Shame on him. I would rather fight for a Pakistani spot and lose than apply to play for a different country. Pathetic stuff.

He's only 24, it's a shame that he's giving up on his Pakistan career so early - that's not dreaming very big.

he seems to hold a dim view of Australia's talent pipeline

Even if he does'nt play for Australia, hewould earn good enough money to live a pleasant life. If a cricketer did this in the 90s or early 2000s, I would be downright angry and hurt. But seeing over the past years, the pathetic role of PCB, keeping likes of nepotistic administrator Shakeel Sheikh and selector Inzamam, the selections of likes of Shoaib Malik, Akmals, the sad end to the career of Asim Kamal and the treatment meted out to Fawad Alam, Sharjeel Khan, Shahzaib Hasan and Khalid Latif.
i believe the current setup of PCB does'nt deserve good talent of Pakistan.

I really hope cricketers from Karachi take a lesson from the Lahore cricketers Imran Tahir, Usman Qadir and apply for other countries. Dream of playing for Pakistan will never come true for a Karachi player.

Reminds me of the Fawad Ahmed guy although he applied for other reasons. Nobody is bound to nothing and can play wherever they want. Lets see what all of the jignos above do when they are in a similar situation.

It's easy to curse someone when he go to other place for good life, even when 50% of people in this forum choose to leave their country for better future. Hypocrisy of some people has no limits.

Will be interesting to see how this goes for him. I don't consider him talented enough for international cricket. He has poor control over his line and length. Although can he spin the ball and has a decent Googly. Furthermore, his dad is always there to guide him. Fact is Australia hasn't really found a decent legspinner yet.

Following the footsteps of Fawad Ahmed. He knows getting into the Australian team as a spinner will be easier compared to Pakistan with the likes of Yasir and Shadab around.

He's never been that good but wish him all the best.

He was highly unlikely to make the Pakistan team, but may get a gig or two in the Aussie team. 'May', not 'will'.

Even if he has a decent first class career in Australia, he may be thinking it'll be a better life for him than sweating it out on the FC circuit in Pakistan.

Best of luck to him.

Aren't most of the guys in this forum non-resident Pakistanis themselves? Then how can you blame this guy trying to go for some good life.

didn't he apply for south african nationality some time back

He's unhappy with selection policies in domestic cricket and feels he has not been given a fair chance.

Lloyd Pope looks very good and I think he will be ahead of Usman.

His choice, he wants to make the most of his cricket life , good luck to him.

Now if Shahzaib Ahmed also apply for Australian citizenship it would be a nightmare scenario for Usman Qadir as Shahzaib Ahmed is a far better spinner than Usman Qadir.

I don't blame him for looking for greener pastures abroad. In Pakistan there is no concept of merit.

This will increase his chnace which already is pretty dim to play international cricket.
Its hard to compete with the likes of Usama Mir, Mohammad Asghar, Raza Hassan, Mohammad Irfan, Shadab Khan, Mohammad Nawaz, Kashif Bhatti, Hasan Khan etc

Then to compete with the likes of Zampa, Boyce, Agar, Holand, Swepson, Fawad Ahmed

He's unhappy with selection policies in domestic cricket and feels he has not been given a fair chance.

If Abdul Qadir's son hasn't been given a fair shake in Pakistan domestics, I for one would question his talent more than I would question the (from what I read, no personal experience) often absurd and biased domestic structure.

Good luck to him. Nothing wrong in looking for greener pastures. Most desis yearn to get a better life for which they venture outside their home countries. Life is really a mess in the subcontinent....lot of work for little returns.

Even people with influence cant get their kids to play for Pakistan. It seems that a certain group have complete monopoly over the selection. Pakistan cricket have stooped down even further.

Selection was never based on merit to begin with but some of these selections nowadays are clearly out of order, some players get selected again and again while others are ignored no matter what they do.

People are forgetting that he can earn decent amount playing for a state team and BBL like Fawad Ahmed.

Did Usman Qadir deserve selection on merit ahead of Shadab,Yasir and other spinners? Isn't it a good thing that people with influence can't get selected unjustly?

Never said he deserve to get selected. He is an average cricketer at best, all I suggested was that a certain group have complete control over the selection and Qadir not getting selected is an indication of that. You need to be in good books with them to get selected.

So let's see.....

Father was an ex test player and chief of selectors and brother in law is Umar Akmal. Yet, he finds it hard to get a game. Well maybe just maybe, he's not quality material for that level...... sometimes it's good to read the signs early and do something else.

Tahir and Mahmood married citizens of SA and UK to become citizens of those countries, what's Qadir's plan to become an Aussie? Go and play lowest level amateur club cricket and hook up with someone?

Tbh he is really mediocre

Also. It's players like him who make mockery of merit. If he didn't have that last name he perhaps wouldn't have got out of zonal cricket

He is associated with Lahore qalanders but even they dont play him in main squad.

He is associated with them just because of his connections. No way on merit he deserves to be even part of squad.

Also in Lahore Qalandars there was Narine and Yasir Shah. So there was no way they could play Usman

Ive seen him play. He is not even in the same league as Shahzaib Ahmed.

The only reason people know about him and he has a PSL contract is because of his last name.

