Nawaz accuses Imran’s ‘backstabbing’ in 2013, says PTI should’ve shared reservations rather than ‘hatch conspiracy’

PML-N supremo Nawaz Sharif on Saturday accused incarcerated PTI founder Imran Khan of “stabbing me in the back” by carrying out processions and rallies after assuring his cooperation post-2013 elections.

Addressing a meeting of the PML-N’s Central Working Committee (CWC) in Lahore, Nawaz said that upon assuming power in 2013, the first thing he did was go and visit Imran in Banigala to agree on working together for the country’s sake.

Nawaz said Imran subsequently went to London, along with other political figures of the time, and then a “plot was hatched”, after which protests were launched in the country upon the PTI founder’s return.

The PML-N supremo said he was left befuddled by the development and said he should have been informed and told about the matter or whatever the PTI’s reservations were.

“I visit you and you stab me in the back by assuring cooperation and then you begin protests in Islamabad’s D-Chowk?”

Nawaz said his cabinet members had called for police force against the protests but he had told them to desist. Despite this, Nawaz said his government managed to secure the historic China Pakistan Economic Corridor project.

The PML-N supremo said it was a “matter of record” that his government had not impeded the formation of the PTI government in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa after the 2013 elections despite being in the position to do so through a coalition.

Nawaz said he was omitting a lot of details and only wanted to ask one thing, “three people sit down and disqualify a prime minister representing 250 million people for life.”

He said judges could not remove prime ministers or presidents in any other country of the world but here he was removed on a “small matter of not taking salary from my son”. “Who will answer for this?” he said, adding that he had the right to ask this question.

Nawaz also referred to the early resignations of former Supreme Court judges Ijazul Ahsan and Mazahar Naqvi, saying they should be questioned why they resigned before their tenures and that legal proceedings should be conducted against the latter for his alleged financial misconduct.

“We call for accountability of those who destroyed and ruined Pakistan.”

Regaling the economic performance of his past government tenures, Nawaz asked the nation which political party had best served them and said it should think about these matters before casting their votes.

“I have the right to ask my nation this question that do you think before voting what Nawaz Sharif’s performance was and what was that of his opponents? … the nation should answer this. I have a slight complaint with the nation as well. A prime minister is removed in a false case of not taking a salary from his son and the nation stays silent, this is not right.”

Nawaz said he was very happy to see the PML-N leaders gathered during the event. He said it had been some time since the PML-N collective had last assembled in such numbers.

“It is very good that the leadership of every province is present here. We have gathered after a long time,” he said, adding that everyone had faced problems of their own from exile to fraudulent legal proceedings.

He commended his party leaders for bravely facing their tribulations, adding that the party’s fortunes had now reversed and PML-N workers once facing cases were now sitting in the assemblies with some holding constitutional offices as well.

Nawaz said false cases against the party were “exposed”. He concluded his speech by lauding the performance of Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and predicting a turnaround in the country’s fortunes.

The CWK earlier accepted PM Shehbaz’s resignation from the party’s presidency and nominated him as acting president.

On Monday, PM Shebaz had stepped aside from the PML-N presidency, stating that “the time has come” for his brother to retake his “rightful place as the president of the party”.

Nawaz was removed as the president of the party in 2018 after a Supreme Court (SC) bench headed by then-chief justice of Pakistan (CJP) Mian Saqib Nisar ruled that an individual disqualified under Articles 62 and 63 of the Constitution cannot serve as head of a political party.

Last month, the PML-N’s Punjab President Rana Sanaullah requested party supremo Nawaz Sharif to assume its presidency after his relief in legal cases against him.

PML-N’s General Council has been convened at 11am on May 28, which is when Nawaz will be elected president, according to party leadership.

Rana Sanaullah has been nominated as the party’s chief election commissioner.

The developments came as the party held a meeting in Model Town, Lahore, which lasted more than an hour and a half.

The meeting was attended by several PML-N leaders, including Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz, Foreign Minster and Deputy Prime Minister Ishaq Dar, Khawaja Saad Rafique, as well as more than 109 members of the CWK from all four provinces, Azad Kashmir and Gilgit-Baltistan.

In the meeting, which was presided over by PML-N leader Ahsan Iqbal, the acceptance of Shehbaz’s resignation was announced. Praise was meted out for taking care of the party for seven years.

Following that, Shehbaz’s name was proposed by party leaders as party president, which was supported by other members, including Nawaz Sharif.

