From what I have seen so far this series, that isn't going to happen.

You will see a painstaking slow 10-20 at best from Braithwaite.

A flashy 15- 30 from Barath.

And stylish 25 from Powell.
 
No way he should start the next test in England.

Assuming Gayle is still AWOL for the tests they will have to turn to Donovan Pagon or even Brendan Nash as opener if he continues scoring well for Kent in county cricket.

For the seamers at least, that seems to be the case. There was still turn out there for Shillingford; let's see what happens when Nathan Lyon comes on to bowl. 300+ was more than a decent opening gambit by Australia on this, still, I think.
 
Big spin still there and plenty of bounce. Looks like spinners should enjoy it alot.

Both teams could really have done better with 2 full time spinners on this wicket.
 
pitch has calmed down slightly but not completely. wade's innings could be THE difference.

So far in this series the promising young Darren Bravo has been dismissed by Mike "McGrath" Hussey and David "Shane" Warner. :facepalm:
 
Powell goes too. Awful batting by WI, where has the fight gone ? Batting worse than Zimbabwe right now.

The experiment of the inexperienced top order has totally failed. The WICB needs to beg Gayle, Sarwan, Nash, Dwayne Bravo back. England will annihilate this lot in English conditions if they play the same team.
 
feel truly sorry for shiv. played so well for a team with such pathetic batsmen even now.

Not a snowball's chance in hell for the Windies in this game, or the next series. It'll be a matter of seeing if they last 3 days, or 4. Our bowlers must be licking their lips at improving their averages even more.
 
Agree Ruri :( although just like BD and Zim, we can surprise you if you take us lightly. Plus, I believe the Chanderpaul factor keeps us one step or two ahead of the "minnow" Test teams. Without him we may be as bad as or worse than them with the bat (bowling is OKish).

I just want them to put up a fight against England, even if England win 3-0. :holding

No offense Wiggett. I am actually rather furious with the Windies myself, I wanted them to win a match against Australia, and I enjoy the sporadic bursts of brilliant bowling they display. But their bowling runs out of steam against tailenders (Which England does too at times, but we still skittle teams on average under 300 (for the past two-three years, first innings scores against England average under 300)). And how can you manage to do that when our last five consists of Prior, Broad, Bresnan, Swann, Anderson?

And which of these batsmen wont nick off to Anderson and Broad in the first ten overs because they played an injudicious shot? And when they do survive, 4 or 5 down before lunch or tea or whatever it might be, which of them wont collapse to Swann?

It's really frustrating, because I like the Windies (Third favorite team after NZ), and want to see them put up a fight. But my last memory of the Windies in England is them in Durham collapsing to swing bowling.

Windies stand no chance against Eng in Eng but to be fair most of the teams right now will fold easily against England in England. They're pretty strong in their backyard.
 
Gotta feel sorry for Chanderpaul, Poor guy has to carry the WI batting every time.

Just as I predicted. West Indies folding for under 200.

Aus will score 250 odd runs in the second innings which will leave the hosts to chase a target of 450 runs to chase.
Expect West Indies to fail miserably in the 2nd innings. Something never change. Where are the Richards/Greenidge's/Haynes's of yester years?? Why are they not able to develop batsmen of their calibre these days?

Its like Windies produced all their talent in a matter of 15years and after that it was all dark and gloom.

Not quite: there were some very good WI cricketers in the 1950s and '60s e.g. Ramadhin, Valentine, Hall, Worrell, Walcott, Weekes, Griffiths, Kallicharran... oh and that Bajun bloke, the allrounder LHB guy with the orange cat's name, he was reasonableish too. ;)

But of course we're a bit mediocre now. Still managed to steal a Test from Misbah's team, though, and no other Test team's managed that yet. :)
 
Well WI need to knock Oz over for 200 now.

So far that has been beyond them.
 
WI need to keep taking regular wickets though. Roach & Shillingford will need support soon.
 
Think we got this one now, weather permitting.

