Advice to Pakistan : Don't tour Australia until you can sledge

Yaar I am so sick and tired of this weak *** team. Its so embarrassing watching this team get sledged on the field, and seeing warner celebrate. Not only is our team timid, but they just don't have the right attitude to play tough cricket.

Goddamnit they mimic babar's voice on the field and what do our players do on the field? I wish they would get nasty, make some obscene comments once in awhile. Our culture has taken this "aacha bacha" ** too far. Stupid conservative religious culture means that they can't say anything or do anything without having to answer to some mullah.

I want constant mental disintegration on the field. Ask smith where his sandpaper is, call him a cry baby, call him a dirty cheat, have a dig at Warner's wife, tell starc he must be either the stupidest cricketer in the world for not knowing a ball has been tampered with, or he must have been right up in that mix with this "leadership group". Curse at them, spit at them, fight them. I want to see it get ugly. At least have some fire in your belly for a fight, I don't even care if it gets physical with these shameless people, I don't even care if we win. I just want them to know that we can make the rules too. If they have a problem with it, tell them they're "crossing a line". It's not necessary to employ these tactics against other cricketing teams, but I really do wish our players could bully the Australians especially, and occasionally the british. Otherwise these guys will walk all over us and continue to do so.

My blood boils every time I watch this team play. Only players who have shown any fight are shaheen and naseem. Giving them some stares, and fast short pitched bowling. God it makes me miss shoaib akhtar even though he was an average bowler.

Sledging has nothing to do with it.

Even when we had sledgers in the team we still got hammered in Australia.
 
What Sledging? This current Australian team does not sledge in the same manner as the past Australian teams of the 80's, 90's and 2000's.

In fact the close in fielders were just stating facts like Sarfaraz would have swept that for 4, 600/3 and you can't even get to 300/6 or you should have batted up the order to Yasir Shah.

I wouldn't even call this Sledging, this is just harmless banter and mind games. You go out there and you perform with bat, ball and earn respect, this is international cricket
 
You can't sledge effectively if you don't have the quality and stature to back it up. Someone like Miandad shouting, abusing is different from Shan Masood trying to do it
 
This is all part of the 'aggression' mantra which sounds good on paper, but has no practical usage. There are other forms of aggression on the field that are far more useful than words.

First of all, a lot of our players aren't proficient with English. It will just look dumb if they try sledging. Sledging in other languages won't make sense, unless you're playing an Asian team that can understand what you're saying.

Secondly, if the bowlers are bowling wayward lines and keep pitching the ball short and getting smashed around, no amount of sledging will be of any use.

Thirdly, the disintegration that our team goes under when we tour Australia has little to do with sledging.

The real reasons why we lose every time are weaknesses in all facets of the game, need to work on those.

I will add that body language needs to improve. The intensity in the field has been down during this series and shoulders droop far too quickly when things aren't going our way. This is a sure shot way to let the opposition walk all over you. Even if the bowling isn't doing so well, you have to keep up the pressure in the field. Much of that has to be led by the captain, so...
 
Sledging is good, it should motivate the team to perform better
 
Ah yes, the typical ‘aggression’ that people our fans and experts always speak about.

Sledging doesn’t make a difference when your skill set is such inferior to your opponents.
 
Lol sledging is useful and looks ok if you have the quality to back it up with good cricket on the Field.
 
This is 2019. Days of sledging are over. You have to win with skills now.

Cricketers nowadays play with each other in various T20 leagues. It is why they stopped being nasty with each other. I think it is a good thing.

They clearly were mocking imam and Babars voice. Imagine doing this to Kohli the whole Indian team would go crazy on the Aussies and they will be taught a lesson...too much timidness in these guys
 
I enjoyed our last tour when we won, not only on field but in sledging. Esp guys like Starc, Paine, Handscomb and Marsh were given a earful :)))

Rahane - Pant - Kohli and 1 more guy ganged up and were sledging them non stop. This has to be done as a group not by 1 player. Sometimes they were making fun of them in Hindi, it was hilarious :D

Paine was taunted as temporary captain by Pant all the time.