According to party leadership, Nawaz will be the final president of the party, but in keeping with party rules, Shehbaz Sharif was nominated as party president.

@Bewal Express What would you like to say to Nawaz Sharif here?
Apologise to the country for the London plan, apologise for appointing thugs, apologise for his conspiracy with CJP to steal the election with the appointment of ROs, apologise for 9th May conspiracy against PK by him and thr establishment. This should be enough to get started

What about the money they allegedly looted, according to PTI?

I wonder if such things will ever end from Pakistani politics.

PTI had instructions, just like the one you got when you put your brother in power. You lot are all puppets whose strings are pulled by people way more powerful.

PTI founder major hurdle in talks, says Nawaz Sharif

Nawaz Sharif has called the PTI’s founder as major hurdle in talks as details of the PML-N senators meeting with the party’s leader surfaced.

Sources said that the senate members of Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz asked about the party’s policy with regard to dialogue with the PTI.

“When they are not serious, how could anyone hold talks with them,” Nawaz said in his reply.

Talking to PML-N Senate members Nawaz Sharif said, “Those who were taunting us have destroyed democracy”.

“I have called on him at his home to offer him to work together,” former PM said. “I will send Nawaz Sharif in jail, will remove his AC, now you are in jail, I didn’t even give heed to it,” Nawaz said. “I have no objection if you get two ACs instead of one,” PML-N chief said.

He said the PML-N and the PPP even join hands to form a government, but his behaviour always remains like an estranged person.

Nawaz Sharif said, “I was rewarded with jail sentence for conducting nuclear tests”. “Musharraf has not been in the world, I have no grudge against him”, Sharif said.

“Those calling metro bus as jangla bus, destroyed the country. We said farewell to the IMF, they brought it back again,” Nawaz Sharif said.

“I will advise Shehbaz Sharif to bring a cheaper electricity. Maryam Nawaz has played role to control the price hike, I will tell her to invest Punjab’s money on its people”, PML-N chief said.

So IK should hold talks with someone who used the faujis to get back to power for the fourth time?

The people didn't give IK 2/3rd majority for him to talk with irrelevant people like Nawaz Sharif.

The fight is being PTI and Establishment, PML-N and the rest of the PDM parties aren't even in the picture.

Nawaz Sharif won NA-130 by 74,000 bogus votes: Yasmin Rashid’s counsel

Addressing a presser, former Attorney General Punjab and Yasmin Rashid’s counsel, Ahmed Owais said that the ‘electoral fraud’ was committed on February 8 in NA-130 (Lahore).

“Around 74,000 more votes were cast than the total number of votes to ensure the victory of Nawaz Sharif,” he added. Ahmed Owais said that the final result revealed a significant increase in Nawaz Sharif’s vote count from the majority of polling stations.

He said that after the May 9 riots, Yasmeen Rashid was arrested in ‘fabricated’ case. “If she (Yasmin Rashid) was involved, she would have been punished by now, but the government does not have any evidence against her,” Ahmed Owais.

It is pertinent to mention here that Nawaz Sharif had clinched the seat by grabbing 179,310 votes against PTI-backed Dr Yasmin Rashid who could get 104,485 votes in the general elections held on February 8.

Yasmin Rashid challenged Nawaz’s victory in the Election Commission of Pakistan as well as the Lahore High Court.

Earlier, a civil society organisation PATTAN said that Lahore’s NA-130 constituency, where PML-N president Nawaz Sharif defeated PTI’s Yasmin Rashid in general elections 2024, is likely to have experienced the ‘worst form of rigging’ in the electoral history of Punjab.

“The National Assembly constituency NA-130 of Lahore is likely to have experienced the worst form of rigging ever happened in the electoral history of Punjab since 2002 general elections as on many Form-45s the turnout for NA130 was between 90 per cent and 102pc, while for provincial assembly seats about 40pc,” the PATTAN said in a report.

The organisation claimed the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) seemingly increased Nawaz Sharif’s share in polled votes on Forms-45s which compelled the election officials to increase the overall turnout too for the same polling stations, and eventually that forced them to prepare the fake Form-47.

Lol..so stupid of him to blame PTI for all of this misery

Former prime minister and Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-NN) President Nawaz Sharif has termed the rising electricity bills as "unbearable" for the public, stressing the need for immediate relief

In a crucial consultative meeting held at the party secretariat in Lahore’s Model Town on Thursday, Nawaz Sharif chaired discussions that included Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and other senior PML-N leaders. The focus of the meeting was on providing relief to the public amid soaring inflation, particularly the high cost of electricity.

