Again, please explain how IK has stolen anything and where has he admitted to this?

Again read the post above mine.
Also, Ik has bashed ex pms and did cases on them for recieving gifts that they kept and not submit it to the national treasury

So after 3.5 years all they could make a hullabaloo about is a Toshakhanna case.

Even if that is assumed to be correct (it’s not proven so far) - that is like level of daily corruption which happened in 90s

I quote:-

"
I deposited a gift sent by a president at my residence. Whatever I took from Toshakana is on record. I purchased the gifts after paying 50% of the cost," Khan said.

He said that the PTI government changed the policy of retaining gits and increased the price from 15% to 50%.

"Had I wanted to make money, I would have declared my house as a camp office but I did not," he added.
"

Now then where does he admit to stealing?

Like always, you selectivly missed a part

According to reports, the former premier received 58 gifts worth more than Rs140 million from the world leaders during his three-and-a-half-year stint and retained all of them either by paying a negligible amount or even without any payment.

He admits it by saying mera gift meri marze..

There are even reports he sold it above the price, thus which means he was able to make up for the deposit he paid in the govt treasury.

Remember, this is the guy who blamed other ex pms for this.

Shameful statement from Imran.

When a prime minister accepts a gift he does so on behalf of the nation.

Flogging it and pocketing the money is theft.

Before jump in and say look what Shabaz and Nawaz have done - i am well aware of the extent of their corruption.

But two wrongs do not make a right, and the way he shamelessly batted away this theft is also disgraceful.

Was there anything unlawful about it?

How else do you think it should've been done?

The law states that gifts can be retained.
They would have to pay 15pct before PTI to power, IK increased it 50pct.

So which crime has been committed?

If sold, all of the money goes to the treasury. The same its done in western countries.

Also weren't you just a few days ago crying about shabaz sharif feeding journalists some biryani?

If you are ok with this but crying about that then its clear your criticism is just politically motivated.

Those are not gifts to the IK personally but to the Pak government. It's not "mera tohfa meri marzi". There should be a policy of retaining these gifts by the government instead of allowing PM to take it with him when leaving office

I remember in the US there was a big enquiry because someone pocketed a whisky bottle worth $6K gifted to the State department

Every world leader gets gifts and each country has different rules that apply with respect to disclosing it.
It's unbelievable that this is a big deal when IK has disclosed the gifts and purchased it for 50pct of its value.

He hasn't taken government cars at 15pct of the value and sold them on for a profit, nor has he skimmed of money that belongs to the people of the country.

Where do you think that 50pct of the purchase price went?

You really are trolling now or just don't understand the difference between Purchasing something which is within the laws and then bribing people to vote or support them.

The depth people go to is unbelievable

Two wrongs dont make a right.

Im not in the business of letting things slide because I like a certain party.

We must ruthlessly set our leaders to high standards.

I bet the aam public of Pakistan would love a watch they could buy for a knock off price.

Imran should know better brother. Especially when he is on a crusade to kick these chor out of business.

Nawaz and Zardari also operated within the 'laws'.

FYI Nawaz is hiding in London 'legally'.

The constitutional coup was 'legal'.

If you are going to make this argument then stand by it.

Sorry but this argument just doesn't wash.
A personal gift to someone is their business especially when that person increases the price from 15pct to 50pct.

The fact that it had to be disclosed also excludes and chance of it being a bribe.

Imrans personal gifts will come from bushra bibi not Mohammed Bin Salman.

NS is an absconder
He has been proven guilty in a court of law and is living in a multi million pound flat in Hyde Park without a money trail...

The constitutional coup is still in dispute as the SC who has relative in PMLN opened the court at night but refused to even read the conspiracy letter. Then you had allegations of horse trading with MPA's holed up in Sindh House...

There is absolutely no equivalence to accepting and then purchasing a gift to the actions (past and present) of the PDM. One one hand you have IK who disclosed and paid for the gifts and in the other you have a PM who is facing court cases for corruption.

Do you think any leader that is given a tie or a pen or anything is not entitled to keep it?
I'm sorry but if I start searching I'm sure I can find a list of expensive gifts received by many western PM's or Presidents.

These gifts are given to IK in an official capacity as PM. I think any gift given when in office should be considered as state property and PMs should not be allowed to take them while leaving office

The valuation is done by the government themselves who have a vested interest in quoting it as low as possible.

The rules are very strict in the West around these gifts. Boris Johnson got into trouble for accepting a vacation paid for by a party donor which he then didnt declare. He also got in trouble for getting another donor to pay for refurbishing his official number 10 residence

So what about the history of PM's of UK and Presidents of the US swapping gifts?
They get the opportunity ti purchase them if they want too.

Yes they have the option to pay full market value for the gifts, and the value is determined independently.

Some of the stuff being said defies logic.
I don't think I will lower myself any longer. At least not for now.

I support Imrans riaset e madinah ideology but as a non cult supporter have to question certain thing.

