Delta Air Lines responded Wednesday to accusations from a YouTube star that he was kicked off a flight because he spoke Arabic to his mom on the phone before takeoff.

In a statement, Delta said: “Two customers were removed from this flight and later rebooked after a disturbance in the cabin resulted in more than 20 customers expressing their discomfort. We’re conducting a full review to understand what transpired. We are taking allegations of discrimination very seriously; our culture requires treating others with respect.”

Delta was responding to a series of widely circulated tweets by Adam Saleh, who has over 1.6 million subscribers to his TrueStoryASA YouTube channel, and over 2.2 million subscribers to his Adam Saleh Vlogs YouTube channel. Saleh’s YouTube channels are full of prank videos as well as videos about Muslim life, and he is a self-described “professional idiot.”

In an interview with CBSN, Saleh said he takes numerous flights every month, and he was upset because something like this never happened before.

“I speak to my mom on the phone every flight,” Saleh said. “She only speaks Arabic.”

He said when he was speaking to her, a woman in the seat in front of him turned around and told him he ought to speak English. Saleh said he told her he can speak whatever language he likes, and her husband responded by standing up and screaming at him.

Then about 20 people allegedly said they were uncomfortable with Saleh and his Arabic-speaking companion. The pair were approached by the captain, who Saleh said “seemed ashamed and embarassed” when he asked them to leave the plane because of the other passengers’ complaints.

In one video Saleh posted to Twitter that was retweeted 83,000 times in just 2 hours, Saleh can be seen getting escorted off the plane.

As he is slowly walking down the aisle of the jet, Saleh says he is being kicked off for “speaking a different language.” He said he was just innocently talking to his mother when “white” people around him began complaining about his use of Arabic. This led to a handful of Delta personnel asking Saleh to leave the flight.

In the video, some passengers can be seen telling the apparent Delta employees that they did not want Saleh removed, while others can be seen waving and saying “bye” as he walks away.

It is not clear in which city the incident took place, although according to Saleh’s social media accounts, he was on his way from Australia to New York.

He later tweeted that police and security officials interviewed him and the other person kicked off the flight multiple times.

Saleh later said he got on a flight to New York with a different airline after being “checked” for 30 minutes.

“I’m not gonna let this go,” Saleh said. “What if they do this to people like my mother who can’t even speak English?”

No official accounting of what exactly transpired on the flight has been released by the airline or airport security. Mediaite reports that Saleh has a history of faking anti-Muslim incidents.

However, Delta employees have been accused of discriminating against Muslims in recent years.

In August, an Ohio Muslim couple said they were removed from a return flight from Europe after an airline employee allegedly singled them out because of their appearance.

Delta issued the pair a full refund of the couple’s airfare for the July 26 flight from Paris to Cincinnati-Northern Kentucky International Airport. The suburban Cincinnati couple were allegedly removed from the flight because an airline employee wasn’t comfortable with the woman wearing a headscarf and talking on the phone, and with the husband sweating. They were returning home after visiting London and Paris to celebrate their 10th wedding anniversary.

Who the heck is Adam sales

That guy was really funny. So well integrated with his colourful hair and equally colourful American language.

Makes me so angry, white people are so scared of two ethnic guys speaking Arabic.

300k retweets! That's more than even Trump gets !

Not all white people; But I agree that it is disappointing.

That's nice of you to say "not all of them" but you never see white people* do that, they generalize whole races and communities.

* of course not all white people.

The issue is a bit misleading. The problem that Captain faced wasn't that he spoke Arabic but multiple passengers complained about him. If you have a crowd against you (only you), it's easier and safer to move you away than dealing with the whole crowd. The captain had no other option.

Never heard of him but if the reason he was sent off the flight was coz he spoke Arabic it's pretty disgraceful.. The islamophobia is at an all time high and with German attack and Russian diplomat killing just a few hours back the people just got panicked.. This is what happens to harmless Muslims because of deeds of the terrorists.. it's sickening. It that's the world we live in

Yep 6 white people on a plane, the airline staff should've been more responsible than giving into the demands of 6 bigoted white people.

