Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) said they need more time to make a final decision about the Bangladesh National Cricket team’s Pakistan tour, scheduled for January-February for a three-match T20I and two-match Test series.

BCB President Nazmul Hassan on Wednesday said the board would make the final decision on Thursday. But they now said the decision will be made early next week.

“We need more time to make the final decision for the Pakistan tour as there’re too many things to be sorted out. I hope we can do it at the board meeting on January 12,” Jalal Younus, the chairman of the Media and Communication Committee of BCB, told UNB.

“The BCB sent an email to PCB on Thursday saying they need more time to make the final call about the proposed Pakistan tour. So, PCB is still happy to wait and they are eager to host Bangladesh,” a source from Pakistan told UNB preferring anonymity.

The series is originally scheduled for a three-match T20Is and two-match Test series. But BCB is reluctant to tour Pakistan for a long time and offered Pakistan to play only T20I series this time.

But the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) did not agree to this. They rather proposed that BCB play the Test series in Pakistan and think about the T20 series later. BCB is yet to make any response to this end.

Meanwhile, most of the Bangladeshi players are not comfortable with this tour. They, however, told the BCB that they are up for the tour but for a shorter period as the BCB president told the media on Wednesday.

“Most of the players are hesitant about making the tour. They didn’t tell us that they won’t go on the tour. But they agreed for a shorter period. At the same time, most members and the coaching staff except the head coach are reluctant to make the tour,” Nazmul had told the media on January 8.

Gosh .. seems like now they need approval from BCCI

Even if the series goes through now, PCB should get some sort of compensation for the amount of money they'll lose out on due to having a series so abruptly, they won't be able to market properly.

Time wasting exercise by BCB to reduce the time window left for series to happen.

The war of words is more competitive than how the series would be lmao

Pakistan needs to stand firm. 120 points coming either way

Most probably PCB will be quietly paying BCB a few million dollars under the table to get this series on. The power equation is so much skewed against PCB right now.

I am not sure what’s needed to be marketed. Anyway no one comes to watch test matches in Pakistan. But possibly this controversy will create excitement around Bangla team in Pakistan resulting in more sponsors.

You are not sending your players to Mars. You are sending them to Pakistan and you (BCB) had a few months to decide. What is this non-sense or needing more time. The series is supposed to start next week for goodness sake.

Seem to be making a mega meal of this tour!

Bangladesh making sure they maximize the time they get out of pakistan players in BPL, just in case they are pulled out.

Add to that delaying any series with pakistan they will use the excuse they have a series vs zimbos and not much time to visit pakistan.

Pathetic stuff, plain and simple PCB cancel this farce.

Cat and mouse game continues.

PCB should tell them to forget it.

The Zimbabwe series is supposed to be in March, PSL will be well underway by then.

There's basically around 1 month left, maybe 5 weeks at best where this series will need to be fit in.

Should create a Pakistan A side of top performers not in the main XI and play a 5-day match series at home - call it Challenger or something- maybe invite some foreign players also...

I wish i could personally sue the PCB myself for spending so much time and effort in even bothering to talk to such a non entity Cricket Board and Team.

Any top board would have canceled he series but PCB as usual is spineless and unprofessional.

I don't care at this point, just make a decision either way.

I think PCB showing patience is good. At the end of the day if a team cancels Pakistan tour it basically ruins some of the good work done in recent times.

Some reports are suggesting that the BCB is yet to even seek the permission of their government. I wonder what their fear and hold back is. They clearly need to man up.

That's for ICC to decide. Nobody from here can say what will happen to those 120 points.

Definitely its for ICC to decide but its not gonna be easy considering any unfair advantage or dividing the points would mean teams can exploit that and that is not what ICC wold want.

Next time Pak or BD can say mosques arent safe in NZ give is the points ot divide them so there should be a standard in place regarding points as well as security in place.

It is likely going to be a headache for ICC. They have never dealt with this kind of stubborn situation before. It is why I hope that both boards will struck a deal.

