After serving Indian cuisine in London for over a decade and a half, Hammersmith-based restaurant Rangrez is set to close its doors next month. Owner Harman Singh Kapoor announced the decision on social media, citing mounting operational costs, safety concerns, harassment and repeated disturbances as reasons behind the shutdown.

"After 16 unforgettable years, I've made the difficult decision to close Rangrez restaurant Hammersmith next month," Kapoor wrote.

He added, "Rising costs, ongoing online harassment, repeated disturbances and attacks by Pakistanis and a lack of proper support from the Met Police have made it impossible to continue."

Kapoor, who runs the restaurant with his wife, thanked customers for their support over the years and said he now intends to shift his focus toward activism.

"Radicals should keep this in mind: you can disrupt my business, but not my will. I'm coming after you stronger now, with no strings attached."

Threats, disturbances and earlier controversy

The closure comes amid past tensions and alleged threats. Kapoor had earlier claimed that his restaurant was targeted after he posted videos criticising the Khalistan movement. In 2023, he alleged that the establishment was attacked days after vandalism at the Indian High Commission in London.

At the time, he said his family received death threats, abusive calls and online intimidation, and questioned the response of authorities. UK police later stated that officers had engaged with the complainant, reviewed CCTV footage and offered safeguarding measures. Kapoor, however, maintained that those responsible were not apprehended and that safety concerns persisted

Online reactions: support and criticism

The announcement sparked a wide range of reactions on social media, with many expressing support while others criticised the owner.

One user wrote, "Sorry to hear this, Harman. I have had the delight of visiting Rangrez in Hammersmith & the food was fine. Not sure why people left bad reviews."

Another commented, "It's always sad when things like this happen, but I admire your resilience and never ever give up I certainly hope you come back from all of this much stronger.”

At the same time, an individual criticised, "I believe the issue is the owner. Anyone can go read the glowing reviews: ZERO Stars. Despite high prices suggesting a quality experience, the food was extremely disappointing. But don't tell me, it's EVERYONE else's fault, typical immigrant rebuttal - it wasn't me!"

Can’t believe this joker made it into the papers.

The reality is he tried to pander to anti-Muslim groups, including Tommy Robinson and his lot, but they weren’t interested.

Lesson to be learnt @Rajdeep

This Sikh guy was saying this was his country and Muslims should leave UK. What an entitled fella! LMAO.

Who does he think he is? Does he think he is a native white Englishman? :inti

He himself should leave UK and live in India. His sanghi mentality is unlikely to work in UK (or any other country outside of India).

This is very strange. All my Hindu friends actually buy their chicken and meat from halal shops here in the US.

This guy must come from some rare stock

Absolutely, there are so many Hindu Customers at almost all (if not all Halal) shops.

Many have separate equipment (for beef) advertised for that purpose.

A lot of the franchise shops here are moving to halal meat, even certain kfc are halal - thr not even in a muslim area, all of jollibee and popeyes are halal here

I went through this guy's Twitter page. Filthy tweets. Almost all are anti-Muslim propagandas.

Very glad his business closed down. He is also unlikely to do well with future projects with this approach.

I saw the above in the news 2 days ago= indian news, he also didnt had issues with pro khalistan supporters:

We don’t know what has lead this Sikh bloke to reach the stage where he wants to ban Halal food in UK lol

I think Sikh’s in the restaurant business have it very tough because they can’t just sell Halal meat as their own community is strictly against it. It’s nothing personal, that’s just their religion. You got to respect that.

If Pakistanis in london had a problem, they shouldn’t even be going to his restaurant in the first place. There are hundreds of top Asian restaurants, most which are Halal in london besides some Rangrez lol.

I feel for this guy if he’s been shafted by rubbish reviews lol

why would muslims tell indians to sell halal food, i live in UK, and most indians food places dont sell it - and pakistani dont trust eating meat from any indian other than indian muslim,

many indian and nepalese foods places will say they are halal but thr not - ask ppl like @Mas-LFC @KingKhanWC - if they would trust a indian selling halal meat, thrs tensions between the two communities - considering the biggest voters for the conservative party here are the indians - around 70% indian votes

Khallis are against India, Sikhs and Hindus in general. Their hateful posts against India and Hindus eerily resemble the same words that many Pakistanis use for Indians in social media.
This Sikh man seems to be a patriot and wants no part of Khalistani propaganda. Ni wonder he got death threats. It’s a shame that he had to close the restaurant in London which is a first world developed liberal city. Just shows how far things have fallen there.

