Aamir Sohail criticises Sarfaraz during CT, new video post#206; PEMRA asks for apology post#252

this guy is a disgrace.. he keeps on repeating that ICC provided pitches to boost the morale of Pakistan.. like seriously?? then i hope icc continues this for final as well..

going back to his comments about the pitch.. it was same for both team in each game and the way pakistan batters went about their business against england shows that Pakistan bowled beautifully.. fielder backed them 100% like that catch from fakhar.. how is that fixed amir sohail? such a disgrace really boils my blood..

From what I understand Aamer Sohail was ****** of at Sarfaraz for not willing to dedicate win to Miandad on Miandad's Birthday. So he said Sarfaraz should not be so proud of winning as he won because of prayers and getting a favorable wicket.
Corruption and match fixing etc was made up by the media just to add masala and sell views.

Aamir Sohail criticises Sarfraz during CT, clarification post#206; Sourav Ganguly response post#139

Well, the thread title refers to Aamir Sohail clarifying his comments in post #206, but that isn´t a clarification of his comments by any stretch of the imagination. In that tweeted video of his, he´s just wishing the team well, and Sarfraz too in a separately tweeted video.

So the wait to know as to what he was trying to imply therewith continues I suppose?

He is irrelevant...he wanted publicity and now he has got more limelight than he ever had when he was playing for pakistan.

Mediocre player in his time. Third class captain, corrupt chief selector, failed commentator and now a bitter ignorant deluded attention seeking loser.

He is just bitter and can't see any young Pakistani player do well because he gets jealous he couldn't achieve that in his career.. Some of Pakistani ex cricketers wish their team keeps failing so that people keep praising them for their days and they stay relevant.. Only Wasim and saqlain seems like they genuinely care about the team and want them to do well..

I think this issue should be put to rest. He was ill informed and excited everyone by proposing a theory which seems far fetched to some people but to me has some merit.

People keep misconstruing his message. But at the end of the day, we won and it was not because Indians fixed or ICC fixed the game, it was because our team had more hunger and we played better.

There is no point in beating a dead horse

Has he met Sarfaraz and sorted out the misunderstanding like he promised he would?

Channel asked to apologise for airing remarks against Sarfraz

ISLAMABAD: The Pakistan Electronic Media Regulatory Authority (Pemra) has directed the management of Samaa TV to tender an apology to Sarfraz Ahmed, the Pakistan cricket captain, and viewers over the airing of remarks by former cricketer Aamer Sohail against him during a programme, Mission Oval, before the final of the Champions Trophy.

“The management is directed to air the apology on June 25 in the prime time news bulletin,” said a Pemra press release.

The regulator also asked the channel to ensure that a text runs on the screen as well when the apology is aired.

The authority took the action upon a complaint made by the Pakistan Cricket Board against Samaa TV.

Pemra issued a show cause notice to the channel on June 20 and after hearing its reply on Friday, concluded that the words used by Aamer Sohail against Sarfraz Ahmed were in violation of the Electronic Media Code of Conduct 2015.

In order to avoid any further violation of the code of conduct, the channel has been advised to appoint an in-house committee to monitor content before it goes on air.

The regulatory authority also directed Samaa TV to install time-delay mechanism in order to avoid airing of any indecent or controversial content.

Sarfraz Ahmed led Pakistan to Champions Trophy glory last Sunday after his team beat India in the final. The country is rejoicing its first Champions Trophy and the Pakistan Electronic Media Regulatory Authority (PEMRA) has directed the management of Samaa TV to apologise to captain Sarfraz. It has asked the channel to apologise to the captain and viewers for airing comments made by Aamer Sohail.

On a programmer named ‘Mission Oval’, Sohail had said that former cricketers had all the right to criticise the players. Sohail was replying after Sarfraz refused to dedicate the win over Sri Lanka to Javed Miandad saying that he criticised the team too much.