Just as the selection of chors and electables go against the teachings of this ideology, so does this action.

In the real riasat e madinah hazarat umar (ra) was questioned rigorously by the public because they noticed his jubbah was new and longer than normal.

When someone espouses noble aims we must question them when they stray from them. No human being is a saint and to make a mistake is not the end of the world. Just because Imran has done wrong here doesn't nullify his many rights.

To consider this as 'trolling' is the height of insecurity and frankly disappointing. Yes man culture and finger pointing at others when you are challenged is why Pakistan is in a mess.

I think the Toshana case has to be answered and he has. It would have been better if he didn't take anything at all to avoid the controversy. What we need to see is all the prices paid for all the gifts by all PMs. What could be wrong with that. SS should publish all. But he won't, why not?

So if someone doesnt agree with you he is trolling?

Looks like your the one who is digging a hole

As SS is PM, he could nail IK by publishing all the gifts taken, along with amounts paid by all the PMs. Do you agree with me? And you know that ain't happening because all the PMs paid next to nothing and IK has paid 50% of the price. Nani waa struggling to find a reason because her papaa paid nothing at all. Why was that?

IK has been declared Sadiq o Ameen by these biased courts don't forget he will ne the last per to be consider corrupt in Pakistan those shouting at him must look in .themselves

The Islamabad High Court (IHC) on Wednesday directed Deputy Attorney General Arshad Kayani to ensure the implementation of the Pakistan Information Commission's (PIC) order to publicise details of the gifts presented to former prime minister Imran Khan by heads of states since he assumed office in August 2018.

Justice Miangul Hassan Aurangzeb issued the directive while hearing two petitions on the matter, one by a citizen seeking implementation of the PIC order and the other by the Cabinet Division challenging that order.

Last year, the PIC had accepted an application on the matter and directed the Cabinet Division to "provide the requested information about the gifts received by Prime Minister Imran Khan from foreign head of states, head of governments and other foreign dignitaries … description/specification of each gift, information about the gifts retained by the PM and the Rules under which gifts thus received are retained by him".

The Cabinet Division was told to share the required information within 10 working days and upload it on the official website as well.

Subsequently, the Cabinet Division challenged the PIC order in the Islamabad High Court, claiming that it was "illegal, without lawful authority". The then-government took the stance that the dis*closure of any information rela*ted to Toshakhana jeopardises international ties.

During today's hearing, Justice Aurangzeb observed that the gifts belonged to the office of the prime minister and were not to be taken home.

"People come and go but the [Prime Minister's] Office remains. It is not a big thing if money is given to a certain extent and the gift is kept [with the premier]," he said, adding that the government should form a policy that whatever gift is given is deposited in Toshakhana.

He remarked that Pakistan had gifted a chair to former United States president John F. Kennedy which was displayed in a museum.

Justice Aurangzeb observed that gifts were not only received from foreign dignitaries but were also given to them after being bought from treasury funds.

All gifts received from abroad should be put on display, he said.

When the deputy AG sought time from the court to get instructions from the government, Justice Aurangzeb said he could take that time but, in the meantime, the PIC order should be implemented.

"If the information commission ordered that information be provided to the citizen (who filed the application), then do it. If someone has taken the gifts received from abroad to their home, take them back," the judge said.

He added that the court would provide constitutional interpretation regarding the matter if it was needed.

"There is no stay on the Pakistan Information Commission's order. The Cabinet Division is bound to provide information," he observed.

Subsequently, the case was adjourned for two weeks.

PIC order

In its order, the PIC noted that the Cabinet Division had denied access to each item of the requested information by citing "section-7(f) & clause 16(ii) of Right of Access to Information Act. Even the requested item of information about the rules under which gifts received from the foreign dignities are retained by the prime minister has been exempted under these sections."

The PIC held it was not the "certified information, but absence of certified information [that] contributes to 'media hype' and results in 'unwarranted stories', creating trust deficit between citizens and public institutions. Certified requested information will dispel rumours about the reporting of the gifts to 'Toshakhana' by the public officials and their retention price and which elected representative or public official retained which gift at what price."

According to the commission, when certified information about these gifts will be made available in the public domain for everyone to see, citizens of Pakistan will know that the gifts received on their behalf are being properly managed.

Availability of the certified information about the gifts deposited in Toshakhana in public domain will not only make the entire process about the management of these gifts open and transparent, it will contribute to reducing trust deficit between citizens and public institutions contributed by opacity and secretive ways of functioning of public institutions, it added.

Even citizens of the states on whose behalf gifts are received by our elected representatives and public officials will come to know that their gifts are properly managed, resultantly strengthening people-to-people and inter-state relations, the PIC stated in its order.

Established in 1974, Tosha*khana is a department under the administrative control of the cabinet division and stores precious gifts given to rulers, parliamentarians, bureaucrats and officials by heads of other governments, states and foreign dignitaries as a goodwill gesture.

It has valuables ranging from bulletproof cars, gold-plated souvenirs, expensive paintings to watches, ornaments, rugs and swords.

Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) Vice President Maryam Nawaz has accused former premier Imran Khan of staging ‘lettergate’ drama to divert public attention from the verdict that is expected to be announced soon against Arif Naqvi, a case she claimed Imran was also involved in.

Taking to her official Twitter handle on Saturday, Maryam alleged that Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Chairman Imran had taken millions of dollars from Arif Naqvi, a Pakistani businessman and the founder of the Abraaj Group, who is currently behind bars and is awaiting his verdict, which she maintained was expected soon.

US prosecutors alleged that Naqvi was the architect of a plot to defraud investors, including the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation.

Lawyers for Naqvi, who has denied the allegations through a public relations firm, have said he could face 291 years in jail if convicted in the US.

The PML-N leader further said that Imran has attacked the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) because there was “irrefutable evidence of illegal funding”.

Maryam stated that Imran "wreaked havoc in every sector of the country during his tenure and harmed the country at every level".

She said that he violated the Constitution brazenly, made a mockery out of judicial orders, trampling them underfoot and was now spreading mischief.

Maryam claimed that Imran was playing a dangerous game for the sake of the seat of the prime minister.

“He does not deserve any mercy or concessions,” she said, adding that his attack on institutions was a way to increase pressure for early elections.

She warned Imran that his “bullying and intimidation” would lead to his own destruction.

Earlier this week, the PML-N Vice-President claimed that PTI’s “criminal ring” led by Imran Khan was running a smear campaign on social media against state institutions after his ouster from the power earlier this month.

In a series of tweets, the ruling party leader said the malicious campaign and “lies” about foreign conspiracy were spread by a handful of people using hundreds of fake accounts and bots.

“Another IK [Imran Khan] lie exposed, another conspiracy unveiled. Turns out that the slander campaigns against state institutions [and] lies about international conspiracy were churned out [and] spread by no more than a handful of people employing hundreds of fake accounts [and] BOTS,” she wrote on her official Twitter handle.

The Farah Khan scandal and the events in Madinah are the final nails in PTI’s coffin.

He seems to have become a member of Nanis media cell. Ask him who Farahs husband represents, and look at how many times he has avoided a simple question

He is yet to respond to me the same query I have raised in multiple threads about his opinion on family treating political parties and democracy as their business and khandaani jageer, and this Major guy never replies to it. Bhagora is how I describe them, just like their beloved chuur PDM leaders who run away moment comes any trouble. Only crooks benefiting from crooks support PDM so one can connect the dots.

I knew a piping industry businessman from Pakistan who openly confessed few years back that he hates Imran Khan because they can't hand out kickback (a.k.a lifafaz) to governmental department to win contracts as it was the case under Noon and hence were incurring loses. He genuinely seemed extremely frustrated and got a little carried in the heat of the moment to say/confess such a thing and later tried to sugar coat it. That day I realized value of Imran Khan and that he really was working towards kicking these ghuuskhoors chuur criminals out of business to cleanse the deeply rotten system of Pakistan.

For me it was the single national curriculum and Imran Khan's fake use of religion. Iman Khan is a self centered guy who can't see above his own well being. I'm sorry we will have to wait for a new Messiah. This one looks confused and has whale like ego.

Final nail in the coffin is the tsunami of people who have come out in the open to support Imran Khan, unlike PDM jalsas which barely had the numbers, even free biryani plates didn't help the case. It is a clear indication that Pakistanis are fed up of these crook families and what future holds for these chuurs, their days are numbered.

PDM supporters are hell bent on supporting the two families who are rotten to core, waah what democracy where you openly support these families who treat Pakistan's democracy and wealth as their khaandani jageer. Don't you have no shame in at least confessing that Noon and PPP should at least have other party members running for the premier seat? One doesn't even have to discuss this any further the moment such a flawed joke of a political monarchy becomes a point of discussion.

We have seen many clips where the Sharifs and Bhuttos were going at each other like animals in their jalsas and then they had to team up with other chuurs to take on one man. That's what you call a final nail in the coffin. Between what is happening comes election time? Are they all running by individual parties or will team up again as PDM to take on PTI? Neither PDM nor its fans seem to have an answer for this yet :)

The Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) has decided to launch a money-laundering probe against the former federal minister and Pakistan Muslim League-Quaid leader Moonis Elahi, sources told ARY News on Sunday.

The PML-Q stalwart is accused of making properties abroad by allegedly sending money through Hundi and Hawala, the FIA said.

Moonis is the son of Pervaiz Elahi, a senior leader of the PML-Q and Punjab Assembly speaker. FIA sources said they have decided to formally start an investigation against the former federal minister.

Moonis Elahi also reacted to the development from his Twitter handle.

It should be noted that last year, former prime minister Imran Khan had tasked the FIA to investigate the sugar crisis throughout the country and find out who benefited from it.

Subsequently, a report by the agency released last year claimed that top PTI members as well as Moonis were among those who had allegedly gained from the sugar crisis in the country.

