4-Day practice game between Australian Prime Minister's XI (367/4) & Pakistan (391/9) ends in a draw

What type of outfield is this? The ball is going like a turtle.

I saw a picture where both captain's were posing with a trophy, so there are trophies to be won in tour matches as well? Then this might be our best chance to win something on this tour :)

is there trophy for practice match

Once again Shan Masood smashing his haters just like he did at the World T20 last year. Best player of short ball in all Pakistan.
Let's hope he can carry his form into the real Test matches and lead from front IA.

Interestingly no one in this PM XI seem to have got good pace close to that of Cummins and Starc. The outfield and the pitch is on the slower side as well.

This is quite the opposite of conditions you will find on Perth.

Shan issues in test cricket for past 5 years are more mental than skills. Shan 2018 onwards has the skills to average 40 odd in test cricket but for some reason never translates his big FC scores in to test runs.

I think Shan was mostly troubled by spin and had unusually many soft dismissals while trying to be aggressive in home test series against England and NZ.
Otherwise technically he is a pretty decent batsman. Should look to score 40-45 runs under his belt then look to be aggressive if he wants to.

Abdullah, Babar, Shan and Faheem. These are the best batters for Australian conditions. Haven't seen Saim much so can't say.

And our stupid team will welcome easy conditions for tour matches with open arms.

Yeah I agree somewhat. His career should have at least taken off after that SA tour in 2018/19 and he should have gained immense confidence after that.

Was the new ball taken at the 80 over mark? Would like to see how our fasting bowling all rounders and the tail does against the newer ball.

He’s such an odd case because his technique seems pretty solid, he scores bucket loads in domestic cricket, but he just hasn’t been able to make it work at the international level - really in any format.

In a way, he’s earned his spot back in the team on multiple occasions, but how many chances should someone get at the international level until it’s determined that they can’t cut it at that level - even if they score bucket loads of runs in domestic cricket?

Yeah Shan is a really odd case he really ticks all the other boxes and if a guy like him can crack it at the top level it will do a world of good for Pakistan cricket but his main job which is to make runs he never does that to an even acceptable level.

Yeah at the end of the day, you have to score runs in international cricket and only that counts. But even Andy Fower rated him while he was his coach in the PSL. And it's easy to see why. Strong off either foot but particularly against short ball and also fleet-footed against spin as well, good fitness, pretty intelligent and knows what he needs to work on etc.

PCB should get him into the coaching/administration setup after retirement. Even if he couldn't make it as a cricketer, I feel he can add a lot more behind the scenes

Lovely scores from quite a few: 38, 9, 40, 13, 41, 17

7.5/10 type of day

Prime Minister Anthony Albanese presents baggy caps to hosts as Pakistan wins Toss in Mauka Oval

In a historic moment at Mauka Oval, Prime Minister Anthony Albanese of Australia presented the iconic green baggy caps to the Prime Minister's XI players just before the commencement of their highly anticipated four-day first-class match against Pakistan. The ceremony was marked by camaraderie as both teams came together for a group photo, setting the stage for an exciting cricket showdown.

Amid the picturesque setting, Prime Minister Albanese took center stage as he flipped the coin toss. Pakistan emerged victorious, winning the toss and opting to bat first on the opening day of the four-day encounter.

As the action unfolded on the field, Abdullah Shafiq and Imam ul Haq stepped up to open the innings for Pakistan, facing the formidable bowling attack led by Mark Steketee and Nathan McAndrew from the host side. The crowd was treated to an intense battle between bat and ball, with both teams showcasing their skills and determination.

The Mauka Oval echoed with cheers and applause as the players displayed their prowess, creating an electric atmosphere for cricket enthusiasts and fans alike.

Looking ahead, the visiting Pakistan squad is gearing up for their next challenge as they prepare to travel to Perth from Canberra on December 10. The journey will mark the beginning of a three-match Test series against Australia, promising more high-stakes cricket action for fans eagerly following the international competition.

