I can't believe that I'll be relying on PTV global to get balanced coverage on all political affairs since PTI came into power.

Even Samaa has more or less turned against PTI. The once strong pro Imran ARY has slightly gone against PTI. Even though gems like Sabir Shakir are doing a good job in being fair.

Arshad Sharif is more or less full of crap.

Geo is Geo. Fuly bought out by PMLN years ago.

Dunya news is also blasting PTI.

What could be the reason?

Journalists fearing that Imran and a reenergised NAB is coming for them?

‘Gems like Sabir Shakir’, I’m in stitches. This will definitely be a legendary thread.

Negative news sells. The battle for ratings is even more intense especially after the govt advertising has been cut back and no more easy money to back NS. I think the PTI voters are too sensitive and take these idiots too seriously, and dont see the bigger picture. We have inherited a bankrupt country and have made a good start.

TV news is usually anti government since that is what people want to see. Musharraf, PPP, PMLN governments were all bashed by the media as well.

But this anti PTI hysteria is not reflecting anti PTI feeling as they havent been in power for 2 months, this is a desperation to create it, so that they( media) survive. This is quite literally a battle for survival for Purana Pakistan.

Media didn’t wait for 5 years to criticise other governments’ performances. If the decisions are inconsistent and counterintuitive, the media will criticise it, no matter how nascent the new administration is.

I can give you some practical examples of government’s counterintuitive and inconsistent decision making but I know that it will probably be a waste of time.

OK and prove that pti is responsible for this ,,,,,,i know from where are you coming,,, last 10 years and now 49 days,,i have seen worst situation but this crap media was ok with that most of the time.

During the time of PPP I cannot recall a single channel the didn’t bash the government. During the time of PML-N all the channels criticised the government to varying degree. Take Faizabad dharna as a reference point. Yes, I agree some media houses showed a certain amount of leniency towards them but you’d also have to acknowledge the other media houses who reported vehemently against them. But one has to analyse these things on an event to event basis. So in the end, if the majority of the media houses criticise you then it means that somewhere along the line the government has taken counterintuitive and inconsistent measures.

Take this news for example;
<blockquote class="twitter-tweet"><p lang="en" dir="ltr">Key bill seeking strict punishments for false blasphemy accusations withdrawn from Senate on <a href="https://twitter.com/hashtag/PTI?src=hash&ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw">#PTI</a> request<br> <a href="https://t.co/Sd7SVikjWv">https://t.co/Sd7SVikjWv</a></p>— Dawn.com (@dawn_com) <a href="https://twitter.com/dawn_com/status/1051193380481454080?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw">October 13, 2018</a></blockquote> <script async src="https://platform.twitter.com/widgets.js" charset="utf-8"></script>
Now do you blame the media for criticising them?

Pti should be careful in such sorts of things as we have seen PMLN and even ANP cashing Ahmadi economist saga.I am not expecting much from them the way the did there but most of the channels are talking crap,,i even do not listen to them...have you watched mateen and Klasura show?.

I don’t watch TV anymore. I just follow news reports online. To be honest, I’m allergic to Klasra and Sabir Shakir types. Kamran Khan, Nusrat Javaid and Zarrar Khuhro are some of the more respectable news broadcasters in my eyes and I follow them online.

At the end of the day, it’s about the government who is unwilling to take responsibility for its wrongdoing. First it’s some activist who outed their economic advisors’ faith. Then it’s the opposition who armed twisted them into taking back that decision. Then again it’s the media who is ‘talking crap’. The activists didn’t tell the government to appoint a minority member in economic advisory council. The opposition couldn’t possibly force them into backtracking from the move because of their lack of numbers. The media can’t close their eyes on the withdrawal of a bill that would ensure the end of false blasphemy allegations. All media comes from a biased perspective, some in favour of the government and some against it, but how can the media ignore such things? The Klasraas and Mateens of the media were not serious journalists back then and they aren’t serious now. But how can a common man close his eye on such issues? The only difference is that the Klasraas and Mateens blasted PML-N government back in the day so the PTI cheerleaders were fine with it. Now they are blasting PTI government and everything they say now is crap. Those ‘journalists’ were filthy back then and they are filthy now. The only difference is that they aren’t on this government’s side. That’s why we need better defamation laws in our country. The Mateens and Klasraas get away with their style of journalism because they know that they can get away with it.

And they are 1st govt to do that are they? Govts make mistakes, its part of being in govt. The difference between the PTI led by IK and the Nooras and PPP on the other hand is that IK will be working for PK, whilst they spent every waking hour to steal. I dare you to tell me otherwise.

I think you are wilfully being ignorant of the fact that every government has been blasted for making poor decision by the media in the past. Every voter in the past believed that their elected members were different from the previous ones and they would be the ones who would be working for Pakistan and that the previous ones spent every waking hour to steal. So why should the rules be different for this government? Media is not criticising PTI, it is criticising the Government Of Pakistan. Just like it has criticised every other government.

Everyone is Pakistani media to be honest.

Everyone seems to have an agenda as despite there being tons and tons of news channels popping out everyday, journalism and media reports seem to be of the lowest quality.

The so called media of Pakistan is fool of uneducated people who don't even know how to talk.

Imran has got a lot of the so called media against him and it won't be something that will get better anytime soon either.