Earlier, a spokesperson for the NAB had said that there is no pending inquiry against Moonis Elahi and termed such reports as part of propaganda against the national graft buster.

Sanaullah accuses Imran, wife Bushra of receiving land as graft from Bahria Town

Interior Minister Rana Sanaullah on Tuesday accused former prime minister Imran Khan and his wife Bushra Bibi of accepting Rs5 billion and hundreds of kanals of land from Bahria Town in return for "providing protection" to the real estate firm in a money laundering case during the PTI government.

Addressing a press conference in Islamabad, Sanaullah said Bahria Town had "illegally transferred" Rs50bn to a Pakistani national in the UK. The transfer, he said, was identified by the UK's National Crime Agency, which subsequently informed the then PTI government of the crime.

Sanaullah claimed that Imran, the prime minister at the time, had tasked Shehzad Akbar, ex-PM's aide on accountability, to resolve the matter. Akbar "settled" the entire case, while the Rs50bn — which was state property and belonged to the national treasury — was adjusted against Bahria Town's liability, the interior minister alleged.

He said the former prime minister accepted a graft of Rs5bn as "his share" through Akbar before the case was wrapped.

Sanaullah said the federal cabinet has formed a sub-committee to investigate the scandal and deal with it as per the law.

"The case did not just end here. Bahria Town, after its Rs50bn was protected by the government, entered an agreement and allotted a 458-kanal land with an on-paper value of Rs530 million to a trust owned by Imran and his wife," he claimed.

Bahria Town donated the land to Al-Qadir Trust, with the agreement bearing signatures of the real estate developer's donors and Bushra Khan — the wife of former premier Imran, Sanaullah alleged.

He said the non-profit organisation had only two trustees: Imran Khan and Bushra Bibi.

The minister said that another 240 kanals were transferred to "Farah Shehzadi" — commonly known as Farah — a close friend of Bushra Bibi.

He said the nation's wealth was "looted and the then-first lady signed the documents without any fear".

"Why did Bahria Town transfer 458-kanal land to the Trust and 200-kanal land in Bani Gala to Farah Shehzadi," he questioned.

He said the impression created by [PTI leaders] was that the land was meant for the construction of a university, but said that no charter for any varsity was approved by the Punjab Assembly.

"The cabinet has now made the document public and an inquiry will be conducted into it before the investigators proceed further," the minister said.

The Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) has registered a money laundering case against PML-Q leader and former federal minister Moonis Elahi and others, it emerged on Wednesday.

Subsequently, Moonis' lawyer, Amir Saeed Rao told Dawn.com that the FIA's move would be challenged in the Lahore High Court as a case could "not be registered without a prior inquiry".

He also claimed that the case was based on "mala fide".

According to the FIA's first information report, a copy of which is available with Dawn.com, the case against Elahi was registered on Tuesday under Sections 34 (acts done by several persons in furtherance of a common intention), 109 (punishment for abetment), 420 (cheating and dishonestly inducing delivery of property), 468 (forgery for purpose of cheating) and 471 (using a genuine forged document) of the Pakistan Penal Code, read with Section 5(2) of the Prevention of Corruption Act, 1947 and Section 4 of the Anti-Money Laundering Act, 2010.

State, through the FIA Corporate Crime Circle in Lahore, has been named as the complainant in the FIR.

According to the FIR, the FIA's Anti-Corruption Circle in Lahore had registered an inquiry on August 7, 2020 pursuant to a report of the Sugar Inquiry Commission 2020.

The FIR said that in light of the report, the FIA was mandated by the federal government to probe financial and corporate frauds committed by various sugar mills, including Rahim Yar Khan (RYK)/Alliance Sugar Mills.

"During the ongoing probe against RYK/ Alliance Sugar Mills Group, it transpired that the following low-profile individuals — one of them had been at a very low level at the time — had jointly set up RYK Sugar Mills Ltd. in 2007/2008 at Rahim Yar Khan," the FIR stated.

It identified the individuals as Nawaz Bhatti and Mazhar Abbas.

The FIR added that the mill was "set up ostensibly by laundering funds from unexplained sources, including proceeds of financial crimes".

According to the FIR, the mill's capital increased by Rs720 million in 2008 but the source for these funds, as well as those required for the acquisition of land, import of plants and machinery and administrative expenses, remained "unexplained".

Between 2011 and 2014, the FIR continued, Nawaz and Abbas, who held the majority of the mill's shares at the time, disposed of their shares, but this transaction also remained unexplained.

"Record of banks examined so far has revealed that M. Nawaz Bhatti [Naid Qasid] and Mazhar Abbas had been signatory in multiple bank accounts with a turnover of Rs24 billion."

The FIR further stated that their shares, after passing through intermediaries, were acquired by two special purpose vehicles (SPVs), including Bhatti's nephew, Wajih Ahmed Khan Bhatti — who is an employee of the Punjab Assembly at present — and Cascade Tek Pvt Ltd.