Imagine if a Muslim restaurant closed its business in India due to death threats. You will be crying blood day and night banging your head on the table. :dw :mv

But the reason his restaurant closed was because he wanted to impress tommy robinson and his kind but they didn't turn up to eat at his restraunt

You can't blame the Pakistanis for that 🤣🤣

I've taken heed to the reviews with pictures. Trust me going by the feedback and the visuals, the food looks substandard.

Bro I think his main target clientele is upper middle class white, and Indians who are more white wannabes than they are traditional. For them, they Will happily eat that substandard Desi restaurant food as long as it’s with their drinks. It’s more about location I suppose and Hammersmith is a solid location.

Pakistanis rarely go to these sort of restaurants unless they are trying to impress.

Not sure what this bloke has done

heres his tripadvisor reviews - most 1 star are from non muslims:

I know these type of restaurants. Back in the day, I lived out in Southampton for uni. All the white students there loved this Indian resturant called Tariq Manzils, which was owned by some Bengali dude. I had it once and it was the worst Desi food I had tasted, so I know exactly what you mean with all these substandard Indian restaurants. Sadly they're everywhere here and they're only popular because they sell sharab.

Pakistanis rarely go to these sort of restaurants unless they are trying to impress some non Asian chick from work.

Not sure what this bloke has done to pi$$ off Pakistanis

He's a Tommy Robinson supporter. Openly Islamophobic when he's attending his rallies and on X.

Halal is pure. Halal is the way. Halal forever.

Let them try to ban it. 3 million muslims in UK and growing. Nothing but an uproar and will bring the Liebour government down. Am sure anti liebour goras will join in with us too.

Sikhs mostly eat Jhatka in India , Hindus in US eat halaal esp south Indians because everyone is used to it as South India mostly has halal.

West Delhi , Panjab mostly have Jhatka meat.

Most Sikhs are Veggies. According to Google, 59% of Sikhs are pure veggies. No wonder Punjab ranks among the highest vegetarians in India.

Isn’t he an Afghan Sikh?

He’s been on social media since a long time for his Anti Khalistan views

He attends Tommy Robinson rallies and makes videos there posting all sorts of rubbish.

Funny thing was he had a video before he turned into a British First guy where he was getting his shoes shined and was talking about how it feels to have a gor@ shining his shoes.

Weird dude. When owner is so much of a rage baiter even decent white people will refrain from going down that they don't get tarnished with the same brush if someone sees them

MCdonalds also sells haram food and no apnay are leaving them bad reviews despite boycotting them.

Many of these British First dudes are grifters who make up lies and get public donations. He is one of them too.

I was talking about the ones who eat.. Amritdhari Sikhs don’t eat meat.
And sikhs that do eat meat eat a lot of it compared to others.
Also Sikhs are only 58% In panjab.. they have Hindus and Jains that are vegetarian.

I have already posted about this in British Pakistani thread. The issue with Pakistanis in UK is that they think every brown skin person should follow their ideology. They must attend Pro Palestine rally, deface Chuchil statue, eat Halal food, call out every patriot as racist, do whataboutery etc etc. So the moment they see any so called 'apney' is not following these, they start attacking them or calling names. You can see in this thread only....how many times I have been tagged. The fact that a brown skin person can also have a different ideology, attend right wing rallies and dont cater to them is a concept alien for some.

Here is the news for you all - we Hindus and some Sikhs may have commom skin color but we are totally different from muslims. There is nothing called Asian community. You are Pakistani muslims and we are Indian hindus. We are polar opposite...so pls spare us the apney concept. We dont want to take the blame for Child grooming or terrorism.

Bro just for clarification nobody is tagging you because we want you to be apna or protest lol.

They tagging you because they think you are the bankrupt Singh begging for money.

It's important you address that allegation instead of deflecting.

No Pakistani is forcing you to follow their ideology, attend pro-Palestine protests, or eat halal food. Nobody cares what you eat. There are millions of Indians living in the UK who live peacefully with Muslims and Pakistanis without any issues at all.

The real problem is people like you and this restaurant owner who are openly anti-Muslim and anti-Pakistan. This isn’t India, and white people are not going to protect you, so stop trying to suck up to them. That strategy doesn’t work here, and people with this mindset will eventually be put in their place.

If the owner didn’t want to sell halal meat, that’s completely fine. Thousands of businesses across the UK don’t sell halal and nobody says a word, because they keep it neutral and don’t make a song and dance about it.

So what exactly was this Indian trying to achieve by loudly advertising that he doesn’t sell halal meat? Who was he trying to impress? And when it mattered, where were those people? They didn’t show up to his business , they didn’t support him and didn't came to eat chicken tikka masala, and they didn’t save his business.

That alone tells you everything you need to know.
