Out of the bowlers that haven't retired yet (or are still in action), these are the ones next in line:

Dale Steyn 417
Rangana Herath 389
Stuart Broad 387
Ravi Ashwin 292
Morne Morkel 272
Nathan Lyon 269

Looking at the amount of cricket England play, I would say it'll be Broad. :broad

Don't think Steyn has enough left in him to get to 500.

Ashwin is an outside contender depending on how many Tests India play at home in the next few years. :ashwin

Steyn is done.

Herath bowled very very badly against India. I htink he might be done too.

Broad - Can easily do it in the next 40 Tests. He is not even 30.

Ashwin - Will do it in the next 2 yrs.

Morkel - Is he even a regular in SA line up?

Lyon - Needs to tour SC more and more to have a chance.

Steyn - Pretty hard, I feel his body wouldn't be able to take more than 10-15 Tests.

Herath - On his last legs.

Broad - Very possible.

Ashwin - Of course, even faster if the dust bowls keep coming like they have been in the past 2 years.

Morkel - Nope

Lyon - This would be interesting, he's only 29 and is improving massively. I'll bet my money on him at this moment.

Broad is 31+, still it is very likely that he will get past 500 Test wickets.

Broad and Ashwin.

They play a lot of tests. The others might not have enough games on their side.

Posters on Pakpassion don't understand biomechanics and fitness. The only reason it seemed like Dale Steyn was on his last legs was because he had exerted himself to the point where his body couldn't take it anymore and needed rest and he continued to play on in spite of the signs. However, even then, Steyn bowled an quick and as good as ever even in his last international match.

I expect Steyn to come back stronger. He's had a lot if time to rest and his shoulder should be able to get him to 500 in no time. He will become the bona-fide, sole AGT fast bowler of the 2010's.

A pointless list. Ashwin and Broad should get there.

Pointless? You've got to be kidding me. I would understand if you said something similar for "most sixes" or some record to do with a particular innings however the record for wickets is certainly extremely important and always will be.

I would agree with the bit about Lyonn. He's a very good bowler and has bowled some amazing spells in the last year alone. Should be able to play on until 38.

What's important about it? Longevity =/= quality. Ishant has 250 test wickets simply because he's played a ton of matches but he's crap and everyone knows it.

If the bowler breaking these records is doing it all around the world then I would consider it impressive but Anderson is an HTB through and through.

Longevity in itself is a great asset and severely underrated on PP. Mohammad Zahid was an extremely talented bowler but only lasted a few games. He was quality but didn't have it in him to play longer. Same goes for someone like Shaun Tait.

Test match cricket has been played for a long time, only some bowlers have their names on this list and I think it's criminal to undermine their achievenements.

As for Sharma, I disagree. He was an above average bowler in Tests.

Don't think Indians would even claim that. :ishant

He started off OK but was very poor for many years. He's been better in recent times but is average at best. His bowling average of 37 reflects that.

Anyway, only one of the three pacers who reached 500 Test wickets is regarded as one of the greatest ever. Longevity is a great trait to have but I'd rather take a bowler who can perform in all countries and conditions.

Bacha Party and a lot of ignorant people fail to comprehend how rare a feat this is, will be a while before the next fast bowler gets to 500

Broad will easily do it. England plays a lot of matches at home.

Ashwin has a remote chance too. Out of those 500, at least 400 will be in Asia.

Having an all-round record (or atleast impactful performances in other countries) is more important than hitting these records.

To answer the question, all of them except Morkel can do it if they don't fade too fast.

Ashwin have great chance to make it 500 club. Beside Ashwin, Yasir and Broad have good chance

I have no problem if steyn won't get past the landmark but really hope he don't ruin that ecstatic stats in final entry

Ashwin should be able to achieve it. India are starting to play a lot more tests.

Broad. Arguably better than Anderson because he can bowl those special matchwinning spells with the old ball on any surface.