An SPV is a subsidiary company that is formed to undertake a specific business purpose or activity.

"Both these SPVs are controlled by accused Ch Moonis Elahi (one directly and other one is controlled indirectly through his family member). This makes it evidently clear that accused M Nawaz Bhatti and Mazhar Abbass lent their identities and acted on behalf of Ch Moonis Elahi to disguise the origin and nature of ill-gotten funds/proceeds used to set up RYK Mills Ltd," the FIR said.

It added that records had further revealed that "Makhdum Omar Shehryar (Executive Director of the then proposed RYK Mills Ltd) applied for issuance of NOC (non-objection certificate) for setting up the sugar mill through an application to the Secretary Industries, Punjab on June 25, 2007 which was accordingly approved by the Ministry of Industries Punjab and CM Punjab Office in quick succession".

Incumbent Punjab Assembly Speaker and Moonis' father Pervaiz Elahi was the Punjab chief minister at the time and his "culpability will be determined during the investigation", the FIR said.

Moreover, it added that Shahryar and his brother-in-law Tarik Jawaid collectively held 30.59 per cent shares in the mill as of 2020, and "the origin and nature of their investment of ill-gotten funds/proceeds is also unexplained".

The inquiry substantiated, the FIR said, that Moonis, Bhatti, Abbas, Shehryar, Jawaid, Wajih and Muhammad Khan Bhatti have been involved in money laundering, the FIR concluded.

'Wait for me, I am coming'
After the case was registered, a defiant Moonis said in a tweet: "Do whatever you want. I appeared before [the FIA] and will appear again. Wait for me, I am coming."

While he did not name the FIA in the tweet that was in Urdu, he used the FIA hashtag, along with another one translating to "imported government is unacceptable".

On Sunday, multiple TV channels reported that the FIA had obtained “sufficient evidence” to launch a money laundering case against Moonis, but the news could not be independently verified at the time.

For his part, Moonis had described the reports as a “pressure tactic”.

He has said in a tweet at that time that “the PML-N’s pressure tactics will not be able to withdraw PML-Q’s support to former prime minister Imran Khan".

"The PML-N is at a loss to understand that it can pressure me to change my loyalty towards former premier and PTI chairman Imran Khan," he had said.

Separately, he had said while speaking to Dawn that the PML-N was in the “habit of instituting false and baseless cases” against his family.

Any such case would be seen as politically motivated and aimed at victimising him, he added. “All my business transactions are documented and lawful.”

Moonis claimed a message had been conveyed to him that he could make amends for his mistake by coming back. “Upon my refusal to withdraw support to Imran Khan, they have started putting pressure on me,” he added.

Ahead of the no-confidence vote against then-premier Imran Khan, PML-Q's Moonis Elahi and his father Parvez remained aligned with the PTI, while Chaudhry Shujaat Hussain, his son Chaudhry Salik Hussain and Tariq Bashir Cheema chose to join the new government of Shehbaz Sharif.

Moonis, since then, has been very vocal against the new dispensation, often taking to Twitter to pillory the "imported government".

PML-Q senior leader Moonis Elahi appeared on Thursday before the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) after it filed a money laundering case against him to the tune of Rs720 million.

Moonis is a former federal minister and son of Punjab Assembly Speaker Pervaiz Elahi. FIA booked him and others in the case following a report by the FIA's Anti-Corruption Circle.

After the case was filed, Moonis visited the FIA's office Wednesday night, but was told to appear the next morning.

The case
According to the FIR, a probe against Moonis under the Money Laundering Act was started two years ago.

The FIR further said that the report by the Sugar Commission said that Moonis was allegedly involved in money laundering.

Last year, former prime minister Imran Khan had tasked the FIA to investigate the sugar crisis throughout the country and find out who benefited from it.

Subsequently, a report by the agency released last year claimed that top PTI members as well as Moonis were among those who had allegedly gained from the sugar crisis in the country.

In addition, a money laundering case has been filed against Nawaz Bhatti, nephew of Muhammad Khan Bhatti, the secretary of Punjab Assembly, and Mazhar Iqbal, a peon at RYK Sugar Mills, said the FIR.

FIA said that both Bhatti and Iqbal have been arrested.

The FIR added that raids are being conducted for the arrest of another nephew of the Punjab Assembly secretary, Wajid Bhatti.

The development follows reports earlier this week that the FIA had decided to move against Moonis.

FIA sources said on Sunday that "sufficient evidence" has been collected against Moonis after which the agency decided to formally start an investigation against him.

Moonis' reaction
Responding to the development then, Moonis took to his official Twitter account and wrote "Bismillah" while sharing a screenshot of the news, indicating that he welcomes the move.

Today, he was just as defiant, tweeting: "Do what you will. I appeared (in court) before and will appear again. Wait for me. I am coming."

'Punishment for not listening to them'
Speaking to Geo News later, Moonis Elahi said he "received no notice" from the FIA and "would have appeared" before the FIA if he had.

