Former India cricketer and commentator Aakash Chopra named his combined India-Pakistan XI of all-time, in a video uploaded on his social medila channel.

He tried to assemble the team in such a way that the batting department was dominated by Indians while Pakistan was given preference in the bowling department.

“I wanted to do a fun exercise today by selecting the combined all-time Test XI of Pakistan and India, although it was a very difficult task,” Chopra said in a video uploaded on Facebook. “One thing that we will all agree, before moving on, that the team will give more preference to Indian batsmen and Pakistan bowlers.”

Chopra picked former cricketers Sunil Gavaskar and Virender Sehwag as the openers and few would want to argue with this particular selection.

“There is no doubt that Sunil Gavaskar will be one of the openers as his presence is absolutely mandatory,” he said. “I would partner him with Virender Sehwag because he scored two triple centuries in Test cricket which is quite an achievement.”

Chopra selected Rahul Dravid and Sachin Tendulkar at No.3 and No.4 spots respectively. The duo won countless matches for India while batting at their favourite positions.

“At third and fourth position, I would include Rahul Dravid and Sachin Tendulkar,” he said. “At fifth and sixth position, although they are both playing out of position but deserve a place in the XI, are Inzamam-ul-Haq and Javed Miandad.”

Chopra was tempted to handover wicket-keeping duties to Dravid but he eventually changed his mind and decided to bring in Mahendra Singh Dhoni.

“For the wicketkeeper spot I will pick MS Dhoni. Although we can consider Dravid as well but I don’t want to make a batsman playing at one-down to keep the wickets,” he added.

Two World Cup winning skippers come next as Kapil Dev and Imran Khan give this team a whole new dimension. They could bat, they could bowl and they could lead the team with absolute authority.

“At number eight and nine, I will pick Kapil Dev and Imran Khan. Imran will also be the captain of my side,” the former India cricketer said.

Fast-bowler Wasim Akram finds a place in the side and so does Anil Kumble. Chopra also stated leaving out Waqar Younis was a tough call and he was made the 12th man of the team.

“It is 100 per cent certain that Wasim Akram will be part of this lineup and he slots in at number 10. With over 600 wickets, I will include leg-spinner Anil Kumble as the final player in my team. It is hard to keep Waqar Younis out of this XI but I will definitely include him as my 12th man,” he said.

Gavaskar
Sehwag
Dravid
Tendulkar
Inzamam
Miandad
Dhoni
Imran (c)
Kapil
Wasim
Kumble
Waqar (12th man)

12th: Waqar

A solid XI, a very tough bowling attack and the whole XI can bat! Everyone has a test 100 iirc)

If this team had ever played, it would have had the strongest batting line up in history.

Numbers 3 - 7 is just wow :yk2

Missing YK :/

He could have included Waqar and drop Inzy. Imagine that bowling attack and that batting lineup. Even tail also with Wasim at 9 and Kumble batting at 10.

Sehwag
Gavaskar
Dravid
Tendulkar
Miandad
Dhoni(wkt)
Kapil
Imran(c)
Wasim

INDO-PAK A:

Gavaskar
Sehwag
Dravid
Tendulkar
Inzamam
Miandad
Dhoni (WK)
Imran (c)
Kapil
Wasim
Kumble
Waqar (12th man)

INDO-PAK B:

Saeed Anwar

Virat Kohli (c)
Younis Khan
Saurav Ganguly
Mohd. Yousuf
Moin Khan (WK)
Abdul Qadir
Saqlain Mustaq
Waqar Younis
Shoaib Akhtar
VVS Laxman (12th man)

Mouthwatering match:

INDO-PAK A vs INDO-PAK B

Although I may have my own preferences, this is a fair enough XII from Chopra.

I would definitely play Waqar ahead of Dev though. Test cricket, need your four bowlers sharp as a knife. Batting until Imran is clearly enough. Wasim/Kumble good enough to bat 9 and 10.

Dhoni is clearly also the favourite for the keeper post. And I agree with this

But just to play devil’s advocate - what if we factor in extra pace of Akram, Waqar and Imran? Dhoni never had to keep to that pace. The extra agility of Moin or Rashid may give them an edge with the keeping. But I guess you would still have to play Dhoni for the runs :)

Anwar over Sehwag, purely on aesthetics :salute

even tho i didnt include him in my final xi, anwar is very underrated, he was the best test opener in the mid to late 90s, one of the most difficult eras for test match opening. unfort he only played 55 tests, which kinda goes against him.

Shame about his daughter.

A decent XI, but Kapil Dev as second all-rounder is unnecessary as we have Imran coming at number 8. Waqar is simply a better bowler. Would also prefer Younis Khan to Inzi.

For fun, my second Indo-Pak XI will be(assuming Waqar comes in for Inzy)

Anwar
Hanif
Younis
Kohli
Inzamam
VVS Laxman
Latif(wkt)
Zaheer
Qadir
Bedi
Akhtar

And third Indo- Pak will be

Gambhir
Mudassar
Pujara
Zaheer
Azharuddin
Yousuf
Moin/Kirmani(wkt)
Ashwin
Asif
Saqlain
Srinath

Not considering pre-70s era players, so Hazare, Mankad and Mahmood excluded.

I will include Virat Kholi in place of either Inzimam and get Waqar Younis in place of Kapil Dev.

:)) Inzamam over Kohli is as big of a joke as Shoaib Malik still not retiring. Also get Waqar in place of Kapil.

Or maybe he didn't want to select actively playing cricketers.

lol at inzi or miandad over kohli. Agree with the rest. replace kumble with shoaib. No spinner for me. All out pace.

No Captain in the history took more Test wickets than our current PM.

Fast bowling takes a lot of physical and emotional energy and therefore it is difficult to Captain the side while being a fast bowler.

Overall a good team but the bowling is not as strong as it should be.

My team would be:

1. Gavaskar
2. Sehwag
3. Dravid
4. Tendulkar
5. Kohli
6. Dhoni (vc)
7. Imran (c)
8. Ashwin
9. Jadeja
10. Akram
11. Waqar
12. Kapil

All time Pakistan-India XI must have 2 spinners. I picked them Ashwin and Jadeja for their batting. Their bowling on Asian pitches is good as Kumble's or any other specialist spinner. Outside Asia, one spinner is more than enough so Kapil will replace one of them.

A very good 11.

Since it seems he hasn't selected a current player, so arguing about Kohli makes little sense.

Else Kohli deserves a place in any indo pak 11 in any format.

My team of madness

Tendulkar
Dravid
Kohli
Miandad
Inzamam
Dhoni
Imran
Kapil
Wasim
Waqar
Shoaib

Lolz

Inzamam is the weak link in that team. How did an unfit chubby player like get into an all time XI ? Put Laxman in his spot.

You rate Jadeja quite high. In subcontinent he's definitely a better AR than Shakib.

yep, i think his bowling, esp his control and ability exploit turning favourable pitches is on par with any asian finger spinner, his lower order contributions tend to be impactful, and his fielding adds a dimension beyond any of the other earlier era greats.

in asia his real test would have been playing against pak, as i think even weak pak batsmen are good players of finger spin, but i assume his batting and fielding would have still contributed, and in this scenario he wouldn't be playing against pak players.

ive got a big thing for players attitudes, which is why waqar doesnt make it to my team, jadeja's vibe, in the matches ive seen, its a lot more gritty than shakibs imo.
