Recently, Athers and Hussain did an exercise of letting out a combined test team of India-England of players post 2000 on SKY Sports. I am not going into the team they selected but here is my version of the XI that I have selected.

Ind-Eng combined XI :-

Alastair Cook
Virender Sehwag
Rahul Dravid
Sachin Tendulkar
Joe Root
Rishabh Pant(wkt)
Stokes/Jadeja( depending on conditions)
Ashwin
Broad
Bumrah
Anderson

Apart from Pant, I would say that its looks fine.

But 1 point that comes in my mind here is who will be the keeper if not him, because this is not the whole world. This is just India+England combo..

This is the team Naseer Hussain and Michael Atherton selected.

For me

Pretty spot on 11.

So they picked an 80s Sachin Tendulkar in a Post 2000s team but did not pick Joe Root in it.

@DeadlyVenom @Cpt. Rishwat
You cant pick root because atm he isnt > Dravid or Sachin. He has 10 tests to surpass them yes cause he can improve aus avg, improve conversion rate and rise his avg >>> 50 since hes barely hovering at it.

But its an uphill task and would require him to avg 65-70 across both tours.

Until then Dravid and Sachin are superior.

Tough love for root since hes competing with the 2 greatest Asian test batters of all time.

It's a post 2000's India-England combined Test team.
Post 2000's Sachin and dravid are still > Root.

Root barely hovering 50 avg, conversion rate and aus avg will always haunt him. He has 10 tests to improve that. Otherwise I dont see how he'll recover as he ages and ages

Root can still be picked at 5.

Just pointing out that this snub doesn’t look good on a player on the verge of breaking world record and he’s being snubbed by Englishmen, that’s gotta hurt his case more.

True but isn't no 5 better of you're a dasher? KP is more aggressive and balances the combination pretty well no?
Not necessary in my opinion. Root had great record when batting at 5 back in 2015 when England had Cook and Bell in top 4 and his strike rate is also very good.

This team will have Pant or some may choose Stokes as well at #6 so the dasher requirement is already fulfilled and they don’t necessarily need to pick an inconsistent batter at #5 in my opinion. I will definitely pick Root in this team because he is the best England batsman in last many many years.

Fair enough, Root at 5 it is.

Can't speak about others but I always saw Kevin Pietersen as more of a threat than Joe Root. Again the same thing applies, KP could take apart attacks.

Yes :kp at 5 is better choice than Root.

It's a fair pick, for that squad Root should get in over KP.

Tendulkar has a massive fan following so it makes sense to pick him for commercial reasons. I would do the same to ensure 1 billion fanatics tune in. Root doesn't have the same fan following.