This wasn’t the first time India did it though.

They tried it in 2011-12 and 2014 too but obviously when you’re getting blanked you lose your voice and cannot do it any longer.

And this is exactly why I said this sledging can only work if you can back up with quality cricket which Pakistan obviously can’t.

Indians looked stupid doing it in previous two tours (prior to last year) but with a strong Indian side and a weakened Australia side, it was done effectively last year.

Even when you are losing you need to give it back, it is no fun when only 1 team bullies you.

For example when Rohit said ‘Come to India and well see’ he was mocked mercilessly because Indians were being massacred on the field but if he passes a comment when India are winning obviously it won’t be received with similar laughter

Indeed.

Cricket has changed a lot. Teams no longer resort to ugly sledging. Even Aussies have toned it down.

Also, making comments about family is off limit. It is just a game at the end of the day.

The world has changed for the better, in this aspect.
Crass and unethical. Cant believe some people still think its "cool" or ok to abuse, especially unsuspecting and uninvolved , female family members in a fight between men.

Sledging has to be tactful purposeful and should help egg your team

A good example is sehwag sledging shoaib . It was a good contest and both are good hearted cricketers and ultra aggressive . But brought the best out of both

Sledging an Aussie team in aussie has to be done right - kumble words off the field is a good example . The current team does have warner who is a bully but he needs to be sledged and backed wity very strong bowling to distract him and get him out

The purpose of sledging is either on field banter or distraction to get a batsmen out or disturb a length

It can backfire on u big time - flintoff made yuvi angry and his six sixes allowed India to win the match by 20 runs . It brought out best in yuvi . So the target has to be right . You can’t sledge a tendulkar or dravid or kohli . All 3 will give their best and not get distracted .. it works on players like certain South African bunnies of Shane warne who are mentally not strong and don’t have a great game to begin with

Even if you are losing, you can certainly respond back. You don't have to start but it won't look bad if you respond in kind.

Sledging no sledging, aggressive, etc, etc.

dude that was an old washed up team filled with retirement village candidates. They were given a last chance to play test cricket as a formality. Should have never happened in the first place. Ofcourse india will always open the door to them because all those great players were marketable. Yes they were great players until 2010. Clearly they declined right after. Yet they were still selected for some reason as a sign of respect. This kind of nostalgia based selections only happen in Asian countries.
 
Sledging is not just a tactic, but it is a mindset. It is a self belief that you are superior to your opposition. Whether you are technically a better player or not is irrelevant. For the past decade, Warner hasn't even been the best batsmen in his team, but when he walks on to the pitch, he believes he is the best player in the world. I'm not saying that sledging or aggression will win us games, but it will at least prevent us from the meek surrender that we have witnessed during this tour.

The fact of the matter is, I can guarantee you that every one of these players on the Australian team considers a person of brown skin to be naturally inferior to them. Smith, Warner, Paine, Starc, Ponting, Clarke, Mcgrath all of them. Listen to their commentary. When it comes to sledging asian teams, this is where they draw their inspiration from. When it comes to the british, Australia pride themselves as being "tougher" than their white counterparts. Thats where they draw their inspiration from for the English opposition. There are lessons to be learned. Australian culture in general is a disgusting cesspool of racism. Obviously there are exceptions to the rule, but this is the status quo that is prevalent throughout white society to some degree. The days of overt racism are over, but there are layers to this form of oppression and it is obvious what the impact has had on the Pakistan team.

Say what you will about Virat Kohli, and the Indian team, but he has brought pride and self belief into this Indian side. Even when they were getting blanked on overseas tours, he gave it right back. Its taken me years to accept it that he is someone who is proud of his heritage and it shows on field. I've hated Indian cricket with a passion for 10 years for ruining the game of cricket with commercialism, clear Indian bias, and phasing pakistan cricket out with politics on and off the field; but goddamnit it feels good to watch Kohli give it back.