This isn't the first time Delta has kicked off Muslims from its flights, we needa boycott this

This is what this dude claims. Just visit his channel and you will know why he shouldn't be taken seriously. He has a habit of staging scenarios to project Muslims as victims.

Arabic on plane should never be used in USA. Its just asking for trouble. Americans are totally paranoid after the 911 attacks. The recent attacks by idiots some idiots in USA does not help either.

Can we add "allegedly" to the title?

Especially after the news of the girl in New York that went missing last week due to supposed Trump supporters, perhaps we should wait for the facts?

Just a summary of some videos this guy has done in the past

^Based on the above evidence it seems this guy was asking for it

^Based on the above evidence it seems this guy was asking for it

Watched da bunch of his videos

He's obsessed with painting Muslims as victims and trying to provoke some racist action against Muslims.

It seems he tried this multiple times and finally what he wanted happened. You'lol obviously find someone to turn on you

Shameful this is

Reminds me of a video 5-6 years ago.

This Muslim guy goes into a football tailgate (sort of party with alcohol, burgers, hot dogs etc before a College American football game). So right in the middle of this area there's an open space. Guy takes his janamaaz and starts praying there.

Obviously in a crowd of 100-150 people with majority of them drunk as well you are bound to find 5-6 who will be racist towards you and say inappropriate things about you and Islam.

Ofcourse not condining what they did at all and maybe I'm not in the majority view but I hold the Muslim guy responsible for such incidents

This guy is a phony he was looking for trouble, look at his hat and how he is speaking its like he was ready for some showdown. Sad part is people like him take all the spotlight while average normal people get discriminated against on a daily basis.

i think this was a publicity stunt by Adam. He was rightly pushed out

This guy is a clown who shouldn't be taken seriously. This could very well be another of his pranks.

Maybe he is trying to highlight an issue which is nothing short of a racist mindset on airlines?

As for the OP I've been on flights where drunken English holiday makers cause trouble , swearing, shouting , making others feel uncomfortable but hardly anyone is giving a warning let alone being thrown off.

Personally I wouldn't use American or western airlines in general unless I have to . Emriates, Qatar etc fly to enough destinations now.

Delta is known for racism. Never traveled on it and never will, even if some one gets me free ticket.

Lol at those people saying it is Adam's fault. He was clearly not trying to provoke anyone. He was just talking to his mommy. :babarazam

A lot of these pranksters who make their money and fame off of embarrassing others deserve a proper thrashing.

No sympathy for this guy who has made a career out of playing victim. I hope this is true and not another of his pranks.

But I suspect this might be true though something he brought on himself deliberately. There is no footage of him talking Arabic. Who knows whether he kept yelling in Arabic on the phone, sounding nervous or aggressive. It's all good to later claim on camera that it was to your mum, but there's a good chance a shameless attention grabber like him acted threatening deliberately to intimidate other passengers.

A lot of anti-muslims and indians here are hailing this case of discrimination just cause the got an axe to grind against Adam & Slim as well as Muslims.

This is an excerpt from the a passenger on that flight from the NY times.

When a witness from the actual flight makes a statement, its worth more than all the conspiracy theorists who assume that the victim is actually guilty.

The captain could always ask the mob to fly the plane themselves. :afridi

Some more truth, Adam also mentions how a Pakistani lady stood up for them and Slim mentions the whole "boy who cried wolf" thing occurring to them.

They gave it away at 3:58 mark in the video. Do you really put your fist up and speak harshly while speaking Arabic? I am sure that you are bound by religion to defend them, but it shouldn't be hard to see as to what they were trying to do.

There is no shortage of Arabic speakers in the world, and they travel around the world without a problem. But here you have two idiots who most certainly designed their words and conversation in a way that it really would make people feel scared and uneasy.

You don't understand bruh, he said "the other lady" claimed that they had their fists up and spoke arabic, they didn't make an admission. A fist in the air could mean anything, that's how this generation communicates.