“If you do something wrong, we will point it out to you; if you do something right, we will tell you that too; and if you do something wrong in an attempt to do something right, we will point that out to you as well,” Sohail was quoted by Dawn.com. “Prayers and God; as I cannot name the facilitators of those prayers,” Sohail replied when asked who won the game for Sarfraz.

Pakistan Cricket Board had complained against Samma TV to PEMRA about the comments. PEMRA is a release said: “The management is directed to air the apology on June 25 in the prime time news bulletin.”

PEMRA also asked the TV channel to run the apology text while it is aired. The decision comes after it heard the TV channel’s reply on Friday to their show-cause notice on June 20. After the reply, PEMRA said that the statement made by Aamer Sohail was in violation of the Electronic Media Code of Conduct 2015.
In other precautions ordered by PEMRA to Samma TV, the channel has been advised to install time-delay mechanism and appoint an in-house committee to avoid monitor content and avoid such incident again.

Comments: TBH it is Aamir Sohail who should be issuing the apology

No question both the channel AND Aamer Sohail need to appologize. A baseless remank was made directly targeting the character of Sarfraz Ahmad

If they don't appologize, PCB should take them both to court on behalf of Safraz. This is a clear case of defamation of character

The only problem is that nothing like this ever happened

When I first saw this Aamir Sohail fiasco, I was wondering what the hell was going on because this seemed to be what the discussion was about, i.e. Sarfraz allegedly refusing to dedicate the win to Miandad.

I am not sure where this perception came from.

This is the video of the question and the answer Sarfraz gave:

His answer was perfect,Sohail just invented stuff to back his opinion.

Sohail came across very poorly, and Pakistan winning the final, and Sarfraz lifting the trophy was an apt reply to that bitter man - no matter what he tries to say.

i was watching that press conference live and the question was whom do you dedicate this win . Javed miandad wasnt even mentioned . Sarfraz said look when we lose we get cricticized and when we win we get praised .
so not really dedicating for any one just for nation

ICC Champions Trophy 2017 — Ethical Journalism

By Aamir Sohail

A fair meaning of the noble trade can be argued into five core principles; truth and accuracy, impartiality, independence, humanity and accountability. One must wonder where the above were heeded, when a well-known News Channel, used excerpts of my interview on private Urdu channel SAAMA, without really understanding my underlying message, then proceeded to form their own expert opinion, turning it higgledy-piggledy to adduce allegations of impropriety towards ‘match fixing’. Let me assist with my qualified cricket expertise, where one has to be objective in undertaking a SWOT analysis of the participants, but also, critically to me, understand the commercial aspect and break these into bite size chunks for the armchair supporter. Pakistan were seen as rank outsiders to lift the ICC Champions Trophy. The last 19 ODIs confirmed a win loss ratio of 8 to 11. Delving deeper, six of these triumphs were arguably, versus lower ranked Ireland and 5 against West Indies, as both sides were locked in trying to qualify for the mega event. Putting matters into further perspective, the victory on the 2016 England tour was when the hosts had wrapped the series up for zip, the other success, a series levelling victory in Australia, whereby Pakistan lost the next three.

Therefore, after the opening defeat to rivals India in the ICC Champions Trophy, that notion was further strengthened. However, all was not doom and gloom, as a few clashes passed, it became apparent, that teams would be playing on used surfaces, thereby giving sub-continental sides, a clear advantage in my eyes. Pakistan were not the only sub continental side that cottoned on to the dry, abrasive surfaces assisted their spinners, allowed seamers to reverse swing and made run gathering easier for their batters. Guess where three out of the last four participants came from!

These conditions along with players giving their best presented a huge advantage for Pakistan, built the players confidence who then gave their best which in turn lead to their progression to the semi-finals. It was at this juncture, that will the Pakistan skipper, Sarfraz Ahmed, care to dedicate the win to a living legend in Javed Miandad, as a birthday gift. The retort was unequivocally negative using mitigation that he was too critical to be awarded such accolade.

