While Modi's government has been propagating hate against Pakistan, artists across the borders have been hoping for cordial relations between the countries. Many stars among Amitabh Bachchan are vouching for Indo-Pak peace. The Bollywood megastar recently penned a letter where he speaks about how the countrymen on both sides of the border hope for better political scenarios.

The Kabhi Khushi Kabhie Gham star, in the piece published in The Indian Express, wrote about the impact of Indian cricketer Virat Kohli's hug for Pakistan cricketer Mohammad Rizwan during the recent T20 world cup.

“For, the stories we tell can often become larger than us, and they can skip lightly across borders, sometimes riding on cricket, sometimes through film. Sometimes they nestle in the warmth of the hug that went viral, that India’s captain Virat Kohli gave to Pakistan’s Mohammad Rizwan and Babar Azam, after the men in green defeated the men in blue in the first game of the T20 World Cup that concluded in Dubai recently,” he wrote.

The actor also mentioned the power of films, including Salman Khan's Bajrangi Bhaijaan. “Sometimes they revel in the smashing box office success, in India and also in Pakistan, of the 2015 Salman Khan-starrer Bajrangi Bhaijaan, a cross-border tale about empathy and compassion, an Indian man’s struggle to reunite a Pakistani child with her family.”

Dia Mirza reacted to Bachchan's piece and wrote, "A truly wonderful piece by Amitabh Bachchan. 'Freedom from fear means that we are more at ease with our neighbours, and also with ourselves.’”

Back in the day, Amitabh was a big hero to all desis who ever watched Bollywood movies. I no longer watch Bollywood and haven't done so for years due to the hate.

I also think Amitabh veered towards to the right wing in his latter years, reminds me of the Charlton Heston situation. But good to see the old fella speaking positively.

I feel that the artist community really have no ill-will, but they cannot really speak their mind on these matters too openly as it can effect their livelihood.

He was literally the brand ambassador of Aman Ki Asha in India lol, I remember the hate he got online for that .

AB should stay out of this ,2-3 times he has tried this and it didn’t workout and instead he gets trolled.

How convinient for tribune.pk to say Modi govt spreading hate against Pakistan while ignoring hate rants that Imran Khan dishes out from his twitter account everyday. If someone looks into Modi's twitter, there not a single derogatory word against Pakistan.

All Modi is doing is fulfilling the election mandate he promised to Indians based on which people voted him. Let it be abrogation of Article 370, adopting CAA, Ayodhya, curbing corruption, 100% rural electrification, space missions, FDIs etc etc. Has he been successful in all of them? Ofcourse not but cant fault him being a honest trier.

How is he propagating hate against Pakistan? In Imran's own word he didnt even pick up the phone call from Imran, that much insignificant Pakistan is for Modi. Tribune.pk is misinformed unfortunately.

Think you missed the whole story.

Read again and put in a proper comment.

Imran Khan is facing severe domestic pressure due to high inflation, economic slowdown and rising debt. So he needs to keep ranting against India on twitter to divert attention

Same trick often used by Modi in India - although after colossal covid mismanagement Indian voters are not falling for his tricks so easily any more

Kohli is a good and honest man. He plays hard like he should then accepts the result like a man. As for Amitabh I am afraid during the 1984 anti Sikh riots after Indira Gandhi's assassination he was telling the Hindu's "khoon ka badla khoon" when vouching for Sikh blood. Many Sikh's are fully aware of this.

This man wants peace with Pak?. I don't think so, its is just to enhance his imagine when in reality he is a Hindu fanatic.

Except, Indian narrative doesn’t sell in Pakistan against domestic issues. His criticism of India is neither for diversion nor disconnect with general population of Pakistan.

People of Pak care about only Kashmir and even that is not sellable by any politician in Pakistan against domestic issues.

In India, vast majority, particularly those who subscribed to RSS, politician have an easier time selling Pakistani narrative. And it seem, almost everyone in India, tolerant Hindu, Hindutva and even atheists are somewhat influenced by RSS and would either overlook violence promoted by Modi/BJP, or would support it silently or vocally.

I dont know Pakistan awaam but find it weird why ur PM is so obsessed with India

Its not just Kashmir. When India and China had border conflict - Imran decided to poke his nose in. When India was struggling with Covid Imran was mocking India. When petrol prices increased , his party was comparing prices with India. when India was all out for 36 at Adelaide, his official party handle posted tweets mocking India. I can understand trolls and PPers mocking Indian cricket team for that 36 all out. But official PTI account - it was really cringe. Also check out that guy Fawad Chaudhry - its seems his only job us to troll India

Recently ur finance ministry spokesperson made video comparing Pakistani prices with Indian prices

Makes me wonder why so much concern with India unless it helps u get traction with voters

He has always been an opportunist tbh, plays all sides equally. Was very close to the Nehru clan in 70s and 80s, IIRC even contested against Vajpayee in one of the general elections. Later had a fall out with Sonia Gandhi.