Shan Masood finishes unbeaten on 156 as Pakistan’s batters start their tour of Australia brightly in Canberra

New Pakistan captain Shan Masood has fired a warning shot to Australia's bowling corps with a brilliant unbeaten century in their tour match in Canberra.

Against the Prime Minister's XI at Manuka Oval, Masood made a big statement in his first innings since assuming the captaincy, stylishly cruising to 156 not out.

He brought up his century with a clever sweep off Todd Murphy's bowling in Wednesday's final session and opened his shoulders late, with Sarfaraz Ahmed (41) and Babar Azam (40) helping Pakistan finish day one at 6-324.

South Australian speedster Jordan Buckingham was the pick of the PM's XI bowlers and finished with 3-63 off 17 overs, just days after being called into the side to replace injured Michael Neser.

But cheap wickets prevented the tourists from an even more dominant day with the bat, with Manuka's flat pitch and hot conditions offering little respite for bowlers.

Star man Babar tickled a Buckingham delivery down the leg side and into the gloves of keeper Jimmy Peirson after a 92-run stand with Masood.

They'd earlier lost opener Adbullah Shafique (38) in similarly soft fashion, lazily pushing a Mark Steketee (1-43) delivery to short cover.

Saud Shakeel (13) was another to fall without much resistance, chopping on to Murphy.

The soft dismissals were not what the side needed as they prepare to face world Test champions Australia in Perth starting next week.

Buckingham removed other opener Imam-ul-Haq for nine, with a beautiful delivery that jagged back off a length and found an inside edge.

Six-Test spinner Murphy (1-90 off 22 overs) wasn't at his best, bowling too short at times.

Masood, who was handed the leadership in the wake of Pakistan's World Cup exit last month, looked extremely determined throughout his knock and barely celebrated after passing 100 or 150.

Earlier, the battle to become Australia's next Test opener was put on hold when Masood won the toss and chose to bat.

The three-way 'bat-off' between Marcus Harris, Cameron Bancroft and Matt Renshaw is set to highlight the clash, with each a contender to take David Warner's spot once the veteran opener retires following the three-Test Pakistan series.

Bancroft, who tops the Marsh Sheffield Shield runs tally this season, will open for the PM's side with Harris, who has played 14 Tests for Australia.

Renshaw was selected earlier this year for the Test series in India, but has not opened for the national team since 2018.

Pakistan named the same top six that played in their most recent Test, against Sri Lanka in July, but have unleashed uncapped bowling duo Aamer Jamal and Khurram Shahzad.

Star quick Shaheen Shah Afridi has been rested.

Amir Jamal is more of a slogger rather than a proper all-rounder. His skills will be tested tomorrow when the day 2 will start.

I really want to see Shan flourish both as a batsman and a captain. He ticks all the right boxes, educated, level headed..... a good representative for the national team. Inbetween all the paindus & parchis with big egos, the guy is a breath of fresh air. Sometimes I feel it's his confidence that's the issue, he overcomes that barrier he'll really prove his worth.

Not a bad days practice.
By all accounts outfield was slow so we have made around 370 when you adjust for that. Have lost 2 more wickets than I would have liked.
In Aus on first day you have to be 340-4 on the first day, ans carry on the next day.
300-6 and 320-7 are not good scores
We have to be looking at 450+ first innings MINIMUM

Not all boxes are ticked until now. The batting box is still pretty much blank. This tour could be his redemption time. Having a good outing in the 4-day game against PM IX.

Imam ul haq is a liability...Instead of this nepotistic selection, pak should play saim ayub.
And if pakistan is so admant on playing sarfaraz, he should be replacing abdullah shafique not rizwan.

Babar has gotten dismissed quite a few times recently by feathering it down the leg side. Australia will keep a leg slip against him.

