Wow, he seemed like such a nice person as evident by the overwhelming support he has had across the world from fans and cricketers alike.

Such is life that he was so eager (and was likely) to get a test spot but such a tragedy. Wonder how the cricketing world will react and will there be any change in protection/bouncer rule?

What a sad day for all of cricket world. ICC needs to carefully examine its rules regarding player safety. I also fear for stand in fielders who are always in danger.

I feel for Sean Abbott, the bowler who bowled that bouncer. He would be feeling miserable right now.

Around month back he was playing against us. How time and life changes, You never know what is gonna happen next. May he Rest in Peace.

I have just got a cofirmed BBC news alert on my phone.

Phillip Hughes has sadly died.

The most shocking cricket incident in my life - I pray for his soul and his family.

Had a superb domestic record and was bound to make it to international scene but then. Feel sorry for him.

RIP.

I've been following this story from the start but I'm shocked at the death.

A very talented cricketer taken away way too soon :(

My condolences to the Hughes family.

Such a talented bloke. Nature acts in mysterious ways. We ought to console ourselves on the fact that he took his last breath in the company of his friends & family & we cricket fans wish the best for him.

Was driving, heard it on the radio, im shocked :(

really thought he would pull through. Never imagined a day like this.

RIP Phil Hughes , condolences to his family and friends.

Very sad :(. He seemed like a bloke generally loved by everyone. He 26 FC centuries from already at the age of 25. He was 3 days away from turning 26.

so so sad.....i dunno why but i am quite broken up over this, he always came across as a great bloke...shades of archie jackson the way he was taken away from us so soon

RIP Phil....you are probably up there opening for the Heaven XI....cutting malcolm marshall for four over point.....

Unbelievable. I am still in shock.

Have no words !! absolutely devastating...never imagines we would see such a thing in cricket in this era.

I hope his family, freinds and Sean Abbot pulls through and have all the support they need.

Rest in peace Phil Hughes...

Omg. This is terrible. Should never happen to anyone again. RIP Hughes. Feel really sad.

May Allah rest his departed soul in eternal peace and give the bereaved family the courage to bear this irreparable loss with patience and fortitude, Ameen!

I offer sincerest condolences on behalf of cricket community to the bereaved family.

The black day in cricket history! We can't imagine how much pain his loved ones would be feeling right now, and how abbot would be feeling i think he may never return to cricket field again, the sense of guilt may never leave him for rest of his life, even though there was nothing intentional behind all this by abbot, we should all support him to get through this scenario. And Rip hughes.

Very sad :(. He seemed like a bloke generally loved by everyone. He has 26 FC centuries already at the age of 25. He was 3 days away from turning 26.

I m in a state of Shock. Very sad to see a young cricketer passed away doing what he loved doing the most. RIP Phil Hughes.

Was hoping he will pull through. I can't believe that he has passed away :(. He was only 25 and had a full life ahead of him. Can't imagine what his family and friends are going through right now. Also spare a thought for Abbott he must be really feelinf sick in his stomach right now. Its a great loss for the greater cricketing family as well. RIP Phil Hughes :(. You have always struck me as a nice dude.

Lost of words. I'm 25 years old too and love cricket as did Hughes. Such a young age and his best years were still to come. He had a long successful career ahead of him. Such a sad day not only for Australia but Cricket as a sport. Lost of words, don't know what to say. RIP Hughes. Always rated Hughes and will never be forgotten.

Also feel so sorry for the bowler who was bowling. He must be devasted more then anyone.

RIP. I can't express my sadness in words. I remember when he debuted against South Africa and scored twin centuries in only his second test. My dad and I said that Australia had found at least long-term solution to Hayden and Langer. Obviously, it didn't quite pan out that way but I am pretty sure he wasn't far from making a comeback for Australia. Also, seems like a great man off the field. I wish for the best for all his friends and family and anyone hurting from this massive loss.

