What's new

71 years since Indian Annexation of Hyderabad!

Nobody is asking Hyderabad to join Pakistan.

The point is just to show your country, India’s, hypocrisy.

When they saw a state whose rulers wanted to go independent they decided to annex it since the population was largely hindu and perhaps wanted to be part of India. However your countrymen do not agree to this logic when it comes to Kashmir when it is EXACTLY the same situation

There is no hypocrisy. Both Hyderabad and Kashmir signed the instrument of accession with India. They are part of India. Period. All other ifs, buts etc is of no consequence.

All those pictures are from the local Hyderabad edition of the newspaper "Sakshi".

You mentioned you lived there - I am actually from there - before I left Hyderabad for good.

By Indian standards it's perhaps a decent city - but when you use the word "beautiful" and "modern" that is a long stretch.

Lets take the example of "Tank Bund- Hussain Sagar" - the so called beautiful lake bang in the middle of the city. It will probably rank as the filthiest lake in India. And every year they continue to immerse Ganesh idols which further pollutes the already polluted lake.

I'd be curious to find out which parts of Hyderabad you lived in?

Hyderabad is huge - of course there are parts that are good. But that is just a sliver of the fact.

If you can read Telugu - please go through the "local editions" of the newspapers - it is filled with civic problems in Hyderabad.

It’s not decent, it’s beautiful:). Yes the Hussain Sagar lake stinks. That won’t change until the attitude of the people and authorities change. But the NTR Gardens nearby is beautiful. The area around Osmania university is also very green.

I lived in Somajiguda. No man I can’t read Telugu. It is a modern city. I don’t understand why you think it’s not.

I’m not saying the streets there have Europe level cleanliness. But it has a different feel to it. It’s a very charming city and has a soul of its own.

Just want to clarify that you are absolutely entitled to your views on Hyderabad. My opinion of Hyderabad comes from a place of pain since I am actually a Hyderabadi.

Hyderabad used to be this really beautiful, pretty, laid back city where the population was low, the weather was great - that was my memory when I was a kid.

And then gradually the city began to change especially after a certain Chief Minister N. Chandra Babu Naidu - the guy ushered in some pretty dramatic changes specifically in the IT sector. Parts of Hyderabad truly changed beyond recognition. And certain sections of middle class Hyderabadi families benefitted from the IT boom - and they got catapulted to upper middle class.

But it also led to severe income inequalities and very lopsided infrastructure development.

Overall, I agree with you - within India Hyderabad will rank among the top 3 cities when it comes to living standards. Most of my North Indian and Maharashtrian friends would rather live in Hyderabad than in Delhi or Mumbai.

The recent introduction of the metro train is a much needed development as it has succeeded in taking off thousands of people off the much congested Hyderabadi roads.

I am actually looking forward to my visit to Hyderabad next month when I will be there to see my family.

Many Pakistanis are actually if you care to see it on Facebook. As for India's hypocrisy and lies it is everywhere hence all the freedom movements there. What do you mean "your countrymen" by the way? See Deccan Hyderabad deserves this humiliation for not joining Pakistan so let the people live with it now. Had the Nizam not pondered like he did they'd be part of our country now. I have this problem with all Indian Muslims who then refused to migrate and now expect sympathy from Pak people. They are getting nothing from me at all!