Of course. Of course. So should that also be the case regarding speaking in Hindi, or Swahili, or Telugu, or Tamil, or in fact in any language other than English since most Americans only understand English and wouldn't know the differences between most other languages?

And passengers should also not indulge in writing mathematical equations on notepads when sitting in planes?
A math equation landed an Ivy League professor on an American Airlines flight in questioning Thursday under suspicion of being a terrorist.

Guido Menzio, an economist at the University of Pennsylvania, was working on a differential equation while waiting for the Syracuse-bound plane to take off from Philadelphia, the Washington Post reported. He had to present the findings of a working paper at Queen's University. But a passenger somehow mistook the equation for Arabic or some sort of Islamic code for a terrorist attack.

Absurd things we get to hear these days:

1) Women shouldn't wear revealing clothes to avoid rape.
2) Women shouldn't wear a hijab to avoid getting assaulted/abused.
3) People shouldn't speak arabic on planes to avoid getting tossed out.

What an astonishing world we live in.

This guy has a heck of a lot of YouTube subscribers, but for the most part comes across like an overactive clown.

Looking at the screenshot posted above featuring a list of his videos, it appears that he had it coming as well.

Being familiar with this guy's channel and his videos, I know that this guy is a certified attention seeker who is known to be provocative to get reactions and also conduct fake pranks.

His audience is mostly teenage Muslim girls, a lot of them from the UK which is his biggest market, who easily for the Muslim victim narrative. He has been exposed to have a pretty 'non-Islamic' lifestyle which he keeps tightly under the wraps but his audience still falls for his BS. At least the fouseytube guy is open about being a non-practicing Muslim and doesn't mislead his audience.

Furthermore, he betrayed his partner - Sheikh Akbar, a Bengali guy who he he started the channel with and usurped the channel and lied about it.

This guy has zero integrity.

If you're going to take time and write, at least focus on the topic. What has all that irrelevant rant got to do with kicking people for speaking Arabic? Hoax or not, not the first time Delta being involved in a controversy. Just few days ago a woman was dragged off a Delta plane. In November Delta apologized for not kicking off a Trump supporter shouting at passengers. Clearly something is wrong with this airline.

My impression is that a lot of the posters on PakPassion are usually immigrants abroad or Indians and don't understand western humour (thus the criticism of his youtube channel) or they have an inferiority complex and they aren't comfortable with a non-white American expecting to be treated as an equal.

Ok if I have to spoonfeed you then my point is that I refuse to take any of this guy's claims at face value due to his past behaviour.

Eyewitnesses have confirmed that he wasn't on the phone with his mother but rather shouting with his mate to make others uncomfortable. And that's why he was removed not because they though he was a terrorist.

He has been at it for a while. It's finally worked for him this time.

Shows how out of touch you are, this pranks and social messages don't warrant him and his friends to get kicked off a flight for speaking in Arabic. Most youtubers use hyperbole and exaggerated headlines for most of their videos, it's nothing unusual.

Of course they don't. When did I say that it does? I'm saying perhaps wait for the facts before pulling out your pitchforks and taking one side.

This is an excerpt from the a passenger on that flight from the NY times.

C0P4neSXAAY-l5q.jpg

And what about the passengers that have come out and said that it wasn't because they were speaking Arabic?

Could be a case of the boy who cried wolf..

Exactly how I feel.

This guy was asking for it from each and every one of his videos. Seems like he finally got what he wanted. Let him enjoy his 15 minutes of fame, by this time next week nobody would even remember his name and he can go back to his unfulfilled life of making crappy videos on Youtube for a living.

"Specifically on the Adam Saleh thing: this isn't rocket science folks.

1. You have a Muslim who intentionally lies, pranks, and provokes people - especially on aeroplanes - who then gets kicked off a plane. We don't know for certain what he said or didn't say to get kicked off, but we certainly can't trust his story without further evidence.