He said that the investigation agency had "simply issued a press release" and he only found out from the media yesterday that an FIR had been filed against him.

"They missed a legal step and then sent out teams to arrest me," Moonis said.

"I told them why are you dispatching teams for my arrest. I myself will come over to the FIA office. Fuel has become so costly as it is, why waste it?" he added.

The PML-Q leader said that as he speaks, he is on his way from Islamabad to Lahore to go to FIA's office.

Without securing bail to evade arrest, former federal minister Chaudhry Moonis Elahi went to the Federal Investigation Agency’s (FIA) headquarters on Thursday and presented himself for interrogation in the money laundering case, whereafter he claimed that the case was meant to divert the public’s attention from Punjab budget.

During the interrogation, which lasted for more than four-and-a-half hours, he was asked various questions.

The Pakistan Muslim League-Quaid (PML-Q) leader, while speaking to the media persons on his return, said that he appeared before the agency himself a day ago, and was told to come at 8:30am on Thursday.

“I was told to come today at 8:30am; I arrived on time today,” he said, adding that he told them to ask him whatever they wanted to know because “I have the answer to every question”.

“When they ran out of questions, they started asking me the same question again and again,” he further said, adding that this case is just “an attempt to tarnish my image through a media trial”.

He also revealed that he has been given a questionnaire, which he will submit after consulting his lawyers.

To a question, the former federal minister said that the FIA wanted to arrest him. “If they want to investigate then they should have given me a notice first, but no notice was served by the FIA till date,” he said.

“I came to them myself to ask them about the matter, so they gave me a questionnaire,” he added.

Elahi said that he went to the headquarters to tell the agency that if they want to interrogate him further then they simply needed to tell him when to come again.

“There is no need for such a spectacle,” he added.

He said that the whole “drama” was staged to divert the public’s attention from the “unconstitutional” budget session convened by the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) at Aiwan-e-Iqbal.

He cited his pro-Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf stance as the reason for the case, adding that “if I support the PML-N today, these dramas will end immediately”.

The PML-Q leader said that his tax returns and all records were regularly submitted to the Federal Board of Revenue and the Election Commission of Pakistan.

The PTI on Sunday demanded the formation of a judicial commission to probe into the recent statement of Federal Minister Khurram Dastagir wherein he had claimed that party chairman and deposed premier Imran Khan was ousted because of his plan to extend his rule by having political opponents disqualified by 2022.

The minister made the claim on a TV show, just a couple of months after removing Imran through a no-confidence motion.

While referring to a “big change” at the end of the year – a tacit reference to the appointment of a new army chief – and Imran’s plan to hire 100 judges to expedite cases against his political opponents, Dastagir had maintained that the PTI chief’s “fascist plans” pushed the then opposition to oust him and come into power.

Dastagir had further claimed that the opposition became united on the basis of “serious information”. “Imran’s ‘fascist plans’ including the mass disqualification of opponents, had made it clear to the rival politicians that he would rule for the next 15 years.”

The minister had maintained that PML-N President Shehbaz Sharif – the incumbent prime minister – and other senior leadership of other parties would have been disqualified by the end of the year and left an open field for Imran in the next general elections.

Citing other reasons, including massive subsidy on fuel by the PTI government, Dastagir had said the then opposition could not wait any longer more as the country’s economy was slumping further and facing the threat of default. He had added that the decision was made in a larger context knowing that the political capital was at stake.

The minister’s recent statement has not only triggered a new debate about the united-opposition-turned coalition government’s narrative against the PTI’s performance but also prompted Imran’s former aide and PTI leader Shahbaz Gill to demand a judicial commission to probe into it as Dastagir had allegedly tried to drag the military into politics.

In the recent past, the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) spokesperson, while announcing that the incumbent army chief would retire on November 29, has repeatedly claimed that the military had nothing to do with politics and it should not be dragged into political matters.

However, the neutrality of the powers that be has frequently been discussed since the united opposition joined hands to send the PTI-led government packing.

Imran had termed neutrality “a trait of animals”, saying the powerful stakeholders could not stay neutral in the face of a “foreign conspiracy”.

Addressing a news conference, Gill said it had become evident after Dastagir’s “confession” that the then opposition “did not conspire to oust the PTI government for the betterment of the county but to secure a second NRO [amnesty from corruption charges]”.

Gill went on to say that the “crooked and corrupt gangs” hatched a conspiracy against Imran to protect their “loot”.

The former PM’s aide demanded that Dastagir should be asked about why he had concerns about the change of the army chief, adding that the “thieves” knew that Imran had come close to their accountability and therefore they conspired against him. “Khurram Dastagir tried to drag the army into politics and action should be taken against him.”

Political analyst Amir Rana, while commenting on Dastagir’s statement, said it could be an excuse to take over the power in critical times.

“Though Imran Khan has dictatorial tendencies, but he is not capable to conceive and craft a strategy for such an ambitious plan alone.”

However, Rana added that Dastagir’s statement could be conceded a serious issue if it was based on authentic information.