He should thank that he is in Pakistan otherwise he wouldn't get ahead of zonal cricket structure

May be whole Pakistan is conspiring against him due to his connection with akmal family.

Smart bloke, IMHO

If he is as mediocre as is being made out then ts good for cricket. In Australia he will be selected on merit alone and wont hold a spot of another deserving player in the Pak team. How deserving a player is upto the rotten PCB who is strangulating cricket.

I don’t have a problem with him exploring opportunities else where. He’s got a living to make & if he doesn’t think he can get into the Pakistani team - whether that’s bevause of PCB policy problems, selectors problems or the fact that the likes of Shadab & Yasir are better then him - then that’s fine. He can go ahead and try alternate options.

What I do have a problem with is a 24 year old leg spin bowler who averages 40-50 with the ball in his First Class/List A career thinks he’s good enough to waltz into the Australian team. :))

It’s hilarious to think that with a record like that he thinks he should be considered for national selection

Anyway - all the best to him. Hope he learns to give things a proper try before giving up....

Hes got an Australian look going on too.

His average will probably improve in the Aussie set up though :)) those players can't play spin to save their lives, same here no issues with him jumping ship. He's being realistic because the spin bowling competition is fierce and like you say he has not set the world on fire either. Imran Tahir is one who got away though, in LOI's he would have been a decent prospect and his domestic numbers in general to be fair are pretty good but again, competition was fierce. It's weird, we have such a rich history when it comes to fast bowling but in the modern era it has been the spinners who have be leading the way for Pakistan.

I'll support him on this, even if he performed in Pak domestics I dought he would get into the team with likes of Yasir, Shadab and even Asghar, Raza and Irfan in competition.

Let him go where he gets appreciated. ALLAH's earth is not limited to Pakistan. We should wish him well wherever he goes.

Oh really, I thought as much. He's already being helped in getting to a place his talent does not deserve..... people like him learn the hard way when they get to a place where mummy and daddy can get you up the ladder.

In a way it's good he should move so someone deserving can take his place in 1st class and psl.

Yea Imran Tahir was one that got away - however Fawad’s was no big loss IMO.

Yea I agree. Matter of fact is that the Australia spin scene - at the current moment in time - is less crowded than than the Pakistani spin scene so he has a better chance there. 15 years ago with the likes of Warne, Wasim, Akhtar etc. around it would have been a very different story

I only logged into PP because I had an excuse to message the Tallu then he went into hiding :mv :yk

His numbers are still shocking, in the U19 level I felt he had a lot of potential. But unfortunately as it stands there's not a lot great about him besides his last name, maybe he doesn't have the GENE :ksi Red Devil Yasir Shah may well have been the real son of Abdul Qadir all long! it was him! it was him all along! Red Devil WOO!

He looks chubby whereas the standard of fitness in Australia is way too high. His stats don't look good and I believe he doesn't have any PSL experience.

Anyway, I hope he does well.

Like a desi kid who goes to a medical school in Caribbean because he knows he's not good enough to be accepted into any local US medical school

He has made the right decision. In Pakistan, even if you work hard, you still can't make it big due to rampant corruption and nepotism. Even if he plays domestic cricket in Australia, he can live a very comfortable life.

So many Pakistanis go to other countries to find work, nothing wrong with Usman's desires to move to Australia , best of luck to him.

His dad is Abdul Qadir. He’s played a few domestics matches and his stats are really mediocre, so they can’t say he wasn’t being given a fair chance when his domestic stats where so bad.

Plus he was involved with Lahore Qalandars last year so this isn’t about corruption or being treated unfairly. He knows he’s not good enough to bowl for Pakistan so he’s going Australia.

Good for him. Even playing first class cricket in Australia will earn him a good living. Good luck to him.

Would be hilarious if he does somehow play for Australia though. Wonder if it's ever happened before - a son and a father both international cricketers for different countries.

I don't think it has happened before would be a first, I think that there's a realistic chance he could and a lot more possible then if he had the green shirt on. Spin bowling competition is fierce in Pak, even druggie is back and has been doing pretty well in domestic cricket according to the sheets

Never say never.
George Headley played for WI while his son Ron (and grandson Dean) played for Eng
Wazir Ali played for India and his son Khalid Wazir for Pakistan
Nawab of Pataudi Sr played for Eng and India while Mansoor Ali Khan Pataudi played for India
Frank Hearne for SA and son George for Eng.

More recently Tom Curran (Eng) and his dad Kevin Curran (Zim)

I think we should be applauding the guy for looking after his career, and setting goals for success. Can't say that for many.

Kevin curran- Zimbabwe

Tom curran - England

Just taking some downtime prior to Pakistani Cricket returns In-Shaa-Allah and the Spirit Squad Returns :inzi

:))

Yea man the fact is that if his last name wasn’t Qadir - no one would have cared about him and this thread wouldn’t have even existed. Harsh but true.

nothing wrong is choosing another country.

But wearing the jersey of a foreign country and all. Thats really a ******** thing to do.
He made a twitter account, wore that jersey and uploaded a pic. Just shows he wanted attention.

You could go and play for any country you want. But it could also be done quietly aswell.

I remember his name being mentioned a lot here a few years ago but there's just too much competition for spinners in Pakistan.

We have an abundance of spin options so hard to see where he'd be figured in.