I don't want PCB to be humiliated and I also don't want BCB to appear weak. I hope a middle ground will be reached so that we can get to see cricket.

Fingers crossed for next week. We should know whether or not the tour can take place. BCB should do the right thing and give a clear answer next week.

BCB should have to forfeit the points if they don't tour, since they have government clearance. The current FTP is mutually agreed and legally binding. BCB agreed to tour PAK and signed the FTP on their own free will.

Unless there is credible security issues - which by BCB's own admission is great - they should decide for a tour. They seem to have gotten the PCB to agree to a split tour and rightly so. That should be enough.

I think ICC should let the members to arrange the tours/matches among themselves if they cannot control the situation and drop these ICC test championship.
ICC should only interfere in ICC World Cups or ICC trophies.

They have had enough time to think about it. Don't see what miracle in gonna happen within the next few days. Can only imagine they are worried about being smashed by Pak so don't want to come.

Pakistan is being led on a wild goose chase by Bangladesh.

Everybody knows how this is going to end.

Its clearly obvious come the 12th Jan bangladesh will come up with some rubbish excuse or proposal, dont see why there was needed delay for an extra 2 days.

Also if it is found that some sort of deal has been struck which is like based on abusing the situation by BCB then ICC need to step in and make a stand on it, cant keep going through this joke scenario all the time.

I thought it was PCB that was incompetent, but BCB are just taking it to the next level. No clear direction or decision making skills shown here.

ICC should only interfere in ICC World Cups or ICC trophies.

All bilateral tours are arranged by the boardd among themselves only.

This is beyond a joke. There is clearly something going on behind the scenes involving the BCB and perhaps another board. We all know that since 2008 there has a been a stated policy to destroy/isolate pakistan culturally and diplomatically. this isn't a secret. Now that Pakistan has won its war, and security has improved to about 2003-2004 levels, it is only right that we expect teams to restart tours again. Just look at who toured between 2003-2007. That is what we should expect.

I am disappointed that the BCB players dont feel safe, even after they have seen and heard what other players have said.

With regards to the PCB sticking or cancelling, I think it is vital they stick to their guns and get the test tour done. We need to prove that the country is safe and this is another stage in this. I am all for the PCB being patient and making sure the tour happens!

Ignore the usual nonsense about "oh well its not safe etc etc"..stick to your guns and force the ICC to make a move..

How will the attack in Quetta effect the equation? Lets see.

How will the attack in Quetta effect the equation? Lets see.

It really won't.
No matches were going to played in Balochistan anyways.
We all know how bad the situation is in Balochistan.

Nearly 70% of Pakistan's terror attacks in 2019 happened in Balochistan.

I feel BCB will go ahead with the tour but delay the announcement as far as they can. All they want is to not give PCB enough time.

Easy next steps. Speak to the ICC regarding series forfeiture and full point allocations to Pakistan.

That will teach any sides making such a mess in the future a lesson.

This is getting stupider by the day. Just give a decision and move on ...

Also it's funny reading about people asking for compensation. Didn't you guys screw them up too couple years back where they too lost money. What goes around, comes right back around to hunt you. Both of these two idiotic board obviously does not think about what can happen in the future. Thinks about the moment and lays out a decision. PCBs bad decision is hunting them today, BCB's bad decision will hunt them in the future.

There will be quite a few agendas on the table when Bangladesh Cricket Board’s (BCB) first meeting of 2020 takes place at the home of cricket in Mirpur today. Bangladesh’s tour of Pakistan will be top of the agendas for discussion as BCB and its Pakistan counterpart are yet to finalise the tour scheduled for later this month. There are a few other agendas including a new central contract for the national cricketers and appointment of a new bowling coach. The Daily Star assesses the probable agendas which are expected to be raised today.