A banking court in Lahore on Wednesday accepted the interim bail request of PML-Q senior leader Moonis Elahi in a case pertaining to alleged money laundering worth Rs720 million.

The Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) had filed a case against former federal minister Moonis and others last week. The case, according to the agency, pertains to alleged money laundering of Rs720 million.

The court directed Moonis to submit Rs500,000 as a surety against the bail till July 4.

The Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) investigation into PML-Q leader Moonis Elahi’s money laundering case has revealed that alleged frontman, Nawaz Bhatti, was a signatory of at least 32 bank accounts with a credit turnover of around Rs24 billion.

However, Moonis has denied any links to alleged frontmen Bhatti and Mazhar Abbas, who according to the FIA, allowed him to borrow their identities to set up the Rahim Yar Khan (RYK) Sugar Mills Ltd from his allegedly ill-gotten wealth.

Earlier this month, The FIA had registered a money laundering case against the former federal minister others in a case pertaining to his alleged involvement in a scam to the tune of Rs720 million.

The investigation agency had also arrested Bhatti and Abbas on the charges that the two men used to facilitate the PML-Q leader to embezzle money.

According to the FIA's FIR, the case against Moonis was registered on June 14 under Sections 34 (acts done by several persons in furtherance of a common intention), 109 (punishment for abetment), 420 (cheating and dishonestly inducing delivery of property), 468 (forgery for purpose of cheating) and 471 (using a genuine forged document) of the Pakistan Penal Code, read with Section 5(2) of the Prevention of Corruption Act, 1947 and Section 4 of the Anti-Money Laundering Act, 2010.

The agency had also accused Moonis of using ‘hundi’ to transfer money out of Pakistan, saying it had "solid evidence" against the former minister.

In his response submitted on Thursday to the 33 questions asked by the agency, Moonis has claimed that he did not know Bhatti and Abbas.

He also maintained that he had no knowledge of whether he or his family had helped Abbas secure his job.

He further denied knowing that the two held shares in the RYK Sugar Mills and if he had provided any financial assistance to them.

The PML-Q leader further denied using the influence of his father — former Punjab chief minister Parvez Elahi — to secure a no-objection certificate for setting up the RYK Sugar Mills.

Replying to a question on the facts of the case indicating that an orchestrated scheme was employed to disguise the beneficiaries of the RYK Sugar Mills, Moonis said the allegation was "incorrect and misconceived" as all his shares were "duly declared".

The FIR had said its Anti-Corruption Circle in Lahore registered an inquiry on August 7, 2020 pursuant to a report of the Sugar Inquiry Commission 2020.

It had added that in light of the report, the FIA was mandated by the federal government to probe financial and corporate frauds committed by various sugar mills, including the RYK Sugar Mills.

"During the ongoing probe against RYK/Alliance Sugar Mills Group, it transpired that the following low-profile individuals — one of them had been at a very low level at the time — had jointly set up RYK Sugar Mills Ltd. in 2007/2008 at Rahim Yar Khan," the FIR had stated.

The FIR had added that the mill was "set up ostensibly by laundering funds from unexplained sources, including proceeds of financial crimes".

It further said that the mill's capital increased by Rs720 million in 2008 but the source for these funds, as well as those required for the acquisition of land, import of plants and machinery and administrative expenses, remained "unexplained".

Toshakhana reference: NA Speaker to give decision within 30 days, says Ayaz
Ayaz Sadiq says that following the NA speaker’s decision, the reference will be forwarded to the ECP

LAHORE: Federal Minister for Economic Affairs Sardar Ayaz Sadiq said on Sunday that the Toshakhana Reference had been submitted to the National Assembly Speaker, who will announce a decision within 30 days. He said that following the NA speaker’s decision, the reference will be forwarded to the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP). He was addressing a press conference along with Minister for Railways Khawaja Saad Rafique on Sunday.

Sardar Ayaz Sadiq said when Imran Khan was in power, he “sat down with former US president Donald Trump and signed a deal on Kashmir.” He further said that the previous government had inflicted “considerable damage to the country’s economy by not signing agreements to purchase oil at cheaper rates.”

“We will block the way of those who want to spread chaos in the country,” he said, adding that during Khan’s tenure, the country’s foreign relations were damaged because “all the countries had reservations about the-then government.”

The minister further said that since Khan had “uttered words against the country,” the coalition government would approach the Supreme Court of Pakistan.

On the occasion, Minister for Railways Khawaja Saad Rafique criticised PTI Chairman Imran Khan and said while he was “apparently” a democratic leader, he has said that the previous government, led by the PTI, had “destroyed” the railways system of the country. “The Imran mafia and his political clowns have damaged the country,” he maintained, adding that while PTI leaders accuse members of other political parties of being thieves, they “themselves are the biggest thieves” the country had ever witnessed.