Really feel sad, him scoring back to back hundreds at the start of his career comes infront of my eyes :(

Very sad news, was dreading to hear this. Gone far too soon. Rest in peace Phil Hughes :(
I feel bad for Sean Abbott too, I hope he pulls through.

Let's spare a thought for Sean Abbot as well. Something like this can mentally effect you in the worst way possible.

Speechless...

RIP Phil and condolences to his family and friends. Very very sad day.

I have no words :'( , I'm in utter shock!

I really really thought that he would pull through this injury, sad day for sport overall.

RIP Phillip, my deepest condolences to his family!

I wonder how Sean Abbott must be feeling? Have to feel for the guy.

Been following and keeping him in my thoughts are prayers, can't believe he is gone. Remember seeing him in the recent Pak vs Aus series, sitting there and laughing with his team mates, such is life, you just never know what is going to happen next.

RIP Hughes. Very Tragic Day for Cricket World. We cannot image what his family is going through. We never think of sports to be fatal.

RIP phil.

Feel so bad for his mum and sister who were actually at the ground as well as for poor young abbott who was just doing his job and like phil was just in the wrong place at the wrong time when a freak accident occurred.

Devastating news. :((
I don't think even Abbott will be able to resume his career soon. Strength to him.

R.I.P.

Feeeling like crying... The feeling of when your close one goes away from you... RIP Phil!!! The saddest day in the history of cricket!

Very Sad Day for World Cricket . Hope this incident does not happen again and the Cricketing Establishment must work more harder to provide much more safety gear to the players so that such incidents are avoided in future .
Condolence to the family of Philiphs Huges and also to his Australian Team Mates .

A very sad for cricket. Hughes, you will be missed.

I feel bad for Abott, he must be devastated now.

Extremely sad news for cricket world and i still feel shocked even though he was in critical condition from the moment he was hit.

RIP young man :(

Oh no. didnt expect this. I was just waiting for the good news that he has recovered, everytime i checked the news.

I can never enjoy cricket any more. Saddest day in cricket.

Inna lillahi wa inna ilayhi raji'un (To Allah we belong and to Him shall we return).

Really heart-breaking that this should happen to a young man, in the prime of his life, just playing a game.

My thoughts and prayers go out to his family, so that they may endure this tragic loss.

RIP Phillip Joel Hughes.

:(

RIP My deepest condolences to his family and friends. Really feel for Abbott as well. Not sure what else to say. What a sad sad day :(

I am still in shock :( I can't imagine what everyone close to him must be going through. He was only 25. Gone too soon. RIP Hughes

So incredibly sad & tragic, you watch these guys on TV day in and day out any become attached to them, they become a part of your life.

Thoughts and prayers for the Hughes family, what a devastating loss.

RIP Hughesy.

Shocking news early in the day :( A life snatched away at such a tender age in a sport we love and cherish - unbelievable. Saddest day I have experienced as cricket fan without doubt.

RIP bro - may the good Lord grant your soul peace and rest. My most sincere condolences to Phillip's family, friends, the Australian national and domestic team members and the Australian fans. #LetThisNeverHappenAgain

RIP.. No words to describe how easy it is to lose someone. Was searching for his name on YouTube and saw him doing a video for cricket au on how to play a cut shot.. And just like that.. :(

Rest in peace Phillip Hughes.

Fully expected to hear positive news, this came as a shock. Very sad day for cricket.

Can't believe he's gone. We were just discussing yesterday how long will it take for him to come back to cricket. Don't think Sean Abbott will be able play cricket again. This must be the worst day in cricket history for any cricket lover. RIP Phil.

Profound shock and sadness. RIP mate - what a tragic end to a glittering young life.

One of the most hard-working and unorthodox batsmen in World Cricket. He deserved so much better, but even so, he left behind a mountain of runs and some glittering innings. Was looking forward to the inevitable time he would get his chance, score a big innings and never stop scoring.

RIP Philip Hughes.
