4-Day practice game between Australian Prime Minister's XI (367/4) & Pakistan (391/9) ends in a draw

FOUR Day Match 6-9 Dec at Manuka Oval

Pakistan vs Prime Minister's XI

DAY 2- Lunch

Pakistan First innings: 391-9 d in 115 overs, Shan Masood 201 not out, Sarfraz Ahmad 41,Babar Azam 40, Abdullah Shafique 38. Jordan Bukingham 5-80,Mark Steketee 1-58

Toothless bowling Shaheen wasim Jr abrar are automatic starter it's a race between mir and khurram

ATM, no bowler has looked that threatening as PM IX has scored 43 runs without any loss of wicket. Bowlers are not swinging it that much.

So business as usual as per the last 10 years or so.

Able to reach 300 or so but then concede 400+.

Our test batting is underrated and bowling is incredibly overrated.

Waste of a game due to this awful pitch.

Edges are bouncing 3 times before reaching fielders.

At tea Break, PM IX scored 72/0. Bowling from Pakistan looks toothless here. cannot take wicket early.

Australian pitches for the most part are super flat with a bit of bounce to offer for pacers. Swing bowlers will find it hard to buy any help there.

Pakistan does not have any hit the deck kind of bowlers. This is where Aussies come on top over their opposition.

Pakistan batting should have scored over 500. I know it’s a practice match, but 391/9 is a poor effort on a lifeless pitch against an ordinary PMXI attack.

Faheem ashraf can go on an economic run but he has not tranformed himself into a wicket taking bowler. Too early to say this for other like hamza and khurram.

Sameen Gul and Arshad Iqbal would have been ideal for these pitches. They are both tall and hit the deck hard. Get good seam movement.

Abrar has his first scalp on Australian Soil. PM IX lost its first wicket for 96.

Pakistan's run rate was healthy i.e. 3.36 while Australian batsman are playing very slow... RR is just 2.64

A shame both Naseem & Ihsanullah are both injured. Series could have competitive with a Shaheen/Naseem/Ihsanullah/Abrar & Faheem or Jamal bowling attack.

But alas, it remains completely toothless. It just shows the quality level of our domestic where a player like Mir Hamza can top wickets charts domestically year after year and has a whopping 400+ wickets in FC and is still a completely rubbish bower. Disappointing stuff.

Pakistani Bowlers should tighten the screws more now. Should try to bundle this side out for less than 250.

If Pakistan somehow reach 300 in Perth, that would be a huge accomplishment.

Khurram is among the wickets now as he got Cameron bancroft plumb infront of wicket. PM IX 2 down now.

Last time, we gave pm xi quite a thrashing bundling them for 120 odd in their second innings with Imran Khan Snr bowling like Marshall. So even if we do well here it tells us next to nothing.

Khurram looks a decent test prospect 135 plus pace a little bit of seam and swing movement and most importantly ability to be accurate with line and length

PM IX has scored 130/2 till now. Some good tight lines have been bowled by the Pakistani bowlers which is good to see.

Yeah early days but the thing that has impressed me is most bowlers have let it tight not much freebies

Keep bowling that good length channel and stop giving freebies and here you go. Perfect plan to get a wicket.

So Pakistan team is experimenting with Babar and now with Saud as the part-time spin options.

Run-rate of 2.48 for PM IX as they have scored 149/2 in 60 overs till now. Good line and length being shown by Pakistani bowlers. Well done.

Prime Minister's XI trail by 242 runs after Shan Masood hits his third first-class double ton on second day

Canberra, 7 December 2023: The second day of the four-day game against Prime Minister’s XI at Manuka Oval in Canberra saw Prime Minister’s XI post 149-2 in 60 overs after Pakistan declared their innings at 391-9.

Pakistan captain Shan Masood resumed from his overnight tally of 156 to add 45 more runs to his score, reaching his third first-class double hundred. He ended with an unbeaten 201 from 298 deliveries, including 14 boundaries and a maximum.