Incensed was a personal emotion towards the captain, who over the years, seemingly ignored my wholehearted support of his cause, be it, when advising him to bat up the order, take his batting skills to the next level by coaxing the lower order along. Let’s not forget my ebullient reinforcement for him to steer the rudder, after the 2015 ICC World Cup, made me to state that “one should not get conceited after a couple of wins and that he should respect his seniors”. Conversely, the compass doesn’t always point due north, however, as a Pakistan captain, one has to endure criticism, enjoy successful accolades, whilst seeking improvement at all angles.

One particular media house, has attempted making this some ethnic issue, which is completely vitriolic, that deserves a response. If one cares to look back in time, it will be understood as a former chief selector, I gave opportunities, to players, from outstations like Hyderabad and Attock into International cricket. Several others at a slightly lower level. To this day, numerous cricketers, in touch with me, have requested assistance for cricketing justice to be served.

Building on the above foundation, a very well respected Karachi Cricket Association official, will confirm unwavering levels in my attempts to raise the City’s cricketing agenda. There is a powerful quote from Paulo Coelho’s - The Alchemist - “When you want something; all the universe conspires in helping you to achieve it”. Back to the facts; when I commented that ‘aap ko yahan laya jah raha hein’, it was taking the tournament trend into account. Even a defeated England skipper, rued the fact, his players were under prepared for a surface suited to the opponents, more than his own. I was amongst, millions across the nation, delighted that Pakistan qualified for the Final of an ICC tournament and conveyed a congratulatory message to the team media director for the achievement; winning or losing wasn’t an issue as the Team Pakistan had made the nation proud.

Shortly after, a channel toed a similar path, were one listened to a crescendo of hammerings. It was deemed appropriate at the time to absorb like a good sponge and not become confrontational. However, my stance on a show of an Indian channel whereby I put up an argument which was lauded by millions across the globe was lost in translation... ...Pakistan lost a huge opportunity before the Final to make a paradigm shift, in not being able to coerce the (Indian Cricket Board) BCCI to sit down and legally commit to a bilateral cricket programme, or the Final will have one dressing room vacant. This could have forced the International Cricket Council to intervene for some unilateral agreement?

On the flipside, I do have one clear-cut agenda. That is Pakistan. If my loyalty is being questioned, then, people do not know my track record. Several financial offers have been declined in order to cross-question Pakistan’s agenda. I confess I was harsh, however, it revolved around being open and honest. When I mentioned, I can’t name any person’s that boiled down to the commercial aspect of the game, which has a far bigger agenda than any one person, in that the conditions provided were suitable that were exploited to the max. I will continue to offer my views in a forthright manner, taking the principles of the opening paragraph of this piece into account. We live in an age, where opinions will always beg to differ; for that I make no apology, but welcome open dialogue, in contrast opposite to the bias others care to create in consuming column space or TV talk time. I felt I owed this to the cricket loving nation of Pakistan who were hurt and upset at supposition made to deliberately malign my character.

How many times will he lie to justtify himself?

There was no mention of Javed Miandad in any press conference.

so many words for so little information. this is what is wrong with the editing world. and funnily he still doesn't talk about the fact that sarfraz never in anyway said anything against miandad in the press conference.

It just proves Aamir Sohail thinks too much of himself.

He lied and made stuff up. Now he just continues to peddle the same crap to justify his initial foot-in-mouth.

In a nutshell his defense to that comment is that he was referring to how the conditions were favorable to Asian sides ??? and gave the example of Morgan's presser

Talk about shifting goalposts :)) :)) - It would have been much easier to just accept his mistake and apologize for the brain fade.

What a clown.

Completely in the wrong and continues to defend himself.

Not sure what the point of this column was from Aamir Sohail's side considering that Miandad was never mentioned in the presser from Sarfraz... Either he was mistaken or he was misled, should own up.