The problems in our cricket stem from our own cultural change over the past 30 years. Religious conservatism is destroying us from within. An individual cannot be an individual in this team. Players are being treated like sheep, can't even go out to dinner let alone a club when they travel overseas. Their image is being controlled by Pakistani media and government and PCB. These boys don't know what to say or do on the field. Sure its a multi faceted issue, rife with corruption, bureaucracy and domestic structure. But you have to support this team to find a voice, and back them even if things get ugly. We have 3-4 potential Pakistani ATG in this team that will be lost otherwise.

Yaar what world do you live in? Nothing is off limits, which is what separates us from the winners. Whether you like it or not, we are in a cultural war. Fact: The Australian players that I have listed in my previous post, both old and new laugh and mock our language, our customs, our education, the way our women dress, the way our men dress, and our voice (both metaphorical and physical). You want to let them dictate where the line is? YOU make the line. That's what Kohli has done and that's what India has supported. Cricket has not and never has been a gentleman's sport.
 
If I am not wrong the Australian were completely quiet when Pakistan dominated them in the UAE. I don’t think they even smiled let alone say anything lol.

It’s hard to say something clever when you are being dismantled on the field.
 
Australians do sledging when they are facing a tough competition , what would they achieve by sledging this pathetic and weak team. Actually Warner and co sympathizing with the team and pinpointing the bowlers what wrong they have been doing by bowling a bit too short.

The only person who can speak English properly in the whole team is Shan.

That’s wrong though, Azhar and Asad both are pretty fluent from what I remember. Even Yasir, Abbas and Shaheen can get their point across.

That'll look silly if they keep saying the same things while the Aussies are coming up with clever things with their sledges. They just can't compete with the Aussies while sledging in English so might as well not bother. If it was sledging in Urdu to the Indian team then that's another matter.
 
Pakistan simply doesn't have the ability and skills to back their sledging, it'll make them look ridiculous if they sledge while getting obliterated. Plus, bringing someone's wife in the discussion is just disgusting and Pakistan would lose tons of non-Pakistani fans if they did so.
 
Pakistan shouldn’t tour until they have the skills to compete.

It’s a game at the end of the day and bringing up someone’s family, wife is despicable.
 
Sledging when you haven't got the means to back it up backfires horribly, they need to learn how to play competitive cricket first.

I'm glad you've highlighted this because this is the uncomfortable truth for the so-called "defenders on the Ummah" on this forum.

This was largely down to Inzy, when he took over as captain and unfortunately we haven't been able to go back to the good old players, when Pakistan had genuine star quality and swagger on and off the field.

Pakistan teams of late (especially under Misbah) look meek, timid and a bunch of well-behaved school kids.
 
This is a very soft pak team. Every time they got sledged on this tour, they responded with a smile.

Clearly felt intimidated in Australia and out of their depth.

Also, one of the worst bowling attacks ever to go to Australia

I remember when Shoaib debuted with Wasim and Waqar on his flanks under their tutelage. Swagger, arrogance and talent immediately delivered. Our pace battery was so strong in the 90s, medium pacers were laughed out the dressing room. That was 20 years ago. How time flies, how cultures change.
 
Forget sledging, I doubt I have seen any Pakistani player even speak to an opposition player in recent years.

Unless it's the odd India game of course, when a few pleasantries are exchanged back and forth.

Pakistan are too goody-goody and vanilla. Sledging is not their cup of tea, by the looks of things.
 
True that!!! Aussies are 65-0 after 10 overs and our bowlers should have shown aggression to get em out, they can't get em out with the ball might as well fight with them right...:salute
 
Sledging without underlying skill set or performances will only make them look obnoxious and needy. Not to mention try-hard wannabes.

Indian bowlers used to do this especially after 2000. Especially Sreesanth. The line between sledging and abuse is very thin and often the line was breached, which led to him looking really foolish.

However under Kohli the performances were upped an ante. Sledging was replaced with cool swagger of Bumrah and disdainful smile of Shami. The moral win by India in Austrlaia was when sledging was delegated to most junior staff like Pant who still matched Australia s captain word for word.

India made a statement that sledging is for noobs and Paine fell hook sinker for it.
 
We all saw what happened when last time Pakistani team sledged. Their captain had to apologise publicly for being a racist.

Pakistan isn't good at sledging, period.
