I remember he used to be somewhat cautious, but a good striker of the ball once he got going. He was quite aggressive, but showed it more in his manners than in his game.

The one incident that sticks in my mind was how he trolled Venkatesh Prasad in Bangalore, only to get clean bowled by him in the next ball.

Overall a decent opener, but wouldn't hold a candle in front of the likes of Saeed Anwar. He took to commenting later but was quite a disaster there.

How do Pakistanis rate him?

He was handy along with his spin bowling. gave the team extra bowling option , and along with Salim Malik could get 10 overs easily allowing pakistan to go with 4 bowlers.

After 1996 , he was a shadow of himself.

Suspect technique but very aggressive. Very much a hit or miss player.

Fakhar is the present day Amir Sohail.

One of my favorite batsmen from the 90s. Loved his batting stance. He was a natural stroke maker, could drive and pull.

He was part of the generation that had the swagger. Educated, Suave and was a great partner to Saeed.

Good player. Avg of 35 in tests is a bit disappointing given how good he was. But he played some wonderful innings, especially vs Australia.

He was a good player but an average of 35 in the 90's isn't bad. There weren't too many openers who averaged 45+ in that era. The averages started to swell only post 2000. He was a very good ODI player and a decent Test opener. Doesn't he have a 200 in England?
