hai' 😂

Pakistanis like you in this forum represents that. In reality we all know respective aukats of both Indians and Pakistanis abroad

:rp

Indians are an easy target, they need to shake off this image of being passive and start fighting back. Other than black people, they suffer the most.

A large portion of white nationals are racist, just some will hide it better than others. Aussies and Americans are generally the cast offs from Britain coming from lower class backgrounds so they tend to be more blunt about it, that is all.

Indians usually will put up with it with a smile and a nod, thinking that they can deflect onto other communities which are getting most of the flak for being "terrorists" and will bootlick to gain a step up the ladder:

I’ve always felt Australia as quite racist. Not in the too distant past, they had policy of white only immigration.

They might not be liking it if too many brown faces are cutting about. But seems like an isolated incident so perpetrators need to be brought to justice.

As per news report, it was a parking dispute gone wrong. It is possible there wasn't any racism angle but it was merely a regular fight. Kiwi batter Jesse Ryder was beaten like this; he had to be hospitalized.

I have friends and family in Australia and they never faced these attacks.

It was possible the Indian guy escalated it by being confrontational. I guess a thorough investigation is needed to determine what really happened.

Never faced attacks over their either. I never had issues with anyone over their tbh

Regardless this is shameful from the people who hurt this man. I hope the people who hurt this man all die in a fire.

How dare they attack and injure this man. May god give them hell.

My hatred for certain indian posters will not detract me from speaking up about abuse. May Allah give this man a happy healthy life. I am so sorry for what you suffered. You're the champ 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻

duno if indians provoke them but there have been countless cases of sexual harassments from indian nationals.....my aunts and cousins have been living there since the 90s

and on so many instances their uber driver is indian and their way of starting a conversation with a female passenger is "do you have a boyfriend? are you single?.......I live alone with my dog....isn't he cute.....you want to come over and meet him?"
