What's new

83 - Ranveer Singh stars as Kapil Dev in film based upon India's 1983 World Cup win

Chak de was great because of the atmospher it created. The play list and than the world t20 2007 taking place.

But it was the typical sports story, first you lose than start winning

This is why 83 is one of the best sports movies from india.

In that case you would like Paan Singh Tomar.

For me , 83 is more like documentary than movie. So far only 3 matches (featuring India) from 83WC are available. So this movie showed what went in other matches. Also there are lots of small anecdotes which adds alot to it. What movie pulled off is in matching cricket shots and wickets with real life event to high accuracy. Dadly this movie didn't do so well commercially. If it had then i think in couple of years we might have seen similar such movies. I would have loved to see high budget movie on Ind-Pak first test series and India win against WI and Eng in early 70's.

Been watching this in bits as and when I get time.

Liked some bits but just feel that this "lagaan" style of sports based movies is a bit tedious. The whole India v World (especially the Evil Angrez) just makes the movie bit hard to watch.

MenInG the Angrez versus the subcontinental people, esp India was true. Uptil mid 90s the brits didn't respect the ex colonies.

Talk to journos fron 80s, they will tell you how the English behaved.

Just to give one example, After Dalmia won the ICC presidency, he travelled to the icc office in London. There the then icc CEO told him that Dalmiya had no office in the ICC and that he was not expected to be involved in the workings.

Despite repeated requests, the ICC staff didn't get him an office.

Dalmiya then had the entire staff report to him twice a day at his suite at the Dorchester.

Only after that did the ICC and brits realized that they were in different times.

ICC was a very colonial organization.

Just got to watch the movie, so good unfortunately flopped.

How far we have come so happy to see.

Watched this today.

Fairly average really.

I would have wanted more about the characters, the stuff we didn't know about the win etc.

Have to say, this is probably the best ever Cricket movie made till date. The accuracy to the shots made, the way the bowlers were bowling, the way the batsman played their shots and the angle at which they shot it. Cricket movies are hard to make, but the budget that was spent on this, the move was just great.

I think its a must watch for every cricket fan.

I wont critisize it, because making a cricket movie is very very very difficult as you need to know how to hold a bat, how to roll your arm to bowl. The actors did a great job.

I also agree an excellent movie. Seen it multiple times. It's up there with lagaan

M.S. Dhoni: The Untold Story was also a brilliant movie. But yeah, to create the vibes of 80s was one step further.

Best Cricket related movie or series after a long long time. Some crowd part was cringey but the best part I liked was that Romi Dev did not see India's win live in ground, this actually happened as both Kapil and Madan Lal's wives left the stadium when Viv Richards was smashing 4s. Kapil's wife had not told him about this for a year.