These days he doesn't mind being clicked with BJP or Shiv Sena, latter though is a necessity for celebs based in Mumbai. Even Bollywood Khans are close to Thackeray family members who are basically like the Corleones of Mumbai, ask Javed Miandad.

At the same time Big B is close to some NCP bigwigs, NCP is the anti-BJP party in Maharashtra. And his wife is a Rajya Sabha MP from UP's Samajwadi party, one of the fiercest and most formidable anti-BJP parties in India. Often you'll see Jaya Bachchan giving anti-BJP/Modi statements and same day Amitabh will be in a party with some BJP leader or appear in a BJP government ad.

These super rich celebs know how to protect their interests. Very rarely do they care about ideology, or at least they aren't too attached.

This bolded part is what I was referring to, but I also see the point of Big B clicking with whomever furthers his interests.

I understood a few decades ago, the Muslim underworld from south Mumbai was also close to Bollywood, funding and running protection rackets etc.

Is this connection no longer there as this would be a conflict of interest if the shiv are involved?

Amitabh Bachchan is basically close to whoever in power. He got into big financial trouble with the tax authorities in the 90s and since then he has maintained cordial relations with the ruling powers

The underworld's clout has declined, you only have weak remnants of that group especially after the Bombay blasts in 1993. Most of the big players have moved out of India and noose has tightened around their supporters in India.

Shiv Sena has gradually replaced the underworld especially when it comes to extortion and protection rackets. Very close to Bollywood as well. Sharad Pawar's NCP (many ex-underworld figures have moved here or at least there are strong links) is another goon party but their business lies elsewhere and also mostly based outside Mumbai.

Amitabh was very very close to Rajiv Gandhi back then but bolded bit is more of a myth. Till date it hasn't been proved that he said that.

It went to court and there was a video circulating around but it proved to be doctored footage, a hoax basically.

Most bollywood stars would talk about good relations with Pakistan. Why?

1. Pakistanis are their audience in countries outside India.

2. Keeps them in the good books of the LeLi lobby, who they need when they get in trouble.

Correction: He contested and won against Hemwati Nandan Bahuguna, former UP CM. His victory margin of 1.87L votes is still the highest ever recorded from that LS seat (Allahabad).

Thanks for the info, for some reason I thought it was against Vajpayee.

The point is he was calling for the murder of Sikh's during the 1984 riots. More shocking still was his mother was a Sikh believer.

What about the Sikh's who witnessed him say it? There is no reason why anyone would make such a thing up. These were even pre home video days, hard to find such evidence in those days.

The case against Amitabh Bachchan is actually very weak. Mostly case of few witnesses and hearsay. Even most prominent Sikh activists who are fighting for 1984 victims never discuss Amitabh Bacchant's name in the riots

Not saying it conclusively proves Bachchan was innocent but looks very unlikely he was involved. More of a case of his name getting dragged in bcoz of his close family ties with Nehru Gandhi family in those days

Remember Bachchan was like brother to Rajiv Gandhi and even got elected to Parliament in 1984. after that he faced vicious campaign against him by his opponents. These allegations cropped up during those days. Ultimately Bachchan quit politics and vowed never to come back

What possibly happened is Bachchan being member of Nehru Gandhi inner circle knew which Congress leaders were involved in 1984 riots but lied in courts and denied any knowledge later during investigations. One good example is Jagdish Tytler who was definitely involved in 1984 but got away partly bcoz of Bachchhan's false testimony in court. Of course that is morally wrong but does not mean Bachchan was personally involved in the rioting

I would like to think that AB did not support terrorism against the Sikh's yet I have my doubts too. Thing is he always tries to be a but too nice giving the impression that their is something suspicious about him. I am no authority on Bollywood but did he not also deny having an affair with Rekha that is known to everyone?

It could be he said something untoward during the heat of the moment only to regret it later. Understandably at the time with his best friend's mother being murdered he was furious at a particular community. I find it hard that anyone from a mixed religious background would deliberately encourage murdering the people of the community his mother belonged too.

That said I do not believe that AB is a Pak well wisher at all.