"These expensive electricity bills are intolerable for the people," Nawaz Sharif stated during the meeting. He blamed the PTI government for the economic devastation that led to inflation and skyrocketing bills, adding, "Despite the challenges, people expect relief from us."

Nawaz Sharif acknowledged that the current situation is a test of the party's abilities. "It is a testament to your patriotism that you made political sacrifices to save the country from default and bring back economic stability," he said.

He emphasised that just as the party saved the country from default, it now faces the challenge of protecting the people from financial ruin. "The PML-N has always found a way through difficulties," he added.

Prime Minister Shehbaz briefed the party president on the national economic agenda, highlighting that a comprehensive plan has been developed to address the country's issues. He informed that a three-month relief package has been introduced for electricity consumers using up to 200 units, covering both protected and non-protected categories.

Nawaz Sharif blames Imran Khan-led govt for skyrocketing inflation

Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) supremo Nawaz Sharif has attributed the skyrocketing cost of living to the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) government, saying that it was the Imran Khan-led regime that brought the International Monetary Fund (IMF) back to the country.

Addressing a press conference flanked by Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz in Lahore on Friday, the three-time prime minister said that the issue of price hike commenced in the PTI government, adding that he knows about the pain the people of Pakistan are going through.

The PML-N's top leader said he recalls the time in 2017 when there was no price hike issue with people living an easy and comfortable life, adding that he became premier in 2013, his government worked on the economy, making it one of the world's best-performing economies.

'Imran Khan bearing brunt of his wrongdoings', says Nawaz Sharif

Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) Supremo Nawaz Sharif launched a tirade against Pakistan Tehreeke-e-Insaf (PTI) Founder Imran Khan saying “The man who stood there and threatened to pull out an elected prime minister with a rope is now behind bars."

The PML-N chief made these remarks during the launch ceremony of the Punjab government’s "Apni Chhat, Apna Ghar" scheme in Lahore.

The deposed premier went on to say "He should be asked what he has done for the people of KP. Where are the one billion trees? Where are the big development schemes?" said Sharif, referring to Imran Khan’s promises during his tenure.

Mr Nawaz continued his critique, aiming the Punjab-KP divide. "There are talks of Punjab being invaded by KP's government—do they want to start a war between the provinces? Bloodshed will not be allowed," he warned.

Sharif also compared PML-N’s governance record with that of PTI, saying, “We said goodbye to the IMF, but our opponents brought it back. There's a stark difference between the politics of service and the politics of lies."

He accused PTI of being violent and ineffective, saying, “These people are number one in violence and zero in performance."

Nawaz challenges Imran to name single development project under his govt

Former Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif criticised the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) government’s track record on development and economic stability, questioning the absence of major public projects under Imran Khan’s leadership.

Speaking to Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) supporters in New York, Nawaz called on Imran to 'name a single project initiated for Pakistan’s progress.'

Sharif contrasted the PTI’s record with the PML-N’s work in Punjab, where, he stated, his government had provided Rs 40-50 billion in relief on electricity bills.

He further pointed out that the PML-N’s administration expanded Pakistan’s motorway network, including the first and most recent motorways connecting cities like Peshawar, Lahore, and Multan.

“We took the growth rate to 5.8% and aimed for 7%,” Nawaz said, claiming that PML-N's 2018 tenure ended with the dollar at Rs104 and an interest rate of 5.25%. He balmed the PTI for pushing the dollar above Rs300 and raising interest rates to 23%, leading to economic setbacks.

Nawaz also highlighted that during his tenure, Pakistan’s foreign exchange reserves reached record highs, and the country was able to distance itself from the IMF.

He alleged that the PTI’s policies damaged Pakistan’s foreign relations and failed to deliver on development projects, especially in K-P.

According to Nawaz, PML-N’s infrastructure contributions include extensive road networks in Balochistan, the Hazara motorway, and the Attabad Lake tunnel.

Nawaz quietly embarks on multi-country tour

Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) President Nawaz Sharif embarked on a multi-country tour on October 25, coinciding with the retirement of Chief Justice Qazi Faiz Isa.

Notably, Sharif’s return to Pakistan earlier this year also followed closely after Justice Isa assumed office, raising speculation over the timing of his movements.