Abdullah Shafique in an interview on stumps on day 1 during Pakistans warm-up game against the Prime Ministers XI:

“Absolutely. The first day was quite good if we talk about batting. Our captain played a calm and composed innings, from which we learned a lot and became better batters.”

“Indeed, how you start matters a lot. As a batting unit, we have made a significant impact. We will strive to perform well in the remaining days of the match.”

“The conditions were a bit hot, and the outfield was slow. Besides, the conditions were a bit challenging for batting at the start. But after that, the wicket played well, and our batsmen also played well. We will definitely try to set a good target because Shan is also playing well, and we will try to get him out at a low score.”

“Absolutely. When we go on a tour, preparation matters a lot. Like the conditions in Australia, we have the opportunity to come here and play. This is a very good thing for our preparation because of the situation we have to face in the matches. We will start facing it from now on so that our match preparation will be very good.”

“When you are set and get out, it hurts a lot. So the effort is that next time, whenever I get a little set, I try to play a good inning so that the team also benefits.”

Just watched the highlights. It looks more like slow deck from Ahmedabad WC final.
Hardly a preparation for what they'll face next week

Yep very true. This pitch is not actually the true representation of what Pakistani Batters are going to play on in Perth.

That is the old trick from the host. Lesser opposition, pitch to touring party's likings in practice match but getting the opposite in real match.

Pakistan should have played at least 3 practice matches.

That is what we have been saying. Pakistan Team should have been there 2 weeks ago and play couple of matches on those pitches. Instead, they chose to waste time on Pakistani concrete pitches which have nothing to offer.

Shan Masood should get out and and go back to the pavilion, instead of batting longer and giving the AUssie analysts more time to analyze him.

He will be brutally exposed in the Test Series. Mark my worlds.
He should just see the pitch, the bowlers, the conditions, and go back... not bat all day and let the opposition analyze him inside out.
" he will be brutally exposed in test , mark my words " You couldn't say anything positive about Shaan even after he scored a very good century and no one else passed 50 ??

Ironically the Pindi practice session games had more bounce and fast outfield than this warm up game.

This is not a proper australian wicket with pace or bounce.

Look forward to Perth test against the proper aussie test team .

I Commend Shan Masood for his outstanding achievement of scoring a century against Prime Minister's XI. He has truly played a master stroke of an innings that has sent tremors through the hearts of the Australian Cricket Team. The rest of the squad should take notes from him and elevate their performance.

He has begun his Test captaincy with a resounding success, validating PCB's decision to entrust him with leadership responsibilities.

Delighted to observe the improved performance of the batsmen after taking inspiration from Shan Masood. This bodes exceptionally well for the upcoming test series.

If you were to pick a bowling attack from this squad right now for 1st test what it would be? Share your thought process also if possible.

I'm interested to know what everyone's thinking now and how that thinking will change after this warm up game.

Playing a warm up game at this venue in prep for Perth etc.. is just wrong.

This pitch will not help team acclimatise

My 5 bowlers regardless of pitch and conditions are:
Shaheen
Hasan
Aamer
Abrar
Noman

My bowling strategy is based on ensuring Aussies dont score more than 3 to 3.5 runs an over.

That is our best chance really.

Well for starters, Shaheen will be in obviously. Good idea to rest him for this game. After him, all the other options are mediocre, but I'd go with Mir Hamza and Mo Wasim as the other main pacers, with Faheem as the fourth. Or Aamer Jamal depending on how he bats on Day 2. Abrar and Agha as spin options.

Thought process being, Mir is the tallest of the lot after Shaheen and hoping for him to extract swing and bounce on the Perth surface. Khurram hasn't played an international game yet and with his height and lack of pace, he will look very unthreatening to the Aussies. Mo Wasim will give you a few more runs and some reverse swing and he's the quickest of the Pak pacers on this tour. He could be handy for 3-4 over bursts through the innings.