Pakistan tour

As per the ICC FTP [Future Tour Programme], Bangladesh are scheduled to tour Pakistan later this month for three T20Is and two Tests. The tour, however, hit a roadblock when BCB raised concerns over long stay in Pakistan, proposing to play only the T20I series on Pakistan soil and having the Test series take place at a neutral venue. Following a series of communication between the BCB and the PCB, the latter offered Bangladesh to play the Test series and reschedule the T20I matches ahead of the ICC World T20 later this year.

However, the BCB is still planning to play the shortest format in Pakistan and the delay over the decision has left the cricketers ill at ease, particularly over the length of stay in Pakistan. Majority of the cricketers, who are to be part of the tour, are confused whether to start mental preparation for the tour.

Meanwhile, the recent political crisis involving Iran, a neighbour to Pakistan, has created yet another dilemma for the BCB. To make matters worse, there was a powerful bomb explosion at a mosque in Balochistan province on Friday, killing at least 16 people and leaving 20 others injured, three days after a bomb had claimed two lives in Quetta. BCB was still in a dilemma over the Pakistan tour until yesterday as the board was waiting for a government order.

National team players’ central contract

There have been a lot of talk over a new central contract of the cricketers for the year 2020. It was learned that national team’s ODI skipper Mashrafe Bin Mortaza is likely to be handed a new central contract. According to sources, the board may not consider a contract for Shakib Al Hasan, who was banned from all forms of cricket for one year in October last year for his failure to report corrupt approaches from bookies. There are talks that the board could devise two separate type of contracts for the red and white ball cricketers, providing special incentive to those who only play the longest format. However, it will be interesting to see whether the board discusses reform in salary structure of women cricketers, something which was raised by the male cricketers during their strike last year with an aim to minimise the salary gap between men and women.

Mashrafe’s future

There are a lot of whispers over Mashrafe’s future. It has been learnt that the board may consider the veteran pacer as the one-day captain in the coming days despite the inspirational cricketer not been in the best of forms since the World Cup last year. It is understood that had it not been for a ban, Shakib would have been the automatic choice for captaincy in all three formats. In Shakib’s absence, the board wants to bank on Mashrafe in ODIs for some more time.

Appointing a new bowling coach

Since Charl Langeveldt was released by the BCB following a request from Cricket South Africa in December last year, the post for the Tigers’ bowling coach has remained vacant. Former West Indies pacer and coach Ottis Gibson and former South African pacer Nantie Hayward, both of whom worked in the ongoing Bangabandhu Bangladesh Premier League, are in talks with the BCB for the post.

Other issues

Among other issues, the board is to discuss the upcoming FTP schedules for the year 2020 along with the latest developments regarding the proposed cricket stadium in Purbachal.

Why is the Balochistan attack being brought up again and again?

It is not relevant here.

If BCB cite this as an excuse then No country should on principal be touring India considering the stuff that goes on in Kashmir

Naive to think it would not be brought in to the discussion. At this point, anything related to security in Pakistan is relevant!

It will obviously be brought up but it's not relevant as we're not going to be playing any matches in Balochistan.

As I've said numerous times before, Balochistan is just far more terrorism prone than anywhere else in Pakistan. So there's a higher chance of terror attacks happening there than anywhere else in Pakistan.

Foreigners might not take an effort to understand the geography of Pakistan.

All that they have to hear is Blast and Pakistan in one sentence which is enough to make them insecure about touring Pakistan.

An already reluctant Bangladesh which was so confused to tour or not to Pakistan but with the tragic news of bomb blast in Quetta might well mean a refusal to tour Pakistan at this point of time

Normal civilians might not be able to differentiate but a CRICKET BOARD should be able to.

I must say that Quetta blast may influence the foreign staffs. Let's see how it pans out.

I want this drama to end. This has been going on for far too long. Whatever happens, do it quick.

Balochistan is so big that it could make its own country and it has borders with two neighbours playing their proxy wars there. As Ronaldo said you need to understand the geography and political climate here. Games are fixtured in the safest cities of Pakistan and provided with good security there should be no problems.

Looks like series will be cancelled. Still no update!!!! How long do we have to wait to hear the bad news?
