What's new

A new low? Pakistan’s dismal ICC record since 2022

With that being said @saimayubera I respect rohit alot as a captain. I respected him even when people had given up on him due to some curse.

He's clearly a gun whiteball captain but he's poor in tests though. Bumrah captained better then he did, but I can understand why giving Bumrah test captaincy is suicide. He's too injury prone to actually play every single test throughout the year + all formats. He needs rest.

Bumrah should remain vc but then who's gonna captain for test in India? Gill isn't suited for red ball captaincy
Him and Dhoni are great white ball captains as exemplified by their successes in both IPL and international.

Kohli better red ball captain.

Captaincy maybe Pant.

4 ICC trophies for Rohit

He had important contributions in all 4.

2007 50 vs SA in must win game when India was in trouble and some late hitting in the final.

2013 good combo with Dhawan.

2024 good throughout tournament minus final.

2025 opposite of 2024 with performance in final (Kohli did opposite in 2024 and 2025)

What wonders were they performing prior to that Asia Cup ?

Pakistan's ODI record vs top teams since 2009 has been shocking.

The T20 side has been declining since 2019 when Sri Lanka C whitewashed us 0-3 at home.

The less said about the Test team since 2017 the better.

Attributing it to one day or one match is just needling and not a serious analysis. It's a low skill, weak mentality team in an unprofessional structure with unstable leadership. End of.

They weren't setting the world on fire but atleast they were beating a few B/C string sides and were generally ruthless against minnows etc. Your players were oozing 'deluded confidence' evident by Imam Ul Haq's infamous "Other teams are scared of Pakistani ODI team" statement in a podcast at that time.

But it all came crashing down when India made a mockery of them over two days in Colombo. Since then they've looked like they've lost all the self belief and have lost to Afghanistan and USA in embarassing manner followed by the 4-day exit in CT.

The Pakistanis keep on bringing two matches they won against India in last 8 years. I mean even Zimbabwe has one 2-3 matches against India in the same time. Rizwan babar and co pulled a scam of a lifetime by minting those 2 victories.

He wasn't good throughout 2024. He only performed vs Australia. He actually performed better and more consistently in 2025

No. He had a couple of quick 50s apart from that 92 vs Aus - one in the semi vs England and one in the opener vs Ireland. That is 3/6 games before the final.

2025 first 50 was the final although he had some quick 20s-30s.

Kohli did the opposite - 2 50s in CT before the final including the semi (out of 4 games) while in the T20 WC first 50 in the final

Both the final knocks were exactly the same score too - 76

They've just won ODI series in Australia and South Africa - so the argument they're still traumatised by the Asia Cup defeat to India doesn't hold water.

Listen Indian fans can rightly brag about the ICC tournament record vs Pakistan.

However to give yourselves credit for the recent decline of Pakistan cricket is just fishing for reactions - we're self-sabotaging ourselves quite effectively without any external assistance.

4?? He has 2? Asia cup isn't an icc title? Or are you referring to him as a player too and not just captain? And counting 2011 and 2013?
Dear brother I am trying to check where Rohit played the WC in 2011, I fully trust you as I did even in DLS vs DRS. I will let cricinfo know that they are wrong on this. @Varun if brother momin says Rohit played 2011 he must have.

Rohit has 4 ICC events

1. 2007 T20 WC
2. 2013 CT
3. 2024 T20 WC
4. 2025 CT

most people forget his crucial innings against Pakistan in 2007 T20 WC final ! Also he hit the last ball of India's innings for 6. Guess by how many runs Pakistan lost ?

Even in the 2022 T20 WC, we were lucky that Holland beat SA otherwise we were looking at an early exit in that tournament as well.
Lol our last good ICC tournament was in 2021, we got handed a semi-final berth by South Africa’s incompetence. Don’t forget we had dropped a game to Zimbabwe of all teams earlier in the group stages.

But yes we completely disintegrated since the Asia Cup 2023. The players completely lost all confidence and are still searching for it somewhere.
SA vs Zim was washed out when SA were 51-0 in 3 overs chasing 64 in 7 overs. That played a part in Pakistan's qualification to the SF.

I think Pakistan had a good chance on 2021 to get another trophy and also in 2022 but the bowling + fielding let us down on important occasions. Remember that semi-final against Australia, Shaheen choked, Hassan dropped a sitter. It has been a norm in Pakistan cricket.

2021 is seen with a bit of hindsight bias. The team wasn't that great.

Firstly India was shockingly poor in this tournament, this was definitely their worst icc t20 performance of all time. They got mollywopped by Pakistan and NZ by 9 and 10 wickets and all their batters were pure circus clowns in said tournament. It was a shockingly poor tournament for Bumrah as well which is another reason I rank him below Mcgrath as Mcgrath never had such goofups in icc events while Bumrah has had 5 (vs pak 2017, vs pak 2021, vs NZ 2021, and vs Aus 2023, and possibly vs England 2019)

Secondly we lucked out vs NZ and Afg lol. Asif ali had 2 one hit wonders. We had lost those games lol. We didn't exactly dominante and mollywop everyone like some media hype had everyone believe.

The media made it seem as if Pakistan was ushering a new don of classic Australia back when Australia would tonk 300 to 350 in an era where 250 was on par and the opposition had to chase it when mcgrath was bowling lol.

We should not have lost against Australia however one key metric of that cup was that Pakistan consistently flunked their final overs. Against india they could have bowled them out for 100-110, it reached 150+ thanks to kohli and the others but their was no reason not to casually dismiss the tail and frankly kohli himself who had God awful form.

NZ and afg also could have been bundled out. Afg were at 76/6 yet they reached 148.

Pakistan should have known that Australia is the team that has pulled off the most upsets in the history of the game, including pulling one off against Pakistan in wc 2010.

They had a horrible track record of bothing the last 6 overs in that cup .

Its just India bowled Nepal level and Asif ali had 2 one hit wonders the next 2 games hence people didn't notice how logically all 3 teams could have been bowled out for 100 tops.

I was clearly talking about their tournament performances.

Not the glorified net sessions i.e the ODI bilaterals these days.