“They live in 300-kanal houses but pay negligible income taxes,” Rafique said. He further berated Khan and said while he criticises the children of other politicians for living abroad, his own sons are living in London. “Do your own sons live in Kala Shah Kaku?” he asked, adding that PTI leaders are “worse than dictators” because they “hurl abuses at anyone who disagrees with them.”

He further said that the incumbent government is compelled to go to other countries to ask for monetary help because of Khan’s incompetence. “In turn, those who have to fix Khan’s mess have been labelled as traitors,” Rafique said.

The railways minister added while Khan kept crying foul about a “foreign conspiracy” that led to his ouster, everything to remove his government was carried out in a constitutional way. “It was, indeed, our demand to hold elections in the country,” he said, adding that it was the PMLN government that had introduced the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC), but when the PTI came into power, it “froze all the projects.”

“Khan has pushed the country into a whirlpool, yet he acts like a saviour,” Rafique alleged. He then criticised Khan for demanding state institutions intervene in political matters. “You openly say that institutions should bring a change in the country,” he said. “Whose agenda are you working on?”

Meanwhile, Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) central leader and former federal minister Farrukh Habib said the PTI opponents have nothing against Imran Khan except Toshakhana. In a statement, the PTI leader further said that the opponents should know that Imran Khan’s signed bat sells for crores of rupees. He said that Imran Khan has given an account of his 40 years of earnings in the Supreme Court. Farrukh Habib said that the present rulers should expose our corruption, but they only hold press conferences.

Toshakhana was supposed to be the smoking gun but now its a noose around the neck of the crooks because sooner or later they will have to release all the gifts taken since 1947. And we will see that they literally stole the gifts. I guarantee that they will fight tooth and nail to avoid their thefts coming out.

The Anti-Corruption Establishment (ACE) has opened investigation against Ahmad Mujtaba – brother of PTI Chairman Imran Khan’s wife Bushra Bibi – in a corruption case.

Mujtaba had allegedly given government land on lease through his front man.

According to details available with The Express Tribune, the accused had occupied the government land through a market committee chairman Tahir Zahoor. Later, he got the shops constructed there.

Mujtaba along with other accused had been asked to appear before an ACE investigation team on July 6.

A copy of summons available with The Express Tribune asked Mujtaba, Zahoor, secretary Tahir Tanveer and eight other accused persons to appear before regional director ACE Sahiwal in an FIR 14/2022 against the offences of 420 (fraud), 409 (criminal breach of trust by public servant, or by banker, merchant or agent), 166 (public servant disobeying law, with intent to cause injury to any person) of Pakistan Penal Code (PPC) and other offences.

Mujtaba’s sister Bushra Bibi has been under spotlight especially on social media after a purported audio conversation with PTI digital media head Arsalan Khalid surfaced, urging him to accuse the former opposition parties of “treason”.

Ministry starts probe into Pakistan Steel Mills' affairs under PTI govt

ISLAMABAD: In compliance with the Public Accou*nts Committee’s (PAC) direction, the Ministry of Industries and Production has asked the Pakistan Steels Mills (PSM) CEO to submit a report on the alleged negligence of senior officials that cost Rs284 billion to the national exchequer.

The PAC took notice of the matter on a complaint filed by the mill’s Peoples Workers Union (PWU) and issued directions on June 1. In a June 7 letter written to the Pakistan Steel Mills, the industries ministry highlighted the events from 2018 to 2022 in the PSM and said it would help “expose the conspiracy nexus between the PTI government and Arif Habib Group.”

The ministry said the PTI government had always blamed the PSM’s failure on its human resources, which was “unjustified” because the mill’s workers were trained and responsible and always acted as per the management’s order.

The PSM is under the administrative control of the Ministry of Industries and Production, with its secretary being the principal accounts officer (PAO), who is responsible for appointing and monitoring the performance of the board of directors (BoD) and top-tier management.

The PWU said in its complaint that after 2018, the BoD mostly appointed non-professional “men of choice who don’t know the functions of an integrated steel plant”.

It lamented that a recommendation made to the industries ministry for the post of CEO was for PSM’s revival, but he was neither a metallurgist nor did he have any experience regarding an integrated steel plant.

Therefore, the PWU said, the appointment violated the Pakistan Steel Officers Services Rules, the Public Sector Companies (Cor*porate Governance) Rules 2013 and the Public Sector Companies (Appointment of Chief Executive) Guideline 2015. It also alleged that the industries ministry never monitored the BoD’s and top management’s performance, which was evident from the steel mill’s audited accounts from 2018 to 2021.

While asserting that a CEO was responsible for a company’s profit or loss, the union said the ministry’s disinterest in monitoring the mills’ management performance led to a loss of Rs284bn during the PTI government’s 44-month tenure.

It recalled that during the election campaign of 2018, former prime minister Imran Khan and PTI leader Asad Umar promised that their government would revive the PSM but then “they failed to keep their promise after coming to power”.

The PWU also appealed for the removal of the PSM’s board of directors and management and sought an FIA investigation into the alleged theft of items worth more than Rs10bn and identify those responsible.