A fourth pacer (all-rounder) should be included imo but both options don't give a lot of hope. Depends on whoever is in better batting form. However, I'd prefer Jamal for his higher pace. I don't remember the last time Faheem ever looked threatening if he ever did. Jamal will add an x-factor.

I'd only have one specialist spinner for the first test and I'd take Abrar over Noman. I see Noman being very ineffective in Australia and especially at Perth. But hope to be proven wrong and hope to see him in action in Sydney.

Agha should be in the team in the place of Imam. Will provide a few overs and more runs. Imam will suffer against the new ball at Perth.

So this is interesting that on a Perth pitch you've gone with basically 3 pacers and 2 spinners. Why is that though? How does this combination ensure Australia don't score at an aggressive run rate?

Abdullah Shafique is a talented player.Sarfraz is at the the fag end of his career.Shafique can play for another 10-13 years. He shouldn’t be dropped.

I am thinking out of the box here. Our pacers have been pathetic in Australia. So might as well go with an economical Noman.

Australia playing trick on us. Practice match on slow low bounce and all of sudden bouncy wicket in Perth for. Our worm welcome. useless practice match..

Let's see how it unfolds, this time, our batting lineup is looking decent.

Test 11 should be
-Abdullah
Shaan
Babar
Rizwan
Saud
Sarfraz
Aamer
Wasim Jr
Shaheen
Hasan
Abrar

Kohli in South Africa as captain decided to skip the practice games and instead made the team do extra practice sessions on the pacy, bouncy wickets. Pakistan should have taken a similar approach. We have always done well in our practice games in Australia only to struggle badly in the test matches.

Amer Jamal is looking good, at least better than Fahim Ashraf.

Shan masood should score a double here.

So good that he made 5 runs off 34 balls.

This pitch and outfield makes you feel like they are playing in Abu Dhabi. Absolutely not at all what Pakistan will face in Perth.

This is why getting to Australia and properly preparing on their pitches and playing multiple FC matches are important. Heck, you could have just brought your A team and faced against them if Australia wasn't able to provide you with a team to face. At least then your A team gets experience in Australian conditions too for the future.

Right after I admired him, he got out on the very next ball.

I take my words back "Faheem Asharf is still better than Amir Jamal" :D
People don't like faheem but his batting is miles better than our so called all rounders. I am not a fan of faheem but he's the best out of this worst bunch.

Seems like our tail enders or so called all rounders have never faced a short bowl in their career. Absolute horrible batting against short bowl on this pitch which is similar to uae. I wonder what would they do on proper Australian pitches.

Aamer Jamal needs time. They keep dropping new prospects after one game.

Babar dropped him after a match winning bowling performance lmao. His confidence is shaken.

Give him 3 series and he will win 2 of them at least, In Sha Allah :kakmal

Except he did play the next game and he got smashed for 30 runs in 2 overs.

6th T20 vs England: https://www.espncricinfo.com/series...an-vs-england-6th-t20i-1327233/full-scorecard

5th T20 you are referring to that Jamal defended in the last over: https://www.espncricinfo.com/series...an-vs-england-5th-t20i-1327232/full-scorecard

He is a bowling all-rounder & Faheem is a batting all-rounder. If Pakistan had a strong batting lineup, Jamal at #7 and having as that 4th pacer would be great but his domestic track record overall is pretty poor and he is 27 years old right now. If he hasn't been able to improve his batting much up to this point, it's hard to expect significant steps being made towards the batting department.

They declared the innings after that run out. Looking forward to see how some of these guys bowl!

Also, good innings by Shan. I hope he continues this form to the actual Test matches. If he’s in form like this, then Shan and Babar at #3 and #4 will be very important for our batting lineup.

I think Australia and Pakistan pitches are extremely contrasting. Total polar opposite. Pakistani pitches are slowest and lowest bounce pitches in whole world even slower than UAE. While Australian pitches are the fastest in the world.

He has nothing special, he was part of asian games recently along with Haider, Asif and Khushdil. Lost to Afg as well as Bangladesh.