Right-arm fast bowler Jordan Buckingham, who had taken three wickets the previous day, struck twice today to complete a five-wicket haul. He removed Aamir Jamal and Mir Hamza, who both went out cheaply.

Shan declared the innings after Khurram Shahzad was run out courtesy of a direct hit by Nathan McSweeney, with the scorecard reading 391-9 in 116.2 overs.

In return, Prime Minister’s XI opening duo of Cameron Bancroft (53, 128b, 3x4s) and Marcus Harris (49, 102b, 6x4s) put up a 96-run stand to give their team a solid start.

Abrar Ahmed provided the breakthrough for Pakistan, dismissing Harris in the 36th over. Right-arm pacer Khurram Shahzad trapped Bancroft LBW to provide Pakistan the second wicket.

Cameron Green (18 not out, 71b, 2x4s) and Matt Renshaw (19 not out, 60b, 1x4) batted together to add 37 more runs to take the total to 149-2 at stumps, with the side trailing by 242.

The third day’s play at Manuka Oval will resume on 0430 PKT.

Scores in brief:

Prime Minister’s XI 149-2, 60 overs (Cameron Bancroft 53, Marcus Harris 49; Khurram Shahzad 1-23, Abrar Ahmed 1-54)

i think we were definately never going to get 20 wickets on this tour..it is all about how many days we can last and avoid the defeat i am afraid. Shaheen i understand but i have a feeling Hasan Ali and wasim junior will be starting along with chacha nauman which is all criminal but then again they dont have anybody ...

It will be criminal to play Noman ahead of Abrar. It would be best if Abrar, Shaheen, and Khurram are there. Need to discuss the 3rd seamer and may be another fast-bowling all-rounder.

Faheem will play. They need someone who can bat at no. 7 and Faheem is the best batter among all pacers

I think that our lineup is pretty close to set for the first Test.

Imam, Abdullah, Shan, Babar, Saud, Sarfraz, Faheem, Hasan Ali, Shaheen Shah, Abrar Ahmed

This is the 10 that I think will definitely play the first game, and then I think we’ll add either Mohammad Wasim Jr or Khurram Shahzad.

I wish that we could go a bit more experimental though, I’d like our top 6 to see Imam dropped and Rizwan added considering the conditions we are playing in. Shan could be moved up to open.

I've seen way too many of these aus tours. We never ever plan for them. We barely plan for world cups. Considering our garbage record there we should make it a mission to do well there..

But alas as the years have gone by our cricket has deteriorated like the country. The sport is a reflection of the nation.

To my young brothers here my advice would be to look for small victories. A good session. A younger player doing well. Or maybe one or two batters getting a big partnership

If we can get a draw in any match that should be treated like a win.

I expect 3-0..for me a highlight would be three hard fought matches..

Alas I suspect we will see three 4 day matches. Our top scorer will most likely be a surprise..maybe a faheem lol..

As for the bowlers I can't see us picking up 20 wickets..

I think looks good to get the 2nd pacer spot along with Shaheen. Hassan or Wasim will get the 3rd pacer spot , I hope they go for Waseem due to extra pace but Hassan might play due to more experience

I'd play 4 seamers- Shaheen, Hasan, Wasim and Jamal and a spinner in Abrar.

Wasim and Jamal can contribute small runs with bat so will add a bit of balance. Plus both have a bit more pace than Hamza and Khurram.

I don't think Khurram or Hamza as bowlers are any significant upgrades over Wasim and Jamal, hence my choice.

Yes, Pakistan is unpredictable, and this time, I hope they can put up a fight until the last day of the Test.

PCB should have selected Sameen Gul and Arshad Iqbal instead of Hamza and Shahzad.

Mir Hamza is looking toothless with this pace.

Pakistan needs some fiery fast bowlers if they want to take wickets in this series.

Mohammad Wasim could be a better option, I guess!

If only one of faheem or Jamal were performing in both aspects. Faheem looks innocuous with the ball. Jamal was clueless with the bat.