He's not 'Aadil as per Islamic testimony requirements or indeed his own admission, and so why would we change those requirements here? Because the other party is non-Muslim? Seriously?
You don't support a person without evidence just because he's your own. But also, you don't outright reject his statement just because he is known to lie about these things previously, or because you dislike him due to who he is and what he represents. You wait for the evidence. And if it proves him right or wrong, you go with it. Simple.

"O you who believe, if a troublemaker brings you news, check it first, in case you wrong others unwittingly and later regret what you have done." (49:6)

2. You have a group of passengers, of which we expect a certain few percentage to be xenophobic or racist - just like any snapshot of a busy street or a public gathering elsewhere in the West - who would jump on to a situation like this, milking and enjoying any grief given to someone else of colour and thus wave "bye-bye!"

If we can prove that those folks were actually being racist and that Adam had done nothing whatsoever to provoke those people, then they should be condemned. It wouldn't be the first time, we expect it much more these days now, and we have to speak out against it to show we won't accept it in the future either. However, how damaging has this whole episode been because of who made the complaint, and subhanallah what a devastating effect it will now have on the many genuine cases of abuse and racism that Muslims experience everyday.

Likewise, you have a group of passengers - many of whom we'd expect - don't like people acting like idiots and would be happy to get rid of them. Watching the recorded antics of Adam Saleh on planes previously - something he knows full well will upset people and he revels in that - then it is very possible that he did the same here as he normally does but this time the people reacted differently to before. We just don't know until the evidence comes out.

However if he had done so as per usual form, I'd want him off the plane too. I did the same at a football match recently and cheered along with many others when a fool in front of us was kicked out. If I was on this plane, I would have said good-bye too, and with glee. Why can't others have the same opinion? What, just because they're non-Muslim, they can't feel the same without being framed as racist? Sorry, but that's another stupid example of political correctness, or actually even worse, it's racism.

Again, without proof of what happened before Adam got kicked off, we should not judge the reactions of people before we have clear proof and evidence, regardless of the track record of Adam, or the track record of some Western aeroplane passengers.

"Do not let hatred of others lead you away from justice; rather adhere to justice for that is closer to awareness of God." (5:8)

3. You have an airline company - Delta - and some of its staff that has a reputation for sometimes siding against Muslims or those who would offend the sensibilities of a few racist white Americans. Whether believing it impossible that a black person could actually be a Doctor, believing that sweating is a sign of criminal activity, believing that ethnics should go the extra mile to display everything they have in their pockets to those on a plane to keep them "calm", or whether they just don't like folks speaking in a foreign language: Delta isn't exactly the paragon of virtue and justice.

However, that doesn't make a company inherently racist, or all its staff racist, or everything they ever do, wrong. It makes us suspicious, sure, but every case is to be heard on its merits and evidences. That is why in this situation, we need to hear out Delta's version of the story too and not just judge against them because a Muslim is claiming something else.

"O you who believe, uphold justice and bear witness to God, even if it is against yourselves, your parents, or your close relatives." (4:135)

This is Islam 101 folks. Everyone is given their day in court, regardless of their previous crimes and realities. Every criminal can be a victim too. It goes by the evidence, and until then, we shouldn't be cheer-leading the one we personally like because of our own biases or even past negative experiences at the hands of either party. It might be difficult to put into practice, sure, but it really isn't that difficult to understand Islam's values in such a situation.

Be better. You live to a higher standard. Don't let others drag you down to the pits.
Wallahu a'lam."

Yeah, it's amazing how many people follow him on YouTube. He has well over 2M+ subscribers so he's quite well off with YouTube $$$.

What people don't realize that it was the other youtuber, Slim who was targetted by the racist white woman. Adam just stood up for him and now the media are using his past against him.

A passenger on the Delta Airlines flight from which YouTube star Adam Saleh was ejected on Wednesday has come forward to claim the prankster was not on the phone to his mother when he was removed.

In fact, the supposed passenger said in a Reddit post, Mr Saleh had goaded a friend into shouting in Arabic across the plane and filmed fellow passengers' reactions, before being told to be quiet. The claim tallies with a statement released by the airline.