For months, rumours circulated about Sharif’s intended departure for a medical check-up in London, with party leaders confirming only that such a visit was indeed due. Despite frequent media inquiries, no details of his itinerary were disclosed by party representatives, maintaining an unusual silence over the specifics of Sharif’s plans.

Media reports indicate that Sharif departed from Pakistan on an Emirates flight to Dubai, from where he will travel to London for a medical examination.

Following his London visit, he is reportedly set to leave for the United States by October 29, where he is expected to stay for around four days before returning to London. After this, Chief Minister of Punjab Maryam Nawaz and other family members are anticipated to join him for a European tour.

Sharif’s departure also comes amid a key constitutional amendment that prevented Justice Mansoor Ali Shah from assuming the chief justice role after Justice Isa’s retirement. The government, lacking sufficient parliamentary support, allegedly considered unconventional tactics, including alleged “horse-trading” to secure votes.

The possibility of floor-crossing was legally enabled by a recent decision by the outgoing Chief Justice Isa, who reversed an earlier Supreme Court ruling on Article 63-A of the Constitution, effectively allowing lawmakers to cross the floor without automatic disqualification.

In an unexpected twist, Sharif’s quiet exit has avoided significant mainstream media coverage, marking a departure from the typically high-profile nature of his travels.

'Nothing but disrepute to country': Nawaz takes a dig at Imran's 'final protest' call

Reacting to jailed PTI founder Imran Khan's "final protest" call, PML-N President Nawaz Sharif asked why people would take to the streets on his call when the former premier did nothing except "bringing disrepute to the country" during his nearly four years in power.

"What Imran Khan has done during his tenure that people would take to the streets on his call. Tell me a single [development] project that he could proudly present as evidence of development during his tenure," the former premier said in an informal interaction with reporters in London.

Those resorting to protest won’t succeed, says Nawaz Sharif

Former prime minister and Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) President Nawaz Sharif, Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz and others left for Pakistan on Saturday.

Dr. Adnan and Junaid Safdar have also been accompanying with them.

Before his departure for Pakistan talking to media, Nawaz Sharif said that those resorting to protest will not succeed.

Nawaz Sharif had arrived in UK on October 26. He left for US after two days of his arrival in Britain.

The former prime minister with daughter Maryam Nawaz returned to London from their Europe visit on November 12.

Nawaz Sharif talking to media said, “we would bring improvement if our government not interrupted”.

“PTI did nothing except bringing disrepute to Pakistan,” he said.

“What didn’t commit by the PTI’s founder against us in collaboration with Qamar Bajwa and Faiz Hameed,” he questioned.

“An elected prime minister was removed from office in connivance with the judiciary,” Nawaz Sharif said.

“We have suffered worst atrocities and victimization,” he added.

Former prime minister in an earlier media talk said that indicators show that Pakistan’s economy is recovering. Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif left no stone unturned to steer the country out of quagmire of economic crisis, he added.

The PML-N chief said his party knew the economic woes of the people of Pakistan and it would provide them relief from inflated power bills and inflation.

Nawaz asks Shehbaz to focus on national interest in PTI talks

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif held an important meeting with PML-N President Nawaz Sharif in Lahore on Sunday.

During the meeting held at Jati Umra, the two leaders discussed the country’s political situation and key matters, including negotiations with the PTI.

Nawaz Sharif stressed the need for unity, stating that everyone must work together for the country. He instructed the prime minister to prioritise national interests during negotiations.

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif briefed Nawaz Sharif on the progress of the ongoing talks and provided updates on the country’s economic situation, stating that conditions have improved and are moving in a positive direction.

Earlier, senior PML-N leader Senator Irfan Siddiqui said that backdoor talks and open dialogue can’t go side by side.

Taking to X, formerly Twitter, the spokesperson for the government’s negotiation committee said that he is very well aware of details of meeting between PTI’s Barrister Gohar and Chief of Army Staff Asim Munir.

He said that both Imran Khan and Aleema Khan have termed the ‘backdoor’ talks with army chief satisfactory.

He urged the PTI to ask its negotiating team to quit the dialogue if their talks are satisfactory with the military leadership.

The PML-N leader said that the PTI was desperately trying to meet the COAS.

Imran khan is not even half the politician that sharif is. He lacks political maturity, extremely selfish and does not care about national interests.

Both are awful tho and pakistan is cooked.
