After Jimmy Anderson, who will be the next Test bowler to join the 500-wicket club?

Out of the bowlers that haven't retired yet (or are still in action), these are the ones next in line:

Dale Steyn 417
Rangana Herath 389
Stuart Broad 387
Ravi Ashwin 292
Morne Morkel 272
Nathan Lyon 269

Looking at the amount of cricket England play, I would say it'll be Broad.

Don't think Steyn has enough left in him to get to 500.

Ashwin is an outside contender depending on how many Tests India play at home in the next few years.

Posters on Pakpassion don't understand biomechanics and fitness. The only reason it seemed like Dale Steyn was on his last legs was because he had exerted himself to the point where his body couldn't take it anymore and needed rest and he continued to play on in spite of the signs. However, even then, Steyn bowled an quick and as good as ever even in his last international match.

I expect Steyn to come back stronger. He's had a lot if time to rest and his shoulder should be able to get him to 500 in no time. He will become the bona-fide, sole AGT fast bowler of the 2010's.

I would agree with the bit about Lyonn. He's a very good bowler and has bowled some amazing spells in the last year alone. Should be able to play on until 38.

What's important about it? Longevity =/= quality. Ishant has 250 test wickets simply because he's played a ton of matches but he's crap and everyone knows it.

If the bowler breaking these records is doing it all around the world then I would consider it impressive but Anderson is an HTB through and through.

Longevity in itself is a great asset and severely underrated on PP. Mohammad Zahid was an extremely talented bowler but only lasted a few games. He was quality but didn't have it in him to play longer. Same goes for someone like Shaun Tait.

Test match cricket has been played for a long time, only some bowlers have their names on this list and I think it's criminal to undermine their achievenements.

As for Sharma, I disagree. He was an above average bowler in Tests.

Don't think Indians would even claim that.

He started off OK but was very poor for many years. He's been better in recent times but is average at best. His bowling average of 37 reflects that.

Anyway, only one of the three pacers who reached 500 Test wickets is regarded as one of the greatest ever. Longevity is a great trait to have but I'd rather take a bowler who can perform in all countries and conditions.