Have the pacers forgotten how to bowl?
No. Their results simply reflect their level. These domestic bosses who bowl to below-average batsmen were never going to succeed against the Aussies. I don't even know what someone like Faheem is doing in the squad. His bowling is low division club level.

Not much bowling quality on display.

Khurram seems like a good fit for the holding role in the bowling attack. Faheem seems to be bowling better than Ahmed, which should also push him forward for that all-rounder spot.

I guess it's going to be...

Shaheen Afridi
Hasan Ali
Khurram
Abrar Ahmed
Faheem

If Shaheen is not at the top of his game, this will be carnage.

I am imagining a proper whooping. :dw

Faheem Ashraf has got the wicket of Cameron Green on the 3rd day is in progress atm.
The score of PM IX is 251/3. This bowling line-up is not doing any good job ATM. They need to take wickets or else this team is going nowhere.

Bar Amir Asif none of our pacers looked threatening during recent Aus tours, given the scarcity of quality bowlers we have there is no time for experiment if we want a respectable scoreline. SSA Hasan Wasim Abrar Faheem should start

looks like prime minister 11 want to break down Pakistan even before real match that why they batting this slow

ATM, this bowling is looking like some club-level bowlers. Totally clueless against county-level teams and have not even dominated a single session in blowing yet.

Apart from Khurram no one has raised their hand that they are up for it

PM IX is going strong at 297/3. Matt Renshaw is nearing a hundred now.

long before the seagulls fly, welcome to real cricket , lets see what Director Pakistan cricket has left now

That trundler Khurram ahead of Wasim Jr ??

At tea break, PM IX scored 300/3 with matt rehshaw on 99.

Pakistani bowling display has been poor so far. No real vemon in this line up

After the Tea break, PM IX continued their innings and Matt Renshaw also reached the triple figures.

That trundler Khurram ahead of Wasim Jr ??

Ideally, the third bowler should be a more defensive line and length option.

Wasim Jr might get tonked all over the place and only make things worse. However, he's a better option if they feel reverse swing is going to come into play later.

To be fair, it's all bad when looking at these options. :moha

Shaheen and Naseem both have terrible test records against quality opposition so there's nothing to suggest this series would have even been remotely competitive even if we had Naseem and Ihsanullah

Should Pakistan be playing warmup on this slow and flat deck? It's not like the conditions are going to be similar in Perth

P much as expected. Decent to good batting and awful bowling.

Wonder why everyone is surprised.

Read on twitter that Sarfraz has dropped 3 catches in this innings.

I know he was great against NZ as a batsman but his keeping was Kamran Akmal level. He should be nowhere near the team

An unexpected thing has happened as Imam has taken the wicket of Nathan McSweeney. PM IX is 4 down for 324.
No body was expecting that Imam will join the party and take a wicket. LOL

Although it was a nothing delivery TBH, but a wicket is a wicket. Well done Hamza.

very disappointing stuff from Abrar he was supposed to be the mystery spinner but it seems like even FC players are reading him easily.

His fans continue to stubbornly support him as if he is Gilchrist.

Can’t accept that he’s done and dusted. Will come good on slow pitches as he is the only good player of spin.

But his fitness has fallen off since the end of his captaincy stint (he did the same quality of keeping before he was removed from ODIs)

Give the guy a break.

First international tour

He is not expected to run through line-ups like that.

Some glimpses from Day 3 of the 4-day tour game between Pakistan and PM IX. Imam looks happy after taking a wicket.

Yeah Abrar has been good better than Murphy who is highly rated . It’s the pacers and the all rounders who have looked average

Those who rate Abrar too highly are in for a rude awakening. He is nowhere near that good. He's a mystery spinner without the pace to rush batters. Lol at anyone who thinks he would have made any difference to PAK's World Cup campaign. Called it on his debut, England played stupid shots.

This guy neither gets enough revs on the ball to beat batters in flight nor does he have the speed for a decent mystey spinner.

Such a bad pitch. Reminds me of one of those bad pitches we've had in Pakistan. But at least the outfield was quicker.
