Fakhar Zaman speaking to the media today:

"A lot of credit for [my success] goes to Mickey Arthur as he also took me along in the UK tour and told me before the start of that tour that they were taking me as an extra player and whilst I may not play any Test, I want to get you ready [for playing Tests in the future]"

"I told Mickey that I want to play domestic cricket but he said, no, I want to keep you with the team"

"Unfortunately Imam had an injury and I got a chance to play"

"But the fact is that we are always prepared for this from our domestic matches and also the NCA coaches prepare us for Tests too"

"Mickey had said to me before UK tour that he wanted me to play Tests for Pakistan but first I will prepare you so they were working on my technique and now I was also able to make some runs"

"Yes, Usman Salahuddin and I were going back to Pakistan but we were stopped here as Imam was unfit"

"We were going back to Pakistan to play domestic cricket as the guys were performing well and I had myself spoken to Mickey to allow me to play in either A team or in domestic cricket"

"It doesn't matter if you are playing One-Day or Tests, the type of wicket dictates how you bat"

"The way I play my cricket is that if the wicket is supportive of batting then I play my natural game and if the wicket is supporting bowlers, then I take my time to play an innings"

"The way the wicket is playing and the ball is breaking a bit, I would say that we are in a good position"

"Our grip on the game will become tighter if we can score another 100-150 runs tomorrow"

"No cricketer is ever satisfied with any amount of runs he scores and in my case, I feel that I could have scored a 100 in each innings"

"In the first innings I was wanting to play my natural game but the way the situation was then, the plan became to take our time when batting"

"In the second innings, our position as a team was good so I tried to make [quick] runs"

"I don't think it was my form which was bad but I was a little unlucky then and also played a few [bad] shots"

"My form was fine as in the nets the ball was coming nicely onto my bat"

"But I think, during the Asia Cup, I did not take the time [to settle] that I should have taken based on the types of wickets we were playing on"

"Sarfaraz Ahmed gave me support in the first innings by scoring runs at a fast rate as I was planning to not score too many runs in one or 2 sessions as long as no more wickets fell"

"So, I was blocking the ball and he was making the runs"

"Due to Sarfaraz Ahmed's run-making, the field setting was such that we could get 1 and 2s so the credit goes to him"

"Yesterday we were 57/5 so I changed my style of play but I always like to play my natural game, regardless of whether its a 4-Day or One-Day game"

"Starc and Siddle are very good bowlers but on this wicket, Nathan Lyon was really good"

"I suppose the pitch was spinning which is probably why Starc didn't bowl so much"

Some very nice comments by Fakhar and one just hopes he keeps on scoring big for Pakistan.

B-b-but we need to stop wasting our time with these duck coaches!

EDIT: uh oh, are we not allowed to use that word?

Mickey’s golden boy and best contribution to Pakistan cricket

not really, since he played babar for that long when a more deserving batsman was in the dressing room thinking *** do I have to do to play when a walking wicket is being treated as the future king. Arthur lacks any planning, fakhar was there bc he was our best odi bat for the year and had a stellar first class record as well. it's not like Arthur took someone like warner, who did not play first class and made him a beast test player. he merely sat a guy with a 50+ average for 4 series, had a guy with 20 average as pure batsman failing for 8 series and WHEN INJURY struck, the guy with the 50+ average comes in and does what his average says he will do..... OUTSCORE the 20 average batsman. NO credit to mickey, but really only discredit. same thing again as when mickey did not play Asghar against sri lanka and had his face blackened by a team so weak india b was wiping the floor in the next series they played making 500+ scores and batting once.

Lol, what is this gibberish? Someone sounds annoyed.

Yes. Definitely, what does fakhar know about fakhar feels

But I was told by "experts" on here that he is a hack and will struggle to last one session.

He is correct.

Mickey does a good job in improving naturally aggressive batsman and helping tie up their technique and defence. He was doing a solid job with Sharjeel Khan as well

Arthur has done a good job with Fakhar. I have always thought Fakhar can do well at test level. In the UAE it's fine to open with him. But outside of Asia I think he should bat in the middle order. He would do well against the older ball and he's very good against spin.

Damn I just can not wait for Sharjeel and Fakhar opening the batting. Even Sharjeel looked decent in his only test.

Im the only expert you should listen to lol

Ive been saying for some time that Zaman should play tests.

Really feel for the guy as he fell 6 short of what would have been a brilliant 100 on debut for him then again he was looking so good in the second for his first 100 but fell for 66.

Overall he's gone well in his first test and now will need to build up for himself from here on if he can develop into a test player.

"But Mickey is only here for a pay packet..." :))

Lot of respect for Fakhar and Mickey.

I thought he might struggle on UAE pitches, but he played brilliantly and didn't try to overslog and kept urgency which was a nice thing to see.

This guy has that hunger and will to succeed. He may lack the technical ability of others but he will outscore them.

Technique means nothing, especially for Pakistan batsman. Most of them have huge error and are susceptible to inswinger as they try to flick it it from middle plus they are mentally weak. Fakhar is mentally strong and that's why he scores, but we need more players to give him support.

I wonder what was the secret behind Bhumra and Bhuvy able to tie Fakhar down. India must have the greatest support staff in the world given that the aussies are struggling to contain him

Pitches are different too, but honestly in the Asia cup fakhar was more aggressive than usual. He was trying to hit out after a few overs of containment. This is test and lol he saw our brilliant batsman in last 4 series batting at 30 strike rate so he knows he can take his time.

But what I don't understand is, how are people giving Mickey the credit here. Fakhar was averaging 50in first class, an indication he had the temperament for test. Mickey sat him in 4 series and had 20 averaging batsman play. Fakhar only played bc imam was injured.

He can get tied up if you come round the wicket and angle it into him - that's the biggest flaw in his technique.

That's all Pakistani batsman honestly. I don't know what the analysts do for other teams. I wish I can apply. Bowl at the off stump, have most players straight and in slip, Pakistan all out for <200 Everytime

Right attitude and that poise during interviews with no airs is why every body wants him to succeed. Honestly, I was surprised to him score here after Asia cup. Imam and him can be openers for LOIs and tests for atleast 4 to 5 years.
