Deserves a thread of his own,

Has bossed the park in this tournament and has shown Xavi, Modric, Gerrard, who the master is.

Men against boys. Dictated play throughout. Class.

His penalty was stunning. The audacity, nerve and cheek required to pull that off at that stage is staggering.

Almost as good as Zidane's world cup final effort.

It's no secret he's a great.

Alex Ferguson tried to sign him every year for about a decade and eventually settled on Carrick.

If ever there was a quarterback in football, some of his passing was top drawer

The bottle and nerve required to pull that penalty off in a knockout shootout is outrageous. Words cannot describe the cheek and audacity.

For all the adulation the fact is that despite all that possession and all that 120 minutes of football Italy FAILED to score in open play.

Its a dream for any striker to have Pirlo play behind them, with Rooney, Ronaldo or any other top striker, Italy would have hit 5/6 that night, Balotelli is just a useless finisher.

Xavi, seriously? Xavi played a lot deeper in the beginning dude but he did make some excellent passes in that game, where was Pirlo in that game except for that beauty that he slipped to Di Natale, he made a mess of things in the beginning and was pretty quiet for the rest of the game too, not sure why would you have to bring Xavi into the mix and if anyone bossed that game, it was Iniesta and that Roman gladiator.

Andrea Pirlo: Juventus sack head coach with Massimiliano Allegri set to replace him

Andrea Pirlo led Juventus to the Coppa Italia and the Supercoppa Italiana titles but they finished fourth in Serie A after a disappointing campaign; Massimiliano Allegri set to re-join the club
Andrea Pirlo has been sacked as Juventus head coach.

The Turin club are close to announcing the return of Massimiliano Allegri to replace Pirlo, according to Sky in Italy, with the 53-year-old expected to re-sign within the next 24 hours.

Pirlo took over from Maurizio Sarri in August last year and guided them to the Coppa Italia and Suppercoppa Italiana titles but they finished fourth in Serie A, missing out on the Italian top-flight title for the first time in 10 years to Inter Milan, and they salvaged a spot in next season's Champions League on the final day of the season.

Juve issued the following message to Pirlo upon his departure from the Allianz Stadium: "Thank you, Andrea.

"These are the first words that all of us need to say at the end of this special experience together. A few months ago, Andrea Pirlo, an icon of world football, began his new adventure, his first as a coach.

Thank you for everything, @Pirlo_official!

"To do this, first of all, it takes courage, as well as awareness of one's own means, especially in a period marked by thousands of difficulties, with the world forced by the pandemic to reinvent its own rules day after day.

"Pirlo has just begun the first steps of what will no doubt become a brilliant career as a coach. An adventure of transformation, seeking, and often managing, to bring his ideas and his experience as a champion on the pitch from the "other side" of the fence.

"And since in football, what counts are the victories, let's remember them: in the space of a few short months Pirlo's Juve has raised two trophies: The Italian Supercup and the Coppa Italia. And he, as coach, brought home brilliant victories on the most prestigious of fields, from San Siro to Camp Nou.

"For all this, for the courage, the dedication, the passion with which he demonstrated every day, our thanks go to the Maestro, the Coach and to Andrea, that really comes from the heart. As well as our good luck for the future that will surely be a wonderful one."

It’s nice to see a big club acting like a big club. Even though Juventus finished in the champions league places and won the Coppa Italia, Pirlo was out of his depth as a manager and Juventus made the right decision to sack him.

Right decision to let him go, but thought he should have accepted an assistant manager position

Wanted juve to get Zidane, allegri can't improve his style, it's designed to get to semi final of champions league.

As a juve happy to come 2-4th in league for next 4 yrs to get 1 champions league.

Pirlo was too slow to react, and generally reacted, too many times we were 1-0 down. He only became attacking from 70mins onwards, caused us too many draws and defeats in big games.
Good luck to him-maybe a team like lazio would be a good fit-uefa cup but challenging 4th place.

He will need to go to a lower ranked club and learn his trade. Keen to see if he can bounce back.