The WI have been unusually tenacious this series though
 
I give WI a 2 in 10 chance of winning IF they restrict oz to 350 lead.

More than that I just can't see them scoring.
 
Looking tough for the Windies. Some of the batsmen haven't done themselves any favours though. Still not sold on Cowan, and Twatto's had a shocker, though he just came back from injury. The attack has done ok considering half of them have had to go home due to injury.
 
This series hasn't had many big scores and for us no standout bowling.

So just proves we are better than them but not by much.

Congrats Shane on the first WI spinner's tenfer since Gibbs in 1966, but sadly we're probably going to lose this match, barring some incredible heroics and/or horrendous weather. :holding

Harsh call by Tony Hill but not a shocker according to Hawkeye. Decision stands on DRS.
 
Probably shouldn't have been given, if the umpires are seeking to remain consistent for both teams (WI had a number "more out" than that turned down).
 
Chanderpaul gone in the last over of the day to eliminate all hope of a WI draw/win.
 
Darren Sammy to score a match-winning 100*... brought up off only 55 balls of course. Well, one can dream. :) :viv

Aussie will win but I thought it would be by bigger margins.

Can't see WI winning a test in England.
 
If it wasnt for Shiv, the Aussies would have hammered W.I even more so in this series.

Pretty much the rest of W.I batting is seriously lame!

Aussies will wrap this series up 2-0 today.
 
Yeah, they cannot persist with the inexperience of Barath, Braithwaite, Powell and Bravo at the top of the order, or Baugh as keeper.

Kirk Edwards will come back in for Powell, but they need at least 1 new opener, Braithwaitte has to go. I think Nash could do it. They could try a domestic (Pagon or Fudadin).

As for keeper baugh has been dropping chances and not making any runs. Ramdin shoud regain his spot.
 
I don't think it will rain. I looked at the hourly forecast and the chance is minimal each hour (20%). Every other day of the test with 20% hourly chance it has not rained.

I don't think rain will save them. Nor do I think they can bat 90 overs with who is left. No chance.

Their only 1% chance is for Sammy to crash & wallop 80-100 and the rest squeak enough runs to win.

Meanwhile, on an unrelated note, I watched a [poor-quality YouTube] clip of Sammy's sevenfer against England on début at Old Trafford. He bowled some excellent deliveries, popping out Matt Prior and Liam Plunkett in successive deliveries. We even managed to make 392 batting last... in a losing cause of course. And then there was DJ Bravo knocking KP's loose helmet onto the stumps. :))) What a Test match!

That was a great match! English bowling at its too short leg-side spraygun all-time worst. Thank the lord we got rid of Harmison and Plunkett. Actually thought we were going to lose until the great Shiv got out on the last day.
 
If W.I actually had a decent 3rd seamer instead of Sammy and had run through the Aussies tail they would probably be looking at a series win here rather then usual defeat!

as their bowling has improved, with the addition of gayle, sarwan, nash(should be in the side imo) and dwayne bravo they'd start looking like a decent team....

Yeah, a Test average of 31 and economy of 2,8 rpo is total rubbish.

A lot of teams sometimes struggle with cleaning up the tail, not least Pakistan (which is still a pretty good bowling side generally even after the decimation of its fast bowling lineup after the cheats were excised). :misbah
 
2-0 flatters us but we'll take it.

Windies showed some real grit in this series, if they can find another quick and some half decent openers than their future looks a lot brighter.

Congrats to shiv as well, he's had to fight it out in so many losses and yet he never gives an inch series after series.
 
Kieron Powell has potential and Barath has already scored 100 against the Aussies before so it may be worth while sticking with them for a good time, assuming Gayle doesn't come back into contention, of course.

They'll probably get creamed in England anyway but I wish them the best and can only hope they give the Poms a challenge/scare at least.
 
Nash just scored a hundred for Kent in county cricket- they should have picked him in the squad. He would score more than Powell & Barath I bet.