That’s quite subjective. For example, a PML-N supporter is more inclined to think that ARY is full of low quality critiques. A PTI supporter might think that Geo and other relatively non-PTI supporting media outlets are full of low quality critiques. At the end of the day, if the government doesn’t make a mess of things, the media would more or less be quite. Once the government start making the claims of grandeur the cheerleaders would jump on it and the fact checkers would pounce on them. It’s all to complicated and subjective to quantify something like this.

Possibly could be a little subjective but that doesn't mean that Pakistani media isn't the worst around in the world.

How many of them have actually studied journalism or have any such qualifications?

Certain media outlets as you've mentioned the names are quite noticeable in their support of certain parties and so on...

My views were more in terms of how Pakistani media is over all in general.

Every institution is a reflection of the ppl it represents.

I think it's more to do with the united opposition.

In the past we have had "fiendly oppositions". PPP and PML-N didn't go after each other nearly as much. Anyone who follows politics will attest this. Obviously there was criticism hurled around but apart from a few incidents here and there it was quite mellow compared to now. This is what Imran used to call "Satta Batta". Also PTI had no real love for their fellow opposition party, they have always been critical of both PPP and PMLN. Even when PTI and PPP teamed up for the senate elections the two weren't as supportive of each other.

Negative reporting sells as has been pointed out and every government faces criticism whether justified or not. But the intensity has been upped against PTI because a) there has always been an anti PTI wing of the media which I think was always stronger than the pro PTI wing and b) the entire old guard has come out united against PTI. This includes PPP, PML-N, JUI, Jamat-e-Islami, ANP. Each of these old parties have influence and contacts in the media and they will obviously try to word every report and twist facts as much as they can to go against PTI. On every talk show they all gang up on PTI.

There's a reason why PTI is putting so much effort into running their social media page. They know all the media cares about is ratings and bashing the government is always popular, combine that with the "allied opposition" and its influence the media is simply not dependable enough. A prime example is Asad Umer's live interview transmission through the Tehreek-e-Insaf facebook page last night where he could explain the economic situation calmly and comprehensively.

You avoided my question- for the 1st time in a long time, we have a PM who lives and breathes PK and not spends his time looking to steal, i dared you to tell us that the Sharifs and Zardaris did they same. You got scared and avoided the question.
As far as wilful ignorance is concerned, who is/are the ignorant ones when the PTI are blamed for the bankruptcy. You would have thought that a metric educated media would know this and asking them(the Nooras) why the country is bankrupt.

Whatever makes you feel better. I don’t claim to know what’s in ppl’s hearts. I judge them by their actions and inactions. Just because the previous administrations were corrupt doesn’t mean this one gets a free pass for its bad policy decisions.

And I never gave media a free pass. Media is also filled with partisan hacks in Pakistan.

What is wrong with you? I don’t think you deserve a dignified response for this comment, so I’m gonna refrain from engaging with you. Peace.

"I judge them by their actions and inactions" and after 10 years in power in Sindh and Punjab, you still dont know. There is nothing wrong with me, take a closer to home.

And a big LOL for ppl on this forum who think that I don’t consider PPP and PML-N to be corrupt. Their actions and inactions are a clear indicators of their corruption. I don’t have to know what’s in their hearts to say that they are corrupt. The OGDC scandal, the Ashiyana schemes, the danish schools and their inability to write the letters to Swiss authorities regarding ill gotten money is a clear example of that. Similarly, I don’t claim to know what is in IK’s heart to know about his actions and inactions. The U turns, the bravado, the lies, succumbing to the demands of right wing lunatics, having a tax evader as his right hand, tells me everything that I need to know about his politics. So the media, the cheerleaders and the pundits can go and live in a La La land. I have my eyes and brain to see what’s going on in Pakistan and I am more than capable of judging them without ever claiming to know what’s in anyone’s heart.

Helicopters, affiderine, target killings and Ayan Ali are some other dishonourable mentions, but who’s counting?

Number of reasons for that, Nawaz Sharif has invested a lot in various journalists (literally owns Geo) over the years and even relatively honest journalists favour him because they have nothing personally to gain from Imran Khan. At least in Sharif's case, they get royal treatment and certain favours.

PTI government has also come down hard on media spending which didn't go down well with media.

Media usually takes anti government stance and there is nothing wrong with it but these FAKE news (IK being unhappy with Asad Umar and Shehryar Afridi) is not criticism by any means (it's malicious intent).

Not necessarily, lot of them have family disputes as to who should contest elections especially influential families. One such family who we have also known about is Waraich family in Toba Tek Singh, brothers always contest against each other and it has always been a huge mess.

At the end of the day, blood runs thicker than water. Ppl aren’t getting decent choices to vote. They ultimately end up voting for one member of the family or another. That’s the bigger mess. I’m sick of this political system.

No doubt it's annoying and far from being ideal. These families usually use their influence in departments like police to win the support. PTI is facing huge challenge in depoliticising Punjab police but if they manage to bring some change it will help a lot to get rid of influence of such families.

Well, Durrani’s resignation doesn’t bode well in the larger scheme of things. So it is really a very uphill task from here on.

In the previous regime even pro PTI channels such as Samaa and 92 would also get huge advertisements which this government has curtailed.

They have nothing to gain from praising PTI or being supportive of PTI.
