Mohsin Naqvi's statements from a press briefing ahead of the 11th edition of the Pakistan Super League (PSL):
“Ten parties have qualified after clearing the technical process. They paid the required fee and submitted a bid security of one million dollars. I am hopeful that the collective effort of our team will result in a strong price, which will benefit Pakistan.”
“Secondly, Multan Sultans will be operated by the PCB this year. Once the PSL concludes, we will complete the auction process. For this season, however, PCB will manage Multan Sultans directly.”
“We will appoint an acting head within the next 8–10 days, ideally a professional former cricketer, who will oversee Multan Sultans for this year.”
“The most positive development for the PSL brand is that we have appointed Wasim Akram as the PSL brand ambassador, effective January 1. He will also be part of the bid-day proceedings along with an international auctioneer.”
“I have suggested that PSL should start on March 23 instead of March 26. If all franchise owners agree, we will begin on March 23; otherwise, it will start on March 26. We hope to finalise this by the night of the 8th.”
“March 23 would be a celebration, and I believe it would be better if we can start then.”
“For the past year, especially since Aqib Javed joined, our focus has been heavily on Shaheens and Under-19 cricket. A four-month Under-19 camp was held in Multan, attended by all senior players attached to the setup.”
“The local coaches spent significant time training the players. While they are not fully ready yet, God willing, within one or two years these players will be fully trained.”
“Our aim is to build two equally strong teams — the national team and the Shaheens — so that whenever required, either side can represent Pakistan with strength.”
“We identified major gaps in player development, but the current training process will deliver strong results within a year.”
“Our goal is to make the National Cricket Academy the best in the region. The design work is complete, and within a month, work at the NCA will begin. We will not only address shortcomings but introduce advanced facilities.”
“One of our biggest weaknesses was injury management. Poor handling led to some players’ careers being almost ruined. Dr. Javed Mughal, one of the best medical professionals, is expected to join us from the 11th, leaving his overseas job to care for our players.”
“Our focus is on youth. We organised competitions involving around 450 schools, followed by city-level tournaments in Lahore, Karachi, Islamabad, Peshawar and Quetta.”
“The Under-19 transition was a major issue — players would disappear after aging out. Now, all these players will remain under our adoption programme and receive full PCB and NCA support.”
“No Under-19 player will be abandoned. We will monitor, support, and guide each one.”
“We are also planning structured programmes so players can take care of themselves while continuing their cricket.”
“For the first time, we have engaged KPMG to independently scrutinise cricket clubs. PCB will not interfere — only qualified clubs will be supported.”
“I will also approach the Information Minister to allow news channels to broadcast sports events. This is not just for cricket — football, hockey and other sports also need visibility.”
“The most important day for us is January 8, when two new teams will be sold. I am confident that both teams will be sold at strong prices.”
“A Rahat Fateh Ali Khan concert will also be held that night at the Convention Centre, and we hope sports reporters from across Pakistan will witness the occasion.”
“Ali Tareen is welcome to buy a new team if he wishes. Technically, we have no objection.”
“As of now, Australia’s tour includes three T20Is, not five.”
“PCB had to operate Multan Sultans this year due to procedural and legal requirements. The sale process has already begun, and once completed, the team will be sold.”
“Decisions regarding the red-ball coaching role are pending. The committee will finalise recommendations soon.”
“The Asia Cup trophy remains with the ACC in Dubai. We have already raised concerns with the ICC regarding player conduct.”
“Our stance is clear: cricket and politics must remain separate. If there is no handshake, we have no insistence either. Pakistan will engage India only on equal terms.”
“The interest shown during roadshows in the UK and USA suggests there will be intense competition, and I am hopeful both teams will be sold at excellent value.”
